Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Review
3 Star Review   By member angent88 - Aug 29, 2008

Strengths: Good songs, multiplayer, wireless guitar, stickers, and online game play,

Weakness: Kinda gets boring after a month or two and characters are a little strange.

Guitar Hero 3 is an interesting genre of game. It's difference from other games makes it unique. It's one of my favorite games, but it gets boring after about a couple weeks. Someone who would like this game would be someone who likes music, especially rock. I would rate this game 75% approval out of 100%. I hope my review was helpful.

Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock (PS3)
4 Star Review   By member warhawk9 - Mar 21, 2008

Strengths: Good song selection and fun to play.

Weakness: Guitars not as good as RB.

GH3 is a fun game with a good variety of song selections for anyone. The song selection is a plus vs RB rock only songs. I had to buy two games for two player action. I know that will change over time but I have paid more $$$ and have a extra game as a coaster. GH3 is harder on easy then RB. Having to beat bosses and songs on harder settings makes me want to put the game down after no progress for hours. With RB I can still gain a little cash for beating out the same songs and even select the songs I will play for a gig. Some time the gig is random 2 or 3 songs but you can keep trying to get three songs you can handle on a specific hardness. The feeble half fret buttons irk me. My huge Lurch type hands have problems with the buttons unlike RB full fret size buttions. I am sure more guitars will be out in the future but you are stuck with the factory one for the time being.

Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock Bundle
5 Star Review   By member gemandeye - Feb 15, 2008

Strengths: This game has great graphics, diverse song selections, and bonus guitar git bag and key chain with this bundle pack.

Weakness: Guitar was too small.

Overall Guitar Hero III is an awesome all around fun game for one or multiple players. Even just watching someone else play will entertain for hours. Song selection was fantastic. The music ranged from Punk to power pop and rock to metal. While I myself feel the guitar controller is too small and would prefer a choice of a larger more realistic sized guitar, I understand the small size for those younger players as well as cost and logistics.

Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock (PS3)
5 Star Review   By member exstudent - Feb 3, 2008

Strengths: FUN, FUN, FUN for all you air guitar people and older gamers who grew up with all these songs.

Weakness: None. Cheaper would always be better. More songs would be nice; guess that will be for Guitar Hero 4.

For those of us who are air guitar fans or guitar playing impaired, our toy has arrived. This game is a lot of fun for ALL ages! The young kids who didn't grow up with these classics now know and like these songs too. For the older kids at heart who grew up with these songs, we can take a walk down memory lane, striving for 100% accuracy. Awesome game and its popularity will be self evident if you just play it once at the stores or a friends house.

keep on rockin
5 Star Review   By member ToddManG - Jan 30, 2008

Strengths: lots of songs by the original artist, classic GH gameplay, wireless controller, online vs and co-op

Weakness: can be insanely difficult, new boss battles are kinda lame

another year, another plastic guitar to add to my collection. I'm going to cut to the chase here...if you've played any other guitar hero game then you've played this one too. Not that it's a bad thing. In terms of gameplay not much has changed. There's a new battle mode where players can use powerups to screw with their opponent, but in my opinion standard head-to-head and coop are still the way to go with multiplayer. The song selection is tight and takes you up through the ranks pretty well. That is until you get to the last set where the difficulty ramps up awfully high. I've beaten the other GH games on expert and this one presents similar challenges on Hard at times **slayer** cough, cough. Long story short: GH fans won't be disappointed, and newbies will still have fun (on easy/medium anyway). Online mode is also fun for those without 2 guitars, oh and by the way - the rock band guitar doesn't work with GH III, so you will need to buy a second guitar for local multiplayer.

Guitar Hero 3
5 Star Review   By member jessmason - Jan 25, 2008

Strengths: Great soundtrack, easy to understand, lots of customization of characters & guitars

Weakness: None yet!

