Eragon
3 Star Review  GameZone - Nov 29, 2006

Movie to video-game conversions used to be the worst games on the shelves until recently. It seemed like the developers were out to make a quick buck and really rushed the development cycle and gamers were left with a half-finished game with shoddy controls and graphics. Lately that trend has been dissipating but it is still not extinct yet. The latest (book-to-) movie-to-video-game conversion is Eragon. As stated earlier this game is based off the movie with the same name. The story begins when a young farm boy finds a dragon egg deep within the forest of the Spine Mountains.

Eragon (XBOX 360)
2 Star Review   By member cotebryan - Dec 27, 2007

Strengths: (1) Inexpensive and might entertain youngsters if they are not easily frustrated

Weakness: (1) Bland graphics (2) Poor enemy AI (3) Unpredictable camera (4) Shallow and repetitive gameplay

I figured I would give Eragon a chance seeing as how it was very inexpensive and might provide a rental's worth of value. It was a decent distraction for a couple of minutes but it is very hard to play through such a generic and unpolished game when there are so many better offerings waiting on the shelf. The game itself lacks any sort of cohesive plot development or structure and comes off as a repetitive, if disjointed, affair. Most of the game is onfoot fighting, however, once in a while you can get assistance from your dragon or actually ride it (which is a chore in itself). Overall, stay away from this one unless you really want to give it a chance and you find it cheap.

10 bucks or less...
3 Star Review   By member egofed - Dec 1, 2007

Strengths: Co-op play is fun. Some neat animations in the kill moves

Weakness: repetitive action. Dragon controls sloppy

Eragon has received terrible reviews just about anywhere you look, but the game is really not that bad. Just don,t expect more than an action hack and slash fest and you and a friend can have decent fun playing together. The dragon riding parts are probably the worst part of the game. Eragon can be bought really cheap now, so if you like "Golden Axe" style gameplay, give it a go.

Eragon
2 Star Review   By member mj_f - Nov 26, 2007

Strengths: Wow, none

Weakness: A 360 port of a poor last-gen game. Gameplay is boring, camera is horrible, and it does not convey the story of the book very well either.

Hey, a video game based on a book (and movie) about a Dragon-riding hero? How could this possibly not be a huge hit? Well, they found a way. For one, the game was designed for Playstation 2-level graphics and then ported to the 360. So while the graphics are improved over the PS2 version, they aren't improved by much. Second, the gameplay consists mostly of on-foot missions with very little actual Dragon riding. And third, the story gets short shrift in the adaptation and, unless you know the story from the book or movie, it won't make much sense. All in all, stay away from this one!

4 Star Review

Strengths: gameplay was alot of fun, and nothing to hard to think about just killing and killing.

Weakness: IT was a bit repetitive at times, but overall not many weaknesses

i think the game was a lot of fun, and really was much better than i thought it would be. Flying on the dragon and burning things up was a cool change in scenery, and the last fight scene is awesome.I would recommend this game to just about anyone

1 Star Review   By member Pookymeister - Nov 4, 2007

Strengths: Dragons are neat, so battles can be fun at times Achievements are easy

Weakness: bad gameplay overall

This game is another example of how licensed games usually are not good at all. Only reason I bought this game was because it was dirt cheap and supposedly was easy to beat and get 360 achievements. In fact, it was so bad I didn't even finish the game. If you have interest in the movie ( why? ) then you might enjoy the game for a bit - but if you don't , stay away. Far away.

For Achievement Nerds and Kids only
2 Star Review   By member Admiral_Ackbar - Sep 14, 2007

Strengths: It's for fans of the movie Eragon.

Weakness: It's not that good.

Okay, that's not fair. It's not bad. It's not good. it's just, not very interesting and not worth playing much. I picked it up for $10 at EB and frankly, I played a little bit of it, put it down, and never played it again. There's just too much out there that's better. Really, only hardcore movie fans (kids) or those that want the achievements should get it. And for no more than fifteen bucks.

review for Eragon XBox 360
4 Star Review   By member woshihaoren - Sep 5, 2007

Strengths: 1. great fighting story 2.graphics are nice and the 2 player cooperative play is fun

I bought this Eragon around 1 month ago. Personally I give this game 4 star. I think the fighting story is great and I am enjoying it. You will never feel boring. My wife and I did not read the book before but we do like this game. The cooperative play with my wife is fun. She likes Flying the dragon. The last point is you can find cheating codes which make the game easier. Good game.

Not terrible, but not worth for than $10
3 Star Review   By member mmarcoux - Aug 17, 2007

Strengths: Multiplayer is great, new price, voice acting, fairly easy achievement points

Weakness: Single player, graphics, original price, no online play, levels somewhat repetitive

I picked up this game simply because of price and was surprised that it entertained me. I had heard so many bad things about this game that my expectations were very low... I was surprised when my son and I spent hours of fun together trying to complete the fairly challenging levels. Some were easier than others, but for the most part fairly balanced but repetitive. But for the price, we feel that we got our money's worth.

You'll with it was gone
2 Star Review   By member ragtop70 - Aug 16, 2007

Strengths: Has achievements.

Weakness: Doesn't get the feel of the movie down right.

This game can be had cheap enough, but it's still not worth it. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie but the game is severely lacking. If you watched the movie, you probably expect the dragon to be the unstoppable beast it was in the end. The problem is the flight controls are off and the dragon is not an unstoppable beast.

Better then I expected
4 Star Review   By member senile911 - Aug 14, 2007

Strengths: The graphics are not bad, easy controls

Weakness: Camera control would be nice

I have not finished the game yet but what I have played I liked so far. The animation of the characters are good and the graphics are better then I expected. I went a week ago to get this game since it was only $9.99 at a Gamestop and amazon has it for $9.99 as well, but the guy at GS told me it wasn't good. I later read some reviews and from what I read I decided to give it a try. I like it more then I thought I would, it will hold me over until BioShock and HALO ][][][ come out.

Game about a Movie
2 Star Review   By member thebob101 - May 10, 2007

Strengths: Straight forward hack and slash

Weakness: Camera angles, graphics, missions

If you liked the movie, Eragon, then you might like the video game only because it follows the movie's story line. The 360 version does not include anyting different from the Playstation 2 or Xbox port. The graphics are so so and the gameplay gets repetitive and boring. There is no online play and the game itself is very short. I wouldn't pay more than $15 for the game unless you are desperate for the MS Live achievement stuff.

Average Movie Based Game
3 Star Review   By member EdgeYouth - Apr 17, 2007

Strengths: Solid linear gameplay, fun action/adventure, good story

Weakness: Single Camera Angle, Dragon Levels

Despite the reviews elsewhere, I picked up Eragon on the XBox 360. My wife really loved the books, so I figured this would be something she could play. Honestly, the game was far better than I expected. I generally don't have too many high hopes for movie-based games, considering that the recent trend is for them to be generally unplayable or pushed out to the market before they're ready since they have to be out when the movie is (or, in the case of Superman Returns--- horrifically delayed and still not good). ERAGON has a fun style of play in the vien of the Lord of the Rings games. Decent action/hack 'n slash game play that leads you along a linear story. It's definitely not the GTA of Dragon-riding, that's for sure--- but it's not trying to be. The graphics are about average, nothing to really write home about. The game is fun and the story is better than most of the stories out there in games (mostly due to the source material, I believe). The biggest complaint seems to be the camera angle or, more importantly, the lack of choices between different angles. I didn't find it to be too problematic (well, until the dragon levels), but I can certainly see where people might complain. If you're looking for a fun way to pass the time and like the series, you'll probably enjoy the game. Just don't expect the wheel to be reinvented.
