Excellent Light
4 Star Review   By MICHELLE SCHULTZ on Marine Depot - Aug 25, 2011

Received the 18" Nova Extreme lamp in excellent condition. Packed securely with no damage. After figuring out how to remove the lens cover (it slides off the side) the placement of the bulbs was quite simple - insert and turn until it clicks. This lamp lights my tank very well, and my fish and corals have improved dramatically. I chose not to use the legs that were supplied, instead have opted to set the lamp directly on the glass cover of my tank. It does not produce an extreme amount of heat, but does put out alot of light. A very nice light and money well spent. Thinking of getting a second one so I can run daylights in one and actinics in the other. Rated 4 stars because a switch for each lamp would be great.

Pretty good light
3 Star Review   By ANDY SHANTZ on Marine Depot - Jul 23, 2011

Light arrived with a small crack near one of the end caps (probably a shipping issue and not one that has to do with the light) but still works just fine and I was getting ready to leave town so didnt want to deal with the hassel of sending it back and waiting for a new one. Illuminates a 20-long seahorse/refugium well, and is doing a good job keeping algae, plants and some hardier, lowlight corals happy. Pretty good purchase for the price.

You really cant get a better lighting system for the price, and size. I am extremely pleased and my montiporas and my green implosion palys are pleased as well.

4 Star Review   By ENID BETANCOURT on Marine Depot - Feb 21, 2011

I've looked in many online sites for afortibale marine lighting. I found this one OMG it's perfect. The colors my fish have now are so bright. My coral are happier that ever. If you buy a Nova Extreme 2 Bulb T5 HO 10K/460nm Marine it would be the best thing you can do for your saltwater Aquarium.

5 Star Review   By ANNE on Marine Depot - Feb 2, 2011

Bulbs were a little challenging to figure out how to plug into the fixture/ did not come with instructions. You have to turn the entire bulb and rotating socket 90 degrees to lock it in. Once I figured this out they worked great :)

Great for Refugiums
5 Star Review   By LOGAN on Marine Depot - Jun 8, 2010

My old light burned out and had a specific bulb that was discontinued.. My bad luck. So I got the Current T5 setup as a replacement in my refugium to grow macroalgae. It has a great output across the spectrum that stimulates growth directly underneath it as well as illuminates my entire sump area for when I'm working under there. Its pretty compact and the included legs make it very easy to install... Great Product!

Can't Beat It
5 Star Review   By Iliketomoveit on Marine Depot - Mar 23, 2010

For the price you can't beat it. Trust me I tried. I had the fish store take out 10 different fixtures. This was the only one that when we flipped upside down and turned on, the blue light actually blinded me. I put this on my tank and within 10 minutes my live rock's red alage turned to purple and my rock really does look FIJIAN now. My sand looks so white as well. No noise, awesome leg/stands. I compared this light directly to the Coralife Aqualight 48" and this was by far better. (coralife was to purple)

Very Impressed...
5 Star Review   By BRYAN FINLEY on Marine Depot - Dec 9, 2009

I have had a 35 hexagonal saltwater tank for 8 years now and always had a simple 1 bulb system...most recent reef sun...I always saw very nice looking tanks and most recently looked into getting a good lighting system. The lights I saw were too long and started at around $180.00...I found this light on the sight and did not need the feet...just sits right above and the light is amazing...I would have paid much more for this light as well...very bright and deep blue color...my fish look awesome.

2 Star Review   By JEREMY K on Marine Depot - Dec 8, 2009

When i bought this light,i assumed the legs would adjust to fit a standard 10 gallon tank 20", Think again... Buyer beware if your idea is to buy this light for a standard 10gal tank IT WILL NOT FIT!!! Other than that at least the light worked so 2 stars.

Worked nice, but caught fire.
4 Star Review   By BIMBA KARUNARATNE on Marine Depot - Nov 24, 2009

This is a really nice light. Very bright. The light is very thin and does not distract from the aquarium. However my particular unit caught fire on one of the socket ends after only 20 days of use. The socket melted and the light fell out of that end, and stopped after melting part way into the clear cover. The fire then self extinguished. Hopfully this was a one off rare event!

