Operation: Vietnam
3 Star Review  GameZone - Sep 10, 2007

Welcome to Vietnam. Known as “Sarge” by your squad mates, you were leading the team successfully through various operations around the Nung River when things went horribly wrong. A Viet Cong rocket struck your helicopter and down you went. Fortunately, you woke up in one piece and had somehow avoided capture, but your squad was nowhere to be found. Do you have what it takes to find them and get back home? That is the basic premise of Operation: Vietnam, a mission-based action game by Majesco that plays like a mix of the classic games Commando and Cannon Fodder. Missions consist of traversing the landscape from a top-down perspective searching for various items and gunning down almost anything that moves.

OK game for kids, but some of them may get bored quickly
3 Star Review   By member rxy111psu - Apr 1, 2008

Strengths: Good sound and a lot of actions. Very straight forward, with simple controls.

Weakness: No multi-player option, hard to control without analog stick like psp.

Operation Vietnam is a budget price game, but qualifies as a decent FPS. You are playing as American soldiers, but it's not historically accurate. It's a game for teenagers, not for grown-ups. It has good graphic with some very nice sound effects. All controls are simple to follow except moving diagonally, which would be easy if on PSP because of the analog stick. However, DS doesn't have an analog stick, so you'll have to hold down 2 buttons. That's probably the only part kids will get frustrated with.

Tedious but cheap
2 Star Review   By member henwy - Mar 18, 2008

Strengths: Inexpensive

Weakness: Slow and Tedious

If you're looking for a few hours to kill and you simply can't stand twiddling your thumbs any longer, this might not be a bad alternative. The main selling point of this game is that it's cheap. I think I ended up picking it up for around $10, and mostly, you get what you pay for. It's a top-down shooter where you move a squad of US infantry around collecting dog tags, powerups, and shooting the viet cong whenever you run across them. The game is pretty slow moving and in the early stages, it involves slogging through stages where you line up an enemy from half a screen away with your sniper and pop them. I kept praying for a speedwalking or run button just to move it along.
