My Scaredy Cat!
2 Star Review   By kopoyd on PETCO - Aug 5, 2008

I had an older model when my cat was a kitten, he and my other cat (now passed) used it fine. Now the model is much more improved except for the sound of the motor. My cat happened to be near when it scooped and now is afraid to use it, even though I have turned off the motor.

still some kinks to work out
3 Star Review   By petitpaws on PETCO - Jul 30, 2008

I have seven cats and this is my 5th littermaid. It is a necessity with multiple cats. It helps a lot, but many times it gets hung up and it needs to be manually cleaned.

good product with a few "bugs"
4 Star Review   By Robbi on PETCO - Jul 27, 2008

Basically, this is a real boon to catowners. Our cats do like it and use it well, and I have less to do to be sure their box is not disgusting! However, for the price paid it really should have the kabana (top) included because if you have meticulous and energetic coverers like we do, there will be litter everywhere. I think that the waste receptacle needs to be somewhat bigger too in order to really accomodate multiple (2) cat households as advertised in the details description of this item.

Overpriced, poor quality, and doesn't work
1 Star Review   PETCO

This item is way overpriced for the poor quality and poor usefulness. After assembly, the automatic self-cleaner unit lasted exactly one day before it started to malfunction. It will not turn off and now runs continually if the unit is left on. I completely disassembled and cleaned the litter box, cleaned the sensors, and reassembled, and it the problem continues. Now I have to turn it on and off by hand, so it is far from automatic. The instructions for fixing this problem are not adequate. I have followed them completely and there is nothing blocking the cleaning unit and there is nothing behind it (like built up litter) preventing it from traveling all the way back. But as soon as it goes to the back, it starts forward again. It refuses to stop. Another flaw I noticed is that there is a gap between the litter pan and where the Waste Receptacles attach. When the sweeper pushes the waste into the receptacle, there is still a lot of loose litter along with the clumped waste. This loose litter falls down in the gap and is under the litter box. You only notice it when you remove the waste receptacle or the step. To prevent this, I've had to put plastic wrap between the litter pan and the receptacle, so that loose litter has no where to go. Finally, and this may just be unique to my situation, but I have two cats and they fill the waste receptacle daily. Maybe they just urinate a lot, but the litter clumps are very large and quickly fill the receptacle to the point it will not close anymore when the cleaning unit returns to the back of the box. If I had to replace the receptacles daily it would be very, very expensive. What I have ended up doing is manually digging out the urine and fecal clumps, then running the self-cleaner to get out the smaller clumps which I have missed. That way I only have to replace the receptacle every week. For over $150 I now have a litter box which I still have to clean by hand and dispose of 99% of the waste product manually. Something that I doing before with my $20 litter box. WORST purchase I have made in a long, long time.

Awesome Litter Box
5 Star Review   By lvsnupe on PETCO - May 1, 2008

This litter box is great. You don't have to replace the litter compartment each time it is full. We empty it and reuse it. It keeps the room smelling fresh, and basically the only thing we need to do is to add fresh litter when it reaches below the add line, and empty the litter compartment. It is large enough for multiple cats because we have two. Great investment!

New Model is Much Improved
5 Star Review   By donnandycat on PETCO - Apr 30, 2008

There is almost no odor, just for the 10 min wait for the comb to sweep the waste into the receptical and the brief moment the receptical is open. The cats love to use it and run from other parts of the house to watch the comb sweep. The motor is a little loud and interferes with the TV in the same room. The removable comb and tray are perfect upgrades. Makes this chore so much easier considering we have 4 kittens and 1 cat. I had one of the original LitterMaids years ago when they first came out and I liked it except the motor was very loud and it constantly broke down. I replaced it 3 times. Finally I gave up and went back to the typical litter box. The comb & tray was not removable therefore cleaning it was a huge chore. This one is a lot easier. I also have asthma and this LitterMaid is making me feel much better.

Wonderful Litter Box!!
5 Star Review   By lreimers on PETCO - Mar 14, 2008

We recently purchased this litter box and are very pleased with it. This is the first automatic litter box that we have owned and we have intentions on purchasing another. Our cat's are totally fascinated with it. One uses it and then a few minutes later all three run in to watch it. It's really kind of funny! Anyway, I feel that overall we received an excellent product at a reasonable price.

