Description
In Advent Rising, a common legend pervades the galaxy--that one day humans will deliver the universe. Many view humans as the messiah, a symbol of hope, or fantastical creatures, but the Seekers view them as enemies that must be destroyed. In third- and first-person points of view, you'll realize what it means to be truly human as you delve into an intergalactic saga.

Advent Rising
4 Star Review  GameZone - Jun 22, 2005

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery then there are some developers out there that should feel awfully flattered. Not that what I am saying should be taken with a negative light, but more as an observation of gaming as a whole. Let's face it, there are tons of games out there both good and bad that owe something to another game, whether it was an idea a developer got from seeing a game or an actual visual, lifted and recreated. So when I say that Advent Rising wants to be Halo 2, that's not only a compliment to Halo 2, but to Advent Rising. It takes a lot of panache and vision to try and take on a game as large and well done as Halo 2, and while Advent Rising isn't quite as epic or grand in scale as Halo 2, it does have some things going for it.

Advent Rising
4 Star Review  IGN.com - May 31, 2005

It's been two years since we first heard about Advent Rising. From the start the game was extremely ambitious. It was to be the first installment in a three part sci-fi epic with story elements contributed by famed science fiction author Orson Scott Card. The gameplay would blend 3rd person shooting mechanics with god-like super powers and an original targeting system. However, when the game was playable At E3 in 2004 it suffered from a horrendous frame rate and iffy controls. It looked as though GlyphX had overshot its capabilities and Advent Rising would slide into the dark valley of games brimming with potential, but lacking follow-through. Thankfully, the title was delayed and we watched with delight as elements of Advent began to come together. The result is a genuinely fun experience that mixes elements one expects from big budget projects with some lingering technical shortcomings.
