Resident Evil 4 | Wii
4.5 Star Review  productwiki.com - May 7, 2009

Six years have passed since Raccoon City was destroyed and the government has dismantled the Umbrella Corporation from the inside-out. But the terror is not over. Now a U.S. Agent, former Raccoon Police Officer Leon Kennedy has been dispatched on a mission to Europe to save the Presidents daughter from a "crazed organization" that bares a striking behavioral resemblance to creatures found in the Arklay Mountains. Is there a connection between these foes and the horrible nightmares from the past? Discover the answer for yourself in Resident Evil 4. Wii Version Capcom has decided to re-release Resident Evil 4 for the Nintendo Wii. The Wii version borrows from both the Gamecube and the PS2 versions of the game. The game has the Gamecubes superior graphics, as well as the extra content found in the PS2 version (that means the Ada Wong missions are included). This version is meant to be the ... PROS: (1) Excellent graphics (2) Available on three systems (Wii, GNC, PS2) (3) Amazing atmosphere (4) Lengthy campaign (5) Excellent boss battles ... CONS: (1) Inability to strafe (2) Movement controls are akward

5 Star Review   By member csawyer717 - Dec 27, 2007

Strengths: fast paced,great graphics

Weakness: this game could have another level.

This is my son's favorite game. He has 9 now so that means something. He is 13. He will play this for hours. I don't play but I get a minute by minute update from him. He gets so excited. He likes the fact that he gets to play hero and save the girl.

One of the best games of all time just got better
5 Star Review   By member botticus - Oct 5, 2007

Strengths: The best game of the last generation, improved!

Weakness: None?

Resident Evil 4 will be remembered as one of the finer games ever released. Originally available on the GameCube, it was ported to the PS2 with additional modes. Now on the Wii, the best of the GameCube version (graphics) and the PS2 version (extras) have been combined into the definitive version with one additional enhancement - controls. The aiming via pointing is a fantastic improvement over the analog stick from previous generations. The graphics show their age a little, but relative to everything else on the Wii library, it remains one of the better looking games. A must-buy for any fans of the series, genre, or games in general.

Evil's New Face
5 Star Review   By member OpTiMaLhUnTeR - Sep 30, 2007

Strengths: Over-the-shoulder perspective, fun gameplay, nice graphics (for the time), and sound. Wiimote aiming.

Weakness: Graphics might turn some people off that are picky about such things. Sound is Dolby Pro Logic only, and not true surround sound.

This is the version of Resident Evil 4 to own. This version benefits from the Gamecube's better visuals while containing the Playstation 2's extra content. The Wii Edition also supports widescreen, which previously only the Playstation 2 version supported. The wiimote makes aiming weapons much easier than using analog sticks, but for those that still prefer standard controls, the Classic Controller and Gamecube Controller can be used.

Good action, but not for casual gamers
5 Star Review   By member justin_roman - Sep 29, 2007

Strengths: Intuitive and imaginative control scheme, Intense action, Lots of bonuses and extras, Bargain price

Weakness: Inane plotting, occasionally tedious gameplay

Having never played this game when it was released for Gamecube or PS2, I was very much looking forward to trying it on the Wii. After playing through the main game and most of the bonus missions, I can say its status as one of the best action games yet made is well deserved. That said, anyone who has picked up a Wii for casual gaming is likely to find RE4 tedious and frustrating. This is a game that rewards complete dedication, and anyone looking for a game to kill a few hours once a week will not be happy with it. Strangely enough, the bonus missions are much more suitable for casual gameplay, but aren't playable until you beat the main game! That said, those who do put in the hours will be rewarded with one of the best experiences that a single player action game has to offer.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (WII)
5 Star Review   By member cotebryan - Sep 24, 2007

Strengths: (1) This is THE definitive (best) version of one of the best games ever (2) Consumer-friendly re-release/port pricing

