Good but not the best
3 Star Review   By member IPOD4LIFE - Apr 28, 2007

Guilty Gear Dust Strikers Guilty Gear Dust Strikers is a good and solid arcade style fighter. You can choose from 20 characters including one you can customize yourself. The game is pretty fun even excluding its 7 awesome minigames. There are at least 11 different attacks per character (including combo moves). All you have to do to get started is choose a character. The down side of this is that they pick your opponent and course. The backgrounds on the courses are very detailed. There are different levels to climb up and down on when you’re battling which doesn’t really relate to all of the other Guilty gear games on the other systems which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. When you play mini games and get a high score you get new moves for your Robo-Ky (the player you can customize). You can choose the moves you unlocked for your Robo-Ky and equip them to him. Then you can battle with him. The story mode isn’t much different than arcade mode besides the fact that you get a story line. The graphics are pretty good looking. They have very detailed backgrounds and the characters look nice. The sound effects can get really repetitive but the music’s not horrible. The minigames are really fun. The game includes: billiards, a balancing game, a yo-yo polishing game, a dolphin show game, capture the notes, hit down, and sword master. That’s about all there is too it! A solid Arcade Fighter that’ll keep you coming back for more. 7.0 Presentation There’s a short video with some music in the beginning and there are a lot of menu options. 8.0 Graphics Nice backgrounds. The characters look good. 5.5 Sound Sound effects get repetitive and annoying. The music’s not that great either. This is where the game lacks. 8.0 Gameplay An arcade style fighter that plays really fun. 8.5 Lasting Appeal With all of the mini games and multiplayer you’ll be playing this one for months. 7.4 OVERALL (out of 10)

Guilty Gear Dust Strikers
3 Star Review   By member mojave - Oct 31, 2006

Strengths: Classic franchise on the DS

Weakness: Not implemented well

Let's face it, while the DS is a great system with a ton of excellent titles, it has not been a great platform for fighting games. In some sense maybe the touch screen is not the best interface for these games, or maybe it is simply just that no one has worked out exactly how to use it. Guilty Gear Dust Strikers is a mediocre implementation of the Guilty Gear franchise. The animations and character moves are simplified and the overall experience just isn't what you would expect.

Familiar 2D Fighting Series Unfamiliar Gameplay
3 Star Review   By member FOnewearl - Sep 6, 2006

Strengths: Music & Sound Effects, Create Your Own Customizable Character

Weakness: Animation, Battle Royal Type Gameplay

Guilty Gear Dust Strikers is a Battle Royal type fighting game in which 4 players can fight at once and while it's a Guilty Gear game which is a series that has been very successful with 2D 1 on 1 fight unfortunately the conversion to 4 player fighting doesn't seem to work out as well as surely the designers hoped it would. Instead of using the second screen on the DS for something extra and touch screen related it's basically used as a second screen in which the fighting takes place making the area in which you can fight twice as big. They added in some mini games to try and spice up the gameplay with something different between battles but the mini games while decent don't really add much. You can also have a customizable robo character that you can add to the list of fighters in which you can assign moves and combos. I would only recommend Guilty Gear Dust Strikers to someone in desperate need of a multiplayer fighting game on the go.

Guilty Gear Dust Strikers for the Nintendo DS
3 Star Review   By member Biglesworth23 - Sep 3, 2006

Strengths: + Guilty Gear on a handheld! + Impressive graphics

Weakness: - Not a typical Guilty Gear game... feels more like Super Smash Bros. - Tough controls

Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers has arrived on the Nintendo DS. It's one of the few fighters available for the system, so if you are a fighter fan, you don't have much else choice. Thankfully, the game is mostly up to par. It's not a typical Guilty Gear game (which can be compared to other 2D fighters in the same vein, like Street Fighter), but it's more along the lines of Super Smash Bros. This will be good for some, but not too good for the Guilty Gear hardcore. This game is most certainly not for them. The graphics are impressive, especially for the Nintendo DS (which isn't exactly known for impressive graphics). One of the major problems I had with this title was the controls. My hands cramped up after only a half hour of use or so, but perhaps this isn't the game's fault: The Nintendo DS isn't exactly setup great for fighting games. Overall, I'm giving this game 3 out of 5 stars. It's enjoyable, fast-paced (SSB-lite), and one of the few fighters available on the system. But if you are a hardcore fighting game fan, you'll want to steer clear and perhaps wander over into PSP land, where the fighters are much more abundant and well-designed.

