Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
4 Star Review  GameZone - Nov 7, 2006

Superhero-based videogames have generally carried on a tradition of poor gameplay, shallow storyline, and un-welcomed brevity. I guess that is what makes Marvel: Ultimate Alliance stand out. The developers have really focused on delivering a title with multiple Marvel worlds, a very impressive array of playable characters and super villains for boss fights, and a well-designed skill-enhancement mechanic. Does Marvel: Ultimate Alliance play perfectly? Certainly not, but it’s still a fun experience for any comic fan or anyone in the mood for some “clobbering-time!” The game revolves around Dr.

Not bad, fun action title
4 Star Review   By member SpazX - Mar 16, 2008

Strengths: Fun singleplayer and multiplayer action, great use of Marvel characters

Weakness: RPG elements aren't that great

I love action games and I love Marvel characters, so this game is a great fit for me and is superior to its X-men Legends forebears. With more Marvel characters available there is better selection for characters and many more powers to use, which makes the game much more interesting. However, I don't really like the RPG elements as far as the upgrades to characters. You have to focus on a few or you won't upgrade very well, which I don't particularly like, but I'm not a big RPG guy anyway. The multiplayer is great, since you have friends to beat up the enemy with, and your friends are usually a bit better than the AI helping you in singleplayer mode, but both are still a lot of fun.

Fun for the whole family!
5 Star Review   By JeffreyG on Home Depot - Jan 27, 2008

Since I purchased this game from Home Depot, my wife and I have not stopped playing it. We love the fact that we can play together and rotate which heroes we will play each level. You can even upgrade your hero to become stronger, better, and have new powers! I even like the fact that you can have a total of four players playing at once. Bring back family night with Ultimate Alliance!

Marvel's Ultimate Game
4 Star Review   By member Brainwave0 - Dec 28, 2007

Strengths: Tons of Marvel characters; Multiple outfits; Online and offline co-op

Weakness: Slightly repetetive game mechanic

If you are a fan of the Marvel universe and hack and slash gameplay, you simply need to get this game! A ton of characters are available and they each have multiple outfits to choose from after you have unlocked them. The game has a tendency to get a bit repetitive with the button mashing, but that is to be expected with this genre. This issue is totally redeemed by the fact that you can play with up to 4 people at a time, on the same box or over Live. This game follows the current trend of allowing for online co-op! It's awesome to be able to duke it out online with some pals from far far away (or your lazy bud from down the street). Replayability is certainly there with the different costumes and unlockable characters.

been there, played that...
3 Star Review   By member ToddManG - Aug 6, 2007

Strengths: tons of characters, great fun if you haven't already played X-Men Legends

Weakness: dumb ai teammates, repetitive gameplay, graphics are nothing special , game crashes (my system only??)

If you've played X-Men Legends 1 or 2 then you've already played MUA. It's basically the same action RPG with new characters added. There's a ton of characters which is cool, but also causes a problem because you either just pick a few that you like or are constantly changing them out just to play around with the others. The character management has really been dumbed down since the legends games as well. You can manage characters special moves but that's about it. Character stats are now done automatically and each character only has 1 item slot, making the loot gathering portion of this game pretty weak. It's not very graphically impressive and doesn't look much better than the original Xbox version to me. I didn't see any other reviews mention the game crashing so this might be my system, but it's still necessary to mention. The game is constantly spinning and when I go to the menus or character setup sometimes it gets lost and the disc stops completely. Then I get a message saying that the disc is dirty and the game exits. It's gotten so bad that I always have to save before I go to a menu just in case it locks up. If this is the fault of the game and not my 360 then this would have gotten 1 star only.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance
5 Star Review   By member Venent - Jul 30, 2007

Strengths: Tons of characters, excellent graphics, fun top-down gameplay

Weakness: Expensive downloadable content

This game is so much fun. You get to play as so many characters from the Marvel Universe, and the villains are great too. The game plays from a top-down perspective and is little more than punching and kicking your way through a level (but the special moves are really excellent). Each character can be leveled up and customized to how you see fit. Overall, an excellent game. If you want to play as the Hulk or some other characters not included, you have to download them at a cost of $10. That's way to expensive for the little bit of content received.

