Crash Nitro Kart
4 Star Review  IGN.com - Nov 12, 2003

With new generations of game consoles eventually come new versions of the older games. Just like the beautiful cycles of life in nature, older hits relive their previous lives with better graphics. Crash Nitro Kart takes this process to its PS one predecessor, Crash Team Racing, giving the older racer a spit shine and a couple new tricks. Other than that, there is nothing groundbreaking here and if you're a fan of the genre you know just what to expect since it's almost exactly the same as most of the rest.

Best kart racer on Xbox
4 Star Review   By member sbelli - Feb 26, 2006

Strengths: Fun kart racer with weapons!

Weakness: Not a real good sense of speed

From 37 year old dad: There's not many kart racers for Xbox but of the ones that are out there this seems to be the best. There's a decent variety of tracks, decent graphics and, most of all, it's fairly innocent for my 6-year-old. Sure there's weapons to blow other racers out of the sky, but it's not really violent. I'd definately recommend it for those looking for a title to have fun with the kids with. From the 6-year-old: There is cool weapons that you can get. There's cool cars you can get. I really like it.

2 Star Review   By member Bullettime - Mar 20, 2005

Strengths: Colorful graphics, 720p HDTV support

Weakness: Rudimentary gameplay, lackluster multiplayer, some dreadful voice-overs

The Crash Bandicoot franchise has been on a steady decline ever since developer Naughty Dog abandoned the poor bandicoot. Crash Nitro Kart didn't elevate the franchise much when it was released in 2003. In fact, it's a rather disappointing follow-up to the much-loved Crash Team Racing on the PlayStation. The storyline is forgettable, the gameplay is watered down, and even the multiplayer fails to excite (the four-player split screen is very sketchy). Most of the voice-overs are horrendous, with characters repeating the same trite phrase ad nauseam. At least the graphics are acceptable, as they are bursting with color and a real treat on an HDTV.

4 Star Review   By member shrike424242 - Nov 28, 2004

Strengths: Good graphics and sounds, good single player and multiplayer modes, amusing characters and voice acting

Weakness: No system link or XBox Live play

Kart racing gameplay is done well in Crash Nitro Kart. The game controls as good and tight, making it easy to zip around the tracks. Multiple weapons are scattered throughout the course, and adds in some nice combat to the kart action. The play modes are a single player race, a multiplayer race, single player adventure mode. The graphics look good, though they're not pushing the XBox to its limits. The sound is equally good, with some pretty funny voice acting backing them up. The characters are an assortment from the other Crash Bandicoot games, and add in some funny moments. There's no system link mode or XBox Live mode, so the multiplayer is split-screen. A minor annoyance, but nothing to pass on buying the game over. For some good kart racing action, Crash Nitro Kart is one to pick up.
