Dynasty Warriors PSP
3.5 Star Review  GameZone - Mar 26, 2005

I'll admit it, I love hack-and-slash titles. Button smashing hysteria and a double almond grande latte makes for a good morning and on those days where rage just overwhelms you, it's best to fulfill those slaughterhouse desires on large quads from Ancient China than to senselessly beat up your fellow coworkers. That's why Koei has released its 10th edition to the Dynasty Warriors series, befittingly titled ... Dynasty Warriors. As a fan, I am happy to see a version of the game I can take on the road with me. However, it seems clear that only big fans of the series will welcome this to their newly formed PSP game collection and will be dismissed by others as the more expensive solution to their hack-and-slash needs (Though it has yet to be seen how Untold Legends will fair here on GameZone).

Nice little game
4 Star Review   By member jenbowie - Jul 26, 2008

Strengths: Good for those comfortable with the previous Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors games

Weakness: Graphics are a bit of a letdown

If you're a fan of previous Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors games, I think this one will appeal to you. On the PSP, players effectively battle against thousands of warriors, using some strategy in smaller campaigns, as well as simple hack/slash. The graphics aren't as nice as I would have liked, but overall they aren't bad. I'd say pick this one up if it isn't too expensive. :)

Dynasty Warriors
5 Star Review   By member docmav - Nov 22, 2007

Strengths: Great port of the PS2 Dynasty Warrior games

Weakness: Hack and Slash button mashing

I have always enjoyed the button mashing Dynasty Warrior games. If you own a PSP and liked the Dynasty Warriors series, you have to pick this one up. Dynasty Warriors 2 and this one have very little difference, you'll be fine if you buy either one. Graphics and gameplay are very good in this game. Load times could be a little better.

Hack/Slash for the PSP
2 Star Review   By member monsoonman - Sep 20, 2007

Strengths: +classic hack/slash portable +made especially for PSP +some strategy +what you expect/familiar

Weakness: -plain backgrounds/battlefields -repetition -low replay ability -bad slowdown -story (same as previous installments)

Dynasty Warriors for the PSP plays exactly how you would expect it would. Those that have played the Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors games will know the deal. Players are basically a one man army going up against hundreds and hundreds of warriors at a time. As expected graphics aren’t nearly as sharp as they are on the consoles, but they still look good. The game does try to add strategy and does take advantage of the portable nature of the PSP. Dynasty Warriors for the consoles had players going through one hour nonstop campaigns. For the PSP version those campaigns are broken down into smaller sections lasting only a couple minutes. After completing a section players are able to save. Bodyguards also serve a larger purpose in this game. In Dynasty Warriors 4 bodyguards did not have much customization. Now bodyguards can give special powers to the player, such as increasing your life bar. When you get right down to the core, this is still basically a hack/slash game. After a few hours into the game, it will feel repetitive. Like in the PS2, DW will suffer some slowdown when you have too many warriors on the screen at a time. Also like DW4, I found the environments to be painfully plain. If you are looking a brainless portable hack/slash I suggest Dynasty Warriors for the PSP.

DYNASTY WARRIORS
2 Star Review

Strengths: alot of officers and warriors to unlock. Musuo attacks would be awesome if it wasnt for slowdowns

Weakness: framerate/slowdowns, worst camera in any game, too easy, graphics

when i got this game i was very disapointed because i expected at least some strategy and no slow downs. the framerate and camera sucks. enemies are just way too easy and the allies do nothing except powerups. Also the graphics could be inproved, at least put better detail in the enviroment because i feel like i am fighting in a grassy plain. Despite all the weaknesses, i did find that there was a good selection of officers to collect and people to unlock( that was the only reason i kept on playing.) the sound sucks, but the soundTRACK does'nt, ironic.

fun game but could be better
3 Star Review   By member allen9917 - Jan 31, 2006

Strengths: Graphics, gameplay, a lot of action

Weakness: occasional slowdown, no rewards after completing a level

Dynasty warriros for PSP is basically like all the other games in the series, you run around, you kill, you win... there are totally 42 charachters to choose, you can choose where to go in a battle, officers give you special power, charachters' weapons evolve when the player kills enough enemies and the combo hits increase as they level up. But there's no multiplayer mode. game occasional slowdown.

Great!
4 Star Review   By member cuipingshan - Jan 9, 2006

Strengths: There is a darn load of action. You get to choose from about 20 characters in the beginning which does not often happen in other games. The user manual tells you some cool moves. You get to move with the analog stick.

Weakness: The loading times are VERY LONG! The gameplay slows down when there are too many enymies on the battle screen. There are only a few battle to beat which really killed me. Your character only levels up a bit after you beat a level. And the battle screen is

Overall I think this is a pretty good game. I wouldn't reccomend it if you are a gamer who want action, action, action. This will only give you a little bit of action if you're crazy about it. If you're a gamer who plays a bit of everything (that's me) you'll like this more than other gamers. When I was buying it I thought it would be just like buy I played on the PS2 exept for the level and other details. But when I started playing it, it wasn't as good as it thought it was but it was good. Don't let the playing on the PS2 fool you because there are many severe differences that might not impress you. I only wished that just a few of the weaknesses would be gone. This game might have even gotten like 5 stars if it had just a little bit less vital weaknesses or maybe even 1 gone. I beat the game on the second day I got it because there were only a few levels to beat in the game. In the beginning it was hard to make you think that the game's super-hard but it gets super-easy at the end that a non-gamer could've beaten it in like 10 minutes when the harder ones could even take days. If KOEI made another Dynasty Warrios game for the PSP I would get it, definitely. I don't know why but almost every game for PSP's loading times takes so long. If you're impatient, you would be a bit angry with this game about the loading times. In the beginning the loading would only be a bit annoying (like the first 1 or 2 times) but later it get REALLY annoying. Why can't the loading times be as short as NINTENDO's? By the time this game finishes loading, you would be loading like 15 NINTENDO games. I suggest you get this game and try it out and if you don't like it, sell it. It's as simple as that!

