Shadowrun
4 Star Review  GameZone - Jun 11, 2007

The original Xbox was known as the shooter console with several high-profile first-person shooters being released for the console. The 360 is shaping up to be the same with even more impressive first-person shooters. One game that came out of left field was Shadowrun. The entire Sci-Fi/Fantasy Role-playing setting of the series was being shoved into a first-person shooter. Some fans cried outrage while I thought it was bold idea to try something completely different for a well-known title. What we ended up with was a great playing game brought down by the now standard next-generation price point.

Shadowrun Just For Fun!
3 Star Review   By member FOnewearl - Jul 1, 2008

Strengths: Spells & Tecs, Play With Windows Vista Users

Weakness: No Single Player, Could Have Used More Maps

Shadowrun takes place in the Shadowrun universe but is really just a multiplayer game and does little to nothing to add storywise to the Shadowrun universe. You will be able to play on one of two different teams and will be able to buy different magic spells & tecs in order to give your character special abilities. The game itself is very much like counter strike with a small twist thrown in with the spells. The game itself is rather short lived with it being multiplayer only with only 9 big maps and 3 more of which are scaled down versions of 3 of the 9 bigger maps. I would recommend renting Shadowrun before buying as while it is a solid outing at what it does it is rather limited and hard to warrent a purchase at until it hits the $20 and under mark

Shadowrun (Xbox 360)
2 Star Review   By member shrike424242 - May 29, 2008

Strengths: Magic adds in tactical elements, decent gameplay

Weakness: Online-only game, barely any online players

Shadowrun is a tactical action shooter set in a futuristic environment with magic and weapons. The magic adds in some interesting elements, such as flying, teleportation and healing, though with that stripped away, it's a decent tactical shooter. Unfortunately, the game is online only and there's barely anyone playing it anymore. Without people you know with the game, there's not much gameplay to had. If it wasn't online-only, there would be more value to the game.

Shadowrun Should Stay in the Shadows
1 Star Review   By member nimblebunny - Apr 13, 2008

Strengths: Online play can be fun at times. You can play with computer users as well as XBOX 360 users. Magical elements add a good dimension to gameplay.

Weakness: DO NOT GET THIS GAME IF YOU DO NOT HAVE OR PLAN TO HAVE AN XBOX LIVE GOLD ACCOUNT. Without the account, you'll be left playing some training missions and cursing the fact that you bought the game.

Luckily, I had a trial membership to XBOX Live Gold when I got the game. It's got decent online gameplay, but there are a lot better games out there. This game essentially suffers from a Catch-22. If you have an XBOX Live Gold account, you would be better served playing the dozens of superior online-oriented games. If you don't have an XBOX Live Gold account, then this game is essentially worthless to you after the training missions are completed. I got rid of this game as soon as my trial membership to XBOX Live Gold ended and haven't regretted it one bit. In addition, those of you who are familiar with the original Shadowrun will be severely disappointed at the route the designers of this game chose to take with it. It is unrecognizable to the original.

Shadowrun [of-the-mill] (resubmitted review from February of '08)
2 Star Review   By member neschamp - Apr 1, 2008

Strengths: The use of magic as a part of gameplay manages to separate it somewhat from other First Person Shooters.

Weakness: The vast majority of the game can only be enjoyed via an XBOX LIVE Gold membership.

I was initially excited for this game when it was first announced and development for it began. I always thought the 'Shadowrun' franchise was in need of a revival, but Fasa Studio and Microsoft did a pretty poor job of making this a fun, replayable game that was true to its roots. Shadowrun pulls some elements from the old role playing game (such as different character classes, futuristic technology and the use of magic). These cool additions were squandered by the developers and made nothing more than window dressing for this flavor of the month FPS. Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, and The Orange Box all blow this game away. This title is nothing more than average.

More like Shadow-walk.
2 Star Review   By member Admiral_Ackbar - Nov 28, 2007

Strengths: It's a decent multiplayer FPS.

Weakness: It's just a decent multiplayer FPS.

Shadowrun is an okay game. But in a world full of online shooters, that isn't good enough. The graphics are okay, magic is a nice touch, the gameplay is fine. But there's nothing really spiffy or stands out. If you're looking for a online FPS, try some of the other games in the offering like RB6 Vegas or Gears or Halo 3. But if you like the setting of Shadowrun and want to give another shooter a try, you could do worse. So try it on the cheap. rental or budget buy.

Would have been fun 6 months ago
2 Star Review   By member prayformojo2 - Nov 20, 2007

Strengths: Requires some strategy in selecting character class, weapons, tech and magic

Weakness: Cannot compete with more recent shooters released on the XBOX 360

Initially, I really enjoyed the game; however, given the releases of Halo 3, The orange box and Call of Duty 4, I just am no longer interested in playing Shadowrun. It is not that Shadowrun is a bad game, its just not as much fun for me as these more recent shooters. I always struggled with the gameplay, which seemed a little overly-complicated with all the various options. Maybe I just like my shooters to be more pick up and play. Also Shadowrun does not ship with many different gametypes or maps and FASA the studio that developed the game has been disbanded, so chances of DLC is unlikely. Overall, I would have enjoyed this more had I purchased it when it first launched, but currently there are too many other online shooters that I would recommend before picking up Shadowrun; however, I would recommend any online shooter fan rent the game, because it does offer a unique class based element to online multiplayer and would make for a nice weekend of fun.

Rentible
3 Star Review

Strengths: This game is short lived and somewhat addicting. the magic is a never get old bit. and the katana was a nice touch.

Weakness: the game as you know was no campain and is not a epic online game such as halo and other games.

All in all the game is prity fun, but once you mastered it and get borde of it its not worth 60 dollors. the game is most definetly worth renting if you have the spare time but other wise i dont suggest buying it.

It's not that bad!
3 Star Review   By member tpino84 - Jun 15, 2007

Strengths: The magical elements DO help make it more then just another FPS. Yes, it's like Counter-Strike, but it's Counter-Strike with magical elements.

Weakness: It's an online only game. That's weak. There's 6 offline training missions, but everything else is solely done online.

If online FPS are your thing, you'll like this. If you enjoyed Counter-Strike, you'll like this. It's not a bad game, but it's not really anything impressive. The magical elements DO add uniqueness to the game, but again.. nothing to be solely impressed by. The lack of a campaign/offline mode really sucks.

Good Game
4 Star Review

Strengths: Great online, Interesting multiplayer dynamics

Weakness: not enough maps, needs some more downloadable content

You could say that the game is lacking, but if you ask me the game is worth a try. The game is an entire online muliplayer affair and that could turn off some gamers, but the game itself does have some great elements. Combining deathmatch gameplay and magic realy turns this game from a hohum online only game to a fun affair. I will say though that there aren't very maps right now and i hope that microsoft comes out with some downloadable content soon because the game will start to wear thin with the lack of leaderboard features and maps. Overall its a game worth a try. I do recommend that you rent the game first because online only doesn't sit too well with some people.