4 Star Review   By RUBEN ROMERO on Marine Depot - Oct 27, 2009

Very cool fixture. the light is amazing, everything looked better in my tank after i turned it on. recommendable. the only criticism about it is that i would like 2 switches (independent for each light) instead of 1 for both. other than that its great!

24" 2X24 Watt Review
5 Star Review   By NanoReefGuy on Marine Depot - Aug 31, 2009

I just got this light for my 10 Gal Nano Reef. Although my tank is only 20" and this light is 24" the overhang isn't bad at all. The light is still contained in the tank. Also I liked the fact this had 1 power cord (less equipment needed). They must have updated the fixtures' reflectors. I read in previous posts that this model had only one reflector for the 2 bulbs. Mine actually has 2 reflectors, one for each bulb. The heat output is almost nothing and it's completely silent (which is good for me because my tank is in the living room). Anyways, if you have a small 10 or 20 gallon tank this light is PERFECT!

Bright Lights!
4 Star Review   By JULEYT on Marine Depot - Aug 24, 2009

These lights are great. They are very bright and intense and show off the fish colors beautifully. I only gave 4 stars because the legs don't adjust quite far enough to fit my tank width. The first light I got was broken but the seller was great and sent another out right away! Excellent customer service. Thanks

4 Star Review   By BRENT LEORNA on Marine Depot - Jun 15, 2009

I just got this thing running and it is going good so far. It's like a mini sun over my ten gallon tank. The only trouble I have had with it was the legs were a little troublesome to slide on. It is an awesome platform and I have sense redeipt attached two eight blue led light strips for night time viewing. It is sturdy and runs despite my nubie ignorance so GET IT!

2 Star Review   By ROBERT KEYS on Marine Depot - May 26, 2009

Lights have to be in just the right spot to turn on. My first unit failed after 3 days. This is my second one and it took quite a while to get the bulbs in the right spot so the unit would turn on.

Good While It Lasted...
3 Star Review   By CHERISH on Marine Depot - May 19, 2009

I bought this fixture and easily set it up on the tank. It looked and ran great for about a month. After one month it started shorting out randomly. Some days it would turn on and run fine all day, others it wouldn't turn on at all. I ended up having to buy new electric components for it and rigging up my own system to keep my reef under normalized lighting.

Overall this is a great light, It really makes your aqurium ten time better looking, like the real ocean overall i would recommend the this light. The down side its a little hard to put in the bulb, and its so bright the water looks a little musky. but over a great light for a great price.

Although the price was great, and the lighting is wonderful, difficult to get the bulbs initially in fixture and to get it to work. Need to play around with bulbs until exactly in correct 'place' in fixture. First thought light came broken. But, after a few tries, able to get it to work. Now, am pleased.

4 Star Review   By JASON HARTMAN on Marine Depot - Mar 17, 2009

Great little light for the money. Only problem with it is that it does not fit on a 10 gal with the provided legs. All reviews I read about it said it worked well with their 10 gallon. The only way to use it is to set it directly on a glass top. Other than that great light output for the $$$.

Good for 25gal Tank
5 Star Review   By ERIC NEES on Marine Depot - Feb 6, 2009

I have a rather cubical 25gal tank with a large boxy hood and I was having trouble finding a light that would fit inside the hood. This 18inch is nice and short so fitting in the hood is no problem. It puts out some really intense light which makes the two 10W Coralife compact florescent bulbs in the tank next to it look dim and lifeless. It gets warm but not hot, and the build quality seems very good. Great compact and energy-saving alternative to metal halide.

Nice Light!
4 Star Review   By SHARYN Z WERTZ on Marine Depot - Jan 15, 2009

I swapped a 20" 28w PC light for this one and gained 8w in a much more convenient size for my 14gal SW tank (same footprint as a std. 10gal). Separate switches for the actinic and daylight lamps would have been nice, as would a lunar light, but all in all I'm very pleased with both the size and output. Being a Current USA light, the quality is, of course, excellent.

LOVE it
5 Star Review   By KIM BOWERS on Marine Depot - Jan 9, 2009

I LOVE these lights, I bought one and liked it so much I have replaced all my lights with this one. The others never did anything but "light" these add color and depth none of the others could, the tank looks better the fish look better. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to add pop to their tanks.

