Description
Inspired by the courage demonstrated and devastation sustained in the warfare of the 20th century, Killzone makes its debut as a PS2 exclusive, bringing with it an assortment of features. The game offers four playable characters and 27 different weapons. Players will engage the enemy in more than 11 detailed environments, designed to showcase the grueling settings of a war-ridden planet. There are several gameplay modes to chose from, including single-player and multiplayer , as well as online play for up to 12 players.Killzone immerses players in a future of space colonization that has resulted in several planets becoming inhabited by humans. While most of the colonies united to form the ISA, a ruthless, militaristic faction known as the Helghast has secretly separated itself, and is preparing to wage all-out war. On a nearby colony known as Vecta, the city's orbital defense mysteriously goes offline, allowing the Helghast to land and deploy their troops. As a member of an elite ISA military force, the player's objective is to escort a high-ranking official to an evacuation point while avoiding an intelligent computer-controlled enemy, able to calculate threats, maintain military direction, and execute self-preservation tactics. ~ Damian Francis, All Game Guide

4 Star Review  GameZone - Nov 15, 2004

Hype, hype and more hype. I can barely remember the last time the gaming industry had so much hype in one year. The year 2004 could well go down as the year that more hype was generated about the games being released than any other year. It’s amazing with the games being released in 2004 that any game can live up to the hype that surrounds it. While the hype for Killzone might not have been as loud as it was a year ago, there was still a large amount of buzz surrounding the game. Killzone was supposed to be the PS2’s answer to Halo and push the PS2 to its limits in terms of graphics and gameplay.

3 Star Review  GameSpy - Nov 2, 2004

Expectation can be a funny animal. If it works, people will get whipped up into a frenzy, clamoring to experience or buy the new trip or toy or product, showing it off to their friends and family victoriously. However, we all know that expectation can be a double-edged sword, especially when early promises go unfulfilled. Just look at some of the movies that the public was hyped into seeing since the rise of the blockbuster. Critics catch the hype bug, too, even though we're supposed to be immune to that sort thing, and some might even be unfairly harsh to something they had high expectations for.

4 Star Review  about.com - Nov 2, 2004

Killzone has been billed as THE Halo killer. If it had a couple of more months of development time, and the power of the PS3, it may have been. But, as it stands, Killzone is a solid cinematic first-person-shooter that may be just a little too much game for the system. Killzone is a blast, but it may make your PS2 beg for mercy.

4 Star Review  IGN.com - Oct 29, 2004

Hype did not influence this review. It did not grab this reviewer by the throat and force out an absurdly low or obscenely high score. Hype is not the master of our judgment. If anything, the mysterious entity of extremely positive expectation that floats around the Internet contaminating children might have influenced a reader of this review . There's even a chance you have bought into the hype and are now glancing over this justification of a 7.5 rating and wondering why Killzone is not the greatest thing ever -- thinking that 7.5 is somehow synonymous with awful. Hype will do its evil to the best of us.

5 Star Review   By member NxSPeaKxT - Oct 5, 2005

Strengths: gameplay, realism, story, multiplayer ability, broadband enabled, etc.

Weakness: 2 player only with out broadband

i dont really play the story mode much but on hard difficulty it reminds me of actually being at war in a small squad. This game has a very strong multiplayer, i wouldnt describe it as a halo killer; because it is in a class of its own. if you like easy bames with light realism and easy to read ai strategies killzone is not for you, but if you would like to be in the closest war simulator there is, do guerilla a favor and buy their g-d da-n game!

Strengths: cutscence, online, and plot

Weakness: nothing

When Killzone came out people said it was a Halo killer, Its not a Halo killer, its a Halo 2 killer. After Halo 2 came out it suck it was nothing like Halo or Killzone. Killzone has better plot, weapons, and etc. As the story goes on you can change different people and you are 3 males and a female. Lucky I bought it!

2 Star Review   By member fgauswob - Dec 29, 2004

Strengths: Cutscenes look great.

Weakness: No or very very few save points.

Lucky me this is a rental ( for me ). Do not buy unless you like get fustrated. You will paly the same sequence4 over and over again, not because you like it but there are no o.k. very few save points. On the rental i got to the 8th mission. If you shower your enemys with gredades don't be surprised if you get shot and need to start over again. Rent DO NOT BUY.
