Monster Hunter Freedom
4 Star Review  GameZone - Jun 5, 2006

Released in Japan as Monster Hunter G, Capcom’s action-adventure game was not quite an RPG and not quite a normal hunting game of the Cabela kind. It’s a fantasy game set in a world where monsters that resemble dinosaurs as well as mythical dragons fill the landscape and where humans struggle for survival while seeking fame and fortune as hunters. Monster Hunter Freedom is a port of Monster Hunter and Monster Hunter G for Sony’s handheld. Grab your blowgun; it’s time to go hunting. You start the game by creating your avatar, be it male or female, and set them loose in the world of Minegarde where the lush land is fertile and filled with a variety of species both lizard-like and insect-like.

Very enjoyable, if you have the patience
4 Star Review   By member feigs88 - May 7, 2008

Strengths: Nearly endless gameplay, good graphics, very immersive

Weakness: Slow starting, will test the patience of some

Monster Hunter Freedom is an amazing game. If you have the patience to get through the first few menial tasks (gathering, fishing, etc.), the character development and open ended gameplay will quickly pull you in. The graphics are some of the best for PSP, and make for some goosebump-inducing moments when encountering some of the larger monsters. Highly recommended for RPG and Action fans alike.

Armory on the disk
5 Star Review   By member Nickfl13 - Apr 13, 2008

Strengths: customosation,weapons,quests,music

Weakness: No infasturcture, long load times, impossible monsters

I accidentaly got this game but i'm pleasanly surprised. Weapons andf armor are a joy to make and buy but it takes forever to find the right materials. The lack addition of non- Ad-hoc multiplayer would have been nice but it is a small complaint to such a beatiful game. The weapons and armor looks make lord of the ring's look like toys and the creatures and battles give hollywood a run for thei money.

Monster Hunter Freedom
4 Star Review   By member keelie - Feb 11, 2008

Strengths: Online gameplay, Graphics

Weakness: Camera

Monster Hunter Freedom is an action adventure RPG that is based on Monster Hunter for the Playstation 2 console. It adds wireless multi-player mode but removes the online multi-player mode. This game is very enjoyable, especially when co-operating with friends wirelessly. Graphics is simply breath taking. It has lots of cut scenes are they are pure eye candy. Its success has already led to the release of Monster Hunter Freedom 2. Monster Hunter Freedom is worthy of being in your collection. It is a must if you are a Monster Hunter fan. Go and connect with your friends and hunt some monsters!

Monster Hunter Freedom
4 Star Review   By member eau697 - Dec 17, 2007

Strengths: gameplay and graphics

Weakness: camera and control

Monster Hungter Freedom is a port of the Playstation 2 version of the same game with added features. Newly added is the Wi-Fi multi-player game mode but gone is the online game mode. Graphics is excellent. It's probably one of the best looking games on the PSP. Unfortunately, camera angles and controls are rather weak. They are awkward at times. Still, this game is still worth playing with a good adventure and story.

Online customizable hunting game
5 Star Review   By member lobitoh - Nov 10, 2007

Strengths: Online quests, monster wacking

Weakness: Very hard to pass alone, camera angles

This game comes from the port released on the PS2, it has new additional features and the connectivity is easier to set up. This game is awesome when played online in a guild for hunting down monsters. Great game for people who like to customize their characters and doing quests. This game is a must have for those Capcom fans who like to play online and do quest. Its a fun game you’ll enjoy it the most.

WOW
3 Star Review

Strengths: great graphics, brilliant gameplay, leveling works

Weakness: early monsters too hard at some points

This game outstands other games of its same callibre. The brilliant gameplay, graphics and compatibility make it one of the best games on psp. The gameplay experience works well with the atmosphere and the whole game fits perfectly into its genre. As the hunters battle their way through challenging yet enjoyable fights and quests the game expands and the possibilities increase. This is surely one of the best games on the psp console to date.

Freeeedommmmmmmm!
5 Star Review   By member fever - May 21, 2007

Strengths: Graphics, wireless multiplayer

Weakness: Camera controls, and no combat lock-on

This is one of the nicest looking games on the PSP, it is a port of the PS2 version with the significant wireless multi player added and the on line multi player removed. I found this game to be very enjoyable, easy to play and lots of fun when playing wirelessly with friends, Playing the PS2 game on-line was not as fun or as easy to set-up. Tow frustrating elemtents in the game was the difficult camera controls and on lock-on during combat. This game is one of the best on the PSP with a good adventure story with solid graphics for anyone.

