Wii Play | w/ remote
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Mar 16, 2011

Wii Play is a simple collection of Mini-games designed to introduce you to the Wii-motes functionality. The title has a total of nine mini-games, each showcasing a slightly different use for the Wii-mote. All the titles focus around the pointing mechanism for the Wiimote as pointing is an integral part of each games play mechanic. The game includes a Wiimote and is priced at around $50, making it a reasonable alternative to buying a Wiimote separately. Mini-game summary Shooting Range is a duck hunt style mini which uses the Wii-mote as a pointer. Shoot the targets to earn points, while avoiding targets with your Miis face on it. Laser Hockey also uses the pointer to control your on screen paddle, but you can control the paddles tilt by tilting the Wii-mote. Table Tennis lets you flick the Wii-mote in order to volley the ball back and forth during your game of Ping ... PROS: (1) Comes bundled with a Wii-mote (2) Improves wiimote skills (3) Laser hockey is amazingly fun (4) Great multiplayer game ... CONS: (1) Doesnt keep stats (2) Lacking in depth (get bored easily) (3) Some games (find Mii) can be frustrating

Not fun!
1 Star Review   By member DSplayerYoshi - Jun 13, 2008

Strengths: good fishing game

Weakness: hard to use the wii remote to play several games, bad graphics

Some games you can hardly use the wii remote for example ping pong. Ping pong is very hard to use. The fishing game is fun but childish. I would not suggest this game though wii sports is a VERY good game and pretty much everyone has it. Also if your looking for a game for the wii mysims is a very good game. Hope this review will help you!

I love it
4 Star Review   By member babygurl54680 - May 13, 2008

Strengths: Challenges your mind and coordination

Weakness: too short

I love this game. I am addicted to the find MII game I can play that one for hours. My kids love to help me play and this is one of the few games that they can play and use their minds. Most other games are full of violence and foul language. Gotta Love The WII

waste of money
2 Star Review   By member revrider555 - Apr 30, 2008

Strengths: wii remote

Weakness: everything but duck hunt

In my opinion it is not worth the extra 10 dollars just buy the remote by it self and use the rest of your money to buy a burger or 2.5 gallons of gas

$10 for the game is about right.
3 Star Review   By member njkrautk - Mar 24, 2007

Strengths: Comes with a Wiimote, Tank & Shooting Gallery games

Weakness: Most of the other games

X-Play had the right take on this -- the box should say "Wii Remote with Bonus Wii Play game." If you need an extra Wiimote, you might as well pick this package up. I'm still not able to find extra remotes at local stores, though most have copies of Wii Play available. One of the main joys of the Wii platform is the multiplayer, so unless you want to pass the remote around when you're bowling with 3 of your buddies, you will want a few spare remotes. The games on the Wii Play are tech demos - plain and simple. They could have come packaged with the Wii to show people how to play, but Wii Sports is so much fun I'm glad they went the way they did at launch. The 10 minigames on the disc are all too short. The shooting gallery game, which brings back fond memories of Duck Hunt, is over after only a few rounds. Tank is the funnest game - I loved Combat way back on the Atari 2600, and this is an enjoyable update. The rest of the games do not get much play here. Cow Race isn't that great. Pool and Laser Hockey are ok. Fishing, Find Mii and Pose Mii are wastes of time. The controls for Table Tennis are not as well developed as Tennis for Wii Sports. Really, it is only an additional $10 bucks for the Wii Play disc, and you will get that much out of it at least.

A pitiful excuse to sell an Extra Overpriced Wiimote
1 Star Review   By member zoglog - Mar 22, 2007

Strengths: Comes with a Wiimote... Tank game is mildly amusing, Box is big enough to throw at people trying to laugh at you for wasting your money.

Weakness: The rest of the games are pure Trash, Only 2 Player Max, Did I mention the games are pure Trash?

So it comes with a Wiimote? What's all good so that makes the game worth around $10. Too bad the minigames that come with it aren't even worth that much. You're probably better off getting ripped off buying some game on the Virtual console. The only game remotely fun is the tank game, which lasts about 10 minutes. The package in the end is just a horrid excuse to sell a overpriced Wiimote onto unsuspecting suckers, which is what Nintendo is really good at. Check any other review site and you'll see the same result.

