Description
Anything is possible in this game featuring over 100 Disney characters. You have to see this to believe it. The world of a young boy, Sora (voiced by a young Haley Joel Osment), is destroyed by a violent storm and he is separated from his closest friends. At the same time, there is turmoil in the Disney castle as King Mickey is missing. Court Wizard Donald and Captain Goofy set off to find King Mickey and meet up with Sora. They must save their world from the Heartless, beings without hearts from an unknown dimension. Great Disney animation, over 100 Disney characters from Pooh, to Goofy, to Tarzan, Mulan, Snow White, Peter Pan, Ariel, Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Bambi, and lots more. Created with the support of two multimedia entertainment powerhouses, Kingdom Hearts provides a new adventure with some familiar faces. This 3D action-oriented role-playing title from developers at Square features popular Disney characters like Donald Duck and Goofy adventuring alongside more conventional Final Fantasy-styled heroes. Tetsuya Nomura, who designed several of the characters in earlier Final Fantasy titles, supervised this game's development. In addition to the well-established Donald and Goofy, Kingdom Hearts introduces several new characters to the Disney universe. The heroes must embark on a long and dangerous quest to rescue lost friends. Players guide thier characters through sleepy city streets and mysterious torch-lit tombs, facing clever enemies and large boss characters. Most of the action is played out in real-time. Though it features characters often associated with children's programs, Kingdom Hearts is designed to offer a thoughtful, serious role-playing adventure for gamers of all ages.

4.5 Star Review  GameZone - Oct 2, 2002

"You can’t come along looking like that!" You see the problem isn’t the way Sora is dressed, it has to do with the look on his face. No sad faces are allowed on the Gummi Ship. Don’t let the use of the word ‘gummi’ fool you, this game is anything but a romp for the very young. There is a dark undercurrent, a montage of dreams and real sequences jumbled together with an ever-present black void that drags Sora down into the nightmare realm. There is heartbreak, longing and heroism. Each aspect has its counter, delicately balanced in the rich panorama of the game.

Kingdom Hearts (ps2)
4 Star Review  GameSpy - Sep 3, 2002

In the world of comic books, crossovers are commonplace. What better way to spice up the storyline of an aging comic than to throw in the cast of a whole other book? If done properly it's an interesting concept, but outside of fighting games there have been surprisingly few examples of crossovers in gaming. However, Square and Disney have teamed up to deliver one very major exception to that rule. They call it Kingdom Hearts, and it's an Action-RPG that combines classic Disney characters and settings with both Japanese-style gameplay and familiar faces from the more recent Final Fantasy games. Sound strange? You bet, but after years of video gaming you probably know that that's not necessarily a bad thing.

4.5 Star Review  IGN.com - Sep 16, 2002

But what a wealth of character this game has! Designs new and are brought to life by brilliant 3D modeling and animation, creating perhaps the most effective rendition of a cartoon world on a console, and while there's plenty of lighthearted humor in evidence, the subject matter is often pitched at quite a serious level. Both halves of the unlikely pair have contributed the best they have to offer, and the result is something that will hopefully take hold enough for it to receive the audience it deserves.

3.5 Star Review  productwiki.com - Jul 20, 2009

Kingdom Hearts begins on Destiny Islands, where Sora, Riku, and Kairi live. The three friends want to leave the islands to explore new worlds and have prepared a raft for this purpose. One night, the islands are attacked by darkness and shadow creatures—the Heartless. Sora seeks out his friends, finding Riku, who disappears into darkness. At the same time, Sora obtains the Keyblade. The islands are destroyed, and Sora is left adrift. Meanwhile, King Mickey has left his world to deal with the increasing darkness and left instructions for mage Donald and knight Goofy to find the "key". Donald and Goofy use a Gummi Ship to travel to Traverse Town, to where Sora has drifted. Sora encounters the shadow creatures again, and meets Leon, who explains the shadow creatures are Heartless, beings that consume hearts, and that the Keyblade is the only weapon capable of defeating them. A man named Ansem, ... PROS: (1) Interesting blend of anime & Disney characters. (2) Great soundtrack ... CONS: (1) Some levels can feel cramped and limited (not allowing much exploration)

Strengths: great story line plus has good battle system with great charecters.

