Dungeon Siege
4.5 Star Review  GameZone - Apr 8, 2002

The woods are crawling with all manner of beasts – wolves, Cyclops, giant flying insects and little beasties that fire magic at your party. In the crypts and tombs, spiders and giant worms attack in wave after wave. The swamps are infested with swimming and hungry life forms including dragon-like creatures. The Droog erupt from the sands near the Cliffs of Fire with an almost mindless need to attack. Yep, it’s rough being a hero. Dungeon Siege, from Gas-Powered Games and Microsoft, is a dungeon crawl that combines the role-playing genre with a touch of real-time strategy – but just a touch.

4.5 Star Review  GameSpy - Apr 12, 2002

At this point it is pretty safe to say that Chris Taylor is one of the gaming worlds' leading visionaries -- few designers could make the transition from creating a truly groundbreaking real-time strategy franchise and then turn to an epic adventure game. Dungeon Siege, his highly anticipated hack and slash action title, proves that it is still possible to be original even when setting a game in an all-too-familiar fantasy world. Taylor has, in essence, reinvented the fantasy adventure by creating a world that isn't attached to stereotypical races and archetypes that are often more, than merely, inspired from the works of Tolkien or Dungeons & Dragons.

4.5 Star Review  Macworld.com - Aug 1, 2003

This month Peter Cohen looks at several different takes on the action genre -- a modern relative of Dungeons and Dragons, a 3-D romp with a bouncing orb, an homage to top-down- scrolling games of yore, and three variations on classic puzzle games. One thing they have in common is some fast and furious play.

4 Star Review  IGN.com - Apr 4, 2002

About two years ago this coming summer, I started my very short trip down the much-hated road by reviewing a small game that very few people cared about called Diablo II. Oh the humanity... hate mail! Hate mail! Yikes. I gave the game a good review too. It just wasn't perfect. But why am I speaking of this in the Dungeon Siege review? Well, because it's a lot like Diablo, that's why. Once again, there are a lot of things that are good about the game, some things that are very good in the game but at the same time, a bunch of things that I just can't seem to get past. But before anyone goes and starts on with any amount of hate mail after some of the things I say in the review, hear this... I liked this game! It's a good game! All right, now we can get on with it.

4 Star Review   By member aforgeman - Jan 10, 2005

Strengths: Very good multi-character game. Online play is optional and fun.

Weakness: The game did quit on me unexpectantly, twice, after several hours of gameplay.

I really did like this game. Enough so to order the expansion "Legends of Arana". Save yourself some money and buy both games at the same time. I had about 60 hours of gameplay not including the number of times my party was wiped out and I had to replay.

Strengths: Very good story if you talk to EVERYONE and get all the story insted of walking through a town not knowing what to do. It also had a very good sound-track. Good graphics and very realistic.

Weakness: Pretty poor on online gamming because for MAC users like myself you have to download the Game Ranger software just to play online.

For all of you that said that the story was terrible you all must be on CRACK, because I understood it crystal clear. But then again I did also talk to almost every person and did all of the side missions just to understand it. Over all I would say this game is very good and I waould buy it for everyone to try.

Strengths: great graphics, lots of magical weapons and equipment

Weakness: tedious gameplay,no story,unbalanced

Dungeon Siege- **1/2 stars This game sucked so many people in with its great graphics.Well after playing the game for a while, the graphics arent good enough to save its awfull gameplay. The dungeons are never-ending and pointless, all you do the whole game is move your characters around and fightand pick up stuff, you dont even need to be playing because the characters fight themselves without you even having to tell them. There is no story whatsoever, which isnt a big deal to me but it would be nice if it at least made some kind of sense.Characters who can cast spells you can basically forget because you never really get a chance to cast spells and things during the fighting and they dont do much either.Overall a pretty poor game that could have been so much more, not worthless but very dissapointing.

2 Star Review   By member Unrealnighthawk - Jul 29, 2003

Strengths: fun game-play (while it lasted)

Weakness: VERY repetitive

It wasn't too bad, but it gets old after playing it a couple times. There is virtually no story line and just clicking monsters over and over isn't that great. You can add party members, but still all the same concept. Still just clicking monsters and rolling the dice for hit points.

3 Star Review   By member sgthalka - Mar 14, 2003

Strengths: Environmental graphics and music are incredible. No load times betw levels. Easy-to-use interface

Weakness: There's no story. Killing monsters over and over gets old after your third or fourth time sitting down to play. Too easy.

Dungeon Siege is just too simple all-around. Hacking 'n' slashing is fun for a while, esp with a game design as lush as this one, but there's no story to sink your teeth into. If you are someone who's never played Baldur's Gate II, Morrowind, or Final Fantasy X, you'll probably be BLOWN AWAY by this game. But really, what make RPGs amazing are when you identify with the characters ... or AT LEAST your own character. This one's just a pretty, easy-to-play, slashfest.

Strengths: Changing from one area to another w/o a load-time. Graphics are ok.

Weakness: Everything else.

This game was a waste of my time and money, but once I start a game I finish it. DS had bad character control and management. There was no storyline whatsoever. It also was very easy to beat with absolutely no satisfaction. Don't say you weren't warned.

Strengths: A great game engine.... It looks and sounds absolutly stunning.

Weakness: Well this game really does prove that beauty is only skin deep.