5 Star Review   By straymoma on PETCO - Feb 29, 2008

We love our Mega kitty box. We purchased the Mega because we have multiple cats (3). It has been great, however I would recommend it for two cats. Any more than that and you need to clean it by the afternoon. My Mother also purchased the Mega and it has been awesome for her. She is blind and this easy to clean box has helped her tremendously.

HUGE Let down!!
1 Star Review   By Sandals94 on PETCO - Feb 20, 2008

I have had this product about 2 ½ weeks now and have hesitated to write this review with the hopes I would change my mind about it. However, it simply just is not everything I expected!! The first problem: This box is much larger than a typical cat litter box, so it takes up a large amount of room. You need to make sure it is near an outlet to plug it in. The cord is not real long so it created a challenge. Forget the battery option. The batteries lasted about 2 days!! Next problem: It is messy… the litter ends up everywhere!! I’ve been using the “Best Cat Litter” and it tracks everywhere!! The litter also gets down underneath the box where the litter recepticle is located. More mess! Another problem: the automatic scooping litter feature doesn’t get all of the clumps into the litter recepticle. I am hand scooping the box AND changing the old litter recepticle at least every other day and vacuuming daily around it!! Additional problem!: The lid to the litter recepticle doesn't always stay on the lid of the box where it should be, so when the box is automatically scooping it ends up on top of the lid instead of inside the recepticle. BIG let down!! Makes for a real mess and a lot of work!! The good news!: When it works properly it does keep the odor down! Overall: I love the idea of this product, but overall it's a dream that simply isn't going to happen. It isn’t worth the money and the hassle. I am in this box as much as I was in the classic litter box cleaning it up. I am sure it would be better with only one cat, but still more work than it should be, especially for the cost of this product!!

Good product - older to newer model comparisons
5 Star Review   By SmokeyMomma on PETCO - Feb 19, 2008

If you are used to the older model, this 1 is a bit more flimsy in terms of being able to pull it out of it's hiding place - pops apart easier since there are so many separate parts - where that didn't happen with the older model -- trade off though, the rake doesn't get hung up as often as the older model where if you happened to overfill or CAT got energetic in the kicking up of a mound, the older model would hang and run continuously trying to clear the blockage. This rake assembly is MUCH EASIER to keep clean!!! and the motor runs much more quietly - I don't even need to use the sleep timer feature because I can't hear it in the other room - the older model used to wake me up at times because the motor was so loud. I don't care for the tabby bits holding the lid in place as they are too difficult to get the ledge into sometimes. All-in-all, happy with the newer version - the pros and cons between the older and newer model come out about even.

Not happy with
2 Star Review   By angellover on PETCO - Feb 10, 2008

I am not real happy with this litter box. I'm still scooping everyday as the stuff sticks to the bottom. I even sprayed it with no-stick cooking spray like the book said, that didn't work either.

Happy cats, happy family.
5 Star Review   By SundayDory on PETCO - Feb 3, 2008

We have been using our new litermaid for about 10 days now and it works great. It does just what it says it will do, now, we just simply remove the grocery store bag we placed in the waste receptacle, throw it out, and put in a new one, simple, clean and easy. The one and only thing I could say could use some work, is the charcoal bag they give you to help with the odor in the waste receptacle. It sticks with a sticky backing to the lid of the waste receptacle, and it does not stay, it eventually falls into the used litter area in the waste receptacle, could use a better attachment system, other than that, love this item, wish I could have gotten one years ago, really could have used it. Very glad to have on now though.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!
1 Star Review   By chelli on PETCO - Jan 20, 2008

Our 1st on stopped working after 1 week. We called Petco and they shipped us another one and the 2nd one keeps cycling 5-7 times after the cat gets out of the box. The motor is made of plastic and breaks. We now are returning our 2nd one and plan on sticking with the old fashion way of scooping a litter box. The idea of self cleaning sounds nice, except I was mainting this one just as much as a $20 litter box. The only good thing out of this is how nice and understanding Petco was!!

continuous $ investment, poor design, bad instrux
1 Star Review   By Isabellescompanion on PETCO - Nov 17, 2006

