Microsoft Train Simulator
4 Star Review  GameZone - Jun 11, 2001

“Train, train, take me on out of this town …” Some games come along leaving gamers wondering just what the joy there will be in the effort of playing them. Microsoft’s Train Simulator is one of them. But launch the program and you will be immediately aware of the joy of it. Earlier this year, there was a case of a runaway train. Engineers conspired to make sure the engineer-less train did not harm anyone. Earlier in life, I happened to work for a national railroad company, and had several opportunities to ride in the engine. What happened up there was a mystery.

Train Simulator
4 Star Review  IGN.com - Jun 20, 2001

It's widely known around the office that I don't think much of civilian flight sims. While I can get no end of enjoyment out of Combat Flight Simulator, piloting a Cessna from Seatac to SFO just seems to bore me. I felt the same way approaching this game. But after playing around with Microsoft's Train Simulator for a few weeks, I finally get what all the fuss is about with the civilian transportation sim. Some may still think the game is somewhat limited by the nature of its subject, but they're missing the point. Train sim offers a chance to step into the cabs of some classic trains and travel through some amazing locations.

Enjoyable simulation game
4 Star Review   By member ms3e - Oct 26, 2006

Strengths: Unique! Good graphics, easy to learn

I found this to be a pretty unique game/simulation. You only need to learn a few things start playing and you can get into detailed scenarios if you like. Not an action game (as you might imagine) but enjoyable nonetheless. My 7 year old likes to play it too.

Great game
4 Star Review   By member Cameras and Computers - Nov 3, 2005

Strengths: Graphics, tons of scalability

Weakness: Lots of small glitches and bugs.

This is a great game, but not one full of action. It has great graphics, and the tools provided with the retail version allow anyone with a bit of skill and knowhow to create their own routes and trains. There are many places online where you can download additional things. Some user made routes dont work and make train sim crash, so be careful which ones you get.