Guilty Controls
3 Star Review   By member fever - Aug 11, 2006

Strengths: Good sound and graphics

Weakness: Sloppy controls

I was really looking forward to this title since I have played several of the other Guilty Gear games. Great features of the Guilty Gear license is good graphics and a simple fighting controls. This game doe not provide the same experience, but is it still an OK basic fighting game. The controls are sluggish and the DS touch pad is only used in non fighting mini-games. For Guilty gear fans, at least much of the sound survived. For new fans, this will provide only a small taste of a true Guilty Gear game.

Guilty Gear
2 Star Review   By member Denbo32 - Aug 7, 2006

Strengths: 2D Fighting game, 20 Char.

Weakness: Doesn't make great use of the duel screen or the touch screen in the main game

There are a ton of mini games that adds minor value to the game. The main game is pretty basic nothing special. Not really worth the money for this game.

Guilty Gear Dust Strikers
3 Star Review   By member Ma12kez - Aug 4, 2006

Strengths: Fun 4 player multiplayer, with 20 characters to choose from.

Weakness: Controls are difficult to get used to, and make fights frustrating.

The fact that battles are up to 4 players makes it almost feels like a Super Smash Bros. clone or something like that, but it's fun nonetheless. The annoying thing about this game is that sometimes you're trying to attack someone, but you're facing the wrong way. It's not that bad, but it does get to be a pain after a while. The mini-games are pointless, and just feel like they are tacked on. What's missing are unlockables, for instance, characters or something to keep you playing. The only thing worth playing is the multiplayer, in the long run. However, if you're a fan of Guilty Gear, maybe you should give this a try.

Guilty Gear DS
2 Star Review   By member t260 - Jul 30, 2006

Strengths: good multi player

Weakness: poor transition to DS

As a multiplayer game, Guilty Gear isn't that bad. If you can get even 1 person to play against it can be a solid game. However as a single player it is very week. It plays like Guilty Gear mix with super smash bro that didn't turn out right. A shame because the other Guilty Gear games are great.

A fighting game for the DS
3 Star Review   By member shinro - Jul 21, 2006

Strengths: One of the few fighting games available for the DS, unique 4 player concept

Weakness: Not a lot of strategy needed to win

I have never played a Guilty Gear game before, so I am not familiar with the characters. Since there aren't a lot of fighting games for the DS, I decided to give this one a try. There doesn't seem to be a lot of strategy involved here, as you can just keep on pressing buttons to win. The added minigames are not particularly interesting, but at least it's added value.

Guilt Gears Dust Strikers
3 Star Review   By member silentassassin47 - Jun 29, 2006

Strengths: Multiplayer gameplay

Weakness: D-pad is too small on the DS

Guilt Gears Dust Strikers is a chaotic 4 man deathmatch for the DS--very similiar to Smash Bros. The fighting engine is surprising deep for a fighting game on DS and easy to grasp. The major flaw with this game is the controls. The D-pad on the DS is too small to be to move comfortably--but after a while you'll get use to it. if you are looking for Smash Bros for your DS this is the closest thing. If you're a hardcore fan of fighting games and own a DS, this is a must buy for you.

Not what was expected from Guilty Gear
2 Star Review   By member averagegamer10 - Jun 27, 2006

Strengths: Robo Ky mode offers an interesting customization aspect to the game. The pace of the fights can be frantic and fun.

Weakness: A weak story mode and weak minigames diminish the fun of the game. The controls a have been overly simplified, decreasing the depth of the fights. The graphics are not up to the usual Guilty Gear leve

Guilty Gear Dust Strikers is a portable version of the acclaimed Guilty Gear fighting series. I was expecting Dust Strikers to be similar to previous installments of the franchise, with their complex combos, amazing graphics and laughable story. Unfortunately, the only thing I got was the lame story. Dust strikers is extremely different, offering four player fights with one or two button special moves. Fights initially offered chaotic fun, but soon became monotonous bouts of button mashing. The minigames would not be worth playing if they didn't unlock moves for Robo Ky Factory.

A change for Guilty Gear
3 Star Review   By member heffaji - Jun 27, 2006

Strengths: What you will find worthwhile in this game is the fast, although simple gameplay. It's main worth is in it's potential for multiplayer fun

Weakness: If you are looking for a traditional Guilty Gear experience, avoid this game.

