Good for small dogs
4 Star Review   By RachelandUgMug on PETCO - Mar 10, 2012

I used to do professionally dog grooming and I can say that while this product is not professional grade, it is great for home use on small to medium sized dogs. For those of you complaining about how long it takes to cut the nails, you are letting the nails GROW WAY TOO LONG. You can't expect a dremel (even a pro one) to take 1/2" or more off the nail. If our salon, we always trimmed with a clipper first if the nails were that long. HOWEVER, if you do own a dremel, you have no excuse for letting the nails get that bad! Too long nails are not comfortable for your dog and can even cause arthritis because they will make your dog walk funny. My rescued Chihuahua's nails were curled over and her poor little feet hurt! It took a lot of work to get her toes back down to normal and now I actually get compliments on how nice her nails look (no pawlish, just well groomed!). Unless you have a very active dog who wears their nails down to stubs, you need to trim every week. I take the tips off every week and it takes less than 10 minutes. This might not be the best product for a large dog with thick nails as it is not as strong as some of the more expensive grinders, but its good for a small to medium sized dog. You can buy a pack of replacement heads for $4.99 (can't beat that), though you do need to buy batteries. Overall a good product, very affordable, but I gave four stars because it isn't the strongest and needs the batteries replaced frequently. If you haven't used a dremel before, I would actually recommend a product like this because its a little bit slower and although it takes longer, it is harder to cut the quick.

My cat is hard to hold to brush and so thought this would be easier then a file, It was. The noise did not bother him at all. He did not pull away anymore then his normal behavior so yes i would recommend this.

Low power
2 Star Review   By MikeInOr on PETCO - May 21, 2011

It's not rechargeable! and the power is very low. There are many other rotary tools that may work better. The bit cover is helpful for keeping the nail dust out of your face. I like that feature.

Great buy!
5 Star Review   By Phyllsmom on PETCO - Apr 5, 2011

Works great on my chihuahua! I was getting desperate when my pup wouldnt let me clip his nails and they were getting way too long. As a last option before paying for a groomer to do it i tried pedi paws. Phyll doesnt mind at all it almost seems like he likes it. The only trick I use is holding him as I do it, once he got used it it's been great and saved me so much money.

Keeps the dogs off the couch...
1 Star Review   By Calicoast214 on PETCO - Feb 3, 2011

This thing takes ages in comparison to a regular set of clippers. Can't get either of my dogs to sit still long enough for me to file down their nails to the appropriate length (you have to file in short bursts, produces too much heat otherwise). Better off going with clippers, they're quicker and your dogs wont fuss as much.

5 Star Review   By PatDE on PETCO - Feb 2, 2011

Why did we ever waste time and money on the conventional clippers? This product is ideal. Both dogs accept it with ease and the stress of clipping nails is gone for us. One dog has black nails, therefore we had to clip less nail and clip more often to avoid accidentally moving into the quick. Thanks, PediPaws!

I have 2 standard size dachshunds.I use this on them, and they claw me each time I turn it on.You have to replace the batteries every 15-20 minutes, and now, it broke, by itself.I say DON'T get it because it's going to take too long and it doesn't work as well.

Nail Trimming
4 Star Review   By Kaitybird on PETCO - Oct 25, 2010

We got this as we didn't believe that the regular trimmers would work. We adopted a 7 yr old min pin and she is VERY touchy about her paws, so it takes some coaxing and this is a good way to do it..

Wasted time and money
1 Star Review   By maxandshagsmom on PETCO - Sep 19, 2010

I have a Schnauzer/Yorkie mix that I used this on and was highly disappointed. I can't use the traditional method because my dog simply will not stand for it. So I tried this. His nail looked better... after 20+ minutes of use, but it still wasn't short enough. Then I realized I would have to do this 19 more times!!! By the time I started nail #2 he would tolerate it no more. It's too slow to be effective and the batteries died very quickly. I took him to the vet and they cut them with a similar (but better) trimmer all 20 nails in less than 5 minutes. Which made me realize how useless this product is.

Takes Awhile, but Worth It For the Price
5 Star Review   By BellasMother on PETCO - Sep 14, 2010

With today's economy, I'm always looking for way to cut down on costs and, because my house is all hardwood floors, one of my monthly costs is getting my Pitbull/cattledog mix's nails clipped and filed down. It usually costs me about $15/month to get her nails done, so when I saw the PediPaws Trimmer on sale for $12, the Savings light when on in my head. So far I've only used it a few times as I am still working on getting her comfortable with it, but honestly so far so good! As most other reviewers have noted, I'll admit that it does take a bit of time to do each paw, but when I consider how much I saved, not just at the time of purchase, but also in the long run, I think it is definately worth it. I saw some reviewers had mentioned the Trimmer not being powerful enough to trim their dogs' nails, and though this did worry me when I went to buy it, since using it, I haven't had any problem with that at all. I did notice that the Trimmer is supposed to have some sort of safety feature where if too much pressure is applied on the grinder/filer by the nail, it will slow down, and I wonder if those reviewers had just been applying too much pressure. At one point while using the Trimmer, I was trying to finish quickly as it was the last nail on the paw we were working on and she was doing really good, and I think I was applying too much pressure in my haste because I noticed that it had slowed down, but as soon as I eased up, it sped up again. All in all, I think its a great product with great savings.

