As a remedy Oliver hires Hazel Dawes, a young woman from outside of Hollywood culture, to act as a consultant. Her insights prove valuable--in one of the funnier bits in the film, Hazel explains to Oliver that the script for Romeo and Juliet requires a happier ending. Later, Hazel convinces Oliver to hire a short order chef named Danny Beecher to play the lead in his upcoming musical. Hazel falls for Danny, while Oliver falls for Hazel, creating a love triangle which threatens the careers of all three. This musical extravaganza contains a number of funny scenes, including Oliver's efforts to keep Hazel away from Hollywood types, and the antics of a trio of animal trainers played by The Ritz Brothers. GOLDWYN FOLLIES was George Gershwin's last film as a composer. Gershwin's songs for the film include "Love is here to stay," "Love walked in," and "I Love to Rhyme." Minimize |
