I am a sworn enemy of the risible 'Cult of the Cohen Brothers' (over half of their movies are unwatchable, pretentious tripe) but I loved O'Brother. As for the soundtrack, it belongs with those of Ennio Morricone and Miklos Roza-that is to say, The Best. The music of Alison Krauss/Union Station may stand above the rest, but *all* the tracks are good. This one is a keeper.
If you like country western, blue grass, blues, Southern politics and the flavor to back it all up, you should like this. George Clooney plays a modern Ulysses trying to get back to reclaim his wife and passing through similar obstacles that the Ulysses of literature met in the "Odyssey." Ulysses and his cronies even meet a cyclops in the form of John Goodman! Charles Durning plays Governor of...
First off the movie is great and is a must see. I am not a fan of country or blue grass but the sound track for this film is great. The music makes the movie and is a very important part of the movie. It does what a good soundtrack should do, it helps tell the story.
This soundtrack was okay, but not a keeper for me (I got it as a gift and sold it a few months later)......actually I do not understand why everyone loves this soundtrack and movie so much. It was one of the Coen Brothers' weaker movies (personally I have not liked any of their movies since "Fargo," and I thought their first three movies--Blood Simple, Raising Arizona and Miller's Crossing--were...
I'm not a big fan of bluegrass music, but I have to admit that I love this soundtrack. As always, Alison Krause does some wonderful work on this album. The songs are fun, melodic, and memorable. If you liked the movie, you'll love the soundtrack.
Pretty good CD. it has a lot of songs that would have been sung in the 1930s. some of the more older sounding country music. There are various singers on this track including Alison Kraus. WEll done CD.
I just purchased the soundtrack and it's awesome! The only complaint about it is the inclusion of Warrant's "Cherry Pie"....not very old timey at all....
This soundtrack is an absolute blast! It is so different from anything else out there and the music is SO purely American. I love it!
One of the best soundtracks of all time. A mix of old time songs, folk, bluegrass. James Carter & The Prisoners singing "Po Lazarus" hooks you from the beginning. Great songs such as Big Rock Candy Mountain, You Are My Sunshine, Down to the River to Pray, I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow, In the Jailhouse Now, and Lonesome Valley. But the most haunting and memorable song is O Death...

Hear this on CD. It got old fast.