Works for me.
4 Star Review   By Tenje on PETCO - Aug 2, 2010

The Pedipaws nail trimmer is the only thing I use to trim my medium sized dogs nails. I tried clippers but his nails are black and thick which makes it difficult to not cut into the quick. It does take awhile to trim his nails and I do remove the yellow plastic part for better maneuverability. I wouldn't recommend using on a larger dog as it would probably take forever. Overall I would recommend this to a friend.

PediPaws Nail trimmer
5 Star Review   By idiot on PETCO - May 24, 2010

My dog did not mind the noise but was unsure of the feeling at first. It took 2 refill disks to file down my dogs nails since they were quite overgrown. But this next one should last mauch longer. Made the nails very smooth and they were not rough or cracked like when the Vet cut them. For the first use I recommend all to get the refill disk pack with the trimmer so you have the number of disks you may need to file the first time.

So far, so good. As instructed, it is a good idea to introduce your pet to this device steps at a time. The motor noise and vibration of the filing stone on their nails can cause some anxiety for your pet to start with. However, the product works really well.

Bad for large dogs
2 Star Review   By Bebop on PETCO - Feb 4, 2010

I spent over an hour with my malamute trying to file her nails down and not because she fought with me. While she wasn't thrilled with the product, she only pulled away because she was uncomfortable. The sand paper part just wasn't doing the job. This would work as a file after you've clipped them, but if your dog as thick nails don't waste your money.

Don't Waste Your Money or Your Time!
1 Star Review   By srooney on PETCO - Dec 11, 2009

I have a Yorkshire Terrier, and he is fine with his getting his nails clipped the traditional way, so I thought why not try PediPaws?! Unfortunately, PediPaws takes FOREVER to even make a dent in his nails! I couldn't imagine anyone using this product to actually cut their dogs nails. If you only need it to trim them (and I mean a very MINIMAL trim) then PediPaws would work for you...if your looking to use this product to cut your dogs nails, don't waste your money or your time! Stick with the traditional way of cutting them!!! Using PediPaws is like using a nail file....worthless!!!

PediPaws trimmer
2 Star Review   By LoveGermanShepherds on PETCO - Dec 10, 2009

Well, I have to honest and say that I was disappointed with this tool. It operates off two C batteries. I have 2 German Shepherd pups with sharpe claws that seem to grow overnight. The trimmer was so weak, even with fresh batteries, that it would take forever to do them both. Trying to keep their attention is enough to worry about. It would be fine if it were a smaller breed. They did like the attention however.

Does the job :)
4 Star Review   By MorganLC on PETCO - Dec 10, 2009

I had seen mixed reviews on this and many knock-off products. Some say the tool is too loud when turned on, some say it doesn't file the nails at all, so when mine came in the mail I was ready for disappointment but still hopeful. I turned it on and slowly got my dog used to it being around as per the directions. I have a three year old boxer and she isn't skittish or startled by strange noises usually as long as you show her it's ok. She did very well with the noise around her to the point that I was even able to use it with her the first day after less than 10 minutes of getting her used to it. Just know it's not meant to clip your dogs nails, just to file them off AFTER you clip to get rid of those sharp edges, just like a human's nail file. My only concern is that the round filing attachment's may not last very long. But the attachments are also sold separately and you only really should be trimming your dogs nails once a month or so. I would recommend this product, but hope you can catch it on sale like I did.

OK for some dogs
4 Star Review   By PrurientFiend on PETCO - Dec 1, 2009

I got this to file and shape my 15lb maltipoo's nails. She does not like her nails being clipped with a traditional clipper, but seems ok with the pedipaw. My dog is not scared of loud noises (vacuum cleaners, hair dryers...), and doesn't mind her paws being touched. It does a good job of trimming, but would take forever if you actually needed to cut more than 1/3 off at a time. You really need to be careful with longer hairs at the paw so they don't get caught. If you maintained your dog's nails weekly, this might work for you.

Ewww... pet nails on hardwood floors
5 Star Review   By PorkyPooh on PETCO - Nov 13, 2009

My Rat Terrier enjoys free run of our home. We have a log staircase and hardwood floors. His nails can easily scratch and scar both. Simply cutting the nail with even the best clipper (Miller's Forge, in my opinion) his nails have sharp edges. A little finishing with PediPaws after trimming and his nails are rounded. My wood is spared. I do not use PediPaws to trim the nail's length, only shape the nail into a rounded edge. It's great!

