Final Fantasy X
5 Star Review  GameZone - Dec 20, 2001

Final Fantasy X has been released for U.S. audiences, and as always, there is no shortage of interest and hype surrounding the highly-anticipated 10th installation to the series. The first Final Fantasy to be released for the Playstation 2 entertainment system, we've been somewhat cruelly teased with endless screens and information for months. For a while it seemed the day would never come, and I admit, the first few minutes I held the case in my hand, I wondered if it would disappear. Nevertheless, the most important thing we all needed to know is: "Well.... Is it really that good? Will they keep their hordes of fans coming back for more?" My answer, after a particularly sleep-deprived period of time, is a resounding YES! Our story is set thusly: As the story begins, we are introduced to this optimistic Tidus, star Blitzball player, right before his tournament in Zanarkand.

Final Fantasy X
4 Star Review  GameSpy - Dec 15, 2001

The tenth game in the most storied franchise in video-game history marks both a beginning and an ending. This is the first FF game for the PlayStation2, the first one to use voice acting, and supposedly the last single-player game in the series. Whether the latter holds true or not, Square has put together a spectacular finale that serves up many of the things people loved about the series and blends in new elements that make it the most complete FF game ever. This RPG is a fantastic experience that's deep enough for hardcore gamers to enjoy, while elegant enough for anyone to pick up. If this is indeed the last single-player FF game, this is a hell of a way to go out.

Final Fantasy X
5 Star Review  IGN.com - Dec 18, 2001

What is heartening, though, is that the last of Hironobu Sakaguchi's Final Fantasy games makes a very strong argument for being the best game the series has ever seen. It is, as the series has always been, a graphical showcase of the first order. The addition of spoken dialogue, despite plenty of second-guessing before the event, has succeeded to a far greater degree than a first effort of this sort has any right to. Most of all, though, this game is more fun to simply play than any Final Fantasy in memory. A huge reworking of the character development scheme has hit the jackpot as far as mixing customization and character individuality, and one simple tweak to the battle system has pulled almost every aspect of gameplay through a great leap forward.

5 Star Review   By member jngx80 - Jun 21, 2005

Strengths: + just about everything - graphics, sounds, music, story, design + new, better battle system

Weakness: - linear, not free roaming - story gets a bit convoluted at the end

This is the best roleplaying game ever. The writing is top notch and I think it is one of the best FF stories. FFX differs a bit from the other FF games in the sense that the story does not have an ultimate bad guy who's trying to conquer the world. It's a bit more mature; I think dealing more on life and death, consciousness, love, religion and they're presented in more subtle ways unlike FFIX which forced fed you to question the meaning of life. The battle system is the best I've played in an rpg. I hated the old active time battles from previous FF games. In Final Fantasy, they added a graphical timeline so that you can see who goes next. This allows the battles to have some strategy, as you can see how using magic, items, etc. will affect the speed of your characters. Even though it's been a few years since its release, the graphics are still better than most current games. The only problem is that the PS2 has aliasing problems so lines appear jagged, pixelated.

Strengths: Absolutely everything!

Weakness: Nothing at all.

This game is so awesome. Awesome graphics (Though, I will admit, they could be better on certain cinemas). The voiceovers could be a little better, but I gotta say, I love Wakka's voice =D. I don't understand all these morons saying that "all the cinemas are just Tidus trying to get into Yuna's pants" and all that crud. Tidus does flirt a little with her at times, but there's nothing more to it than that. I'm over halfway into the game, and I can't wait to finish it! I know the ending is promising, and this game is one of my highest recommendations!

Strengths: Everything It's square.....

For all of you who have bashed this game for it's "Love cuts" and it's "Lack of Story line." You don't know what your talking about. The game is up there in the best rpgs ever maybe not the top tier but close. Yes it had its' flaws but no they were not the cut's or the story line which were great. And lack of exploring you must not have taken full advantage of you airship. All of you people need to realize that games arn't all going to be like 3 and 7(the best in the series). You cant expect them to be perfect. The only and I mean only complaint i could have given this game was the sphere grid(Great for the first 20 hours but really annoying after about hour 100+). The ending was great the storyline was great so those of you who are Tidus and Yuna haters just get over it.

Strengths: Graphics and CGIs are one of the bests out there. New fighting system has improved gameplay and saves time.

Weakness: Linear and random battles

Overall this game was one of the best RPGs I have played in a long time. Its graphics are the best that I can imagine for an RPG to date. The new fighting system makes playing it enjoyable and its character building system is interesting. There are still random battles, but with the new fighting system you can kill them quickly or just run away. The story and characters were excellent. This game comes highly recommended.

Strengths: Great graphics and storyline. Also has a wonderful soundtrack and the movies are interesting. The movie spheres and music sphere's which become available part way through make this game even better.

Weakness: In some cases, there are too many battles. Searching for items in the game sometimes becomes burdensome.

I wasn't much of a Final Fantasy fan before IX, but I can tell you from playing them all that I instantly fell in love with this game and just about everything about it. Due to it's emotional content, graphics, and gameplay, I eagerly await X-2.

