Description
Perhaps the most influential and successful independent film ever made, HALLOWEEN is the movie that put director John Carpenter on the map as a viable filmmaker. An exercise in simple, pure horror, HALLOWEEN takes us into the world of a mad killer, Michael Myers, who at a very young age stabbed his older sister to death. Locked away for many years in a mental hospital Michael escapes one night and returns to his hometown to continue his killing spree. Jamie Lee Curtis, in her first role, plays the resourceful babysitter who is chased by the killer on Halloween night. Produced for very little money and a tight shooting schedule, HALLOWEEN was a stunning success when it was released. Written by John Carpenter and his longtime producer Debra Hill, the film set their careers on fire, with both of them working together many times over the next 25 years. The film also made a star out of Jamie Lee Curtis and turned the slasher movie into a viable, successful genre. HALLOWEEN has been copied, parodied and even turned into a franchise of its own, but the original is still considered the best of the bunch. HALLOWEEN was John Carpenter's first foray into horror, and remains the standard to which all other modern horror films are measured.

This is a pretty darn good thriller. It's not really horror. The only thing that would make this film horror is Michael being as scary and inhuman as he was,and not dying. The rest is suspense!!!I love the suspenseful music at the beginning!!!Basically, this movie rocks!!!
Was first released in the summer of '78 at all drive-in movie theaters nationwide. Scared the living dogsh*t out of everyone thereby making it an instant classic. Well done and well made. As most people know, John Carpenter did this one and had nothing to do with the other 8 Halloweens that would come out in the next 25 years or so. You can tell the difference. I still have the 20th anniversary...

I've never understood what Mike Myers' problem was, but I bought the premise that he's evil incarnate hook line & sinker. I also fell for his inability to die - a silly premise, but you believe it in this movie. Frankly, I don't know why the movie works - maybe that awesome, simple sequenced music score, the director's use of complementary colors (orange & blue), his use of suburbia as a...
One great movie of its kind. I certainly was horrified to see it from beginning to end. Defintely a classic that many horror fans would like to see over and over again. Out of all of the Halloween series, this is the best. Will Michael ever be stopped?
genuinely scary - the fact that it was somewhat believable and dwelt in things (babysitting) and places (suburbia) that we like to see as pure and safe made it all the more frightening
Scarey, amazing story & outstanding soundtrack ..
