Great series, bad game
2 Star Review   By member blackninja - Feb 23, 2006

Strengths: Great franchise, online play.

Weakness: Lots of slowdown, bad controls.

The first call of duty was fantastic in my opinion, and in the opinion of many others. As great as that game was, I expected this first console iteration to match it. It didn't. I was astonished at the horrid controls, muddy graphics, and super linear gameplay. It just was not that great. A few things save it, such as online play, but only Call of Duty fanatics should attempt this experience.

3 Star Review   By member AgentDark - Jan 2, 2006

Strengths: It's Call of Duty, multiple playable characters.

Weakness: Very low detail in levels, not so good graphics.

I really liked the Call of Duty series on the PC. I have an Xbox and thought I should try out the console version of Call of Duty. What I found is low detail in the levels and not so pretty graphics. I like the game though because I like Call of Duty. It has some nice missions but other than that it is just like Medal of Honor.

4 Star Review   By member shrike424242 - Nov 8, 2005

Strengths: Varying storyline, XBL-capable

Weakness: Passable graphics, weak AI

Call of Duty: Finest Hour is an Xbox port of the PC title from 2004. It covers missions from various Allied factions in WW2, with shifting character vantage points through the game. With each change in character, it provides a different mission objective. The action is fast and furious, though the AI is a bit lacking at times. The graphics don't look the best, compared to the PC version, though it's made up with XBL gameplay. For WW2 shooter fans, this is one worth a look.

not its finest hour
4 Star Review   By member warlion - Oct 31, 2005

Strengths: great atmosphere, good variety in the missions

Weakness: checkpoints are few and far between, can get difficult at times

CALL OF DUTY IS A PORT OF THE PC GAME. THE GRAPHICS HERE ARE NOT AS GOOD AS ITS PC COUNTERPART, BUT WHAT IT LACKS IN LOOKS, IT MORE THAN MAKES UP FOR IN ATMOSPHERE. YOU GET TO FIGHT AND SHOOT IN THE RESPECTIVE BOOTS OF BRITISH, AMERICAN, AND RUSSIAN SOLDIERS IN THE DIFFICULT BATTLE AGAINST NAZI FORCES. THE FIRST LEVEL FROM THE GET-GO IS VERY INTENSE; IT PUTS YOU RIGHT THERE IN THE BATTLE OF STALINGRAD, WHERE THE RUSSIAN ARMY IS ATTEMPTING TO PUSH BACK THE INVADING GERMAN FORCES. IF YOU EVER SEEN THE MOVIE, "ENEMY AT THE GATES" , YOU'LL GET A PRETTY GOOD IDEA OF WHAT TO SEE AND EXPECT. IT GETS PRETTY SCARY AND INTENSE IN THE FIRST LEVEL AS ENEMY MACHINE GUNS RAIN DEADLY LEAD DEATH UPON YOU AND YOU LOOK AROUND AND SEE YOUR FELLOW COMRADES GETTING CUT TO PIECES. THIS GAME IS DEFINITELY NOT FOR THE KIDDIES, FOLKS. THE VOICE ACTING IS PRETTY GOOD ALSO, W/ THE ACTORS ACCURATELY PORTRAYING RUSSIAN, BRITISH, AND GERMAN ACCENTS. IT DOES GET FAIRLY DIFFICULT AT TIMES AND THE FACT THAT THE CHECKPOINTS ARE SPREAD FAR APART KNOCKS THIS GAME DOWN A FEW POINTS. BUT STILL, IT HAS MANY REDEEMING QUALITIES, LIKE LATER ON, YOU GET TO PLAY AS A FEMALE RUSSIAN SNIPER WHOSE SOLE JOB IS THE CUT DOWN THE GERMAN TROOPS TRYING TO INFILTRATE THE CITY FROM HER WINDOW PERCH. THE NERVOUS FEELING YOU GET WHEN YOU SEE THE GERMANS CALLING FOR TANK SUPPORT AND A PANZER TANK SLOWLY LUMBERS TOWARDS YOUR POSITION IS UNMATCHED. I WAS EXPECTING FOR THE TANK'S TURRET TO ZERO IN ON MY SNIPER PERCH AND BLOW ME TO KINGDOM COME. IT'S MOMENTS LIKE THIS THAT YOU REALLY APPRECIATE THE WORK THAT THE GAME DESIGNERS WENT TO RECREATE THE MOOD OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR. I RECOMMEND BUYING THIS GAME, BECAUSE IT HONESTLY IS A BLAST BEING SURROUNDED BY FALLING BOMBS AND ENEMY FIRE WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY CHARGING FORWARD W/ YOUR INFANTRY MATES AND CUTTING DOWN THE ENEMY W/ YOUR GUNS. TRULY A GREAT EXPERIENCE!

Call Of Duty
4 Star Review   By member shipwreck1 - Sep 23, 2005

Strengths: Variety of missions, good atmosphere and story, online play

Weakness: Somewhat short

Call Of Duty: Finest Hour is a first-person shooter set during World War II. You get to play as members of the Russian, British, and American armies as you fight against Nazi Germany. The level layout in this game is excellent and makes you take advantage of anything you can find for cover. The enemies will also seek cover and will fire at you from strategic locations. Sometimes the enemies just stupidly run out into the open, but for the most part, the enemy intelligence is pretty good. The story is set up in a very interesting manner as you are not the same person throughout the game. As you meet new characters along the way, you will then play the game from their point of view. I thought this did a pretty good job and keeping things fresh and giving the player more of an attachment to all of the characters. You start out as a Russian recruit and play through several missions with various characters. The missions are pretty varied also because there are general infantry missions, sniper missions, and tank missions. The graphics are decent and provide a good gritty atmosphere. The sound effects and voice acting is excellent and the orchestral soundtrack always kicks in when the action gets frantic. This is an above average shooter that I would recommend to anyone who likes war based games.

3 Star Review   By member jcal95 - Jan 28, 2005

Strengths: Good Story Line.

Weakness: Bad Graphics.

I have had this game for 3 days and have played almost all levels. I thought this game would be really great but turns out to be bad. I am not at all a big fan of the console but the graphics on this looks like it was made 3 years ago. Compare it to to the PC version and this game flat out stinks. It does have a good story line, as you play many differnt people during the war. At times you find you self in a dark area only to be shot up. And wheres the Colt .45? You only use a rifle and a sub-machine gun. Takes awhile to shoot up the Germans, sometimes takes a full clip to kill one German even when I shot them in the head!! Compare this game to the PC version and it is down right bad, if you have a new computer or a fast computer get the pc versions and you would be happy, or rent this game first to see for your self. Do not spend 50 bucks for something that is bad. Though the story line is good it may please most people out there. But sorry graphics are just terriable, maybe I will stick to the PC!