Normally, you would expect a new Guilty Gear game to play like it has in the past. However, it's new incarnation on the Nintendo DS departs from it's past formula to adopt a style similar to Nintendo's Smash Brothers. Consequently, you won't find as much depth in this game compared to other Guilty Gear titles, but what you will find is a lot of fun if you have friends to enjoy it with. As a single-player game, it's enjoyable, but lacks long-term fun. As a multiplayer game, it's great.

Strengths: Lots of fighting~

Weakness: Nothing but fighting~

Since many people were talking about to get this game, so I did. To my surprise, this is not a typical DS game. It was just formatted to be played on a DS. Endless fighting, if you like this sort of game, you may give it a try. Graphics are like GBA level. OK music. Will not buy again.

Dust Strikers' name is mud.
1 Star Review   By member bookends - Jun 26, 2006

Strengths: It's the only 2D fighting game franchise of worth released on the DS (at least in America).

Weakness: It flat out sucks. Someone should wave a skunk in front of it.

Guilty Gear is a very respected series in 2D fighting circles, especially in Japan. Other than sharing the name and characters, that's about all this game has going for it. Guilty Gear itself was known for very precise and high level gameplay and beautifully drawn high-resolution sprites. This game has neither. Animation frames are missing and scaled down and the gameplay has been completely watered down. Think Easy mode on any Capcom fighter, but much much worse. Additionally, someone came up with the idea to turn it into a multi-level fighter, making each DS screen half a level. The DS screen is small as it is, but doing this forces the characters to be extraordinarily small. The four player fighting style has also been thought to not work very well in a 2D fighting game and Dust Strikers is no exception to this. If you want a portable fighting game for your DS, try importing Bleach or Jump Superstars. If you have to go domestic, even give the Dragonball game a try. Or try picking up one of the Street Fighter GBA carts. Or better yet, get a PSP and get SFA3 or Tekken Dark Resurrection. Stay away from this title.

Guilty Gear Dust Strikers
2 Star Review   By member videogames - Jun 25, 2006

Strengths: Decent character selection, multiplayer up to four players

Weakness: No single-cart multiplayer

As some other reviewers have said, this definitely feels like more of a button masher than a good fighting game. It has a few modes of play that may keep you busy for a little bit, but even then you can still unlock everything pretty quickly. If you have friends to play with, that may add to the replay value of the game. Unfortunately for me, none of my friends have this game, and there's no single-cart multiplayer option. There's really not much in the game to keep me coming back.

Guilty Gear DS
2 Star Review   By member Kschumannjr - Jun 24, 2006

Strengths: A great blend of classic music and character art. The animation had to be cut down, but the feel is still there

Weakness: Underwhelming animation and gameplay, does not feel like a complete fighting game

The gameplay is extremely basic, the characters suffer from lackluster animation on the DS, and the overall feel just isn't worthy of the Guilty Gear name. While the basic levels are fun, but the overall strategy is far too small. Prepare to resort to button mashing, which is sad when compared to other games in the Guilty Gear franchise.

Guilty Gear DS
3 Star Review   By member afrikanpygmy - Jun 23, 2006

Strengths: Unique gameplay

Weakness: Button Mashing

This was definately a unique attempt by Arc Systems. However, Guilty Gear gameplay on a Super Smash Bros. field doesn't work out as well as I thought it would. It is a fun game though.

4 Star Review   By member Blinkminime - Jun 22, 2006

Strengths: Very fun fighting game.

Weakness: Game lacks in graphics and some sounds.

This is my first guilty gear game I have ever played and must say, I do like it a lot. The fighting it very fun with the touch screen, and so are the cool little mini games. There are 7 mini games in all and they are all a bunch of fun. If you have some extra cash, try and check out this game.

I love Guilty Gear...
3 Star Review   By member mirado182 - Jun 22, 2006

Strengths: -I like the cover art....

Weakness: -Unfortunately, I'm not as happy with the game

Kudos to Arc Studios for trying something new on the DS. You see, this is much different from the PS2 versions. You'll probably find yourself buttonmashing to win without strategizing at all. IGN has mentioned that even fans should stay away from it. However, I gave it a chance and if you can find it for a great price, like under $15, then you can think about giving this a chance.