Weakness: has a little trouble with camera angle and the battle system can be a little reptative.

this game is one of the best games i've ever played its fun, great graphics for its time and alot of really good story twists.if i were you reading this review i'd get this game right away and get it quick.there are many things you can get hooked on in this game despite haveing to paly along disney charecters like playing the colerful and fun levels like the olyimpic collisium where theres a tournement where you can fight swarms of heartless and if you get far enough in the game you will be able to fight the great sephorith.plus there are plenty of fun extras like findig the 101 dalmations and go to the moogale shop and synthsize stuff to create new items.guess the charecters you'll get to meet.....you guessed it final fantsey.you'll get to meet could from ff7 and squall(leon in kingdom hearts)from ff8 and thats just the beging.so like i said get off your computer and buy this game fast plus its cheap and can get it at the price 15.00$or 20.00$ any higher and there trying to rip you off.

Strengths: smart combat system, funny, and some real fun balttles ( like the lasty fight against Riku and the Dragon battle) beautiful grpahics

Weakness: boss battles can be hard, especially Big Ursul and Cloud in the Colisium

this was a very fun game full of final fantasy charicters and disney charicters alike. i would like sora to sound more like a 14 yr old boy than a 12yr girl. but that is getting a little too picky. the average beating time is about 40 to 50 hours but they go by swifly.

Strengths: The graphics, sound, and the fact that Disney character voices are very similar to that of the real thing.

Weakness: I honestly don't think this game has any weaknesses =]

When I first bought this game, a lot of people asked me why because it seems like a * kiddie game *. Once I really got into playing it, I found out that it is far from a kiddie game. Some Disney characters might be kiddie, but thats all. This game is excellent in every way and the bosses are awesome ! At first I was actually afraid to fight some of them.. but later realized that they aren't so bad. I have not yet beaten this game, I am on the last boss. But once I do, I am greatly looking forward to Kingdom Hearts 2 !!! I would recommend this game to anyone because it is very mind-boggling !

Strengths: The story is excellent. Huge cast of characters make it even more interesting. Very enjoyable game.

Weakness: The beginning was a little slow but it definitely picks up after.

Overall it was a very fun game to play. Its graphis are top notch and look very much like the actual Disney characters. It's an action/adventure RPG that is filled with an amazing story and surprises. This game comes highly recommended.

Strengths: Battle system, over all fun

Weakness: not much

Squarsoft and Disney, I had to check it out. I am glad I did. The real time battle system is well done. Magic takes getting use to, but is not really needed. What I found was best, was the different worlds based on different Disney stories. Each "world" had its own charm, and kept everything 'fresh'. I have played and solved this game twice already, and am thinking of giving it a 3rd go around.

Strengths: Battle is great. I like it better in real time than taking turns like in FFX.

Weakness: Figuring out everything with the gummi ships.

I think that this is my favorite game of all time. The game play is not too hard but not too easy at the same time. I usually don't ever pay full price for a game. I can count on three fingers how many games I've payed full price for and I own over fifty. This was definitely worth it and I'm looking forward to a possible sequel. Disney and Squaresoft have made a wonderful work of art.

5 Star Review   By member Romeodin - Feb 22, 2003

Strengths: The best of 2 worlds, Square and Disney. The game has enough to keep Final Fantasy fans involved, and if you are a Disney fan, you will absolutely love the game.

Weakness: Trying to figure out the gummi ship

I have played every Final Fantasy game ever made, and this one is as good as any of those. I recommend it and I am looking forward to the sequel. This is 1 of 2 games that I have ever(I own 45 PS2 games) paid full retail price for, and I definitely enjoyed it. I thought that the Disney aspect would dull down the Square genius, but it actually turned out to be a refreshing change. What more do I have to say, if it has anything to do with Square, chances are that it is going to be a good game. "The World Is Square!"

5 Star Review   By member TheorenFleury - Nov 8, 2002

Strengths: Visually appealing, good story line, great graphics and sound.

Weakness: Jumping in the game is catchy.

Great game. Good story. The playability and animation is very well done. Very good attention to detail. A large game with sprawling "worlds". Disney characters are life-like and believable. A very addictive game. Better than most RPG's I have previously played.
