5 Star Review  GameZone - Sep 17, 2004

As long as the XBox has been on the gaming scene, Peter Molyneux’s vaunted uber-RPG has been one of the most hotly debated and anticipated titles for the console. The game has gone through multiple name changes, beginning with “Project Ego” and ending with its current title, Fable. Much like names for the game have come and gone, so have some of its coolest features, like competition with other heroes throughout the game (while this is still here to a degree, it is really more of a story element than a gameplay one), the mass crowds following your hero and a couple other key points.

Fable (xbox)
4 Star Review  GameSpy - Sep 10, 2004

It's been a long time coming, that's for sure, but Fable is finally upon us. A few things are safe to say: it's brilliant, for one, but perhaps not in the way that we had been lead to believe. It also bears the mark of the creative force responsible for its conception: Peter Molyneux, the renowned game designer, and creator of games like Populous and Black & White. Most importantly, the experience it provides is completely engrossing, and all of its subtle elements were crafted with a careful hand. The resulting game feels like it's teeming with life, and genuinely responding to your interactions. Whether or not it's all nothing but smoke and mirrors is secondary.

Fable
5 Star Review  about.com - Sep 10, 2004

Fable is a world where depending on how you play the game will alter your character’s look, skills, and the way other characters react to you. You can be good or evil. You can get married. You can even stop at a stream and go fishing. You can really do pretty much anything you want. After four years of hype and big promises, Fable is finally here. The final result isn’t as great as it certainly could have been, but it is a fine game that stands as yet another must-own game for the Xbox.

Fable
5 Star Review  bonafidereviews.com - Sep 10, 2004

The premise behind Fable is really one of discovery and development. At the beginning of the game, you start as a young boy with a clean slate in life. Quickly, you are presented with choices and situations that will shape the kind of man your character will develop into. From that point on, the actions you take will shape how good, or evil, your character becomes. While the actual implementation of this good/evil system is not quite as dynamic as it sounds, the character development system is still very engaging and, ultimately, quite fun to play with.

5 Star Review  IGN.com - Aug 27, 2004

It's been in development longer than the Xbox has been on store shelves. It was once the ultimate game, an RPG so massive in scale and concept that it seemed impossible to be real. It's had three different names through the course of its development, finally settling on Fable. It's been a damn long wait, but finally one of the most-anticipated RPGs in the history of gaming has arrived.

Fable
5 Star Review

Strengths: More realistic and down to earth so to speak. The story line and graphics make this game believable. Other games have way to much going on to fast.

Weakness: So I have found none other than when is the next installment coming out? I have had this game since 2004 and it's still my favorite.

If you really want to be emersed in a game this is it for me. Not to slow and certainly not to fast for my liking. It's a game that seems more plausable and real than any other I have played. The characters and graphics are reall great and easy to take in without passing out. It's got a great story line that make you want to come back again and again to see what changes to your character and world are going to happen next. Only hope that there are many follow ups to this one. I rate this as 5 starts.

Fable
4 Star Review   By member Malice82890 - Oct 5, 2006

Strengths: Gaphics and story-line

Weakness: replay value to a point, game length, and too godlike

Fable for the xbox is very good game. The graphics look good and the choices are fun. This is a very good game but has the problem of being too short. And the replay value is only good to a point because there are only 2 main choices you can make; Good or Evil. And around the time you get to the middle of the game the game becomes unbelievably easy and the reason is because your character becomes so strong that its godlike. But don't get me wrong the game is still good.

5 Star Review   By member ozmata - Nov 30, 2004

Strengths: great graphics, great game play

Weakness: none so far

Actually this game is being barrowed from a friend, i played only for 3 days and i love it, i am not even half way through it, i have 2 wifes and about 3 or 4 houses, now what kind of game can you do that. i mean i love the suits you can buy, i don't care for the weapons i just waste my gold on suits, and the fact that you can go back to your home town which i did. i killed someone by accident and i was accpected to pay a fine but instead i went on a killing rampage and kill the never ending supply of gaurds. i left the city to return hours later with some people stil afraid of me. in the morrowwind i don't think they will be afraid of me they will just think i am new to the town. i love the challeges it hold like the demon doors and the annoying hobits. a must own game. 5 Star Review   By member BigC43 - Oct 12, 2004

Strengths: Incredible Graphics, Great Adictive Gameplay, The Choice and fairly Open Ended Gameplay

Weakness: None, but a sequel could use an online mode as well as 2 player deathmatch and more areas to explore

I pre-ordered this game in June because it looked like one of the best RPG's I had ever seen. Now, I have owned it for 4 weeks and still enjoy every time I load it in my Xbox. It's amazing how much your hero can change after a week of playing the game. I haven't beaten it yet (granted, I only play if I'm lucky an hour a day and a bit more on weekends)but I know I'm close. When I do finaly beet the game, I will defenitely play it again as an evil character. I will also just wonder Albion with my finished character too. This is a great game that all RPG fans should buy!

2 Star Review   By member Instilled - Sep 25, 2004

Strengths: Addictive gameplay, great graphics, exceptional interactive npc's.

Weakness: very short game, linear plot no matter what choices you make in the game, too easy.

At first - with all the hype this game generated - I was all pumped up for this game. Yet, as i played, i started to worry. the plot, which was good while it lasted, was unfolding too quick. i was hoping for something between Star wars KOTOR, and Marrowwind. Boy was i wrong! Marrowwind, still reigning in my opinion, is a good 500-700 hours if you do all the quests. Kotor was a just long enough 50 hours or so. this game, 14 if you are lucky. if you go around looking for all the little things it will still be less than 20 hours. potions are too cheap and attainable. one can beat any quest with a stick in your hands if you have enough potions to last you. the plot stays the same no matter what you do.. good or bad. and once the game is beat, you can run around with the best weapon in the game. that's great and all, but since you have beat the game there are no more "bosses", leaving no challenge. and much like KOTOR, you can't leave the paths. doesn't leave much for finding little passages, paths, or treasures. basicly, a great renting game. get it for a week and you will easily have enough time to beat this game a couple of times. i know i did.. for 70 bucks!

Strengths: incredible graphics, good fighting, long game, considered to be the best rpg of all time.

Weakness: realistically it is kind of sad but i dont think that there is anything week about this game.....

Fable IS one of the most acclaimed games for the xbox, it has everything going for it, as far as plot goes it may be the best story line ever created. The fact that you can control this persons life from the time that he is 15 to 70 is amazing and how detailed everything is.. This game is just like real life except for the fighting and crap. but other than that you can have kids and a dog fall in love flick people off burp in peoples faces fight people at random, make quests and bet money that you can do them in time limits, get mugged, and the fact that it should take longer than morrowind to beat gives me goose bumps! It makes me angry to hear that Halo 2 is getting all these reviews when fable is guaranteed to be the best rpg if not the best game of all time! that is all i have to say...