I bought this game for my husband for Christmas for the PS3. I have probably played it just as much, if not more, than he has. It is a fantastic game with a wonderful soundtrack which makes it incredibly addicting. I find myself singing the songs in my head long after I'm done playing. The game is quite challenging; the songs get very difficult by the time they're attempted on 'hard'. It's nice to have a game that isn't too easy, but is still highly playable. There are several characters to play and each has different outfits and styles available for customization. There are also tons of guitars and finishes to choose from with the 'money' you earn from gigs. It's fun to create your band and watch them go from a backyard bash to an international arena. There are also bonus songs to purchase to mix up what you play, though the bonus songs are not counted in your 'career'. The controller is very sturdy. We've put many hours on it and haven't had any troubles and haven't had to replace any batteries. The controller is wireless which is wonderful considering the type of game this is. This game bundle was definitely worth the price as it has provided our household with hours of entertainment!

A lot of fun, but not as much fun as rockband
5 Star Review   By member HerculesRockerfeller - Jan 24, 2008

Strengths: Still fun, costs less than Rock Band. GH3 "Guitar" is easy to use.

Weakness: No backwards compatibility on PS3 w/PS2 versions. Guitar not compatible w/RB.

Guitar Hero 3 for the PS3 is just as fun as one would expect. I never played any of the previous GH releases, but I have played Rock Band for the PS3, and GH3 isn't as much fun because of lack of local multiplayer (no instruments other than guitar, and no stand-alone GH3 guitars are currently available for PS3). GH3 is pretty cartoony so it is difficult to take it seriously and get involved. The guitar is easy to use and the songs are more challenging (even on the easy level). I was disappointed with the lack of compatibility in two places: 1) GH3 and RB guitars do not interoperate 2) When playing GH 1 or GH2 on the 80GB, it does not recognize the GH3 controller. You might want to keep this in mind if you were hoping to get some backward compatibility/interoperability with this purchase.

Exactly What You Expect
4 Star Review   By member dtsai24 - Jan 21, 2008

Strengths: Fun

Weakness: Hard

This version is just like the previous versions with some small additions that are barely noticeable. The obvious big difference are the songs which are very good and fun to play. Worth it for fans of the game.

Guitar Hero 3 for PS3 Bundle
5 Star Review   By member defbrizzo - Dec 20, 2007

Strengths: Awsome song list. Great guitar action.

Weakness: No second guitar available yet. I had to buy two bundles to get an extra guitar.

This game is a barrel of fun. My whole family plays it all the time. The wireless guitar is a real treat for intense jamming. If you like 80s early 90s rock you will love the included song list. You get to battle Slash, need I say more? This is one of the few high priced games for the ps3 that I feel was worth every penny. I hope to get some additional tracks for extended play. Thanks Redoctane and Activision you have a winner!

Very nice game
5 Star Review   By member cenglerp - Dec 7, 2007

Strengths: easy to learn, fun for the entire family

This is indeed a very nice game for the entire family (especially if you are tired of shooting games...). Both my sons (12 and 17 years old), as well as my wife and I have enjoyed this game, although the skill level for each of us is completely different. It seems hard to play at first, but it is very easy to learn. Bear in mind that this is not like playing a real guitar, it is just a video game, but a very good one!

Everyone Can Become a Rockstar
5 Star Review   By member rykwon97 - Nov 21, 2007

Strengths: Interactive, Great Music, Wireless

Weakness: Wireless USB Dongle, Controller not Backward Compatible with GH1, GH2

Building upon the success of GH1 and GH2, the new soundtrack has great music to jam out to. The addition of a new wireless controller makes play much easier and without limits. Game play is very smooth as usual, and has new additions of online battle modes and in-game celebrity battles. Controller was very responsive. I never experienced note drops that others have reported on Xbox360 and Wii axes. I was a bit disappointed that the new controllers are not backward compatible with the older GH titles. There are plans to offer additional downloadable content to expand the song list and keep game play fresh. I would strongly recommend to anyone who has enjoyed earlier titles or ready to become a rockstar.
