Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

Action/Adventure Game - PlayStation 3 - MPN: 15728
Product Details
Description
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is an explosive open-world action game set in a massive, highly reactive, war-torn world. When a power-hungry tyrant messes with Venezuela's oil supply he sparks an invasion that turns the country into a warzone. But for you, international crisis is all upside: You are a mercenary, and you profit from chaos. Mercenaries 2 features a slew of potential clients, all willing to pay you to do their dirty work. These are world powers with deep pockets, deep grudges, and enough arms and ammo to start World War III. This is your kind of environment.

Explosive action that never quite lives up to its potential
3 Star Review   By member mkernan - Nov 4, 2008

Strengths: Blowing stuff up rarely gets old, co-op play is fun

Weakness: Overall feels buggy, bad AI enemies

I never played the first Mercenaries game. I actually bought it for $10 at one point, but I eventually bought a 360, then a PS3, and never revisited the original Mercs for the original Xbox. So, going into Mercs 2, I didn't know what to expect. From what I understood, the basic premise was that it was somewhat GTA-like, in that it is a sandbox game, but where you blow up lots of stuff. Sounds pretty cool, right? It's hard to pinpoint exactly what the problem is, but the game never really 'clicked' with me. A few problems come to mind: namely the overall buddy and just generally odd "feel" of the game. Damage to the player and vehicles seem inconsistent and the AI of the enemies is pretty laughable. Having said that, the one redeeming quality of this game is definitely the drop-in, drop-out cooperative online play. If you have a buddy to run around wreaking havoc with, its exponentially more fun than playing alone. I really can't recommend buying this game at full price, but one its drops down to $30 or less, its a great game to play co-op with a friend on.

Save Your Money, Not Worth Anything Over $30
1 Star Review   By member danshinn - Oct 8, 2008

Strengths: No Strengths.

Weakness: Everything. Game sucks in every way.

The only redeeming thing about this game is doing this review for a $5 cashback rebate bonus. From the start of the game, there's an install process for the system. No progress bar or indicator of how long the install will take. The opening boat scene had glitches and the character movement had bad collision detection with the boat. Movement of the character is stiff, stupid AI, lame acting, poor graphics. It takes 10 bullets to shoot up those red explosive drum barrels. Acting and dialouge is the worst I've seen from EA. Save your money. Simply put.

Mercenaries 2
3 Star Review   By member gh0zt - Sep 14, 2008

Strengths: fun blowing stuff up

Weakness: crappy ai, lots of bugs

I was really excited to play this game. Unfortunately, the game is loaded with bugs/glitches. I find it hard to believe that a game this day and age could release with so many problems. I’ve gotten stuck in bushes a few too many times playing this game. After all that is said and done, I still had a good time blowing stuff up and killing enemies with various guns and melee attacks. Good for the mindless fun, but not worth a retail price tag. Wait for this to hit the bargain bin before purchasing.