Great Comic Book game
4 Star Review   By member monsoonman - Jul 27, 2007

Strengths: +Impressive cast of Marvel characters +Replay ability +Multiplayer +Authentic to the comic book +Downloadable characters +Innovative boss challenegs +Unlockable character costumes +Great story

Weakness: -Comic Book missions hard -Gold edition -Repetitive

Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a comic book fans dream come true. Similar to the X-men Legends series, is a real time combat action RPG. You control a group of superheroes, up to 4, and hack/slash your way through the game. The cool part of this game is the variety of superhero powers/teams you can use. Multiplayer is great, players can be come in and out of games whenever they want. On the negative side, if you aren't much of a comic book fan the dialogue and gameplay will be repetitive rather quickly. The XBox 360 version of this game boosts some exclusive superheros including the recently released superhero/villain pack available on xbox marketplace. Overall, if you are a comic book fan you owe it to yourself to try out this game. You will not be disappointed. However I would recommend the Gold version of Ultimate Alliance so you don't have to spend points on the extra characters over on xbox marketplace.

Finally, a Marvel game as big as the mythos itself...
4 Star Review   By member Karyyk - Jul 15, 2007

Strengths: Huge line-up of characters, largely faithful to the comics, tons of extras (3 alternative forms per character).

Weakness: Repetitive action, confusing menus, a few 'what were they thinking?' moments for comic fans.

One of the best games for the XBOX 360, Marvel Ultimate Alliance manages to cram as much comic-book goodness into a single game as any has before it. If you've played the X-Men Legends games, then you know what to expect here, a huge roster of Marvel heroes with their signature powers and alternative forms to boot. Everyone from heavy hitters Thor and Spiderman as here, as well as some less than top-tier characters (Blade, Luke Cage, Elektra, etc.). The inclusion of Iron Man was key for me, as he's my favorite Marvel hero, and one of the more useful characters in the game. The game controls well, and looks particularly good on the 360, as it takes advantage of the systems advanced lighting and texture capabilities. The frame rate is constant and fluid, and there's little you won't like here. The camera angles can be tough to deal with at times, but compared to some other versions (Wii...ugh), this one is a pleasure. This is easily one of the most playable (and replayable) titles on the XBOX 360. With a ton of unlockable content (and more that you can download from XBOX Live), and some of the better multiplayer available (competitive and co-op), this one will keep you busy for a good while, and keep a smile on your face all the while. Excelsior!

Excellent Gameplay, Especially for Multiple Players
4 Star Review   By member bballcards - Jul 6, 2007

Strengths: Great game if you have a lot of friends to play with.

Weakness: Gameplay can become repetitive.

This game is an overall excellent game, especially if you enjoy Marvel characters and the Gauntlet-style gameplay. Characters can become unlocked and can gain extra powers as you gain experience. This arcade-like experience can be very entertaining, especially with multiple players. However, like many arcade games, the simple style of gameplay can become repetitive. This type of game probably won't satisfy the more sophisticated gamers.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance
5 Star Review   By member shipwreck1 - May 3, 2007

Strengths: Large cast of marvel characters, good multiplayer, lots of unlockables

Weakness: Linear level design, awkward multiplayer save system

Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a great piece of fan service and a really solid game. The main mechanics of the game center around typical beat 'em up dungeon crawler staples: repeatedly use combo attacks to disperse thousands of would be attackers while you level up your characters. And there are lots of characters to choose from for your 4 person party. Each of these characters has four different costumes that can be unlocked that each have their own attributes that can be leveled up. The whole game is a blast to play and the online multiplayer works well. My only gripe with this game is that the save system can be a little strange in that multiplayer games are saved as new games that you can very easily get confused with your single player game save. If you are a Marvel fan, you will love this game.

