Top Spin 2
4 Star Review  GameZone - Apr 5, 2006

I have always found immense enjoyment with the sport of tennis, whether by watching it on TV, getting some fresh air and actually playing it, or hitting the courts virtually in video games. Sega’s Dreamcast hailed one of my favorite sports titles – scratch that – titles ever – Virtua Tennis. It was, in my opinion, the first game to strictly inhabit the sport. A year later, there was the unrealistic gem Mario Tennis on the GBC, which while unrealistic, was frankly a handheld masterpiece. But in 2003 things heated up when Top Spin from XSN Sports rolled around and reinvented the genre yet again with its responsive controls, flashy graphics, and online play.

One of the better tennis games
4 Star Review   By member cavalry12 - Dec 15, 2007

Strengths: Graphics are impressive Gameplay

Weakness: World tour mode

I loved the original Topspin on the Xbox, was expecting the same with improved graphics. But it turns out that the developer decided to implement some changes which, in my opinion, weren't necessary. The players and the ball seem to skate around the court which is a bit of a letdown.

Decent game especially at the lower price
4 Star Review   By member justin42 - May 28, 2007

Strengths: A fun sequel, good graphics, varied backgrounds

Weakness: Not a lot of major differences from the first game, a bit more difficult than you might expect

Tennis is one of those games that dates back to the very beginning of the video game revolution. (Pong, anyone?) On one hand, the games can be a lot of fun (Virtua Tennis), but on the other, they can be very repetitive (many other tennis games). Top Spin 2 falls somewhere in the middle. As the sequel to a pretty good Xbox game, it has a lot to live up. In many ways, I feel that it does-- it does bring Top Spin up to the 360's level. But in some ways that's about all it does. Yes, it has more modes and the like, but it doesn't seem too much different than the first game. If anything, it seems much more difficult. If you're not a heavy player of Top Spin, you might find yourself really frustrated for a while. I haven't played the Xbox 360 version of Virtua Tennis yet, but I always have preferred the Virtua Tennis series to the Top Spin series. That isn't to say Top Spin 2 is a bad game-- far from it. It just depends on if you want a pick up and play game, or one you have to spend more time with. If you liked Top Spin in the past and want more, this is the game for you. Just don't expect a whole lot. I would like to give this 3.5 stars, but I can't. I'll round up to 4 stars to compensate for my Virtua Tennis bias. I'd give it 4 stars if you're really into tennis, or like sports games with a bit of a challenge. If you just want a quick pick up and play arcady tennis game, I'd think this is closer to 3 stars and you might want to check out Virtua Tennis.

Top Spin 2 for XBOX 360
4 Star Review   By member SC4SHURA - Apr 27, 2007

Strengths: Nice graphic. Easy controll.

Weakness: Loading is too often and takes long.

I liked the previous version of Top Spin for my old XBOX. Game controlling and flow are almost the same as the old one. But Top Spin is equipped with cooler graphics and volume. I like the option for beginners, which let you play with the ease of mind without worrying about flying balls too far. I found loading and saving rather annoying, but bearable. Good choice if you liked the old one.

might be the best tennis game so far
4 Star Review   By member allen9917 - Apr 14, 2007

Strengths: graphics, gameplay

Weakness: sound is not very realistic, no replay

This is one of the best, if not the best tennis game so far. If you have ever thought buying a tennis game, I recommend this one, of course if you have an 360. The graphics and play selection are much better than the previous one, and the gameplay is very fun. Player movements look smooth. The career mode is also improved, now with the ability to play on week to week schedule over the course of several years.

Top Spin 2
4 Star Review   By member terthen - Apr 11, 2007

Strengths: solid graphics, easy to learn gameplay

Weakness: not much evolution from Top Spin 1

Worth it when purchased on sale. I didn't notice too much difference from this game and the 1st Top Spin, which isn't a bad thing. Fun gameplay, easy to learn, graphics are definitely crisper in HD, but overall I feel this is pretty similar to Top Spin 1. Fun game though.

Great value title for Xbox 360
4 Star Review   By member ktgivers - Apr 1, 2007

Strengths: Affordable, uses real players, mechanics are not too challenging but not too arcade-y

Weakness: Not a very deep game, limited replay value

Tennis, anyone? Granted it's not as popular as Madden or MLB 2K7, but it's still a great sim. Playing against (or as) a pretty nice contemporary roster of tennis greats is fun, and the mechanics of the game are not too difficult to pick up. Looks terrific on a hi-def set.

Realistic Tennis Game
4 Star Review   By member andyschiu - Mar 30, 2007

Strengths: Sponsors, Authenticity, Character Design

Weakness: No Replays, Some key players missing (Nadal, Clijsters)

PROS: Character Design- one of the most fun aspects of the game is creating new characters and designing everything about them right down to the last detail. Graphics- some of the best backgrounds and rendering that I've seen in a tennis game Tournaments- you can actually play in real recreations of major tournaments (Australian Open, Wimbledon, US Open, etc) Variety in players abilities- I love that you can design all of a characters skill and strenghts and not just a few. CONS: Player Sounds- the grunts from the players are limited and very unrealistic. No More Replay- one of the cool features about the original was being able to watch a good play over in slow motion. Why did they take that away? Where are Nadal, Serena, Safin, Clijsters and Henin-Hardenne?

