SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition
4.5 Star Review  GameZone - Nov 6, 2003

I have a confession to make: I've never played a Sim City game before (unless you count the kiddie version Sim Town). I know, I know, where on earth have I been? And what is really strange is the fact that I absolutely adore all the City Building games from Impressions Games and Sierra. For some reason, Sim City has always looked too modern for my blood. But when this newest deluxe version showed up on the reviewers list, I decided it was time to bite. Then I became the bitten. I'm not going to waste space exhaustively detailing a game that has already been reviewed by our staff.

SimCity 4 | Deluxe Edition
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Apr 4, 2010

SimCity 4 (SC4) is a city-building simulation computer game developed by Maxis, a subsidiary of Electronic Arts. It was released on January 14, 2003. It is the fourth installment in the SimCity series. SimCity 4 has a single expansion pack known as Rush Hour which adds additional features to the game. SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition contained the original game and Rush Hour combined as a single product. The game allows players to create a region of land by terraforming, and then to design and build a settlement which can grow into a city. Players can zone different areas of land as commercial, industrial, or residential development, as well as build and maintain public services, transport and utilities. For the success of a city players must manage its finances, environment, and quality of life for its residents. SimCity 4 introduces night and day cycles and other special effects for the first time ... PROS: (1) easy to learn but difficult to master - offers complicated budget, business, and transit systems (2) graphics - lots of detail is shown, especially on the highest zoom level (3) fun - stays true to the SimCity formula without getting old (4) good documentation - comes with a large, detailed manual (5) lots of replay value ... CONS: (1) time consuming - will take hours and hours to build the perfect megalopolis (2) has little to offer beyond basic city building modes (3) only offers minor tweaks over the previous version of the game (4) some of the older game strategies will no longer work

4 Star Review   By member Anonymous - Dec 2, 2007

Strengths: Detailed graphics; tons of options and controls; different gameplay modes

Weakness: 3D views limited to 4 angles - makes some lots on hills hard to see; no Godzilla-monster like previous versions

SimCity has come a long way over the years. This latest version brings updates the graphics and gameplay to what you'd expect from a modern computer game - it almost feels like a real city at times. I was really impressed by the sheer amount of control that it gives the player. This is a great game for all ages and has different levels of difficulty, for beginners who just want to get a city going, on up to advanced players who want challenges that require more strategic thinking. Be warned, though: this is a game that will keep you busy for a couple hours at a time if you want to get anything out of it!

SimCity...now larger than ever
4 Star Review   By member drakula - Aug 29, 2007

Strengths: Good graphics. Ability to zoom in at better quality than before. Ability to play with characters from the Sims. Original and expansion in one package.

Weakness: Annoying bugs that require patching.

SimCity 4 improved quite a lot from the previous games of the SimCity franchise. The game uses 3D engine to deliver better graphics than previous games. The buildings look more realistic and have better shadows, the people and vehicles also looks better. It is possible to zoom in at the city and have a better look at the people, vehicles, buildings and such, than the previous games. Custom characters from the Sims can also be used in SimCity 4, making it much more fun to have characters with desirable personalities. It is also fun to see how characters from the Sims react outside of the Sims' house view. The Deluxe Edition is good since it bundles the original SimCity 4 and the expansion together at fairly good price. That way, there is no need to buy them separately. The game is fun and all, but there are some annoying bugs that require patching in order to make the game run smoothly and enjoyable. It is a good thing that Electronic Arts provided patches for some of the major issues and made them available for manual patching, since their autopatching was painful and buggy. Overall, the game provided much more eye candy than the previous games in the series and hence it is quite enjoyable to look at the city and citizens with good graphics. For SimCity fans and the Sims fans alike, this game provides good fun without confined to a single house!

4 Star Review   By member jsanson - May 25, 2004

Strengths: The best graphics to date in the Sim City series. The simulation feels even closer to reality than previous versions, and with more possibilities and choices to make.

Weakness: It can take a very long time to develop a thriving city and requires a lot of micromanagement.

If you liked previous versions of Sim City, I believe you can enjoy this one, too. Just be ready to dedicate long hours to playing it in order to grow desirable cities.
