3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Jan 6, 2010

You are Amaterasu, a wolf deity tasked with restoring colour and life to the land of Nippon. Roam the land helping people and restoring your power. Its unique and technically impressive visual style makes you feel like youre playing a moving painting. ... PROS: (1) A unique style of graphics makes the game wonderful (2) Wii version makes drawing things much more intuitive. ... CONS: (1) Drawing things with the analog control can be frustrating. Okami (Wii)
5 Star Review   By member cotebryan - Aug 28, 2008

Strengths: (1) An absolute masterpiece of creativity (2) Epic and captivating game (3) Great art style

Weakness: (1) Sapling restoration cutscenes are prerendered movies from the PS2 version - there is a somewhat noticeable drop in quality in these infrequent cutscenes (2) Wii controls take some getting used to

Okami is absolutely beautiful in its presentation and creativity. It is inspired by the adventure style gameplay of Nintendo's Zelda series - I think specifically of Ocarina of Time, of which Okami is able to compare favorably to. The creative art direction and gameplay elements (made possible by the Celestial Brush innovation) will wow anyone who is a fan of the adventure series. In many ways, Okami is able to present the same freshness and suprise that many experienced with The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time - something that even the recent Zelda entries have not quite repeated. The added Wii brush controls make the game more intuitive and immersive. I wish I had known earlier that the "Z" button can be held down to help you draw straight lines; it is very difficult to do so without this trick. This game is a well-done port of the original PS2 game and has been enhanced with widescreen support and 480 progressive scan which makes it look better than the PS2 version but it still looks a bit fuzzy at times. This is one game that would look absolutely dazzling at a higher resolution, to be sure. It is a long and beefy adventure with plenty of mission-critical and optional interesting things to do. The game world is huge and full of personable characters. The brush powers are integrated in the most clever of ways in puzzles and combat. This is a long game that will keep the adventure fan engrossed and addictive for a long and satisfying time.

One of the best games- on any system
5 Star Review   By member vherub - Jul 18, 2008

Strengths: Unique world, fantastic graphics, great controls and story

Weakness: learning curve for drawing can be frustrating

Hold down the z button to draw a straight line! I cannot stress this enough. I don't recall if this is in the instruction manual, but it is key to enjoying the game. As for other tips, fiddling with the wiimote sensitivity helps, as does practice. There are times when drawing bloom doesn't register, but it doesn't break the game. As for Okami itself, the graphics look fantastic and are of a style that ages very well. The wiimote controls make it a more engaging experience than on the ps2 and the world is sprawling. Okami is a great character and the game easily clocks in over 40 hours without feeling repetitive or boring. The rpg elements enhance the game and there are a ton of items to collect and secrets to find. This game is highly recommended, as close to a masterpiece as gaming has yet to achieve.

The most beautiful Wii game to date
4 Star Review   By member ebaymarcaro - Jul 7, 2008

Strengths: Artistic illustration, compelling storyline. Easy learning curve (minus brush controls).

Weakness: Poor motion controls for the brush. Fishing is particularly annoying

This is a must own for an Action / RPG fan. It has a feel similar to a Zelda game with a fresh storyline. It's hard to put down once you get going. It does require many many hours to complete though and is hard to remember where you left off after not playing for a week; so not for the casual gamer.

A beautiful game that 3D Zelda fans should love
4 Star Review   By member xmasagain - Jun 22, 2008

Strengths: -Gorgeous cel-shaded graphics, humorous and interesting dialog -Innovative, new game mechanic with the brush forms -Plenty of side quests/mini games to keep the game interesting

Weakness: -Combat is clumsy at times (jiggling the wii remote to attack leads to unexpected or unresponsive attacks) -No real voices. All characters in the game murmur/mumble like Charlie Brown's teacher

If you liked the 3D Zelda games such as Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess, Okami should be right up your alley. Much like those games, you start out with a very limited set of moves but you gain additional brush strokes as you progress through the game. These brush strokes allow you to add to the landscape of the game (ex. create bridges), cut trees/rocks/enemies, and many other things that I won't list here so as to not spoil the game. The cel-shaded graphics lend themselves to the painting theme of the game. It's difficult for me to overstate how wonderful I think the appearances of the game is and how much the graphics add to an immersive experience. Okami is an excellent example of how innovative game mechanics, creative art design, and a story crafted around those two can synergize to make a better game than the ultra-realistic approach many developers are using today. If not for the occasional control difficulties, I would have given this game 5 stars.

Okami (Wii)
4 Star Review   By member codan0304 - Jun 18, 2008

Strengths: Utilizes the Wii-Remote in a new and creative way. Beautiful and lush colors with excellent music throughout

Weakness: Control seemed to lag or not respond properly on a few occassions

Originally this game came out on the PS2 and I found the port to the Wii version to be better due to the emmersion felt when using the Wii controller. My kids (13 & 10) were quickly drawn to the neat way to play and interaction with characters on the screen. I found myself exploring things more and more just to see what the paintbrush (remote) would uncover next

Okami - Wii
5 Star Review   By member biggizmo64 - May 31, 2008

Strengths: Creative, easy on the eyes, great cutscenes...

