Killzone: Liberation
4 Star Review  GameZone - Oct 5, 2006

It’s not really a sequel … not really. The original Killzone was on the PlayStation 2 console and was an entry into the first-person shooter market. Killzone: Liberation is on the PlayStation Portable and is a third-person shooter seen from the isometric perspective. The game takes place a couple of months after the events in the original game and centers on a single character in a battle against the Helghast forces. The elusive general, Metrac, has begun a campaign of terror and it is up to the player to counter with a series of missions that advance along a linear storyline.

Killzone: Liberation
4 Star Review   By member keelie - Sep 5, 2008

Strengths: Great shooter with amazing graphics.

Weakness: Weak AI

Killzone: Liberation is a great third person shooter for the PSP. It has a variety of interesting missions that takes both action and strategy to achieve the goals. Controls are a little weak as the aiming takes a lot of efforts to get it right. You can earn points for completing missions and use them for upgrades and such, which could be helpful in some of the later missions. Overall, Killzone: Liberation is a treat for the PSP. It has some short comings but is still amazing on the PSP.

A Must Have Action Game for PSP
5 Star Review   By member rpnguyen - Jun 15, 2008

Strengths: Excellent Graphics, Easy to pick up and play, Quick and easy multiplayer, Extra downloadable content

Weakness: AI can be weak, Aiming mechanics may err

If you had a bad experience with Killzone on the PS2, forget that. Killzone: Liberation is a top-down 3rd person shooter that is a combination of action and strategy, with some of the best graphics seen on PSP. Your character can do many things at once such as take cover, throw a grenade, and open a ammo chest at the same time. Action is fluid and isn't all mindless since you can't just run and gun and expect to win all the time. Load times are fast, too. There are situations where you control a comrade, but they aren't too incompetent, and the game is very context sensitive so you can tell him where to hide throw a very intuitive menu. The aiming of the guns is "sticky" meaning they will lock on to an enemy if you are close enough, but if you wish to aim manually you can. Sometimes the sticky aiming is off, e.g. you target one enemy instead of another. However, this is only a minor issue and most of the time you won't find yourself in a situation where this is a problem. Overall, a must have game for the PSP.

Reasonably good 3rd person shooter
3 Star Review   By member hellmutt - Apr 22, 2008

Strengths: Fun extras, unlockable boosts

Weakness: Can be extremely frustrating

This game is just 'ok'. It has a lot of promise, but playing this on regular difficulty was surprisingly difficult. I don't mind a challenge, but when it takes me several hours and dozens of tries to even get close to taking out a boss, there is something wrong. Sometimes, it's which weapon you choose that makes all the difference; other times, you can try every weapon and just find it amazingly painful. You'll probably find you want to work hard to get all the extras the first time around, because it's not particularly worthwhile to go back and play the levels again. However, the bonus unlockable stages are pretty cool, and a nice change of pace from the regular game. Normally I'd give it 4 stars, but this one gets 3 because of the playability problems.

Fun game for the PSP that keeps you entertained.
4 Star Review   By member dinker84001 - Jan 22, 2008

Strengths: Overhead Shooter with good graphics.

Weakness: Controls can be a bit awkward.

I have a pretty short attention span and this game keep me interested longer than most. I liked KillZone for the PS2 so I figured this would be worth a chance on the PSP. The overhead shooter is a nice change and works well for the PSP. The game provides enough challenges and the story is decent enough to be entertaining. Overall the game is not as good as the original KillZone for the PS2 but is a good adaptation for the PSP.

Killzone: Liberation
4 Star Review   By member bob330i - Jan 2, 2008

Strengths: arcade style gameplay, graphics, fairly deep/varied missions

Weakness: aiming mechanic

A good solid title action packed title, somewhat similar to today’s war based titles. Your character engages in various missions to defeat the Helghast enemies. You’ll be driving tanks, assaulting buildings, escorting diplomats and such. Lots of different missions to keep the game from getting stale. A nice feature is that for every mission you complete, you’ll get points where you can upgrade abilities, weapons and such. This will help you get through some missions where you’ll need a specific upgrade to get through the mission or at least make it easier to get through. Graphics and audio are also very good. I’d recommend this title if you can find one on clearance. This title should be on most clearance racks by now.

Killzone Liberation
5 Star Review   By member infini2001 - Dec 15, 2007

Strengths: the best 3rd person shooting for PSP so far (Dec. 2007)

Weakness: well... control issue coming from the lack of the second analog button

Before talking about PSP games, first of all, we have to understand that it is not PS3 nor Xbox360. It means that it is limited in several gameplay areas. If we accept this situation, however, we can understand that this game is the best PSP game so far. Its graphics, storyline, and controls are very good compared to other PSP games. Of course there are so many better games for PS3 or Xbox360. For PSP, however, it is a decent game. Almost all the reviewers gave this game the top scores...

This ain't your PS2's Killzone.
5 Star Review   By member Admiral_Ackbar - Jun 14, 2007

Strengths: Loks great. Great change to isometric view. Good multi.

Weakness: Few

Liberation makes a great third person shooter on the PSP. Not only does it look as good as it's PS2 precursor, it had a fantastic Multiplayer/Co-op more to go along with a satisfying single player campaign. The move from FPS to third person fits perfectly on the portable screen. Highly recommended.

Killzone: Liberation Review - Rated 6 out of 10
3 Star Review   By member aaronmills - Mar 6, 2007

Strengths: Good graphics. Top-down perspective works well.

Weakness: Aiming is difficult making the game itself very difficult.

I picked this game up last fall because the PSP hadn't seen many interesting games for a while. The commercials for the game peaked my interest so I decided to give it a try. . The intro cut-scene gets you right into the game and for the most part it's fun to play. Unfortunately, a tough targeting system makes the game very difficult at times. If this was more of a stealth game it wouldn't be as annoying, but due to the fact that it's a shooter, it's kind of a big deal. Despite that, checkpoints seem to come around enough so even if you keep dying you're able to continue at a decent pace. . Overall, Killzone: Liberation is a good game, but not as good as I would have hoped. If I were to give it a rating out of 10, I'd have to give it a 6. You can find it online for around $30 and for that price, it might be worth a look if you want a 3rd-person shooter. However, since this game came out, there have been plenty of games (i.e.: Metal Gear and Ratchet & Clank) that you'd be better-off spending your money on. .

Fun game
4 Star Review   By member blackcapten - Feb 28, 2007

Strengths: third person, strong audio/sound effects

Weakness: no real online play

As an occasional gamer, this is a fun game to pick up once in a while to play. I like the third person interface as I'm not a fan of first person games these days. I enjoy a challenge, and since I'm not a regular or expert gamer, it is a tough game and a definite challenge for me. I am still trying to get the hang of a PSP to begin with (PSP newbie), so this game will let me dive right in and give me some experience just with a PSP. There is no online play which is one negative, but there are ad-hoc multiplayer modes (which I have not used). I read before purchasing that it is a short game, which I don't mind if I end up getting my money's worth enjoying the play. So far, so good... unless I grow really frustrated as the game goes on and I throw my PSP through the window because I can't advance in the game!