1 Star Review   By BellaMomma on PETCO - Oct 30, 2009

I heard so many great things about this-- so i purchased it for my puppy-- well come to find out she was SCARED of it!! It is to noisy-- not like they portray it on tv-- and she wouldnt let me get near her paws with it--when it would start to whir she would whine and back as far away from me as possible-- so NO I would NOT get this again or reccommend it-- It looks great on TV and great for those who can use it-- but not for my puppy- she still hates me for it--

not so much
2 Star Review   By combs on PETCO - Oct 26, 2009

This product is good for dogs that are not skiddish and only need a maintenance nail cutting done. It takes too long to file each nail done. I would recommend using this product on nails that are already cut. Then just using this to file them down. But, my german shepherd mix prefers the regular nail cutter and it is faster with the normal nail cutter.

Finally got one!
5 Star Review   By OXMGR on PETCO - Oct 2, 2009

I was always sceptical about products advertised on TV but decided to give it a try. First thing to remember is patience and more patience. Just like it says on the package, all dogs are different. I introduced it to my Pomeranian by just turning it on and holding it in my hand. Immideatly, it got her attention. I admitt she was a bit scared at first. I only ended up doing couple of nails first time. You also have to find proper angle when you trim dog's nails otherwise file stumbles and comes to stop. So, it's not just your dog nails fault it doesnt turn out first time you try. I've noticed that second time was much easier, third- she was just sitting there like little lady at nail salon! One thing I did though is took off plastic cover of the end of it. It was easier to manuver that way and not hard to reach for small nails. Some reviews say that it doesnt work on large dogs. This might be partially true. One- i think taking plastic cap off the end will help as well as cutting actuall nail off just a bit before using trimmer. Two-If you never cut your dog nails before, this product will be worthless. I'd say it really works more or less like a trimmer, nail file. Nail feels a bit rough after trimming but after a couple of walks outside it becomes nice and smooth from concrete. I love it and think it's worth trying. After all, it's soooo much easier and stress free for pets! Good Luck!

Pedipaw is NO GOOD
1 Star Review   By RBB747 on PETCO - Aug 22, 2009

I literally just returned from the store with my new Pedipaw, and in my excitement I went straight to trimming my German Shepherd's nails. I wish I had taken the advice of the previous reviews I had read stating that this product doesn't work on larger dogs' nails. At first I was concerned that my dog's nails would not fit into the slot. That was not a problem. The problem, however, was just as the other reviews stated: The spinning filer stops moving with even the slightest bit of pressure. It is true that you can find a pressure point where it does not stop spinning, but then the file is doing absolutely no tangible trimming because you can't put hardly any pressure on it! In reality, and this is absolutely true, I would have to spend a good 15 minutes PER NAIL to make any headway. I gave up after 15 minutes with the first nail, and grabbed my clippers and had ALL the nails trimmed in only 5 minutes. To put it in perspective, if you walk your dog for 100 yards on pavement, you will have filed the dog's nails 10 times more than this product would. Save your money, and take your dog for a walk!

great tool
5 Star Review   By labbylane on PETCO - Apr 7, 2009

I have two labs, one 55 pounds and one 90 pounds. The PediPaws works great on the smaller dog; I've completely quit using clippers for her. On the bigger dog I need to use it once a week, or clip then use the PediPaws to smooth the edges. If you press too hard it will quit, so it's important to find the right touch. The sounds and vibration don't bother my dogs at all, in fact the bigger dog will almost doze off while I'm smoothing his nails. Not a perfect solution but so much better than clipping.

Updated dremell (what they use to use for show dog
2 Star Review   By catsread on PETCO - Mar 2, 2009

It does not work for cats (whom have smaller paws and shorter nails then dogs). If you have a small pawed animal then you can't get the nail close enough to make it the length you want. I thought that the vibrations would bother my animals more then it did.

Not for Medium to large dogs
1 Star Review   By RCMnTX on PETCO - Feb 13, 2009

We have given up on this already. We have 2 goldens, yellow lab and a malamute. We have not been able to trim the nails with this. Nails are to big for the opening, or the nail stops the band. Will go back to the manual trimmer or find one for something other than smaller pets. I would not waste my money on this!

Horrible! No Help!
1 Star Review   By lovemyPele on PETCO - Feb 13, 2009

I used this on my chihuahua, and he hated it! We sat there trying to trim his nails and it would take at least 2 minutes per nail, and you could tell it was painful. This was not a good product and a waste of money. The manual clippers are faster and can be just as safe, and I believe they are less painful.

