Warcraft III Battle Chest
4.5 Star Review  productwiki.com - Dec 30, 2010

This Warcraft III Battle Chest includes Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, and the official strategy guides for both games. Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos The real-time strategy world of Warcraft returns in its third installment. The game now runs in full 3-D and has a dedicated multiplayer mode, including shared unit control and resource sharing. You can battle through the campaign mode or a quick game as one of four unique character classes, the Night Elves, Orcs, Undead, and Humans. Each class has a set of three legendary Heroes which are the most effective fighters on the battle field. Heroes get stronger the more they fight, leveling up and gaining new techniques for battle. Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne The expansion pack for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos features a new campagin that expands on the story in the previous game, a fourth hero for each of the ... PROS: (1) very well balanced RTS gameplay in both multiplayer and single player (2) multiplayer is very competitive, can always find someone in your skill range (3) single-player campaign is deep and rich (4) epic storyline, very dramatic and with interesting characters (5) artwork is well designed, lots of details with strong visual themes for each race ... CONS: (1) the use of"heroe" breaks the strategy to a large degree, throws off the balance

Strengths: Graphics

Weakness: Heros

This game ruined the warcraft series with its additions of heros. I found this game unplayable with heros, and you can't get rid of them. The entire game relies on heros and not on strategy. If you want rts, play starcraft.

Strengths: Fun game, great price, great mods such as dota

I am very satified with this game. I play warcraft dota with my friends. The price was excellent. The game is old but there is an active community around it, and you can play it on almost all computers.

you will play this game for hours on end, so be careful when you purchase it, because it will consume your time. The expansion pack is great. I would recommend this product to all game players.

5 Star Review   By member dan_a - Aug 5, 2004

Strengths: Good real time strategy game - excellent variety between races, good gameplay.

Weakness: Gets boring on the harder levels.

Warcraft III is an excellent strategy game. The gameplay is quite good, with missions involving destroying the opponents' base, or sometimes even surviving for 30 minutes (which is harder than it sounds). The races have quite a variety in units - they aren't all completely equal like in Warcraft II. Overall, an excellent RTS game, probably the best out there.

Strengths: Online play

A very good game to play online and by yourself. Not rec. for young kids but also it's not overly violent, graphics are acceptable but not up to par w/ some of the more current titles.

5 Star Review   By member gzorba - May 25, 2004

Strengths: great graphics, variety of missions and campagins, ability to adjust to computer as well as your own strenght in options before the game is played, amazing multiplayer capabilities

Weakness: shortcuts keys for using spells and abilities of units are not easily defined

The game is simply outstandig. It is not easy to get bored with it to quickly since there are several options you can set to make each game attractive - like handicaping the opponent or yourself (so one player start off in a better position), playing against several opponents at a time, three modes of the computer player skill and four races to play against, each one with different strenghts and weaknesses. The Frozen Throne expansion greatly enhaces graphics and has some pretty cool new units. Worth all the money (well, it was worth 31$ I paid)!

Strengths: Great graphics, incredibly addicting

Weakness: Hard to find enough continuous freetime to finish a long game of WC3 at times.

This is a truly great RTS game. Unlike most companies, Blizzard actualy makes most of their games dual format mac/PC... so it makes it very convenient for the mac fans out there (such as myself). Really fun, addicting game, great online play. A+.

Strengths: Gameplay, plot, graphics, and FREE ONLINE PLAY

Weakness: Somewhat more complicated than previous Blizzard games.

I've grown up with computers since I was eight, and I've gamed for just about nearly as long. Blizzard, the company that makes this game, I was introduced to by the original Warcraft, which was certainly a quality game (as was the sequel). But it wasn't until I played Starcraft, the unbelievable game Starcraft, that I became hooked. Starcraft was just brilliant, a combination of a simple but creative interface, diverse units across unique races, a highly memorable plot, and epic -- and free -- online gameply. All of this melded together into a game so well balanced and advanced -- in terms of pure enjoyablity -- that I play it to this day. To be honest, I haven't played a game as good as Starcraft yet, but this game, Warcraft III, comes pretty darn close. It shares with Starcraft the same kind of simple, intuitive interface, as well as awesome units across very unique races. It also continues innovating, bringing an RPG element in the form of "heroes," which can level up, cast spells, and grow in power. If you're lucky enough to get this battle chest, make sure you install the expansion set, the Frozen Throne, right away. Unlike Brood War did with Starcraft, FT adds new units, new spells, and new heroes without dramatically altering the balance of the game; indeed, in my opinion, it makes it better. Is there a flaw to this game? Sure. It's just a tad too complicated. Four races is cool and all, but it adds a certain degree of complexity so that it seems to just have more breadth -- but less depth -- than Starcraft. Might this change over the course of the next few months, or years, as I play this more? You bet. But ultimately, please don't rely on Starcraft alone as the judge; it is my gold standard, and nothing quite makes it to that level. But the fact that this is so darn close, such a beautifully woven game, plot, graphics, and gameply, already makes it a classic on my list.