5 Star Review   By member jmartin00 - Feb 14, 2003

Strengths: Terrific graphics, engaging story, fun and integrated mini-game in Blitzball, awesome battle system, first-rate music, and endearing characters that you really care about.

Weakness: None significant. (A bit linear for some RPG fans, but hardly a problem in this game.) You WOULD miss quite a few things without also purchasing the strategy guide.

One of my first and still my favorite PS2 game. I have played it through three times already (with an average of 180 hours per game). Blitzball took some getting used to--I couldn't get into it until my second time playing the game, but it is worth the effort. Anyone who claims the cutscenes are simply Tidus trying to get into Yuna's pants are either playing a different game from the one I have or have some serious Freudian issues to work out. It simply isn't so. In fact, any romance in this game is low key and takes a back seat to the main storyline. The gameplay is fun, the artwork is terrific, and the story will pull you through to the end. Endings in general tend to be let downs, but this one was certainly satisfactory. I loved ALL the characters, and can't wait for FFX-2 to come out. I would HIGHLY recommend this title to anyone who likes a more cerebral approach to game playing. Button mashers should probably look elsewhere for their entertainment. You WILL want to buy the strategy guide to go with this game. I would give this game six stars if I could. Truly a gem.

Strengths: graphics like no other Playstation 2 game. Heart-warming and in depth storyline. Advanced battle system (better than any other rpg). Breath-taking FMV's. Superlative sound track.

Weakness: Despite slightly linear gameplay there is not much fault against Final fantasy X

Join Tidus & Yuna in their quest to rid the world of Spira from the evil sin. With breath-taking graphics and sound, an in depth storyline enhanced by excellent voice-overs (the first time ever in a final fantasy series) Final Fantasy X, is more than likely to become one of the more cherished games of your collection.

Strengths: Beautiful game, story starts off pretty cool.

Weakness: I got halfway through the game in the first day, and also the game is completely linear, there are no choices to make, no exploring.

Rent it, if you play through it fast you can beat it in a few days and it really has no replay value, I wish it was more like FF2 and FF3 on supernes.

1 Star Review   By member jeremylehman - Dec 19, 2002

Strengths: The Final Fantasy Name

Weakness: Quality=What the game consisted of

This game is by far THE WORST game I've ever played! You walk like 10 feet cutscene, then you have to fight. This goes on forever and you end up falling asleep playing it. There is never anything new going on. All that the cutscenes consist of is the guy (I strictly refuse to use the character names, because I consider that advertising) trying to get into the girl's pants. I mean come on!!! I payed $50 bucks, and sold it to this F-F Geek, for $65! THAT IS THE only GOOD THING I GOT OUT OF BUYING THE GAME!!!! I wouldnt recommend this game because it sucks.

Strengths: Good computer animation, cool lvl style.

Weakness: Sucky luv story.

This game is half decent, though could be better, Squaresoft really screwed up this time. I did lik the way you leveled up your characters was differant,it was cool. There aren't enough clips, and the only ones there are show Tidus and Yuna together, lame. The ending totally sucked!! I was getting ready to sue somebody. It was way too short, explained nothing, and it was muchy! I would never tell anyone to buy this game.

2 Star Review   By member DillDoe - Aug 15, 2002

Strengths: Nice graphics, feature to play the world-renouned sport Blasterball or something stupid like that.

Weakness: Generic turn-based RPG, WAY too many cutscenes, not what you expect from Square at ALL.. total letdown.

This game plainly sucks, I cannot put it more eloquently. You literally walk 10 feet, get into a cutscene, fight a little, then continue.. this time you walk maybe a little more.. 20 to 30 feet, then you get a cutscene and, yes, more fighting. This game is beautiful, but it's such a waste of $50, time, and graphics. The story is completely stupid, there's mushy lovey-lovey cutscenes ALL the time.. I mean if they were nice cutscenes like Devil May Cry then that's okay, but when it breaks gameplay to show your character trying to get into Yuna's pants I just couldn't take it. The older ones are so much better (FF3 ruled), just don't waste your money.

Strengths: Unbelievable storyline, excellent character build, the emotion engine is really put to work on some parts, the CG sequences are excellent, graphics usually aren't laggy.

Weakness: Game story is very linear, some parts may come confusing to most people, leveling up gets annoying after about 1/2 the game is over, lip-movements are terrible!

The game's storyline is unbelievable. I had been hooked on this game so much that I have beaten it thoroughly 9 times. This is the best of the Final Fantasy series for sure. The soundtrack is brilliant as always (good work Uematsu!!). They should have spent more time redoing the lipping on this game. It looks terrible at times.

Strengths: Powerful graphics, sweet music, great characters, good gameplay.

Weakness: The CD is weak...scratches easily, too linear with the movement patterns, lots of movies.

Final Fantasy X will leave you astounded for the rest of your life (maybe). This game offers everything from the corners of our beloved earth from great voice accents, voice acting, graphics are astounding, sound is bedazzling...basically an RPG freak's dream game!!! I only rented this but im having lots of fun.