Bought item on out-of-state friend's recommendation - didn't realize I would have to continue buying disposable waste receptacles at $1.50 each. Why not design a permanent receptacle one could line with a couple of those ubiquitous plastic shopping bags? Also, receptacles don't snap snugly into the unit, nor do they tuck under a lip or ledge, so it is easy for grains of litter to spill out. Starter supply of disposable waste receptacles were all bent & unusable. Final slap: instructions on attaching side guards to receptacle unit were inadequate & I had to struggle for 15 minutes to figure out how they snap on. Why isn't the receptacle unit one solid piece instead of six? Also, please realize the ONLY thing this device will save is 75% of your scooping. You will still have to: scoop smaller clumps that the rake misses, change litter periodically, add litter periodically, bring the litter to the trash can, wash out the pan periodically, and clean the rake as needed. For $100 plus ongoing expense, what is this really saving?

GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DESIGN!
1 Star Review   By KittyCrazy5 on PETCO - Nov 17, 2006

I have 5 cats and work full-time besides competing in bodybuilding, so I have little time for cleaning litterboxes! I have had 6 littermaids and only had ot replace two that I had for 3 years each so it was worth the investment. HOWEVER, I did not realize the new design had a metal rake and had acutally a very small area for litter since the overall size was the same, the raking mechanism and odor control (that stopped working after 1 month) takes up most of the inside litterbox space. The rake does not do a very good job, if you have to move the contraption the whole underneath litterbox come out adn the entire overall new design litterally STINKS! I sure hope I can find the older models out there because they work GREAT! Instead of buying the pricey recepticles I just lien them with my plastic grocery bags and pull them out, makes cleanup much easier and cheaper! Find the older models and you'll be very happy.

Unhappy and Frustrated!
1 Star Review   By BooHoo on PETCO - Nov 14, 2006

Ok, we had the original Littermaid Cat Box for 3 years when it recently broke. I recommended it to everyone I knew, as it saved us time, ugly aroma and hassle. But it then broke...and I had to replace it. There was no doubt I wouldn't buy another one...so I did. Sadly I found out REAL quick it was a new design...much to my disappointment. From the get go, it has NOT worked, making me very frustrated and sad my original ever broke!!! The rake is a joke!!! This is one instance where NEW and IMPROVED is so untrue...what a waste of a $100!!! I was so confident it would work (why wouldn't I think so since the last one did beautifully) that I threw away the box on the FIRST day...the NEXT day I realized the piece of junk I got...so I can't even return it for my money back!!!

Elite is NOT Elite
1 Star Review   By WRWolfe on PETCO - Nov 14, 2006

To our friends at Littermaid... if this is supposed to be better than the previous models, you missed the mark. Our first Elite lasted us less than a week before it totally stopped functioning. We returned it and the second has lasted but I must admit I am less than happy with the Elite Model. I find it noisier than the old Littermaid Mega and does not do as good of a job. Constant jams and litter falls between the box and waste receptacle, making more mess than just scooping a standard litterbox myself. If this is improved, please go back to the old model. We used the old model for years trouble-free... the new Elite model should go back to the drawing board.

Worst product I've ever bought
1 Star Review   By Fn2bpal on PETCO - Nov 6, 2006

HORRIBLE PRODUCT (LME5500). I'd have given it a zero if I could have. I should have listened to all the negative reviews about what went wrong with this product. Because I had the original littermaid automatic litter box, model #LM900, I thought what could possibly be that wrong with the new one. You'd think they would have improved it. WRONG! After a little over a month having to hand scoop droppings because the rake gets stuck I figured it was not going to get any better. I would highly recommend you NOT buy this product. It's cheaply made compared to the original. The section where you put the container doesn't even fit well. I thought because the rake was different, it'd be much better. Well, it doesn't rake very well and makes a clicking sound when it gets stuck. It won't even go back once it becomes stuck like the original one does, it just stays in one stop clicking until you clear it's path. It's almost as if we own the non-automatic one as much as we have to scoop the droppings out by hand.