Weakness: picky brush sensor, took alittle longer than expected to adjust to controls...

Okami has a unique graphic layout that is easy on the eyes which allows for numerous hours of gameplay without getting that motion head-ache like the ones I get from playing most other games for too long. It's very easy to get sucked into the story-line, and the some of the characters become so predictable that it's fun to imagine your own storyline even when I'm not playing. The more I play this great game, the better it gets, from the new characters you meet, to the new moves you obtain and use in earlier areas of the game which keeps you from getting stuck in one spot. I recommend this game for anyone that likes a good story-line.

Okami = MUST HAVE game for the Wii
5 Star Review   By member dkt919 - May 31, 2008

Strengths: You play as Amaterasu with a little partner Issun. The graphics are just Beautiful, the colors are briliant, and the details are amazing. Game play is great with the Wii controls, especially painting.

Weakness: I wish there would have been some actual dialog, rather than the huge amounts of text dialog. Also which there were some Wii extras, rather than a direct port of the ps2 version.

Great game hands down. The graphics are just beautiful. The colors, movement, and huge environment just forces you to immerse yourself into the world of Okami. The anime-type visuals in this game are stellar. Sound/Music is surprisingly good as well. Again, my only gripe here is that there is no actual dialog, but they chose to use tons of text, and the accompanying jibberish talk. The storyline and gameplay is great as well. The storyline revolves around Amaterasu, a reincarnated Sun God. Gameplay with the Wii controls are very responsive. The use of the Wii pointer as a Celestial Brush is actually pretty cool. I feel like this is much better than the old ps2 analog stick. All in all, this is one of the MUST HAVE games if you have a Wii console. Trust me. Buy it. You will not regret it!!

Okami for the Nintendo Wii
5 Star Review   By member Catcher92 - May 20, 2008

Strengths: The game is fun and relaxing. You are drawn into a mythical adventure which keeps you interested at every turn.

Weakness: The Wii controllers don't always work they way you need them to throughout the game.

Okami is well worth the money. Although the story line is straightforward, you cannot help but become enamored with the culture the game brings. It is not for the high adventure gamer, but if you are looking to have some fun with the Wii and if you love ancient mythology, this game will keep your attention the whole way through.

Okami (Wii)
5 Star Review   By member hlcc - May 18, 2008

Strengths: -High Artistic value - High Production value - Good plot - Good game play

Weakness: -None

Okami for Wii is a remake of Okami for PS2 that was released couple years ago. The biggest improvement from the PS2 version is the use of the Wii remote as the paint brush. This game plays like the Zelda franchise, the biggest difference is the artistic representation and the fact your character is a white wolf (sun goddess) instead the beloved green-capped hero. The game is highly recommended for all Wii owners.

Strengths: The graphics are different but good, it utilizes the Wii remote and Nunchuk very well in most of the game

Weakness: some of the combat options and exploration devices are a little hard sometimes

Overall this is a very good game, and one that some people overlook, If you are a fan of Zelda, you may like this one too. The art work may take a little getting used to, but I think most people will like it once they get use to it.

Good port of a great game
4 Star Review   By member mkernan - May 13, 2008

Strengths: good port of the ps2 original, original story and art style

Weakness: graphics are good, but not great

Okami is a great, unique title originally developed for the PS2. The game is a breath of fresh air in terms of its uniqueness but went mostly unnoticed when released for the PS2. The gameplay is akin to one of the 3d Zelda games and the art style and story are quirky and interesting. The cel-shaded look of the game really looks great and was a great choice for the art style of the game. The story is fairly convoluted, but basically you play as a goddess that has taken the form of a wolf and must fight off baddies. The twist is that you can use the 'celestial paintbrush' to manipulate the environment and attack enemies. The use of the pointer functionality for 'painting' and motion controls for attacks are really the only thing thats changed since the PS2 version, aside from now being in 480p. Overall, if you're a fan of action-adventure style games, I highly recommend Okami for the Wii. If you already played the PS2 version, there's really no reason to pick up this one though.

Okami-Paint the World
4 Star Review   By member aminaha - May 7, 2008

Strengths: Lush stylistic,ink-painting graphics brought to life, use celestial brush to restore, rejuvenate the world, addictive immersing gameplay

Weakness: Paint controls don't always register, dialogue can get lengthy, occassional freezing, slowdown. Loading times.

Okami is an imaginative game immersing players in Okami's world. Fight to defeat Orochi and rejuvenate the land. Nice touches highlight the games as Okami runs, flowers bloom from her feet. A lengthy adventure with plenty to do and see. Praise system acts as am experince system allowing Okami/Ammy to level up certain stats.

Nice port
3 Star Review   By member dmjseller - May 5, 2008

Strengths: Beautiful art direction, fun game

Weakness: Graphics are blurry, even for a PS2 port, not crisp at all

For those who already played the PS2 version, there is nothing new here except the Wii motion control. But the new controls are not enough to warrant another purchase, IMO. Overall, it is a very nice game, marred only by the slightly fuzzy looking graphics. I have not played the PS2 version, but the Wii version makes me feel like my eyes are out of focus. Hard to explain. This is my only complaint for what is otherwise a very well crafted game.
