Good, but not Great

Strengths: Incredible graphics. Fluid animation. Nice variety of characters.

Weakness: Gets dull pretty quickly. Default AI is way too easy. No online option. Heihachi is a stupid bonus character.

There are two ways to look at this game. The first is the two player experience and the other is the single player. The two player experience is good, but, since there's no option to play against others online, that's pretty shortlived, as it only lasts as long as the people immediately around you want to keep playing. The single player experience is not so good. In single player versus mode, the...

Soul Calibur II

Strengths: All around solid title

Weakness: Weak exclusive character, not as impressive the second time around.

I'm not really a big fan of Soul Calibur II. It's not really that impressive as the prequel on DC and I never got beyond learning a handful of moves and combos for a few characters. The 1p modes are pretty much what you'd expect and Namco seriously needs to bring back those awesome animated endings for each character. Soul Calibur II is a fighter I can only play casually before losing interest...

Best 3D fighter

Strengths: + detailed graphics + fast gameplay

Weakness: - like all fighting games, it's a bit boring playing alone. - PS2's exclusive character is not as cool as playing with Zelda

Soul Calibur 2 is the most fun I've had playing a 3D fighter. The characters aren't as memorable as the characters in the Tekken series or Street Fighter series, but the fast gameplay makes the battles more exciting than any other 3D fighting game.

The Soul Still Burns!

Strengths: Excellent graphics gameplay and sound. Tons of unlockables. Incredible intro movie.

Weakness: No animated endings but that's about it.

Soul Calibur 2 is probably the best 3-D fighting game for the Playstation 2. Everything from the graphics and sound, to the gameplay are nearly perfect. There are tons of things to unlock as you play the game. These range to new characters to new weapons and coustumes. There are many modes of play as well. The Weaponsmaster Mode is like a deeper story mode were you must fight to earn money....

I already own the Gamecube version...

Strengths: Great graphics, solid controls, playable Heihachi from Tekken.

Weakness: Not a huge leap from the Dreamcast version.

I already own the Gamecube version and liked the game a lot so I decided to pick up the PS2 version once I saw it plummet in price. Although this game is on all 3 consoles (PS2, XB, GC), I believe the Gamecube version is the best because you can use Link (from the popular Zelda series); however, having Heihachi (from Tekken) is still a nice bonus. Soul Calibur is one of the great fighting games...