Dynasty Warriors

Strengths: -Lots of action -Great graphics -Plays similar to the PS2 versions

Weakness: -Too much loading -PSP controls just aren't suited for action games

Dynasty Warriors arrives in portable form relatively intact. The action, story, and atmosphere is all here in good form. Although the series has grown a bit stale, it still provides some mindless thrills. Overall a pretty good hack-and-slash. Hope Koei's next effort is as good.

Dynasty Warriors on the Go
2 Star Review   By member Admiral_Ackbar - Nov 28, 2005

Strengths: Plays well. Quick and easy.

Weakness: Can get dull.

DFynasty Warriors is a nice little action game for the PSP. For when you want to take a few minutes and hack and slash through hordes of enemies. But that's it. It's a little mindless otherwise. But that cna be okay for a portable game. I just wish the background graphics were a little more detailed. If you like Dynasty Warriors in general you'll probably like this. But I would pick it up on the cheap. If only there were better games for the PSP.

Dynasty Warriors for PSP
4 Star Review   By member tungluh - Nov 27, 2005

Strengths: Dynasty Warriors game on PSP

Weakness: Nothing New

This is a very nice game that was cloned from PS2 Dynasty Warriors. Nothing is really new with the same gameplay and players. It has reasonable good graphics and music. The only drawback is that it is overpriced. Sony should not sell a game for $50 (like a new PS2 game) while selling a PSP for $250.

This game was actually REALLY good. It's my favorite for the PSP. The graphics are spectacular, and the gameplay is REALLY fun. The only thing is some of the animation is a tiny bit choppy. But it's totally worth buying. 5 stars for this one!

2 Star Review   By member Spoon_Si - Jul 24, 2005

Strengths: Simple Gameply! Lots of enemy on screen! Game Feels like in a real war!

Weakness: Really long load times! Gameply get boring really quick! Dumb AI! Graphic is step down from PS2 & XBOX version!

Dynasty warriors for PSP is a port from the PS2 Version! And pretty much offering nothing new from this port beside you being able to play this game on your handy PSP! A titled I wishes was skipped upon! Pros: Decent graphics as most ( A huge step down from the PS2 version), Fun mindless hack & slash gameply! Okay music soundtrack! Cons: Load time! Load Time! it loads after every battle! Gameply doesn't use up whole wide screen! which makes the game looks very crammed! AI is stupid! Character isn't very detailed. Overall: 2 OUTTA 5 STARS (SKIP this Game, it's that bad)

Like the console versions, but worse
2 Star Review   By member wampa8jedi - Jul 11, 2005

Strengths: Dynasty Warriors on a handheld

Weakness: Sad graphics, slowdown, no 16x9 support

If you just HAVE to play Dynasty Warriors on the road, this is the game for you... it has the traditional DW feel, with lots of guys on the screen, lots of button mashing, and lots of characters with names you could never pronounce. The big problem is that it's on a handheld. This means killer load times, a very short draw distance (like twenty feet before the fog hits), and lots of slow down, as the game pushes the PSP to the max. It also doesn't even support widescreen, ugh... A solid purchase if you're looking for a button mashing diversion, but otherwise, just play Dynasty Warriors 5 at home.

Better then DW1, not as Good as DW5....
3 Star Review   By member Spartan117 - Jul 8, 2005

Strengths: Great portability. Can be saved on the go.

Weakness: Easy to lose horridly. Some battles waaay too long.

Ok...so how do I start off a review of the game I love soo much for most other platforms. Well, to be honest, it was lackluster compared to how highly I rated this game in the beginning. I then opted a better idea, just play the fame without expectations. I do say though, after playing this game for numerous days, I do not enjoy it as much, so the replayability, while great if your ocd about completing the game, can be a little low. The good part about it though is the fighting. they kept the fighting in to be as good as 3 and 5, which I rate as the best Dynasty Warriors games of all time.

4 Star Review   By member sononkyo - Jun 17, 2005

Strengths: Addictive beat-em-up Storyline

Weakness: not tuned for PSP-- lag/slowdown doesn't use full 16:9 screen

This game is great for those who want a 30 min. romp just killing everything in sight. Without discriminating against gamers who have no interest in the story except just to kill people, this game does it in spades. However, one thing that prevents me from enjoying this game lies in two techical aspects. 1. Slowdown. Sometimes, when the amount of enemies gets to a certain number, and you bust out a Mousou special attack, you are going to watch a slide show. It is that bad. Obviously, it hasn't been optimized on the PSP hardware. 2. 16:9 screen not utilized. As a developer cop-out, you can see the original 4:3 aspect of the game with a map tacked on to fill the 16:9 screen. If there is one genre that requires full usage of a widescreen ratio, it is third person action games. These two are certainly not showstoppers but they hinder gameplay alot. If you don't mind those two, then by all means, grab it. As for now, Untold Legends would probably be a better alternative. That game has slowdown, but not to the degree of Dynasty Warriors. Also, 16:9 screen is fully used in that third person action game. I would definitely wait for the inevitable next version of Dynasty Warriors on PSP. Pass on this one to own.

Strengths: +graphics, +gameplay

I liked this game. Similar to its predecessors, this game was nothing less and yet nothing more than what the series usually offers. I like the DW series, so I personally enjoyed. Some people may not however enjoy this game.
