Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
4.5 Star Review  GameZone - Nov 15, 2006

While the Tony Hawk license has popped up on a lot of different platforms, there is one Tony Hawk title that is making an exclusive debut on the Wii console system, and the formula is rooted in nothing but fun. Downhill Jam is from Toys for Bob and Activision and is a purely arcade-like in set-up and overall design. You are racing downhill over varied courses. You can take shortcuts, you can perform tricks to fill the Zone Bone – which in turn will give you a power boost – and use a variety of attacks to take out the competition and finish first in the race. This is no-holds-barred racing.

Tony's Downhill Jam
5 Star Review   By member mark71mark - Nov 2, 2008

Strengths: Lots of new skateboards and levels to unlock.

Weakness: Average graphics.

This game is pretty enjoyable once you get the hang of the controls. There are plenty of different courses to skate through and multiple objectives for each course, resulting in great re-playability. There are also lots of little "secret" passageways and shortcuts throughout the game to help you beat out your opponents. Overall, a great game, well worth buying.

3 Star Review   By member bob330i - Aug 15, 2008

Strengths: sense of speed, graphics

Weakness: non-linear controls

I was interested in this title mainly because of the Wiimote controls vs. a standard analog stick as seen on other systems. Control is a bit inconsistent due to the non-linear tilt sensitivity of the Wiimote. However, once you get through a couple courses, you’ll get the feel where the tilt “catches on” and how it affects your turns. Overall, the graphics and especially the backgrounds look great and the sense of speed makes for a frantic pace vs. the traditional, somewhat “flat environment” skateboard games.

A downhill jam indeed
2 Star Review   By member bunty7 - Apr 29, 2008

Strengths: New courses, Nice sound

Weakness: Wii controls can be frustrating

This is mainly a racing game & though the idea might sound fun to a few, it is actually not. There are some nice characters & locations & initially the Wii controls may be fun but it gets more & more frustrating & unpredictable. At one point you will just be pressing buttons & waving the remote without really knowing what exactly you are doing There is not much replay value as the unlockables are hardly worth it. It is not difficult to finish the game without much skill but for some reason it does not give you a feeling of satisfaction when you are done with it

Awesome game
4 Star Review   By member eddiel0727 - Mar 11, 2008

Strengths: Very realistic, very enjoyable

Weakness: The graphics aren't as good as other game systems

The characters are funny, the maps are cool with lots of different paths and shortcuts, the music is pretty sweet, and the gameplay is downright addictive. Awesome game though the levels could have been a bit more difficult. But overall, very exciting, very enjoyable

Downhill Jam
4 Star Review   By member eau697 - Nov 15, 2007

Strengths: New ways to play using Wiimote

Weakness: Controls take time to master

Downhill Jam is a fun game that allows you to use the innovative Wiimote to play. The controls are intuitive but does take time to get used to. It is by far the best way to play this type of game. Graphics is not as good as the HD generation consoles but still good if you're using a component connection. Music is great and very suitable for the game. In all, it's a great game to pick up.

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (Wii)
4 Star Review   By member shrike424242 - Aug 30, 2007

Strengths: Different Tony Hawk gameplay, different control scheme with the Wiimote

Weakness: Controls take some getting used to

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam is a different take on the Tony Hawk games. There's no open-ended environment to pull tricks in, Downhill Jam is a contest to finish first going downhill in a race. There's still plenty of tricks to pull off, and environmental items to interact with, though the speed of the race is the important thing. The controls are far different than other Tony Hawk titles, and they take some getting used to, being controlled by the Wiimote. Race fans and Tony Hawk fans should give this a look for something different.

Downhill Jam (Wii)
4 Star Review   By member keelie - Jul 14, 2007

Strengths: Fun control, music

Weakness: Graphics

Downhill Jam for Nintendo Wii is a fun game taking good use of the innovative Wii Remote. This is probably one of the best Tony Hawk's game titles to date. Music is catchy. The only drawback is that it has the look of the last-gen console games, thanks to the non-HD graphics system in the Wii. Besides that, no complains here.

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
3 Star Review   By member Charlemagne7 - Jul 5, 2007

Strengths: Good racing game with lots of Tony Hawk skating elements.

Weakness: Controls take some time to get used to.

Downhill Jam is the first Tony Hawk game that deviates from the standard formula used over the years. Instead of opening a area for the skater to perform tricks in, here the skater is racing to be first, grinding rails for massive points, passing through time hoops in order to finish, or just plain knocking down people. Players progress through the game by completing a certain goal depending on the type of the mode. For example, if the player gains a silver medal on a trick course, they'll gain enough points to unlock the next set of events. That's pretty much how the whole game is setup. The controls took a little bit to get used to since the user holds the Wiimote on its side and tilts it left and right to control their skater. By doing tricks they build up a boost meter that can either be triggered by the B button or by quickly lifting the Wiimote up. While it turned off a friend of mine I thought the controls were really fun. I was hoping to use mp3s on my SD card since the game used a cell phone type interface to choose which music tracks I wanted to play or not. Sadly that isn't the case. I don't know most of the artists used in the game but I'm sure if you liked what was used in previous games, you wouldn't have a problem here. While not a great game, Tony Hawk's Downhill jam is good. I'd definitely recommend it to those who are fans of the Tony Hawk series.

New TH Game
4 Star Review   By member Pookymeister - Jun 28, 2007

Strengths: Innovative use of Wii controller - new spin on TH series

Weakness: Its no SSX

This game is a new spin on the Tony Hawk series. Instead of having an open ended sandbox, you basically are racing downhill the whole time. Sounds repetitive ( thought sometimes it is ) but it really is a decent game. Being on the Wii allows use of the Wiimote in a fun way to control your skater. Pulling off tricks is more fun than a standard controller would be. However, sometimes it is hard to pull off tricks b/c of it. Overall, this is a decent addition to my Wii library.

TH Downhill Jam
4 Star Review   By member bulldog93 - May 12, 2007

Strengths: Fun controls.

Weakness: Not a typical TH game

It's a fun Nintendo Wii game. Controls are cool once you get used to them. This is not your typical Tony Hawk game. I prefer previous TH games, but this is a cool game for the Wii. If you can get it for the right price, then jump all over it.

Some Serious Speed
4 Star Review   By member musicmasterkmk - Mar 27, 2007

Strengths: Fun and the Controls are awsome

Weakness: If you don't get used to the controler you will not like this game

This is one of the BEST Tony Hawk games I have ever played. One reason is it gets challenging when you get to about 30% in the game. One of the best parts I think is doing cool tricks like 3 or 4 backflips in a row.

Tony Hawk Downhil Jam (WII)
4 Star Review

Strengths: great game, fun to ply with friends or by yourself. Hold the wiimote sideways and turn it side ways to steer. Awesome!

Weakness: hard to pull off sharp turns

I strongly recommend it for anyone new or used to Tony Hawk! Hold the two button to go and release it to jump. By flicking the remote, you can flip, and you can do other tricks by following the tutorial.