Good way to get a remote
3 Star Review   By member bslutsky - Mar 21, 2007

Strengths: Game and remote for $10 more than the remote alone

Weakness: The games are WEAK!!!

The ONLY reason to buy this is if you need another remote. The games are SO WEAK! Another reviewer here described the games as tech demos and I agree. I was hoping the ping pong would be fun because we really like the tennis game in Wii Sports. It's really hard to control the ping pong paddle though and that ruins the game. I gave this three stars because it is an affordable way to get another remote and there is some moderate fun in some of the games (I kind of like the pool game). If I were reviewing only the games I would give it two stars.

Play with your Wii.
3 Star Review   By member Admiral_Ackbar - Mar 19, 2007

Strengths: A Remote and ten games for just $10 more than a normal remote

Weakness: The games are kinda weak and some feel like tech demos.

Wi play comes with a game disk with ten mini games somewhat like Wii Sports and a controller. Because it comes with a controller which normally retails for $40, the game itself only adds ten more to the overall price of $50. Unfortunately, the game may be worth only five. Few of the games are good and feel mostly like tech demos. There are a couple smore entertaining ones. There's one game sorta like air hocky. There's a tank combat game which is a nice deversion. Also, it's fun to ride cows in a wierd racing game. But the other games are just one shots who's value fades after two minutes. If you need a controller, it might be worth picking up. But the games just don't add much value.

Good to add to your collection if you need another Wii remote
3 Star Review   By member kchoi10 - Mar 6, 2007

Strengths: Easy to learn, Fun for all ages

Weakness: Gets boring after an hour. Not all games are fun to play

For those who is looking to buy another controller, this is a good deal. In my opinion, it is not as fun as Wii Sports, maybe half as fun. Target shooting, hide and seek are the best out of the 9 games. The games are simple and does not require reading the manual to play.

Not that great
2 Star Review   By member wcthai - Mar 1, 2007

Strengths: Comes with a Wii Remote

Weakness: All the games except for Cow Tipping

I was first excited to get this game but after playing it, I was very disappointed with it. Nintendo should have done a better job at it. The only fun thing was Cow Tipping. If you need a controller get this but if you already have four, try to get the game really really cheap or just avoid.

Old School NES / Atari 2600 style fun
4 Star Review   By member MassHoleInNYC - Feb 27, 2007

Strengths: $10 over the price of a remote. A great nostalgia trip for those who remember Pong and Duck Hunt.

Weakness: Fishing, Ping Pong; Short Games

While I certainly would not have shelled out $50 for wii play without the remote, for the $10 above the cost of a wiimote, this game is a great novelty and really demonstrates the innovative nature of the wii and gets me excited for for the future. This arrived today at work from Amazon - and I played it on my 1 hour lunch break at home - which was ample time to try each game and go round too on the shooting. I do think overall it is fun and stands on its own. The key to the game is to have enough miis made. Finding my sister, wife, and mom in find mii was pretty funny. Watching them dance around the title screen is pretty amusing as well. Here are my quick thoughts on each game: 1. Shooting - Short - but lots of fun. Definitely repeatable. 2. Find Mii - actually pretty clever - you start finding people yielding a flashlight in a dark room after a few rounds. Definitely better if you have created some miis. 3. Ping Pong - not much fun in my opinion - a little overly simplistic 4. Air Hockey - Actually kind of fun - strong nostalgia factor a la atari pong 5. Bubble Burst - I does hurt your wrist a bit, but very different from any game I have ever played - looking forward to 2 player here 6. Billiards - Probably the most challenging - I think it will have a longer lifespan than the others 7. Cow Riding - By far the zaniest, the controls are really unique and engaging 8. Tank - Lots of Atari Nostalgia. Could definitely see myself playing this one more 9. Fishing - pretty lame - If you have Zelda: Twilight princess - you will see what fishing on the Wii should really be like!

Just OK
3 Star Review   By member xiaowei - Feb 25, 2007

Strengths: Included Wii remote

Weakness: Games are not exciting

I believe most people who bought the Wii play are in for the remote. The 9 mini games are just something to get you familiarized with the remote. Out of the 9, I like the shooting range best. It's just like the good old times. The pool game is not bad either. But over all, I feel these games should be included with the console for free. The bottom line is: the games cost about $1 each, don't expect something as good as any "real" games or even the Wii Sports.

