Shrek 2: The Game
4 Star Review  GameZone - May 10, 2004

From the start of the game, Shrek 2 surprised me. It begins with one of the most unique character setups I have ever seen. Then, only a few minutes later, I find myself bursting with laughter at the game's hilarious dialogue. If those voice-overs didn't come direct from the film, they found excellent Mike Myers, Eddie Murphey and Cameron Diaz impersonators. And to top it off, the graphics are bright, colorful, and nicely match the film's fairytale atmosphere. Shrek 2 is a grand collection of gameplay elements, both old and new. You might be surprised to learn that the battles have more in common with Midway's Gauntlet series than they do with the Goomba-jumping antics of Mario.

Shrek 2 (ps2)
3 Star Review  GameSpy - May 29, 2004

Summer is upon us and that means a slew of summer movies where the action is hot and the plotline is predictably thin. Recently, it's also meant more tie-ins than ever, from the predictable fast food trinkets and backpacks to the newer addition of video games. With the recent mediocre entries , it's always a little dicey when new games timed with Hollywood's release schedule show up for review. Scarier still, none of the major voice talent from the movie is in the game, and the developer, Luxoflux, is fresh off the success of True Crime: Streets of L.A. An odd concoction, but by sticking to the basics and polishing when necessary, the developers have gone from a bloody, mature rated game to a kid-friendly movie tie-in without too many hiccups.

3.5 Star Review  IGN.com - May 5, 2004

Another Shrek game -- the mere idea of it may already be sending shivers down your spine. It's actually amazing that someone is willing to make a Shrek game after the catastrophe that was Shrek Extra Large . However, Activision, with the help of the True Crime: Streets of L.A. team , has decided to take on this rather large and green challenge. Has Shrek regained his video game honor? Read on.

One of the Best Video Game based on a Movie
4 Star Review   By member jngx80 - Jan 27, 2007

Strengths: Up to 4 players multiplayer, overall a very fun experience and perfect for family gaming.

Weakness: None.

I have to admit that Shrek 2 is a pretty awesome game. Everything is very well thought out - from the level designs to each character's role and special moves. The levels are designed well for 4 simultaneous players and every character has a specific role. The difficulty is spot on and perfect for the intended audience (4th graders and up should do fine by themselves, if they're younger expect them to ask for help). The game also gives hints on the next objectives so parents who don't normally game should be able to follow it easily. The graphics and sound are great. There's a lot of variety and detail in the environments. I've played a lot of games and Shrek 2 is one of the best video games based on a movie. I found it more fun than the Lord of the Rings games and definitely much better than the X-Men Legend games.

A fun title for all ages
4 Star Review   By member Warner1281 - Aug 15, 2005

Strengths: Multiplayer semi-RPG, cool characters

Weakness: graphics

This game is kind of fun. For kids looking to get into RPG type games, this is a great starter. For adults looking for a fun game they can play along with their kids, this is an awesome title. Overall the game is pretty simple. You have a party of 4 characters and you venture through the different chapters solving puzzles and battling bad guys. The more people you have playing (ie-you, your husband/wife, your kid, etc.) the less the computer has to do for you and the more fun everyone has at the same time. The game itself is a little better than mediocre, (3-3.5 outta 5), but with the added advantage of being able to play through with other people it defiantely bumps it up another notch.

Strengths: My grandsons love to play this game.

Weakness: None so far.

I purchased this game for my grandsons and they love it. They had been wanting it for a while and I finally found it for a little lower price since they haven't dropped the price on them any. They have really enjoyed it and still haven't conquered all the chapters. Recommend!!