New Lighting
4 Star Review   By GEORGE TALBOT on Marine Depot - Jan 8, 2009

It cetainly is bright. Maybe a little brighter than what I had wanted. It lights up the entire room. I had a light that sat flush with the top of the tank this one must be on raised legs due to the high heat output. I had a duel switch before so I could time the nights and mornings to get brighter and darker as the day turned. this has only one switch. When timer reaches morning ....Blast! Light. then Night...Blackout. It is in the same room as the TV so on Weekends I may have to scheild the light from blinding the TV. Again the product works great, I think its too bright for my or fish needs.(tank = fish only). Maybe I need to invest in a moonlight to remedy the situation, or see if the bulb can be swapped for dimmer. I liked the slight blush I had before with the actinic. This lamp has two bulbs and the white drowns out the balance. My fish colors seem different and less rich. The recommendation below is for the product and not necessarily my experience of it. American Made a plus.

Disappointed!
1 Star Review   By ROBERT FLY on Marine Depot - Dec 14, 2008

I can't say how well the light works as mine doesn't. I knew the fixture couldn't be very well built for only 90 bucks but I did expect it to work. The shipment was very well packaged and yet the delicate end with scroll work was broken. I thought, not a problem and got some krazy glue and pieced it back together. Then I put the tubes in and began to get a sick feeling as they seemed to be too short for the fixture meaning the holders seemed to far apart for the tubes. Still, I put them in but they were very loose, I thought this is not good, sure enough when I plugged in the fixture a tube flashed only once, and once I heard a frying sound at the pins but never a light. I don't know if I'll try another unit or a different brand. I understand others have not had any problems with these and it would be a good value if it worked, mine didn't.

These are the worst fixtures I have ever seen. The bulbs will not turn in place to make a connection. The flashing under the bulb is razor sharp and will cut your finger easily. I still have not been able to get them to even work, much less rate them for this survey.

Buying another
4 Star Review   By STEPHEN SYDOR on Marine Depot - Sep 29, 2008

I'm happy with my 1st unit and buying a 2nd so I can swap bulbs and run actinics as dawn day and dusk whileother fixture is a day runner on 2 timers. The wall wart for the fan is a bit of a bad design choice. I have to run power bars from my timers. They could have integrated a small xfmr and had it be automatic. The fan is a bit noisy. A smarter designer would have used a 24v fan at 12v to keep it quiet. Power cord could have exited the side tomake my dual setup easier so I have to run the 180 apart and will have cords coming off the front of my set up. Docking hoks are quite useful on this unit. All in all though, a very nice unit. As I said, I'm buying another.

Piece of Junk!
2 Star Review   By TBatty on Marine Depot - Sep 27, 2008

Before I get to the bad let me tell you about the good. This fixture is so slim it can be used to supplement existing lighting and it does this very effectivley. I used this light to supplement my existing 260watt PC fixture on my 55 gallon tank. With this combo I was able to kept even delicate sps corals without any color loss. Ok, know the bad. The finish on this fixture is terrible. If the slighest bit of salt touches this light the finish immediatley corrodes. Also, the fan is cheap and blow out on the third day. Lastly after a few months of use all of the screws are rusted to the point where they almost cannot be removed. If you buy this only do so to supplement other lighting. Do not buy this light as your primary light because it will not last.

Nice Lamp
4 Star Review   By PAUL T on Marine Depot - Sep 15, 2008

Nice lamp for the price. Bought it to replace the Sunlight Supply Ready Fit fixture on my 55 that blew the ballast after less than a year. It does a fine job of lighting a 55 gallon with soft coral. No need for a canopy either, this unit mounts right over the tank and looks good. Other reviews gigged the noisy cooling fan. Not sure if it is a different model or if they changed the design, but this lamp has no cooling fan.

Great Light
5 Star Review   By MICHAEL TAUER on Marine Depot - Jul 20, 2008

Thanks for giving me the chance to rate this light. I've got a Tek 4' 8light unit over my 180 gal reef. The sides were slightly shaded because of the 2' difference in lengths. I place two of the 24' Current Nova Extremes on each end. This has been a GREAT solution for my system. The bulbs that came with the lights are not the perfect spectrum of lighting, but that will be remedied when they need replacing. I've placed them directly on my glass top & the corals love the light. So far they are working great. I would recommend them.