Nothing too exciting
3 Star Review   By member mister2cool - Feb 24, 2007

Strengths: get you use to the Wiimote

Weakness: a little boring

It's not nearly as fun as Wii Sport, but good basic games to get you familiar with using your Wiimote. Oh well, at least it came with a remote that I couldn't find anywhere.

just give it a play
5 Star Review   By member leopardli - Feb 24, 2007

Strengths: This is fun game

Weakness: none so far

If you want a brand new Wii remote and a nice little set of mini games, then buy Wii Play. I can understand some of the complaints, but to be perfectly honest, I found all of the games in this collection to be at the very least charming. I won't do a play by play of each game here, but the bottom line is this: the game is fun for one player and even more fun for two. I can see putting it down for several weeks and picking it up again to enjoy it once more. Many of the games are simple and intuitive, some are a throwback to the old Atari days and I mean that as a good thing. The billiards game is quite good and probably my favorite. Heck, if you find just one game in here that really grabs you, then it was worth the ten bucks you payed for it. The added bonus is the fact that you finally can get a second Wii remote, something as scarce as the Wii itself. I am very glad to have recieved this game. You should all pick up a copy and Play, Compete, and have some good Fun. It's all about the fun now anyway.

not very exciting
3 Star Review   By member Jeff Chu - Feb 23, 2007

Strengths: good price, comes with a remote, so the game actually only costs $10

Weakness: the games are so naive...

To be frank I am kind of disappointed with wii play games. Too naive. Maybe only designed for kids. IMO they are much worse than wii sports. However, if you need to buy a remote anyway, you may want to get a wii play instead.

Wii Play- what a name it has
3 Star Review   By member hegoforhe - Feb 19, 2007

Strengths: Nice package, Wii remote

Weakness: Poor Graphics

Can not believe it all games are for young kids. Games are so basic and simple. For a while you can beat all games and feel bored if you can not beat them all. Good things are that all more games are packed in one place and they are cheap. Considering it includes a full function remote controller, after all, it is not too bad.

Wii Play
3 Star Review   By member chrishughes - Feb 18, 2007

Strengths: Value - You get the game and controller for $50. The controller alone is $40.

Weakness: Simple games. Poor graphics.

The Wii Play pack comes with the controller and several mini-games. The problem with the games is that they are very simple and basic. The pool is a basic 9 ball game while the bull riding is a short ride to the finish line.

4 Star Review   By member bluu171 - Feb 16, 2007

Strengths: very hard to find remote has bonus! of nine new games

Weakness: small games each need more content

finding the remote was very hard but when this package was released not only was the remote included but the package included 9 more wii sport type games.. most fun has been ping pong and the shooting game but the somewhat limited amount of content for each is a little bothersome.still a great value if needing an extra remote.

Wii Play ... not bad
4 Star Review   By member Scotta2700 - Feb 15, 2007

Strengths: 9 different games free wiimote fun

Weakness: games are probably only fun for about 15 min

I actually really enjoyed it. i don't believe i would be able to enjoy it for more than 20-30 min. at a time. but overall i think it is a great tech demo. and for 50 bucks with a wiimote, NOT a bad deal at all especially on how hard it is to find a Wiimote by itself.

Wii Play with bonus remote
4 Star Review   By member gmutton - Feb 15, 2007

Strengths: Includes Wiimote, which retails for $40 by itself.

Weakness: Mini games have limited re-play value.

This package is a great deal when you consider that it includes a hard to find Wiimote that retails for $40 by itself. The included games are easy to figure out and would be good for a novice to get familiar with controlling the Wiimote, but they do lack re-play value. The bottom line is that you are really buying the Wiimote and getting a bonus of 9 mini games.

Strengths: - $49.99 (includes 9 mini-games and a Wii-mote), costs only $10 than just the remote alone

Weakness: Not much depth to the game, only supports up to 2 players, the game is more like a tutorial on how to use the remote than a game.

For the value in pricing, at $49.99 for game and remote, you're basically getting a game for $10. The Mii game is pretty fun as well as the shooting range. Table tennis is a bit difficult and the control action is not as realistic compared to Wii Sports Tennis. The 9-ball pool game is weak. Tank is fun to play, especially with the Nunchuck. Content wise, this game lacks depth. It looks more like the game that Nintendo wanted to include with the Wii console. Wii Sports has more replay value and supports more players. Wish Wii Play allowed more than 2 player games. Recommend people to buy it if they're in need for the extra remote if the availability of the remote is scarce, otherwise, save the $10.