Marvel at this game.
4 Star Review   By member The_Admiral - Apr 24, 2007

Strengths: Everything plus the kitchen sink of comics. Looks great. Fun.

The sucessor to the Xmen series of games for the Xbox, Marvel Ultimate Alliance lets you create a group of your favorite marvel heroes to fight evil. This is a great action/adventure game. You can play it alone or in co-op mode which is a lot of fun. I haven't had as much fun playing co-op since Halo. They story is well made and you can tell the game was crafted by people who know and love comics. There are plenty of unlockables and side stories based on the characters. If you're a comics fan, pick this up.

One of the Best Marvel Games Ever!!
4 Star Review   By member WeaponX2099 - Apr 20, 2007

Strengths: Graphics, Amount of Characters

Weakness: Slightly Annoying Camera, needs ninjas

I love this game, period. It's the best Marvel Comic game since Marvel vs. Capcom 2. The best part about the game is the characters. Most of major heroes in the Marvel universe is in this game. Pick your four favorites and bash the crap out of the villains. One only complaint is the camera, it's not the best at times, but it doesn't completely kill the buzz of the game.

Marvel UA is Pretty Good
4 Star Review   By member thebob101 - Apr 1, 2007

Strengths: Playable characters, gameplay

Weakness: Camera angle at times can be frustrating

Marvel Ultimate Alliance for the Xbox 360 sports the prettiest graphics of all of the ports. The top down camera angle can be a bit frustrating at times, but the character choices make up for that. Along with the usual suspects, MUA also includes some nice suprises like Ghost Rider and Dr. Strange. The single-player campaign is quite fun with a lot of side missions to occupy your time. Definitely a must have for any Marvel fan.

Thor or Spider-man?
4 Star Review   By member egofed - Mar 20, 2007

Strengths: Many powers, comic geek touches, RPG style advancement

Weakness: Gameplay gets stale after hours of play, costumes shouldn't have assigned powers

Somehow I really played a ton of this over any other 360 game, even Gears of War. The RPG style advancement had me hooked, even though I typically do not play them. As an old comic fan, I dug seeing Captain America and Thor put the beatdown on Doctor Doom. Many special powers are available, but the enemies are not special enough to warrant their use. Tons of fodder grunts attack you, but it feels just a little unfulfilling when the bosses don't react to a mystic Hammer throw to the head. If you played Xmen Legends 1 or 2, then you know what to expect, otherwise, rent it first.

Marvel - ultimate alliance
3 Star Review   By member jinyu1 - Mar 2, 2007

Strengths: Characters

Weakness: Game play

Marvel - ultimate alliance is basically a cartoon game. The graphics are so so; i.e. looks like cartoon. The strength of the game is its characters - lots of them. So you have plenty of choices. Each character has a different fighting style. However, the game play is rather boring. Basically, you just fight through all the enemies you encounter. There is really no strategy involved. So the game is good for you if you are a Marvel cartoon fan.

Enjoyable co-op game
3 Star Review   By member mchenoweth16 - Feb 15, 2007

Strengths: many Marvel characters, good graphics, fun co-op game

Weakness: a little repetative

This game is really fun to play co-op. You can choose from many characters in the Marvel universe and even get different costumes for the different characters. As you fight through the levels you get points that increase your characters abilities with more powerful attacks and such. The graphics look really good and the sound is alright. The spoken dialog is kinda cheesy, but that is the nature of some comics. Fun game overall

Very fun game
5 Star Review   By member dhewlett - Jan 25, 2007

Strengths: Cool Super Powers, Very Wide Range of Heros, Interesting levels, Fun Gameplay

Weakness: Not too many. The gameplay is very linear. I guess some of the villain names are far fetched.

This game has been fun since minuet 1. I have played mostly 2 player on this one and it is great. There are a ton of heroes that you can play and the powers seem pretty cool. There are a bunch of different levels and not all the enemies are the same so the game doesn't get too repetitive. The replay value of this game makes it a much better buy than a rent. If you like team RPG or super hero games games this one is good.