Resident Evil 4 is, in my opinion, one of the best games and most complete experiences ever made. The Wii edition is the best version of Resident Evil 4, which has previously seen release on the Gamecube, PS2 and PC. The Wii edition takes the most sophisticated and visually stunning version (Gamecube) and enhances it with true Widescreen support, re-tooled extra content from the PS2 and PC versions, and a new and more immersive control setup. Resident Evil 4 is my favorite game of all time, and playing through the Wii edition marks my 5th play through of the game (3x - Gamecube, 1x - PS2, 1x - Wii). If you have played RE4 before, you probably know how great it is but may not be conviced that the new controls make it worth revisiting. I highly recommend the Wii version as it offers a fresh way to play through one of the best games ever. This is the definitive version of one of the best games ever, which will serve as inspiration for major titles (Gears of War, for example, though GoW does not come close to RE4's greatness) for years to come.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (WII)
5 Star Review   By member chiwai - Sep 22, 2007

Strengths: Unique Wii accessible controls; Easy to pick up the controls; Good story and music;

Weakness: Single player only.

This Wii version is the best in the Resident Evil series in different consoles. Taking advantages of the unique Wii controls, it makes playing this game much more fun and the player can perform different motion-related tasks. I am totally addicted to this game, and it is highly recommended.

Impressive Adventure
4 Star Review   By member TheManuel - Sep 12, 2007

Strengths: Excellent use of Wii control Addictive adventure Weapons variety Hilarious voice acting (if you know Spanish) Graphics

Weakness: Drab environments Unidimensional nature of shotting

I never played the Gamecube version of the game but I must say that it really lends itself to the Wii controls in terms of the added precision to blow those zombies off at will. The graphics are very well made and nowhere does the game loose its appearance of reality. My only gripe here is the drabness and lack of color of it all. I understand the developers tried to convey an atmosphere of terror but maybe went a bit too far. I found the voice acting by the "Spanish" zombies hilarious being Hispanic myself although the accent is clearly from Mexican actors. The voice acting and expressions by Leon, the protagonist during the radio communications with his contact back home endow the character with a nice sense of personality when you factor in his little gestures and idiosyncrasies. While it is extremely fun to shoot at the zombies with all your different weapons, there is perhaps a tad too much shooting going on but never ceases to be fun. The shooting is complemented by puzzle solving and a sense of purpose at every step of the way. If you never played the Gamecube version, I suggest you grab this one as it will keep you coming back for more until you finish it.

much better than I expected
4 Star Review   By member clef - Sep 2, 2007

Strengths: fun gameplay, interesting story

Weakness: graphics are good but not great

I have never much liked the Resident Evil games but having heard everyone praise 4 to death and having recently gotten a Wii I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to try out the remake. It turns out I fell in love with this game. The wii controls are elegant and easy to master and the plot and scenario design are impressive for a game like this. This is one of the better games out for the Wii right now and it isn't too expensive so I highly recommend it.

Back from the dead, again....
5 Star Review   By member The_Admiral - Aug 21, 2007

Strengths: Great controls. Same great game.

Weakness: Slightly easier.

RE4 for the Wii plays greta with a Wiimote. Almost too great because it makes it easier to target and hit your opponent. But the controls are intuitive and fun. For those of you who have never played RE4, get this game for the Wii. You fight against zombified residents of a small european vilage who have kidnapped the presidents daughter. The action is visceral and fun and the game has a lot of playability.

Wii have a hit!
5 Star Review   By member jayger - Aug 6, 2007

Strengths: Great storyline, widescreen, unlockable games, fantastic controls.

Weakness: Version is starting to show its age.

Those of you who have this title for the Gamecube know how great it is for that system. The Wii version is all that and incorporates everything from the PS2 version and of course incorporates the great controls of the Wii remote and nunchuck. Those new to this gaming platform, don't hesitate to add this title to your library. Even though Resident Evil 4 is starting to show its age compared to today's titles, you won't find more immersive gameplay on the Wii for now. Also, the MSRP is very affordable, so get it because you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended for every Wii owner that meets the minimum age requirement.

Must buy for the wii!
5 Star Review   By member ncodedcode - Aug 5, 2007

Strengths: Wii remote, graphics and of course the gameplay!