Strengths: Excellent graphics, improved naviagtion and help screens

This game was tested by me and 7 other friends during a party. After a while, it became a problem as to whose turn it was to paly another level. Everyone understood immediately how the game was played, and with the help of the handy strategy guides, we were able to make better progress and conquests at each level. I cannot believe how much better the graphics are, compared to my old copy of the original WarCraft. Also, we immediately loaded the expansion disc, so we could try out that part of the game. We were not disappointed, it was very good also. One other thing - the price offered here was almost $20 cheaper than what I could find at my local stores. Fantastic!

Strengths: Graphics, graphics, graphics, oh yeah and some superb game play.

Weakness: You will forgo everything else in life for one more skirmish, one more clash, one more conflict, one more spar, one more combat, one more battle, one more war ………

Simply put, the best game ever made for your PC. A perfect blend of strategy and hack and slash. Select your race, select your hero, select your army, select your strategy, and dominate the world of Warcraft. And if that's not enough, you receive unlimited free on-line play. What else could you ask for?

Strengths: Awesome fast-paced Real Time Strategy game; Great unique features for each race; Excellent campaign storyline; Excellent graphics and sound; Does not require high-end PC hardware;

Weakness: Food and Population limits the game to 'small scale' battles

WarCraft III [WC3] and The Frozen Throne [TFT] are in my opinion the best Real Time Strategy games to date. Blizzard spent years of hard work on this one, and it definately shows. WC3 and its expansion pack, TFT are two games that combine the best aspects of StarCraft, Blizzard's previous smash hit, with Role-Playing-Games. Allow me to explain: WC3/TFT functions as a normal RTS game such as StarCraft; the key feature are the Hero units. Heroes in WC3 act as a mini-RPG game: Heroes have attributes (such as Strength, Agility, and Intelligence), spells (which can be 'cast' or act as a passive 'aura' that benefits friendly units), and an inventory. Heroes begin at Level 1 and progress to Level 10 through the course of a game. Each level provides one spell point which can be used to learn different spells that you Hero may cast. Levels also boost attributes (damage, hit points, etc.). Killing certain NPC (non-player-controlled) units yields Items that your Hero may pick up and use.

Strengths: The details really shine through on this one. Good single player storyline. Great Graphics.

Weakness: Nothing really new in terms of RTS gameplay, but executed to perfection.

I would compare it to a cross between the Warcraft II and Warlords Battlecry II in terms of gameplay but 1000 times more immersive. Overall, plays like any old school RTS. However, you have a "Hero" that gains experience and adds the element of Roll Playing (ala Warcraft II Battlecry). The biggest difference is that your character is not just another icon on the screen. When I first started playing through the tutorial, I kept thinking how the game seemed smaller. However, it was really just a case of the graphics brining you closeer to the action. I have not attempted Battlenet yet, but looking forward to it, and I will have to update my review at that point. A couple of game crashes to the desktop, but resolved once latest patch was installed.

Strengths: Great animation.

Weakness: Wife will tend to threaten you with divorce if you play for 3 days straight non-stop.

If you were addicted to Diablo or Command & Conquer well you just better start brewing a bucket of coffee and add this to your collection, and get the BattleChest since its a nice bundle. I paused the game just to write this review. Warcraft 3 will not let you down. The Battlechest makes a great gift since its a complete package. Well sorry for a short review but I gotta go and un-pause and play some more...

5 Star Review   By member hardingdgh - Nov 25, 2003

Strengths: Fun, variability, replayability, challenging, graphics, multiplayer or single player, playable on Battlenet

Weakness: Highly addictive

This is a great strategy game. If you loved Starcraft you'll love this game. The built in hints make it easy to learn and automatically turn off once you show the program you have mastered what it is showing you. The controls are easy to master. The graphics are beautiful. The story line is fun. The different types of characters make the battles so challenging. Remember to save your games as you go along. Then after you get wiped out from a sneak attack you can go back to a saved game before the attack and be prepared next time. It is great fun. Be sure to explore all parts of the map because items are hidden that are not along the routes to get the primary quest completed. Once you master the single player mode you can go online and battle it out on battlenet. Of course you have several races to master and it could take months to master those depending on how late you stay up at night :-)

Strengths: Great interface & graphics. Very smooth animation. Logical controls.

Weakness: Needs a fast machine to make the animation run smooth if you've got a lot of units on screen.

Another winner from Blizzard! If you've played Diablo, Starcraft or previous Warcraft versions, you won't be disappointed. The strategy guides are helpful, but there's nothing like totally immersing yourself in the game. All this and a rebate, too? What else can you ask for?