Not for larger dogs
1 Star Review   By PJNevada on PETCO - Jan 29, 2009

It may work ok for a smaller animal, but for a dog the such as a Retriever or Shepherd, it is worthless. Sanding drum slows down and stops before hardly getting started. Even with smaller animals, the replacement cost of the sandpaper rings is expensive for what you get. A Dremel tool is probably a better solution.

PediPaws - TERRIBLE
1 Star Review   By GoddessJamie on PETCO - Jan 11, 2009

I guess I should've paid closer attention to the infomercials on this product to see if they only used it on smaller dogs who have smaller nails. I have a medium-sized Doberman/Lab mix and this thing does NOT work on her. As soon as you try to wear the nail down, the drum starts slowing down. There is not enough power in the motor. Plus, it's so loud (not to me, but to our dog) that it scares her and she shakes everytime. We get better, faster results using the clippers. This might be fine if you have a lap dog, but don't waste your money if you have a larger one.

it's taking quite a while to get used to using this tool on my great dane pup who already has huge nails. he sits patiently as i give him treats, but the nail file is very slow and it takes forever.

TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS!!!!

I have a Lhasa Apso and an English Setter. My Lhasa's nails always cracked and split, I didn't know what to do. Every time I took her to the vet they would take her in the back room because they knew her nails were going to bleed for awhile, sometimes I would wait for 20 minutes because her nails were bleeding. We have tried all sorts of clippers and nail trimmers with safety gadgets but they still split her nail. I got this as a Christmas gift and OH MY GOSH! I just have to say, WOW! First, follow the directions like they say. I didn't find it to be too loud at all. My dog is used to blowdryers and clippers so these were really quiet compared to that. They key that I didn't really get until I got to her 3rd leg was to set the nail down in the groove and that allows you to hold the Pedipaw much much easier. At first I was trying to put the nail right on the file and that of course did not work and would make any animal jump. This other way I did not have ANY trouble with at all. Of course at first my Lhasa did try to get away but I kept the treats and after 5-8 min. she was fine. My English Setter FREAKS OUT when we touch her nails, we have to clip them ONLY WHEN SHE IS SEDATED, ok? It is that bad. I got this, went through like they told us and tonight was just now able to do 1 foot, I am so excited! She is 9 and for years has had LONG nails that we can't trim on a regular basis-this product is a GODSEND! It does take a bit to get used to so if you buy it and can't figure it out the first 2-3 times, keep working at it, it will work GREAT! I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! 5 STARS!

Heaven Sent

I have 2 Jack Russel's and have always had a tough time clipping their nails. Otis wouldn't even let me go near him with the clippers and Lulu would let me get one paw done and then want it over with! The Pedi-paws is my savior! After acclimating them to the sound and vibration over a couple days, I could turn it on and they would immediately run over to me expecting a treat. I was able to do all 4 of Lulu's paws in 15 minutes...while she SLEPT in my lap. Otis was still a lil wary but he quickly realized it didn't hurt and I was able to do his in 10 minutes. The machine is not quiet, however it didn't wake up my niece sleeping in the next room. I agree with a previous poster that the head would be better if it was angled, but for my 2 jack's the overall size was just fine. I also had the same problem with the file head stopping..I think it's a safety measure. If the pedi-paws had more horsepower people could seriously hurt their pets. As long you don't press too hard the file head should spin smoothly...I noticed that when I pressed to hard, or when the nail got to the bottom of the opening in the orange cap, it stopped spinning. I don't know if I would recommend this for every dog but for me and Otis and Lulu, it was the best $20 I ever spent.

Lifesaver!
5 Star Review   By ItIsMe on PETCO - Dec 18, 2008

Our family has taken in many dog and cat rescues over the years. Currently we have 7 pugs, 2 huskies and 6 indoor/outdoor assorted cats. The PediPaws is easy to use, and has worked wonders keeping our pet's nails trimmed. With that many sets of paws running around, we were constantly getting scratched, and our carpet and furniture was getting destroyed. This has been the perfect solution for all our kids.

Not for big dogs
1 Star Review   By mvdm on PETCO - Dec 17, 2008

Purchased this as I also was scared to clip my dogs nails. I have a black lab and he was not scared of the noise however as soon as it touches his nail he feels the vibration and pulls away. He is way too big to hold down to do this. My husband and I did it together, he held him and I tried to file the nail, not so much! Maybe very small animals would be better.

A Good Buy
4 Star Review   By Kohlsmommy on PETCO - Dec 14, 2008

I am pretty happy with this product. It's not silent or even quiet like it advertises and my dogs still faught to get away from me. But I was able to get their nails fairly short and smooth with this tool. I've always been nervous using nail clippers and now I don't have to worry about that anymore. Overall, good product.