Wii Play w/ Wii Remote
4 Star Review   By member dajesta007 - Feb 15, 2007

Strengths: Great deal to get an extra remote, 9 total minigames to choose from, couple entertaining minigames, lots of fun with 2 people

Weakness: Most minigames don't have much depth, not much fun with only 1 person

Seeing as I needed to get a second Wii Remote, I figured the Wii Play would be a great buy. For only $10 more than the cost of getting only a Wii Remote, you get this game included. While Wii Play consists of 9 total minigames, most of them are pretty basic, and don't consist of much more than a Wii Remote tutorial. For the extra $10 over the cost of buying just a Wii Remote, the Wii Play is definitely worth it. While the game might not be worth the cost of most other stand-alone games ($40-50), it is well worth more than the effective $10 you end up paying for it. Some of the minigames are a lot of fun with 2 players (which I would highly recommend over playing alone). Notably, air hockey, tanks, cow racing, and shooting range can be a lot of fun with friends.

Worth it for the extra remote
5 Star Review   By member chiruanna - Feb 15, 2007

Strengths: Extra remote

Weakness: No depth in the games

Wii play is a collection of about 9 mini games and remote. The games are actually training exercises on how to use the remote. I bought it for the extra remote only but I had a lot of fun with the games, especially in two player mode. The games are relatively short and in single player mode you will get bored quickly. You can run through the games in a day. But the 2 player mode is a lot more fun, although not as much as Wii Sports. Gameplay mechanics are solid and you will never be frustrated. The price (at $50) is a bit too high for this game. That's why they included the remote, I guess. On the whole, I'd definitely recommend getting this: 1. for the extra remote 2. its a very good party game

A great game for Wii Starters
4 Star Review   By member f2000sa - Feb 15, 2007

Strengths: 1. bundled with the remote controller, which is hard to get. 2. A few very good games

Weakness: Games too short

This is a great bundle for wii starters. It is bundled with the remote controller, which is hard to get. The net cost of the game itself is only $10, which is a great value. The game is designed to familiar you with the basic skills with Wii. A few games are quite interesting. The laser tag is very good. Find MILI is quite cute. The Shooting game isn't a bad introduction to pointing and clicking, and is rather challenging. The tank game is also very cool. They called the games mini games, which is very true. some games are very short

Okay game, but you get the controller
4 Star Review   By member cooper243 - Feb 15, 2007

Strengths: A controller and multiple games.

Weakness: Some of the games are worthless. It also takes to long to replay a game.

The games on here are okay, but with the controller, you are essentially paying $10 for the game. The tank game is an updated classic called Combat. The fishing game is neat. Ping Pong is very frustrating, but fun. If you have a steering wheel, but the wiimote in it for the cow racing game. Pool is also quite fun. I imagine that these games are double their pleasure with 2 people. It's also nice that there is another game to use your Mii's with.

Great Value
4 Star Review   By member bfvbi - Feb 15, 2007

Strengths: remote included plus fun games

Weakness: most games are pretty easy/simple

The nine games are too small and short for me. I'm not sure whether it will make the difference after unlock. However, the cow-riding game in Wii play is very good.

Worth it if you need another remote or have young children
4 Star Review   By member KaseyC - Feb 15, 2007

Strengths: Simple game play, comes with an additional wii remote

Weakness: Games are a little simple and mindless, not up to wii sports standards

Wii play comes with a set of 9 games which range from inane (there's a game which is essentially 'Where's Waldo') to pretty decent (Pool), but for the most part the games are very simple and don't have long-lasting entertainment value. But given that it comes with an extra wii remote in the package (no nunchuk though) and those generally cost $40 themselves, if you need an extra remote you're basically getting a $10 games along with it, which makes this definitely worth it. Additionally, these games are also pretty good games for young kids, especially since 2 players can play against each other, which is always good with children! Bottom line: buy it if you need another remote anyway, or have young children to keep entertained! Definitely try it out first though if you don't fit into one of these categories, these games aren't sophisticated game play and won't be for everyone.
