All-Star Baseball 2004
4 Star Review  GameZone - Apr 21, 2003

Fortunately for us sports gaming fans, we’re in the middle of a really interesting year of baseball titles with new innovative features and improvements in various fronts. It’s beginning to become increasingly difficult to pick a title out of the lineup, but if it’s a game rich in baseball history you’re looking for then All-Star Baseball 2004 has what you’re looking for so batter up, diamond fans. Many of the old favorites are back again in this year’s edition, including the Home Run Derby as well as the player cards you can purchase and even the Trivia game is back.

4 Star Review  GameSpy - Mar 24, 2003

For indecisive PS2 baseball fans, this might be a troublesome spring. There are plenty of ways to enjoy our national pastime, and for the first time I can remember, most of the titles are pretty good. New to the console is the long-awaited World Series 2K3 from Sega Sports and MLB 2004 from Sony's own 989 Sports. Add to that a completely revamped MVP 2003 from EA Sports and the deepest version yet of 3D0's High Heat Baseball and you can see why the baseball shelf at your local Electronics Boutique is more crowded than Barry Bonds' trophy case. Acclaim's All-Star Baseball has been around for a while and has consistently delivered, but can the aging franchise still bring the heat against the current lineup of baseball titles?

All-Star Baseball 2004 (ps2)
4 Star Review  IGN.com - Feb 27, 2003

This has got to be the most competitive year for baseball games in the history of the market. Not only has 3DO already released the aging but valiant High Heat Baseball 2004 to a legion of adoring fans, but Sony, Sega, and Electronic Arts are fast on its heels with excellent offerings of their own. The next contender in a year of hardball greatness, however, is Acclaim Austin's returning favorite All-Star Baseball 2004. And while it's possible that this version could boast the most features of any title in the category this season, it shares quite a few threads with High Heat in the fact that it's beginning to reveal some geriatrics .

Decent game
2 Star Review   By member keelie - Mar 28, 2006

Strengths: Smooth graphics

Weakness: unrealistic

All star baseball 2004 has some decent graphics but the baseball playing is not very realistic. The gameplay is ok but nothing great. I would suggest getting some other MVP baseball games instead of this one. However, if you get this one real cheap, give it a spin. It's still enjoyable but certainly not great.

3 Star Review   By member eau697 - Feb 22, 2006

Strengths: Graphics and gameplay

Weakness: No better than others

ALl Star Baseball 2004 is about the same as all baseball games in the market. While the graphics is nice, it is rather unrealistic at times. The gameplay is good but not outstanding though. If you don't already have a baseball game, you can give this one a try. Otherwise, you won't get much new out of this game.

4 Star Review   By member chrishughes - Jun 2, 2005

Strengths: Gameplay

In today's competetive sports game market there is little to distingish between all the current baseball games out there. All Star Baseball 2004 is an impressive game yet does very little to move itself away from the pack. It is still an enjoyable game however.

2 Star Review   By member superoutlet - Apr 25, 2003

Strengths: Not much, but if i had to choose something then it would be the graphics...relatively smooth and fluid movements. Pitching is pretty good

Weakness: Unrealistic playing. The hitters box is small and not very clear. Hitters will run 1 base even if they hit a triple or double. Baserunners only run one base and never more unless you tell them to.

I really don't suggest getting this game. Try getting Triple Play or something else. For being a game that is supposed to be realistic, it isn't. Catcher's will catch a foul off the bat and get an out! That's absurd. I'd rather cut myself with a butter knife and squeeze lime juice on it than to play this game. Purchase at your own risk, but there are many better baseball games out there.