Very pleased
4 Star Review   By WILLIAM ZHANG on Marine Depot - Jul 14, 2008

Bought one for my 10 gallon nano reef and I am very pleased with this product. Its a small compact light that fits perfect. The unit does not get very hot and the light is a pleasant color. I wouldn't mind adding another unit to my tank in the near future! My soft corals seem to be happy as well. My only wish is that they would make more bulb selection and offer a 4 bulb unit with individual reflectors.

Effective!
5 Star Review   By LESLEY HARRIS on Marine Depot - Jul 3, 2008

I just started using this lamp, but so far so good! My corals took notice of the new lamp right away - it was like they grew instantly! The fan noise is noticable, but hasn't bothered me yet. It also really brings out the brightness of my fish - very pretty light-blue-tinted lighting. Love it so far!

Huge Difference
5 Star Review   By NORMAN KNIGHT on Marine Depot - May 30, 2008

What a difference the new Nova Extreme made. Everything perked up, the coraline got much brighter, and now that I am used to the fish wearing dark glasses, I can't say enough good things about this lighting. I would certainly buy this lighting again.

Nice!
5 Star Review   By B CALDWELL on Marine Depot - May 20, 2008

My new Nova Extreme light is Awesome. It went together in seconds and fit right on top of my Refugium. It throws a lot of 10K and Actinic light. It's real "cool" in tight places.

Good but fan is very noisy
3 Star Review   By LUIS MONTEMAYOR on Marine Depot - Apr 30, 2008

This Lamp have a very good price, the light is excellent but, the cooling fan is very noisy, and you need to connect in two contacts one for the lamp and other for fan, the fan connector is very large and if you are using a multiple contact connector, it will need the space of 2 or 3 connectors.

Nice price and powerful
5 Star Review   By ANDY W on Marine Depot - Apr 3, 2008

I use this on a small grow out tank and everyone, including a rehabilitating bubble tip anemone, love it. The price is similar to a retro fit but looks good. As always heat is a concern here in the south but can not comment as it is not summer yet.

I like the slick look, and the power of it's light, the actnick blue is really gives the enhencement to my colorful friends and to my live rocks,,,I wish I selected the 36" instead of the 30" but this was my mis calculation on the length I should of have.. I also like the romptness of my delivery, your customer service over the phone is just excellent, friendly and helpful..I used to shop from Dr. fosters for my marine needs for years but from now on I will be your client for sure. Good light
4 Star Review   By Hodori on Marine Depot - Feb 7, 2008

Currently running over a 14 gallon. Its not bad, but I feel like I need a little more so I am going to be running 2 of these lights back to back. Color is great and runs cool. Probably wouldn't recommend for anything bigger than a 10 gallon. Good price for a good light.

Great lights, I have these running with two VHO's and my corals couldnt be happier. Right now I only have softies and LPS's. These things are very strong and powerful for the money. I am considering buying another one and replacing the VHO's with it. Good product would definitely buy again.

Ballast dead after 4 months
2 Star Review   By Ace on Marine Depot - Oct 13, 2007

Well, after only 4 months of use the ballast blew. Was hoping for better but this seems to be my luck with both PC and T5 Current USA ballasts. I replace balasts more than I do bulbs.. So my initial review above was a first impression.

Great little light.
5 Star Review   By 0scar on Marine Depot - Sep 18, 2007

Great little light. I used it on my 10 Gallon nano reef setup and has completely blown me away. I was expecting a lot less from this light. Great purchase, really bright, and wonderful colors. I would strongly recommend this product, the light output for the watts is amazing. I was reluctant to purchase as I figured it would be a cheap light. The construction is solid, it runs a bit warm, but hasn't affected tank temperature at all. I run these guys about 10 hours/day. Bottom line, I would have paid a lot more for these guys. Will not disapoint.

This lighting fixture made an immediate impact in my aquarium. My corrals all reacted as soon as the light went on. My spotted dragonette came out of hiding and the colors in my tank have never been so bright.

Great Light
4 Star Review   By Ace on Marine Depot - Jun 9, 2007

Placed on 29Gallon tank to add w/ 2x65w PC light. This light is a lot brighter and corals responded almost immediately. Seperate reflectors would have made it 5 star. Lux output is = to 197w PC!