Weakness: None!!!! :)

Me and my friends loved Resident Evil 4 more than we ever thought possible. When some of my friends first complained about how some reviews put this game in a bad light, I thought I was making a mistake buying this. But as I played this game, I thought the controls were just perfect, better than any game I have played! Just aim the Wii remote at the enemy and pull the trigger to shoot/kill. It's simple; I find myself utterly bemused when people complain about it not being as accurate. As far as I'm concerned, it's far easier than just using the stick to aim and will immerse you even more as your arm will start to twitch with fear as you're overrun by raging mad villagers and Regenerators. Bottom line: Get the game, you won't regret it!! Plus it's cheaper than any other game. But if you have played this title before on the game cube or the ps2, it's not that different (the story line) But still, buy it for the controls!

Great Game
5 Star Review   By member Techmanic - Jul 25, 2007

Strengths: graphics, will control, audio

Weakness: wish there are more moves like shift left/right, story line

I have played Resident Evil from 1 to 3, but never played 4 in other platform so this is the first time I play RE4. First, with wii control, it rocks. Whether it is walking, running, turning, shooting, you can get used to it pretty quick and most of the time it is enough for you to kill those zombies and bad guys quickly. However, I do hope there are shift left and right or turn left and right. I played normal level and it is not difficult as long as you know how to kill. There are audio effects when zombies and bad guys approach you so you know when to prepare. If you don't, you'll end up wasting a lot of bullets. Pay attentions to what weapons you are using. It can save you a lot of time. There are many walkthroughs if you google. But I think it is better not to read them before you finish the game at least once and see what you missed. If you like Resident Evil series, you can't miss this one.

RE4 Lives on Wii! THE Version to own!
5 Star Review   By member c0urage0us - Jul 24, 2007

Strengths: Superb controls! Lots of replayability!

Weakness: No graphic improvements

RE4 is back in the definitive version. Graphics of the Gamecube version, extras of the PS2 version, 16:9 widescreen in 480p, with the glorious Wii control scheme. It just feels natural to point and shoot, run up to a "zombie" and slash at them with your wiimote/knife!

A blast, literally
5 Star Review   By member kgivens - Jul 21, 2007

Strengths: Great action, grotesque beasts, frequent scares, cut scenes aren't excessively long, wireless controller on Wii really brings an extra dimension

We have a PS2 but never got around to playing RE4 on that platform. So we saw it fresh on the Wii. It got rave reviews from just about every videogame website on PS2, so our hopes were high for the Wii version, and we were not disappointed. The kids and I fight over who gets to play this one. Love the wireless controller for shooting, certainly a step closer to the keyboard/mouse FPS control I prefer on PC games. Not sure I would go out and buy a Wii just to play this, especially if I played it on PS2 already, but a no-brainer if you already own the Wii and like shooter/horror action titles.

5 Star Review   By member jonroach13 - Jul 18, 2007

Strengths: Wiimote features

Weakness: Same RE4

Resident Evil 4 will ALWAYS be a classic. That being said, it has already been played before... but it still rocks. The wiimote features make it pretty damn cool though! Defintely recommended!

Great copy over to Wii
4 Star Review   By member petepham - Jul 7, 2007

Strengths: Gameplay, fun to play with nunchuck and wiimote.

Weakness: Learning Curve.

Very fun game with excellent game play controls. Takes some getting used to, but once you figure it out, it is very fun. Good graphics and good exercise too! The story line is excellent and there is tons of action. You really feel immersed into the game with the wii style controls. The story line itself is very exciting. Honestly, this game lives on thrill factor. Every turn, you make you don't know what to expect. My hair definitely stands on end every time i enter a new scene/area. The RPG aspects of the game are excellent with mutiple weapons, tools, and items to use on your quest. Certainly, this game is more than just a hack and slasher. The graphics are good, but it doesn't seem like they updated them to take advantage of the wii's hardware. Basically, its the old RE4 game with wii controls and thats about it. If you don't have a gamecube version of RE4 this is definitely worth the buy!

Makes the most of Wii's mobility
5 Star Review   By member Anonymous - Jul 4, 2007

Strengths: One of the greatest video games ever made is improved by free-look Wii-mote aiming, plus the great GameCube graphics, as well as true widescreen support and all the extras from the PS2 version.

