Description

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Anthony Kiedis (vocals); John Frusciante (guitar); Flea (bass); Chad Smith (drums).Recorded at Cello Studios and Chateau Merchant, Los Angeles, California.Personnel: Anthony Kiedis (vocals); John Frusciante (guitar, background vocals); Chad Smith (drums); Flea (background vocals).Audio Mixer: Jim Scott .Recording information: Cello Studios, Los Angeles, CA; Chateau Memont, Los Angeles, CA; Warner Bros. Studios.Photographer: Julian Schnabel.Building on the return of gifted guitarist John Frusciante on 1999's CALIFORNICATION, BY THE WAY finds the Red Hot Chili Peppers crafting an intricately crafted follow-up light years beyond the band's simple punk-funk origins. Re-teaming with longtime producer Rick Rubin, the Chili Peppers deftly add varied stylistic ingredients to a musical stew of unexpected nuance. Frusciante deals out brisk, flamenco-flavored acoustic rhythm guitar to the breezy Latin outing "Cabron," choppy chords on the ska-like "On Mercury," and double-tracked strands of guitar on "Dosed," a heartfelt ode to love.Amid this orgy of creative rediscovery, funk still remains an important component of the band's sound as evidenced by the infectious rhythms of Flea's bass playing and Frusciante's trademark chicken-scratch fretwork found on the tasty "Can't Stop" and the space-age tribal stomp of "Throw Away Your Television". Other high points find these Cali crazies stringing a distinct Motown beat and Beatles-flavored harmonies throughout the irresistible "Universally Speaking" and adding strings to the ruminative "Midnight," with its gradually escalating monster groove. Despite the daunting, 70-minute length of BY THE WAY, the mature execution and musical change-ups make this a major milestone in the Red Hot Chili Peppers canon.

By the Way (CD - 2002)

Quite a good collection of songs. The lyrics, melodies, and harmonies on this album are quite magnificent, and John Frusciante has really proven himself to be one of the greatest guitarists of our time. However, this album suffers from the fact that it is very long, and too many of the songs sound similar. This is something that has plagued pretty much every RHCP album. All of the songs are great...

By the Way (CD - 2002)

This album is bloody amazing! It follows on nicely from Californication. The opening track- 'By The Way' is so easy to sing along to and the the lyrics are fantastic. One of my favourites is 'I Would Die For You'. You'll find that this is one of those albums where you can sing along to every single song - buy it.

That single they keep hammering at us on the radio is the worst song I have ever heard! And I like the RHCP! They totally lost it ever since Kiedis bleached his hair.

By the Way (CD - 2002)

Couple of really, really good tracks, but overall a little disappointing. Once you have heard "By the Way," "Cabron," "Throw Away Your Television" and "Tear", there's not much else here.

By the Way (CD - 2002)

At first appealing, but rapidly boring. The Chilis have yet to repeat the energy of Bloosugarsexmagic. And even that was overrated. Very formulaic