Go Monster Hunting On The Go Now
4 Star Review   By member FOnewearl - Apr 25, 2007

Strengths: Lots of Quests

Weakness: Long Load Times, No Online Play

Monster Hunter Freedom is an action adventure RPG much like it's counterpart on the Playstation 2 or like Phantasy Star Online. The story in the game isn't detailed at all as the game is mostly all about powering up your character with strong equipment and killing monsters. Alot of the quests in the game will have you going out into the wilderness with your objective being to find and kill a certain monster and while it may sound simple with the strategy of learning the monster's patterns it is really the center pieace of the game and is alot of fun even though it sounds rather simple in theory. The one thing about Monster Hunter Freedom is while even the single player game will have you busy for hours on end alot of the quests can take awhile to complete so if your on a quest that takes you an hour or more to finish it may not be very friendly for a portable game in the sense of being able to play for a short amount of time like if your on a short bus commute. I would recommend Monster Hunter Freedom to fans of the Playstation 2 version of Monster Hunter Freedom and gamers that enjoyed any of the Phantasy Star Online games. I would also suggest renting it to fans of RPGs & action adventure games as they would probably like it also if collecting and powering up characters is acceptable for them without a complex story.

Hunting for Fedex tasks
3 Star Review   By member sononkyo - Apr 12, 2007

Strengths: Everything is modifiable; infinite buffs; graphics

Weakness: no sense of direction; unbalanced - some dungeons require multiplayer, so where is infrastructure/or game sharing??

Open ended sandbox games invite a player into a non-linear world that cast them into variable roles without the confinement of a story. The negative aspect is that the player can get sidetracked with the mundane things as the open ended nature of the game precludes any substantial purpose for a story. In Monster Hunter Freedom, that sense of open ended awe has a strange mix with a world devoid of purpose, which bogs down the player with minutia. The presentation of the game upon first glance will attract any player, regardless of his background in this type of genre games. Vivid graphics, cute balanced with sharp edges all denote a Japanese art style anime that gracefully supplements the realistic backdrops and foreign monsters. Games like these require one thing--user modifications which it has a plethora of. From armor to the pinky ring, various permutations of buffs can be created. It is that allure, treasure, that will have many players scouring every last byte of the UMD to find the rare drops. Great job there by Capcom, embellishing the depth established by Diablo. Treasure hunting can get boring after awhile because a game is suppose to have an end. If you like the literal translation of open ended games, then this game is a perfect match for you. There is no ENDING. Everything you do, besides playing treasure hunter and slayer of monsters, will have you wondering why your characters inhabit this world. Maybe the simplicity of just killing is tha allure here, but there has to be some kind of end game mechanic, right? Difficulty is very uneven in this game. There are dungeons which you cannot defeat by yourself. Considering the chances of finding a fellow PSP hunter WITH this UMD are extremely rare, the lack of infrastructure support hurts this game. Simple online play would mitiagte the lack of a story for solo play. First editions of any presentations establish a great framework without polish. Monster Hunter Freedom is the epitome of that creed, bursting with potential but disjointed at the seams with the minor flaws that tragically take away from the overall idea of the game.

3 Star Review   By member ALPHAOMEGACODE - Mar 4, 2007

Strengths: GRAPHICS / CONTROLS

Weakness: GAMEPLAY / ONLINE CAPABILITY

THE CUT SCENES IN THIS GAME TRULY LOOK AMAZING. SOMETIMES YOU FORGET THAT YOU ARE PLAYING ON A PORTABLE SYSTEM. THE CONTROLS ARE VERY FLUID AND THE CAMERA WORKS KIND OF WELL IN THIS GAME FOR A HANDHELD VERSION. THEY INCLUDE A NICE OPTION SYSTEM TO INDIVIDUALIZE YOUR CHARACTER WHICH GIVES YOU A NICE FEEL OF SELF EMERSION, THAT IS IF YOU MOLD YOUR CHARACTER TO BE LIKE YOURSELF. BOTTOM LINE THOUGH IS THAT YOU ARE JUST PRETTY MUCH HUNTING MONSTERS, AS THE TITLE PRETTY MUCH EXPLAINS. NOT THE GREATEST STORYLINE WITH THIS GAME, BUT IS IT IS SOMEWHAT FUN AND A NICE CHANGE FOR THE PSP.