I am sorry to all the DS fanboys out there who love this game but I just felt it was one of the biggest let downs of my life (even worse than being told Santa wasn't real when I was about 7). I downloaded the demo for this game and must admit I was blown away by it, and when the game hit the shelves I rushed out to secure my own piece gaming heaven.... I was looking forwards to what seemed like a great character generation and development scheme, the wide variety of magical items, the great looking AI that I had noticed in the demo and much much more. Then as I started to play I 1st of all noticed that what I thought had been a great monster AI turned out to be just a couple of neat scripts, a couple of scripts that just kept repeating and repeating ad nausuem, then as I started to build my party around me I realised that the lack of monster AI was nothing compared to the lack of NPC AI, yes part of the fun of multiple character RPG is controling the party, but I am sorry these NPCs where so stupid that you would have to tell them to drop their pants before going to the toilet. What I had originally thought to be a great character generation scheme turned out to be equally ill conceived especial when tied into what became an increasingly bewildering and perverse array of magical items. This was then further complicated by not having and reference material to tell me what the actual stats and abilities did or how they really related to each other. It just sucks

4 Star Review   By member leech - Jul 24, 2002

Strengths: Astonishing graphics, excellent soundtrack, amazing character development, excellent story, I could go on forever.

Weakness: Does tend to get boring... but, it always gets more exciting again. Every game is boring sometimes.

I deffinatly do not regret buying this game, I really enjoy it. I admit, it's no "diablo 2" but, it still kicks a$$. My one major gripe regards the multiplayer. I have a wireless network gatway (a router) so my parents lap tops can access the internet wirelessly. It seems that because of this device, I cannot play online at all! Dungeon Siege is the only game I've ever had that does this. I still do not regret purchasing this game, despite the fact that I cannot play multiplayer games. I'm upgrading my computer soon, and everything will be wiped, so when I go about reinstalling the software for the router, I can probably or hopefully configure it so that Dungeon Siege will work anyway. Anyhow, I highly reccomend buying this game, even if you're not a fan of rpg's. This game will quite likely hook you onto the genre.

Strengths: Great graphics

Weakness: Too easy

Great graphics but too easy. When in battle all you have to do is keep hitting the health button. Online playing maybe better than single gameplay. If I had it to do all over again I'd wait a year or so til the price drops significantly.

Strengths: rpg is cool (normaly)

Weakness: bad story, bad character developing, action is nearly impossible cause everything works automatically, you dont get in deep with your chars like in Diablo or ultima or even dungeon master, u just play

first u think wow good game, nice char developing, my char is getting better very fast and the gaming world is nice created. then u realize that u cant get 5 steps of the path without getting to a wall witch keeps u in the labyrinth called °world°. after realizing that everything is like watching a movie without interacting u get bored playing this game and after 5hours playin in the same dungeon without gettin seen more then the normal 5 monster in the dungeon u wanna just run away, but theres no way to get it done faster, so u switch to the most easy mode and just run through, cause it makes no difference, its just faster and less boring, but still boring enough to made me sleep while playin this game, so i tell u all it sucks hard, but the worst point is that ur chars level up like hell, but u realize that it dosnt make a difference if u kill more monster or just normal amount of em, cause u get through anyway. in the end i can say that i am happy not to bought that game, only own a cracked copy, so i didnt spent money for this piece of sxxx. PS: play D2 or WC3 or Morrowind, those rpg`s are bettter than this one!

Strengths: This game has many good magical items, few bugs, runs smoothly, it has good music, and the online playing is great.

Weakness: I hate to say it but the game gets boring faster than it should. Playing it online is a lot more fun (as most games are online) but online there is too much lag.

This game is one of those games were you have to play it on line. I've played it off line, but it doesn't come close to the games made only for off line play. The on line is better than I expected, so much so that this is the best free on line roll playing game I have ever played. This game is a must buy.

5 Star Review   By member 5p00n - May 21, 2002

Strengths: If you like the Diablo2 style of RPG/Action game, this is the ultimate refinement of it. This game blows away all others in the RPG/Action genre.

Weakness: nada

The graphics are spectacular. The interface is refreshingly streamlined and easy to master. The design is both more logical and more enjoyable than Diablo2. This is not a "pure" RPG like Balder's Gate, it has some similarities, but it is more like the Diablo style. It is the most impressive game in this genre I've played to date. The person who reviewed this product with a "one star" rating is out of their mind, they obviously do not care for this type of game, and should therefore not have rated it at all. Make no mistake, if you enjoy the RPG/Action genre, this game will blow you away. I recently played Diablo2 LoD again, and it totally pales in comparison to this game, in every way. It looks like the developers really thought of everything! It's amazing!

Strengths: Great graphics, gameplay, Seige Editor will be released to the public for making custom dungeons...

Weakness: None...

Dugeon Seige use powerful technology and good ol' RPG hack and slash to make one hell of a game. This is a great PC action/RPG that give massive battles and quests to players to save the Kingdom of Ehb or the battle it out in the Utrean Penninsula. Just buy it if you are intrested...

Strengths: Awesome environments, 3D, awesome weapons, awesome graphics! No load times (except in the beginning), NO LAG AT ALL!!!!

Weakness: I found no glitches in Dungeon Siege.

This game is well worth the money and if you buy it from Gamespy it is definately worth it. It has a large variety of weapons and armor to keep you suited up all the time, awesome graphics and environments, and one of the main things is that you only have to load it up ONCE in the beginning of play! This has to be the best RPG out there.