Solid, Mechanics are awesome
4 Star Review   By member mordal1 - Mar 22, 2007

Strengths: I played this game when it first came out for earlier generation consoles and loved it. I like that you can no longer camp out close to the net for easy spikes, makes it harder to compete.

Weakness: It's almost identical to earlier versions. No upgrade in graphics, i think. After years of working on this I expected something more polished.

I bought it and play it often, but find it lackluster some times. It's a good pick up if your looking for something you can just pick up and play. It's harder than its previous versions so be ready for some tough competition!

Top Spin 2
3 Star Review   By member ssimp12626 - Mar 8, 2007

Strengths: graphics

Weakness: repetitive

Top Spin 2 is a pretty good tennis game. YOu get to create your own player and customize it however you want. It has excellent visuals, good online play, very realisitic looking. Top Spin 2 has a good career mode, very good detail. All in all it is pretty decent I'd say it was an improvement over the original top spin for the xbox.

Great Game
4 Star Review   By member mvick288 - Dec 23, 2006

Strengths: Graphics, Player Depth, Career Mode, Price,

Weakness: Not enough players

Wow, where can i start with the greatness of this game. The game retails at 40 but can be easily be bought for much much less. It is so much fun playing this game. The Graphics complement the career mode and the ability to play on many different courts around the world, in official tournaments such as the US Open. The player models are amazing and the improvement of the game from Top Spin 1 is so much better. I lvoe this game.. Go out and Buy it. it is a game great for real tennis players and is arcadey but realistic.

A Real Tennis Game
4 Star Review   By member FujiRider - Oct 23, 2006

Strengths: Advance Gameplay, Career Mode

Weakness: Limited number of players, Graphics

Top Spin 2 is a tennis player's tennis game. It isn't the arcade style of game with advance moves and power ups. Tennis played in this game is very similar to how tennis is in real life. I enjoyed playing this game very much and building your own character just adds to the game. I spent many hours improving my custom player to be ranked #1. If you are a true tennis fan, this is a great game.

Top Spin 2 (Xbox 360)
4 Star Review   By member mtxbass1 - Sep 7, 2006

Strengths: Controls very well. Sounds great. Good online play. Solid single player experience.

Weakness: Feels like topspin 1.5...

Top Spin 2 is the only game out right now for the Xbox 360. It builds off of the solid foundation of the original Top Spin for the Xbox. The game has multiple modes. The career mode is very solid and will provide quite a lasting experience for a complete playthrough. Players are able to improve skills as they go along, as well as purchase new outfits/equipment. The gameplay itself is pretty solid, and plays like the first Top Spin. The only problem I see is that there isn't much new innovation here. Top Spin 2 is basically Top Spin with a new coat of paint. That being said, it's still a solid pickup for fans of the series.

Prepare to be frustrated.
4 Star Review   By member Ma12kez - Sep 3, 2006

Strengths: Good graphics, online matches, fun gameplay, and easy to pick up and play.

Weakness: Career Mode is unforgiving, could have been more tennis stars, and the CPU is cheap at times.

Top Spin 2 is a great overall tennis game that's fun for people of all backgrounds (from the hardcore, to the casual gamer). The controls are tight and solid, the gameplay is great, and playing on-line is always a lot of fun. However, it's a totally different game when you go into Career Mode. This mode is the major flaw of this game because it's way too hard for the average gamer to pick up and play. You literally have to be a perfectionist to actually play through the career mode. If you don't get a perfect score during the training levels you'll lose out on very precious stat points. The game pits you against better and better players as you progress, and if you don't keep up with you're training (stat points) as well, you'll never get to the semi-finals in any tournament. The difficulty of the career mode is really the only things that's wrong with this game. If you're looking for a good tennis game, look no further. However, Virtua Tennis 3 is supposed to be released by the end of this year. So you might want to wait until that is out before you decide which tennis game to get.

Not as fun as I thought it would be.
2 Star Review   By member dhewlett - Aug 21, 2006

Strengths: Cool arenas. Not bad graphics.

Weakness: Not really fun. A bit to hard for people who dont play tenis games normally.

I am not a real fan of this game. I played for quite a while and was disappointed at how the players could not get to a lot of the balls. I ended up mostly being frustrated by the game play. Unless you are a die hard tennis video gamer, I would steer clear of this one.

5 Star Review   By member cyclone35 - Jun 7, 2006

Strengths: easy gameplay, realistic movements

Weakness: unfair advantages are given to certain types of players

This game is very cool and took about 15 minutes to learn how to play. This is one of the few sports games where it takes more than a week to complete the career mode. Overall, definitely the best sports game for the 360 so far.
