Fun, Durable Board
5 Star Review   By Judson on Home Depot - Apr 9, 2013

I've been dying for it to warm up so I could try this board out! This board is a lot of fun and very sturdy. I am 5'2" and right at 130 lbs, so at the very top of the recommended weight. I was pleasantly surprised by how stable it is. I probably sat a little lower than I would on an adult board, but for tooling around it works just fine. I'm sure that for actual children/youth (and not just vertically challenged adults), it will be even more stable. I prefer this board to the more expensive fiberglass boards because it's far more durable. It's hard plastic, so it's WAY more durable than fiberglass boards. You don't have to worry about accidentally dropping it and dinging it - this thing is STURDY. With that said, it's a little on the heavier side for a board this size. Most children will have a hard time maneuvering it on their own without just dragging it, more so because of the awkwardness of it than the weight though (even with the handle it's hard to get a good grip in the middle & it's 8 ft long, so it's a little hard to balance). I recommend buying a shoulder harness for it. With the harness, it's very easy for me to hang on the wall for storage and place into the SUV to head to the lake. I like that the fin is retractable so you can transport it without worry & so if you accidentally run up against a rock or something in the water it will retract and not break. My only concern is the paddle. It's held up fine so far & I like that it's adjustable, I'm just not sure how it will fair long term. It seems like it could break if it were to hit something wrong, but like I said - so far so good, so I may be completely off on that. Bottom line - stable and sturdy enough that you don't have to worry about the kids tearing it up & it's a blast to play with (for kids of all ages!). Great upgrade to your water toy collection!

Makes me wish I was a kid.
5 Star Review   By sacherjj on Home Depot - Feb 16, 2013

Unfortunately, due to still being winter and no child I offered would ride this in 30 degree weather, we haven't been able to functionality test it yet. I did do a buoyancy test and it is was still floating great as I maxed out at 150 pounds of weight on it. This makes sense, as you want the 130 lb child to float easily as they paddle. The board looks like it is standard rotary molded HDPE, just like most low to mid range kayaks and many canoes. The rudder design is well thought out. Deploys easily, but has a release to go back with minimal effort, for if run the paddle board shallow without thinking of the rudder. It stows with a more firm lock so it won't flip out under storage. The paddle is lighter than I expected on a non-premium level paddle board, which is good. Too heavy of a paddle would be fatiguing for a younger, lighter kid that this board is designed for. I forgot to test if the paddle floats. We will do that when we try on open water. The hand grip on the side is located right at the balance point and makes the board easy to carry. I included photos of the front handle and tether attachment point. I will update this review once we have functionality testing in open water this spring.

Super Lightweight and easy to carry!
5 Star Review   By jonjon1 on Home Depot - Jan 10, 2013

This a a great size paddle board for a smaller person. When it arrived I had my 18 year old test it out in our pool to see how it would handle a 6'1" 180lb person, he of course exceeded it's rated weight limits. Thankfully he didn't go swimming as the water was around 58 degrees! It held him but I would definitely recommend staying within the rated weight limits. My daughter is getting this for her birthday and it will be perfect for her as she is only 95 lbs. I love the bright color and the wide base that adds more stability. It also has a retractable fin so there is no risk of breaking it while transporting it. Lightweight, easy to carry and super durable. We love it!

Youth Stand Up Paddleboard
5 Star Review   By Shinypenny on Home Depot - Jan 9, 2013

It is winter here in Missouri, so we asked if we could try out the paddleboard at the local indoor Aquatic Center. The kids at the pool all went crazy over it, excited to take their turn riding the paddleboard. The parents were all interested in it, since the kids were going nuts over it. This 8 foot youth model was easy for children of all different ages to quickly get the hang of stand up paddleboarding. There are grips where your feet should go, so the kids used them as a guide where their feet should be to keep themselves balanced. We're in Missouri, and paddleboarding is new here. We plan to take it on our annual summer float trip in Arkansas, and to the local lakes for fun. It's kind of big and heavy for a child to carry, so help from an adult is definitely needed, or 2 kids could possibly carry it. Great product made in the U.S.A.

Solid
5 Star Review   By KBKB on Home Depot - Jan 4, 2013

This Hooligan youth paddleboard from Lifetime Products is really well made. The plastic is thick and looks like it would last through a lot of use. I'm not sure it quite qualifies as having compact design though as it is about 30 lbs, 8 feet long, almost 3 feet wide, and maybe 6 inches tall with the fin folded in. Due to it being the middle of winter, I can't try this out in the water right now, but it certainly looks like it is a great product. It is also made in the USA!
