Star Trek: Legacy
3.5 Star Review  GameZone - Dec 28, 2006

Star Trek is one of the most popular space “”sci-fi” franchises around. While Star Wars tends to occupy itself with huge battles and survival, Star Trek focuses more on exploitation of the universe (although it does have its fair share of conflict and space battles). Star Trek has had numerous books, television shows, movies, comic books, and games based on this franchise. Now the developers at Bethesda have developed a new Star Trek game that encompasses all five Star Trek television series timelines. Star Trek: Legacy gives players the opportunity to play as all five captains (Archer, Kirk, Picard, Sisko, and Janeway.

Star trek legacy
3 Star Review   By member gh0zt - Sep 14, 2008

Strengths: captures star trek combat well, starships models look very good

Weakness: difficulty

Fans of star trek and this game genre will enjoy this game. Star trek combat is nicely captured in this game. The graphics and sound do a very good job creating a videogame replica of the star trek universe. The missions themselves can be very tedious and unforgiving at times. Some missions take a very long time and must be redone all over again just because you forgot to do certain objectives.

Star Trek Legacy
4 Star Review   By member mj_f - Feb 4, 2008

Strengths: All-encompassing set of missions covers all Star Trek series, original voice actors, decent fun

Weakness: Very short, combat can get repetetive

Star Trek Legacy ties together all the various Star Trek television series into one story arc, allowing players to control all the Enterprise vessels. The missions start off mostly as simple combat runs, which can get a bit tiresome. But the variety picks up later in the game. The original cast provides the voice acting here, which is essential to most fans. The game is somewhat short, but there is a skirmish mode and online battles that can extend the gameplay of the single-player campaign.

StarTrek Legacy
3 Star Review   By member ssimp12626 - Dec 31, 2007

Strengths: graphics

Weakness: short

StarTrek Legacy lets you control the entire StarTrek universe including the original StarTrek series through StarTrek Enterprise. Legacy has a good single player component but it is a bit short. Multiplayer is ok. If you are a fan of StarTrek you should enjoy playing this.

Miss the mark...
2 Star Review   By member AAnimedude - Oct 1, 2007

Strengths: +Features all 5 star trek shows/eras +Decent story

Weakness: -Controls too frustrating -Lots of content cut (rushed out to stores) -Frustrating difficulty level

There have been very few good star trek games. Legacy makes the brave attempt at being one of those few, but manages to miss the mark. At first glance, this appears to be a good effort. The game looks decent, covers a wide variety of the universe, and has a decent story connecting the eras. The problem arises when one attempts to play the game. The difficulty is frustrating. Controls are a mess. The game appears to be half-finished. And it is simply not fun to play. Too bad, because with a little more development time, this could have been alot of fun.

Star Trek: Legacy (Xbox 360)
4 Star Review   By member shrike424242 - Aug 30, 2007

Strengths: Good voice acting, covers all Star Trek timeframes, immersive Star Trek universe, good graphics

Weakness: Steep learning curve, sloppy controls

Star Trek: Legacy is a tactical action game set across the four Star Trek timeframes. It involves piloting various Federation, Klingon, Romulan and Borg starships through different types of missions. The voice acting for all the Federation captains is done well and has the original actors' voices. The game has a steep learning curve, magnified by sloppy and difficult controls. Die-hard Star Trek fans will look past these issues and get the good looking, deep Star Trek experience the publishers were aiming for.

Next Gen Star Trek
3 Star Review   By member thebob101 - Jul 21, 2007

Strengths: Characters in missions, graphics

Weakness: mission difficulty

Star Trek Legacy goes where no other Star Trek game has gone where both current and next gen consoles haven't in quite some time. The ship models are beautiful and the story line touches on each one of the famed captains in the Star Trek series. The missions tend to be a bit difficult and the multiplayer just doesn't seem quite right, but for $40 you can't go wrong (if you are a fan of Star Trek).

Great for the Trek fan...
4 Star Review   By member Karyyk - May 21, 2007

Strengths: Lots of ships from all Star Trek eras, voiced by the Captains from Kirk to Archer, nice ship visuals, strategic gameplay...

Weakness: Slow pacing, uneven difficulty, cumbersome controls.

If you're a Star Trek fan, then you must pick this game up. The ships look great, and while initially hard to handle, once you get the controls down, you're in for a good time. The amount of options available are nice, with plenty of ships for each era (including a number I don't recall seeing before). I've seen some complaints concerning how slow the game is, and if you're wanting authenticity, then do you really expect the Enterprise to be zipping about like an X-Wing fighter? The ship battles in Star Trek were always meant to mimic those of naval warfare (nowhere better illustrated that the submarine-inspired battle in 'The Wrath of Khan') and when you take that in consideration, that's when you can give your twitchy trigger finger a rest and get into the meat of the battle system...strategy. Controlling your 'fleet' of four ships has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get it down, meeting objectives and crushing the opposition can be quite gratifying. There are some not so great points, such as the slightly underwhelming production values (come one, this is Star Trek...too many resources at your disposal to come up lacking) and that the captains sound like they're half asleep during their voice overs (except for Archer, who sounds amped up). Seriously though, aside from the learning curve and the decision to make a hulking starship control like a hulking starship (which to me isn't a bad thing), you'll find plenty to like about Legacy if you're a Trek fan.

Trekkies
3 Star Review   By member Denbo32 - Apr 26, 2007

Strengths: Great game for Trekkies. Great detail to all star trek fans. Semi fun, story line fits right in.

Weakness: If you are not a Trekkie, much of it won't make sense

Decent game, but a must play for star trek fans. Brings back memories. I would avoid if not a big fan of star trek series. On it own it a average game, not terrible, but not a ton of fun.

Star Trek legacy
4 Star Review   By member mattchatt - Apr 20, 2007

Strengths: Solid gameplay, good visuals and gripping storyline

Weakness: terrible physics, shabby environments

Star trek legacy is an under-rated game that offers an insight into what it is like to pilot a ship from the star trek universe. trek fans will be hooked on the story which informs of the origins of the borg collective. The game offers skirmishes giving you the opportunity to command federation, klingon, Romulan and borg fleets. The piloting system is slow but owing to the size of the ships it represents the physics well. However, drift into another ship or even a ridicuously proportioned planet and you will just bounce straight off, showing the games 'unpolished' features. The space environments are shabbily designed and clash with the superb graphics of the ships themselves. i would reccomend you rent this game rather than buy it as the gameplay can be repetitive and will not leave you satisfied for long.
