Silent Hill 2
4.5 Star Review  GameZone - Oct 2, 2001

It's been a long time since I've played a survival/horror game with sound as powerful as Silent Hill 2. Come to think of it, the last game with comparable sound was the original SH. That useful/annoying/terrifying radio from the first game is back. Just like before, whenever a monster is near by, the radio's volume increases immensely, filling your ears with the sound of impending doom. The only thing louder than the radio's static is the jumpy music, further intensifying the situation. This is a great effect that tries its hardest to make you scared, but somehow falls short of achieving the same fear factor present in the first game.

Strengths: Very Scary game - spooky foggy atmospheric environment - great storyline

Weakness: Camera view can lack at times

After playing the original , this game was a must-have. The story is as follows : Your character gets a letter from his wife - only she is dead. This takes you on the road to Silent Hill where you find terror incarnate. You face horrifying monsters and a number of puzzles on your journey to find the source of the letter. Those that have seen the recent movie will recognize some of the creatures in Silent Hill 2, namely Pyramid Head. Your actions throughout the game determine what ending you will get , as there are multiples. This makes the game instantly have replay value. This greatest Hits version includes extra content not found on the original version, so pick this up if you have a choice. Definitely Recommended!

Story Driven Horror Game
5 Star Review   By member OpTiMaLhUnTeR - Apr 25, 2006

Strengths: Excellent story with multiple endings.

Weakness: Gameplay can be on the weak side, because of the somewhat lackluster combat.

Sequel to one of my most favorite games of all-time. The player controls the character named James Sunderland. Responding to a letter from his wife, he's come to the town of Silent Hill. Only problem is she died 3 years ago. You don't need to have played the first Silent Hill at all to enjoy this game. The only thing Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 2 share, as far as the story is concerned, is the town of Silent Hill. Gameplay remains the same. The fighting is still as clunky as the first game, and you have new puzzles to wrack your brain. One nice feature is that both combat and puzzle difficulty are individually adjustable. Also, as a bonus for those that buy the Greatest Hits version, you'll receive a new game mode called Born From A Wish. In it you get to play as the mysterious woman Maria. You take control of her before her run in with James. I really enjoyed this game for the atmosphere and story. If you enjoyed the first Silent Hill 1 you will definitely want to pick this one up if you haven't already. Even if you never played the first I still recommend looking into buying this game.

An excellent horror game
4 Star Review   By member keelie - Apr 19, 2006

Strengths: Great creey atmosphere

Weakness: Frustrating puzzles

Silent Hill 2 is an excellent scary game that replies on bizarre and disturbing factors for its horror. It has a very creepy atmosphere that works very well in this genre of games. The storyline is well written and can be deeper than one would initially think. The frustration in this game is the puzzles, which can be very difficult to solve. They can literally get you stuck in the game, until you get some sort of guide to walk you through them. Overall, if you like creepy and scary games, this one will certainly satisfy your taste.

Silent Hill 2
4 Star Review   By member eau697 - Apr 18, 2006

Strengths: Horror game with a creepy atmosphere

Weakness: Combat system and hard puzzles

Silent Hill 2 is a horror themed game with a creepy atmosphere. It is truly one of the best horror games. The story is deep and creepy, and makes you come back for more. The only flaw in the game is that the puzzles can be frustratingly difficult. The combat can be lame and hard to control. Nevertheless, if you are into horror movie and such, this game is certainly a must try.

The best in the series.
5 Star Review   By member berserker_kev - Sep 11, 2005

Strengths: Creepy atmosphere, excellent story that keeps you thinking, replay value.

Weakness: Controls.

Silent Hill 2 is my personal favorite in the Silent Hill series. Every aspect of this game flows together perfectly to provide a memorable experience that will have you guessing and keep you coming back for more. The game features many endings, that will keep seasoned veterans satisfied for quite a while. The creepy atmosphere from Silent Hill 1 is greatly expanded upon in this sequel. Other World has never been better with its continued warped look! As with the past title, the story will keep you guessing, and the story in this installment flows together perfectly. The only flaw that I can find is the usual love or hate relationship with the controls that often plague survival horror games. This Greatest Hits version is actually Silent Hill: Restless Dreams, which has an extra side quest involving Maria, entitled "Born from a Wish" which adds some extra depth to her character. This game is highly recommended for survival horror fans!

Scary
5 Star Review   By member thekp18 - Jul 12, 2005

Strengths: Scary, Really Really Scary, Good Story, Multiple Endings, Well-designed Puzzles, Superb Graphics, Good Character Designs, Disgusting Bad Guys!

Weakness: Lame Combat, Camera Issues, Slow Pace

Silent Hill 2 is a truly scary experience. The game is scary...I mean, really scary. The graphics are truly amazing. The environments are filled with gore and blood, and the environments are really dark (this adds to a really scary feeling). The monsters, although they get repetitive after a while, are truly disgusting (in a good way, of course). The combat is not really that difficult, but some boss fights give some challenge. Talking about boss fights, the bosses are well-blended into the gameplay and truly add to the game's horror. The fights are only a minor experience in the game, as most of the game is consisted of solving puzzles (hopefully, you know your shakespeare). The puzzles are well-done, and have the right amount of difficulty. Since puzzles take a major part in the game, the game's pace is relatively slow. But it doesn't take anything away from this truly scary game. The story is well-written (actually the story is believable!). The main-character is likeable, and the voice acting is well-done (especially compared to other survival-horror games). This is a must buy for any survival-horror fan. 9/10.

4 Star Review   By member sabin23 - Jul 5, 2005

Strengths: Great creepy atmosphere, controls better then Resident Evil, good story.

Weakness: Fustrating puzzles, bizzare looking characters, bad voice acting.

While Resident Evil has always been about zombies, Silent Hill is a different type of horror game that relies more on bizarre and disturbing aspects. The graphics and sound are great in this game and create a scary mood and creepy sense of paranoia. The controls are solid overall but they could be tighter (still better then Resident Evil though). The one thing you should be prepared for are the puzzles. Like in Resident Evil and the first Silent Hill game, you'll be frustrated trying to solve certain puzzles in this game. There were certain parts of the game that I was stuck on forever, until I finally consulted a guide. The storyline is interesting and will keep you playing until the end. If you like creepy horror games filled with fiendish puzzles, then get Silent Hill. If you were never a fan of these type of games, then Silent Hill will not change your mind.

Strengths: Scary game with great atmasphere

Weakness: Hard puzzles

This is a pretty fun game. There are several moments that are very scary. I think that this game is more scary then the Resident Evil serries (I have not played RE 4). The main problem with this game is that the puzzles are sometimes frustratingly difficult. I tried to defeat the game without using a stategy guide, but some of the puzzle are just too dificult to figure out. This game is worth its cost in my opinion.