Weakness: Last-gen graphics

Don’t call it a Wii-make. That disparaging term was coined to describe hordes of low-quality video games ported to Nintendo’s unique console. Game companies, hoping to turn a quick profit by tapping the Wii’s surging popularity, have flooded the market with terrible remakes that have poor motion-sensing controls tacked on. But that’s not the case with Capcom’s “Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition” — it’s actually the ultimate version of what many deemed the 2005 game of the year. When “RE4” debuted two years ago, it wowed gamers with its revamped control scheme — previous titles in the creepy horror-survival series were infamous for handling like a tank in rush-hour traffic. The Wii version has improved the controls again. One of the few drawbacks of “RE4” on the GameCube and PlayStation 2 was the sluggish gun aiming, making it hard to execute bullet-conserving headshots. On the Wii, Capcom implemented free-look targeting with the Wii-mote: just point and shoot. It’s a stunning new level of accuracy — gamers will be reminded of using their mouse in a PC shooter — and it eases the game’s legendary difficulty. The motion controls also make interactive scenes more fun. In previous versions of “RE4,” occasional on-screen prompts required quick button-mashing to avoid being crushed by a boulder or stepped on by a giant. In the new game, players shake the Wii-mote for many tasks — reloading is literally a snap (of the wrist). It really raises the immersion factor, making the experience that much more realistic and frightening. Two years ago, the GameCube “RE4” was the most visually stunning version. Then the PlayStation 2 port followed, with extra missions, unlockables and true widescreen-TV support. The Wii version has all the best traits of both, as well as the improved controls, and retails for $20 less than most Wii games. At its core, “RE4” for the Wii is still a lengthy, atmospheric action-adventure game that will scare the bejeezus out of gamers. And now we can use our trusty Wii-mote to gun down the hordes of evil zombies. If only we could do the same to all those lame Wii-makes.

Resident Evil 4 Wii
4 Star Review   By member dlin123 - Jul 2, 2007

Strengths: Extremely entertaining game.

Weakness: Not much new in this re-release/version of this game.

Resident Evil 4 is a great game. It has all of the elements you've come to expect from this series. (It's fun to play, scary, exciting, great details, fun shooting game) Once you start playing you won't want to put it down. The game is relatively inexpensive compared to other wii games.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
5 Star Review   By member p0kgai - Jun 28, 2007

Strengths: Wiimote makes it easy to aim. Still a classic after all this time.

Weakness: Graphics somewhat dated. Movement takes a little while to adjust to.

Having never played any of the Resident Evil series, this was my introduction. Although that may shade my opinion of this game towards one of awe, it may also present a fresh perspective. Thus far, I have found the gameplay to be quite challenging. There has been a decent storyline, and I appreciate the ability to customize weapons and such. It was a bit of an adjustment for me to get used to the fact that any death-dealing must occur at a standstill, and on top of that, I had to figure it out using the Nintendo nunchuk. After a while though, it becomes fairly second nature.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (WII)
4 Star Review   By member slider169 - Jun 27, 2007

Strengths: Intuitive, elegant controls make playing RE4 a joy all over again. Nail-biting action features creepy enemies and gargantuan bosses.

Weakness: The controls soften the difficulty level a bit, still only has 480p. Picture can be better at least give us 720p

Haven't play Resident Evil series since the PS2 era. This the 2nd Resident Evil game for me. The fundamental combat is where the game shines most. Your arsenal consists of pistols, shotguns, rifles, and more, with every weapon producing credible results. Popping pitchfork-wielding villagers will cause them to drop their weapons. Or you can shoot them in the knees to make them momentarily fall to the ground. Because ammunition isn't plentiful, being able to handle a crowd of shambling psychopaths with as few shots as possible is a main priority. You've always got a knife as a last resort, but unless you want to take a chunk of damage, it's better to keep your distance.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (WII)
5 Star Review   By member clickme236 - Jun 27, 2007

Strengths: Great graphics Great action Great use of wiimote

This game is awesome!!! The only cheap thing about it was the price. This is the 1st version of RE4 that I play, and it rocks! The graphics, music, and weapons are great. I particularly enjoy the movie-like sequences that display split-second onscreen instructions to move the wiimote in different ways to avoid getting killed. I also enjoyed the fact that the low level minions all speak in Spanish, which I understand. The storyline is also very good so far and keeps your interest. The merchant target practice rooms are also enjoyable and great for improving your wiimote aim. Even at $30, this game is a steal. You won't be disappointed.