5 Star Review   By SarahSmiles on PETCO - Nov 1, 2006

Thank you..thank you...I love it. I purchased this almost 2 yrs ago, after taking in my 2nd stray cat. I just couldn’t handle cleaning out the box everyday, also didn’t like them making attempts to find a clean spot to go. You made it easy to change my opionion from NO WAY WILL I HAVE A LITTER BOX IN MY HOUSE.....to loving it. With a bad back and arthritis, (or even if I were perfectly healthy)...I found this to be an answer to my prayers. After 2 yrs..And 2 cats...I think I need another one though...as it seems to be a temperamental lately. I have no complaints. Also, I put grocery bags in the containers for easy disposal and less expense....easy cleaning. Thank you, again...Sarah ..Smiles...P.S. I have recommended this to everyone I know who has a cat..Even perfect strangers in the stores...Also to friends who have pet Rabbits...lol...I’m so shy!!..nottttttttt..

This litterbox is completely AWESOME
5 Star Review   By 3catlover on PETCO - Oct 26, 2006

Just got our new Littermaid Elite Mega litterbox. It's been in place for most of the day today, and I have to say that it's been the most awesome litterbox I've seen yet. By no means does it work magic - you will always still have to scoop some clumps and caked up litter from the bottom of the pan, but this litterbox cuts down on the amount of that scooping by a HUGE percentage. We have 3 cats, without an automatic litterbox, I would be cleaning litter twice a day. I do notice a difference with the ionic air purifier, and the rake works EXACTLY like it is supposed to work when the waste disposal bin is installed like the instructions tell you. I've read several reviews where people complained that the waste is left just outside of the bin - this is because the bin isn't installed under the blue tabs - just like the instructions say! This is by far the best litterbox invention yet. We had an older model from LitterMaid before - this is VASTLY better! I recommend it to anyone who needs an automatic litterbox, and make sure you read your instructions when you get it to experience the least amount of frustrations!

Not so "New & Improved"
1 Star Review   By EVinOregon on PETCO - Oct 17, 2006

Incredibly dissappointed. Do not waste your money on the 'New and Improved' Elite model. The rake does not dip low enough to actually pick up the pieces of the clumped litter so it accumulates at both ends of the box. I was the owner (and very satisfied) with the old version of the LitterMaid Automated Litterbox. LitterMaid's new and improved model doesn't work ... save your money and keep scooping manually.

Gaaaaaaaah
2 Star Review   By Brootsiesmom on PETCO - Oct 12, 2006

I received the LItterMaid Elite as a birthday gift from friends. I've only had it about 12 hours and am disappointed with it. I wish I could return it and get my friends money back for them. It worked very well the first time there was waste in the pan. It has since not picked up the urine clumps worth a darn. I'm scooping out the urine clumps as much as I was with a regular pan. I've also found if the cats aren't within the sensors range (especially the smaller cat) it won't pick up the clumps of urine or poo. The rake has consistently raked over the turds and urine clumps. The idea of this system is great. Too bad it doesn't work worth a darn.

I love this product!!!
4 Star Review   By Lemmndropp on PETCO - Oct 10, 2006

I admit this litterbox is not without its flaws, but the LitterMaid Elite overall is an awsome product! It is the second we have owned. First, we have four good sized cats, so without this box I'd be scooping all the live-long day! Second, we have the box in our kitchen, and there is virtually no odor from the box at all. I do have to monitor it and pull clumps of poo from the rake some times, and there is litter on the floor under the box between the receptical and the main part of the box, but these are small things to me. I just sweep the litter up each time I empty the pan, which is every other day at our house. The LitterMaid Elite makes my life much easier, and keeps my cats happy too!

It works for a while...
2 Star Review   By Mrobin02 on PETCO - Oct 10, 2006

It worked like a champion at first for my two cats. But the motor quit not too long after I got the third cat. Warranty replaced it. I upgraded to the Mega. It does not get the smaller pieces. I gets stuck and it is loud. Right after the warranty went out, the motor gets stuck and the arm sits at the top of the boxs and hangs there!!! I just gave up and went back to scooping. It is probably fine for one cat. But multiple cats...just get multiple litter boxes.

