Spider-man
4 Star Review   By member TheHobbit - Feb 9, 2006

Strengths: The graphics is amazing!!!

Weakness: The ONLY complaint there is to have about this game is the fact that you can't land on the street, when you're swinging around the city.

This is one of the best games I've ever played. Of course, that was before Spider-man 2 came out. Your surroundings look perfectly real, and the characters on the screen mirror there film counterparts in amazing detail. If you are a Spider-Man fan, there is no doubt you should buy this game.

Spider-man the game actually does the movie justice. . .
4 Star Review   By member MaxBiaggi2 - Dec 12, 2005

Strengths: A decent movie-to-video-game translation, expands on the film, useful training mode, open GTA-style sandbox game play, narration by Bruce Campbell, solid sound/graphics

Weakness: Frustrating control issues, sluggish camera movement, missing Xbox-exclusive areas and boss, short overall length, repetitive bad guys

Movie-to-video-game translations have historically offered developers a chance to simply cash in on a popular license, but Spider-man the game does a decent job of bucking this trend. While the game play isn't phenomenal, Spider-man's latest gaming experience won't disappoint you like many superhero games do. Basically, you follow Spider-man through the events of the recent film, and the game does a decent job of expanding upon the movie to give you more insight into Spider-man's world. The graphics and sound are decent enough, and many of the actors from the film (Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, Bruce Campbell, etc.) recorded dialog for the game. When you're not busy completing various missions, you can freely roam the city and stop petty crimes where and when you encounter them. This is fortunate because the actual storyline only lasts a mere six hours or so. Given this title's new budget price, fans of the film or comic series may wish to give the hero's adventure a try. If you're not a fan, you won't miss anything by skipping out on this one though.

Decent Spiderman Action
3 Star Review   By member gamejunkie - Oct 30, 2005

Strengths: Lots of combat and airborne moves, great game for the fans

Weakness: Short, not enough super-villians

Defend the city from the clutches of evil with all-new combat move and dizzying airborne acrobatics. Move through stunning scenes from the movies as you explore enormous city environments with newfound manuefverability. Battle the world's toughest villians, including Shocker, Vulture and the Green Goblin.

Spider-Man (Gamecube)
3 Star Review   By member GreySector - Sep 13, 2005

Strengths: Gameplay that evokes the 'Spider-Man' feeling

Weakness: Extremely Difficult!

I enjoyed this game. As others have commented it does an admirable job of using the plot of the movie and expanding it into areas not seen on the screen. I appreciated the varios training modes (and highly recomend playing through them all before playing the actual game, as boring as it is.) The various training boards really sharpen the skills you need in order to be successful in the game itself. I found gameplay to be difficult, but not overly so. The main difficulty was in dealing with the extreme maneuverability of Spider-Man. My main complaint with the gameplay is the fact that the game does not seem to re-adjust the control scheme based on Spider-Man's new orientation (crawling around corners, zipping to new surfaces) fast enough. This is frustrating when you want to go a particular direction, but the game has not caught up to your new facing so the direction you press winds up being a different direction entirely. Arg. Overall if you are a fan of Spider-Man I recommend this game. A solidly good game, but not a great one.

3 Star Review   By member Stopper33 - Sep 6, 2005

Strengths: Stick to the subject

Weakness: length, depth

Spider-Man the movie for GCN does what a good movie game should do. It takes the events and ephemera in the license and expands on them while staying true to the source. You will swing from NY skyscrapers, fight street thugs and duke it out with the green goblin. Spider-Man manages to do a good job of recreating the Peter Parker experience by rendering a good amount of cityscape as you swing from building to building. The graphics try to stay close to the movie's source visual style. You will be controlling Tobey Maguire and the rest of the game takes a similar visual cue. The graphics are pretty good, but they are not groundbreaking. Sound follows pretty much the same pattern as graphics, taking cues from the movie. Of special note are the cool Bruce Campbell voice overs during the tutorial and elsewhere. The thwip, fwip and whizz of webbing also sounds pretty good. The game itself is fairly pedestrian. You swing from mission objective to objective, occasionally solving a puzzle and pounding on baddies. There are many moves you can learn for dusting baddies but the punch, punch kick work well enough that learning them isn't essential. The game itself is somewhat short, but it does a good job of expanding on the movie and adding some of the comic book mythos. Spider-Man is by no means a great achievement in gaming. It has good to average graphics and sound. It has similar gameplay. Everything it does, it does adequately, and there are no real areas of complaint. It avoids the many pratfalls that often plague movie games, and has a host of unlockables for the eager player. Spider-man the movie is a solid game, and fans of the movie will be happy.

An OK title.
2 Star Review   By member WolfPac_Ite - Aug 5, 2005

Spiderman: The Movie is your average movie game. The game is short and repetitive, but you do ulock the ability to play as the Green Goblin(With glider and weapons) after finishing as Spiderman. So that does boost the length a little bit. Overall I don't recomended it, as there are plenty of other better games out there that are cheap.

3 Star Review   By member dshadow1 - Apr 18, 2005

Strengths: If you're a Spiderman fan and want a game with his IP, then you should enjoy this game. Not a bad adventure.

Weakness: While there are a number of combos in the game, the game can be finished with just a few combos; so the game ends up being a button masher.

Spiderman-the Movie is a good game; however, the game tends to be at times either too easy or just kinda boring. (This may be because I'm not a huge Spiderman fan and just could not get into the story.) The game has several missions and boss battles that must be completed until you get the final boss battle with the Green Goblin. Use of Stan Lee, Toby Maguire and William Dafoe for voice acting allows the player to relive parts of the movie. The graphics in the game are pretty good and the controls are okay. In summary, Spiderman is an enjoyable game, but it is not one that you're likely to pick and play over again.