Strengths: Fun to play with Wiimote and nunchcuk, extra levels, good graphics, good storyline, inexpensive

Weakness: Very similar to the gamecube version, otherwise this game is awesome!

Very suspenseful and compelling game, it will keep you hooked for days. The controls are very good using the wiimote and nunchuck, easy to learn. The game is so much fun that you wont want to stop at all, this is a great version of a classic game. It is even one of the cheaper Wii games too! get this game.

BEST shooter on wii
5 Star Review

Strengths: wiimote. solid game play, cheaper than new wii games, and great if never played re 4 before

Weakness: slashing can screw up reloading nunchuck motion sensor should have been for slashing, its a remake so its not a new game i.e. spoiled ending, and not forgiving to new cumbers

this is my first r.e. game and even so it rocks. Any one who never played re4 and has a wii I strongly urge to get this game just don't re-buy it. heck GC games work in the wii! ps2 owners would be buying the same game just with different/better controls but the controls were never bad

Don't Pay Full Price
3 Star Review   By member danshinn - Jun 25, 2007

Strengths: New way of gameplay. More interactive. Decent graphics.

Weakness: Should have been more new features. Not many new surprises from Gamecube version.

Decent game, but I wouldn't pay full price for this. I believe the regular Gamecube and Playstation 2 version are both $20 (being that it's a player's choice game now). Not much new, other than a cool new way to play with the Wii controller. Graphics are alright. I suppose this is a game to get your teeth wet until the new upcoming RE game comes out for the Wii. I say rent RE4 for the wii or buy it on sale. Otherwise you can pass on this one. Unless you're a diehard RE fan and must have every single game including the various versions of it.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
5 Star Review   By member kcliou - Jun 24, 2007

Strengths: great price, excellent control with wii remote, very exciting

Weakness: graphics should be better than gamecube

Resident Evil 4 is a great game. It is really fun to use wii remote to shoot. Graphics are not as good as I expected. It takes a little time to get used to the control but after that you can enjoy the fun to shoot those zombies.

This is why I got a Wii
5 Star Review   By member n8rockerasu - Jun 21, 2007

Strengths: Shooting zombies, great story, shooting zombies, fantastic controls, shooting zombies, price!$!, oh, and yeah...shooting freakin zombies!

Weakness: Graphics feel dated (but not N64-like), stabbing/reloading waggle, didn't come with a handgun shell (not really their fault, I know..but I'm just sayin!)

Ok, let me preface this by saying I'm an RE fan. I own all of the RE's, and I'm not scared to say I loved "Dead Aim". RE4: Wii Edition is nothing like "Dead Aim". It's better! RE4 for the Cube was my favorite game of all time, but I always longed for the feeling of pulling a trigger and seeing precious little heads explode. This game grants me that fantastic wish. Sure, the controls take a little getting used to (especially if you have to "unlearn" from the Cube/PS2 version), but once you get them down, it's like art. Aiming and shooting is actually easier (even though the laser sight is replaced by a good ol' reticle), so to balance that out, Capcom threw more beasties as us...as if the freakin village wasn't intense enough! Anyway, before I gush anymore, this is definitely a must-own Wii game for anyone who even has a remote interest in shooters or survival horror. It's just done right.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
5 Star Review

Strengths: good graphics, sky high polygonal counts made the animations amazing.extra content from PS2 version and more. Wii control scheme. ametuer and easy modes now available...cool new box art,AI

Weakness: Graphics have not been improved over gamecubes...aside from a little better textures. its almost been overported(Ps2, PC, and now wii)its now been rated for language (the gamecube version was rated for blood and gore and intense violence)

Its a must this was the greatest survival horror game ever invented, now with new Wii controls. Though the graphics wont blow you away compared to the PS3 and XBOX 360 its still delivers. This game deverses your $30. five stars*!

Strengths: good graphics

Weakness: need more action

resident evil 4 wii edition is a good game, the graphics are pretty good. There are lots of good shooting graphics and options. I would recommend this game, especially for older teens. The price was fair.
