Avatar: The Last Airbender-The Burning Earth
2 Star Review  GameZone - Dec 14, 2007

There are few cartoons that I will actually admit to watching, but Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the exceptions. It' s a smart show that takes ancient myth of the Orient and transposes it to a Saturday morning kids' show. Incredible! That's why it hurts extra deep to review a below-average next-gen port of a PS2 game. Fans of the series will love the writing, but there are too many holes in this game to stay afloat. Avatar is in search of an Earth Bending teacher, and it's up to you to get him there. You will go through ruined cities, swamps, and temples, button-mashing your way through hoards of nefarious creatures and deranged warriors.

Strengths: +Very easy achievements +Voice Actors/Sound +Multiplayer

Weakness: -graphics -Lack character variety -Simplistic hack/slash action -Story (season 2 condensed)

Yes it is true; players can achieve all the achievements in this game in mere minutes. For some gamers, those 1000 achieve points is reason enough to get this game. Outside those easy achievements, gamers will find a very mediocre game. Burning Earth roughly follows the events in season 2 of Avatar. Voice Actors from the series lend their voices to the game. The game does support co-op and playing with another gamer makes the game easier. However the game itself is not very challenging. Gamers can expect lots of hacking and slashing with this title. Graphics (characters and backgrounds) are uninspiring and unimpressive. Playable characters pretty much play identical to one another. The story in Burning Earth is based of season 2, but in a condensed form making the story less interesting. Avatar is a game only for fans of the show and achievement point fanatics.

Avatar The Burning Earth
3 Star Review   By member mj_f - Jun 1, 2008

Strengths: Decent use of the license, looks like the cartoon

Weakness: Mindless brawler that becomes repetitive

Avatar The Burning Earth is a decent game for someone who is a fan of the Avatar television series. For those who aren't it is probably not worth checking out. It makes good use of the license and looks good enough. The combat is pretty straightforward with the only requirement for most of the battling being to spam melee or ranged attacks (using different characters). The boss fights do feature some "quick time" (button matching) events but I've never been a big fan of these in any games - they are simply a cheap way to add variety. The one big plus of this game for achievement point junkies is that it has the most ludicrously easy 1000 achievement points to date. They can all be obtained within 2 minutes of starting up the game. Otherwise, only those with a big attachment to the cartoon itself will likely want to sit through the full game experience.

4 Star Review   By member gh0zt - Mar 19, 2008

Strengths: matches visual style of the show well. fun gameplay.

I bought this game for my little brother, so i'm taking his thoughts of the game. The game does a very good job in following the story of the second season of the popular nickelodeon cartoon. The colors and cel shading graphics do a good job in matching the visual style of the show. The gameplay is fast and entertaining. Recommended for fans of the show. Also, for the achievement enthusiasts out there, this game is a simple 1000 points.

Strengths: Did an effective job at emulating the show's style,Individual character controls are similar enough to prevent you getting thrown off, good graphics.

Weakness: Very simplistic. Once you've figured out the game, there are no new nuances from which to draw interest.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Burning Earth follows the events form the second season almost exactly. Here, we will see Aang search for an Earthbender master to teach him, and eventually attempt to save the Earth Kingdom capital of Ba Sing Se from the Fire Nation. This game is great for children who watch the TV show. Its puzzle solving elements offer a different type of challenge to the player. Overall it is a good game and I would recommend it.
