Nice game
3 Star Review   By member dmjseller - Aug 2, 2008

Strengths: Amazing graphics, great presentation of the cars

Weakness: Not enough tracks, physics model (collisions), online multiplayer

Great game, *if* you can get it for less than $40 - because at that price it is not a good value. Biggest complaint I have is that it should have more tracks - how about the Nurburgring, or some F1 tracks! The game has been advertised as a preview, as a demo, for the full game. But for the price, there is not enough here, and what is there, is lacking in functionality. And now the full game is rumored to be delayed till 2010! Hope the developers give some free updates, because it would be disappointing to have to pay for stuff that I think should have been in the game in the first place, even if it is supposed to be a demo.

Great Racing Game
5 Star Review   By member TIONGKENG - Jul 24, 2008

Strengths: Great graphic, Option between playing cars or motocycles.

Weakness: You have to purchase you own at beggining of the game under 2 player mode.

Amazing graphics, Lots of cars to choose. Sound quality is very good. If you want real time simulation, you MUST get this and I think playing online games is fantastic, especailly with large screen HD TV. You can't go wrong with this game. One thing as a bonus, it comes with motocycles.

$40 Demo
3 Star Review   By member shin31 - Jul 22, 2008

Strengths: Amazing graphics, numbers of car models, works great with force feedback wheels.

Weakness: It is a $40 demo, limited number of stages, can't play with PSN friends online, unable to tune the cars until you cleared all classes.

First of all, the game is not completed. If you want a full game, wait until late 2009. Yet, even though it is a demo, the game shows much more content than some of the other racing games in the PS3. Plus, the graphic is stunning! I feel like driving a real car with a driving force pro. The force feedback is very accurate. But still there are some drawbacks. There is still no car damage. The AI is kinda stupid still. The thing that bothered me most was the fact that you cannot choice who you want to play with online, it's all random. I don't think this game worth the $40 unless you are a GT hardcore fan. But if you can get it cheap, it certainly worth a try.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
5 Star Review   By member qnguyenca - Jun 29, 2008

Strengths: Realism!

Weakness: Limited number of vehicles.

This is an awesome limited-vehicle version of the forthcoming full-version of Gran Turismo 5, and it certainly does not disappoint. When played with a force-feedback wheel, the driving experience doesn't get any more realistic than this! Amazingly realistic and as fun as ever!

Gran Turismo lost its roots
3 Star Review   By member Bargains-on-Everything - Jun 26, 2008

Strengths: Graphics, physics engine, this game is more like a driving simulator

Weakness: Can not modify the car, all of the cars are stock

I am really disappointed that you can't modify the cars, I miss the old GT when you could buy used cars and modify their performance. This game reminds me of MS Flight Simulator... cool, but weak.

Pretty good experience before the REAL one!
4 Star Review   By member chibi_conan - Jun 12, 2008

Strengths: Gran Turismo in HD and 2009 Nissan GT R

Weakness: Still no damage effect.

First of all, some people say this game is an expensive demo but the fact is, it's not! You get way more cars and options than the real demo available on PSN. And notice the title of the game. They have put "Prologue" for a reason, not just to show off. Anyways, overall a decent GT you can kill time with until GT5 comes out next year. My only complain is that there is still no damage effect on cars and not much of eye catching online functions. What's up with that?! Now, they finally have this fine piece of hardware;PlayStation 3, I don't know why they have neglected this feature. I just pray that they will include this on GT5.

GT5 prologue
3 Star Review   By member EricM80 - Jun 3, 2008

Strengths: Lots of cars, amazing graphics

Weakness: Not many circuits

This game sure is not lacking cars; however so far (completed the 'A' series of events), it seems to not have many circuits, only half a dozen. I hope more become accessible as I progress, but I have doubts it will be as many as I'd like. For those circuits that are there, though, there is little to complain about. The graphics are great (1080 resolution!). I haven't seen if they can be driven at night or in bad weather, if not that would definitely be a bad point compared to my experiences with need for speed high stakes on PC a few years ago. I like the concept that the game is updated through the online connection as the devs make more progress. Also love the rankings concept where you see the best online time for a circuit/car and it tells you your overall ranking for that combination. Overall I'm not disappointed with my first console game ever, I've always liked racing games and this one highlights the progress they've made with graphics over the years; there seems to be room for improvement on the features and circuits though.

Decent Demo
4 Star Review   By member dtsai24 - May 23, 2008

Strengths: Graphics, Gameplay

Weakness: Price

This game is really only a demo for the real game. It is very good for its graphics and gameplay but very expensive for such a small game. Worth it for fans maybe or you can get it cheaper.

Oversize demo of the real game
4 Star Review   By member dlee00 - May 6, 2008

Strengths: Graphics, sound, 1080p 60fps, online play

Weakness: Price, frustrating penalty system, cannot host your own game during online play

With the real game still a year away, Sony decides to release this oversize demo for the fans of the series to keep them busy for the time being, for $40. The price is defenitely a bit on the high side. Considering it's only a beefy demo, it should be no more than $25. Price aside, the game feature great graphics overall with smooth framerates, good sound effects and music, upto 16 players online racing, 6 tracks and about 70 cars. Overall, not a bad package. The bad side of the game is the penalty system where you get time penalization when you go off tracks or bump AIs. It's not bad when you are in the game's A,B,C class races. It's when you reach the S class races where the system becomes very frustrating. Some of the S class races require you to go from 16th place all the way to at least 3rd place to clear. Basically, you have no time to make any mistake. The AIs will bump you from time to time and cause you to lose valuable seconds. Couple bumps and you can forget about winning the race. I don't mind the penalization system for a more challenging experience but it should be issued to the AIs too. The AIs can bump all they want and go off tracks with no penalization. That's is just wrong and makes the game frustrating. I certainly hope this can be corrected in the final game, along with the ability to host your own game and invite friends during online play. Without these two major flaws, this oversize demo is quite decent.

The Appetite Before the Main Meal
4 Star Review   By member normietrice - May 2, 2008

Strengths: Car Graphics, Sound, Music, Online Play

Weakness: Load times, Clunky presentation elements, Details on tracks

GT5P is a solid racing title. The car graphics and car sounds are excellent. You can tell that a lot of work was spent modeling the cars to make them as realistically looking and sounding as possible. The music tracks are also great. The biggest addition that comes to this GT is online play. The online interface is pretty strange. You get taken into a loading screen where you wait to be matched into a game or you become a host to a game. The times it took me to join a game varied, sometimes under 30 seconds, sometimes over a minute. Once the game starts, I haven't experienced too many problems. It is generally smooth and without lag. You also earn money for online races, even if you place poorly. One of the negatives of the game is the load times. With a 5 GB install on the HD, I expected load times to be short to non-existent. While they are not grueling, it still can feel slow. Another thing I dislike is some of the presentation choices. One thing is the way it auto saves your progress. The tracks for the most part look great but some have far less detail and background than others. Overall, this is a great, fun game and although it retails for $40 yet probably only has 10% of what GT5 has, it is still a good value because of online play and the ability to carry over your data to GT5.