4 Star Review   By cynders on PETCO - Oct 6, 2006

i have had my littermaid for a year and it is still working fine. I have found that Petco's Natures Miricle cat litter works the best it isn't rough on the motor and it scoops away all debris from my kittys. I have 11 cats and no problems with it at all. I am investing in the newer model for out on my lani when my kittys go outside. I would recomend this product to anyone.

1 Star Review   By Mona06 on PETCO - Sep 30, 2006

I agree with the other two reviews. Litermaid had a good product in it's basic model. The new Elite is louder, doesn't clean as well, and always leaves residual in front of the trash receptacle, not in it. I too, will be taking back the new one and purchasing the older version.

Just scoop it yourself!
1 Star Review   By Jenn27 on PETCO - Sep 19, 2006

I have had nothing but trouble with all the littermaid boxes I have bought. The first one got a hole in it between the receptale and the litterpan so all the litter fell through and it had a hard time scooping up anything my cat put in it, so we bought the elite and again this was BAD. it could not even pick up my cat's urine!!!!! We always had to help it go throught the litter and i complained to the company and they said i must have installed it wrong and sent me directions. I did have the box installed right and then the best part happened--The wheels broke off the rack so it could not pick up any more litter!!!! Don't buy unless you like to help the rake go through everything your cat does.

It works fine
4 Star Review   By jbw328 on PETCO - Sep 16, 2006

Aside from being pretty noisy, it does what its sposed to do. Its not perfect and maintenance free but come on, thats asking a bit much. Its better than scooping cat poo every day. And bear in mind with all these bad reviews - most people who are happy with the product wont bother writing a review - but if you're frustrated and unhappy you *want* to gripe - at least I do! And by the way - putting it together wasn't hard at all. I certainly didnt need a man to do it for me, its quite simple. And yeah - you're still gonna get litter on your floor. I dont think there's anyway to prevent that. Its part of owning a cat.

Ok with me
4 Star Review   By rebe1968 on PETCO - Sep 6, 2006

First putting the thing together was a nightmare and the instructions are hard to follow and not very helpful. The tabs in the waste boxes are hard to put in and you have to make sure they a perfect or you will have poo on your floor. But on the other hand I like the metal rake better than the plastic one on the older unit I had I can remove it and clean it easier and it does reduce the smell by 99 % in my home ,I do have to scoop some of the smaller pieces of poo but it's still allot better than a standard box I really like my littermaid, but I am saving for a litter Robot.

Hard To Assemble
2 Star Review   By catdogfish on PETCO - Sep 6, 2006

I'd love to have been able to assemble this product and use it... One of the parts that was supposed to come in one piece came in three pieces (no, it was not broken, it was not assembled by the factory - I guess). I had a heck of a time trying to get it together , then decided hubby can do it when he gets home... I continued deciphering the instructions and got everything else together, but there is a part where the pan that holds the poo, and the pan that holds the litter go together with tabs, and that part was warped... so they did not form a seal (that keeps litter from seeping through that crack to the floor, I presume). Anyways I am returning this item as soon as I get a chance to go the 'the big town' PS I rated it 2 because it probably have been a good unit without assembly issues...

Why can't anyone make an automatic box that works?
1 Star Review   By Jeanne on PETCO - Sep 4, 2006

I first bought a Littermaid Mega automatic box about 2 years ago. It worked fairly well for the first couple months, and then the motor quit. The unit was replaced under the 1-year warranty, but the new box never worked very well, and that motor totally gave out just after the warranty expired. Then, 2 weeks ago, I bought the Littermaid Mega Elite, a supposedly improved model with a more powerful motor and better rake. I expected this model to work better than the previous model, but that has not been the case. This box has been a huge disappointment right from day 1. The new, wider rake tines don't pick up smaller pieces of waste and totally miss anything that gets under or behind the rake or anything sticking to the bottom of the box. It also drops much of the waste before reaching the waste storage unit. As a result of the poor scooping action, frequent manual scooping of the entire box is required. The motor isn't strong enough to pick up medium or large waste, resulting in the unit getting stuck and shutting down many times a day. Each time this happens, the rake must be manually cleaned and all large pieces must be manually scooped before resetting the machine. The slanting entrance allows huge amounts of litter to be scratched & tracked out of the box, requiring frequent sweeping or vacuuming of the area around the box. All in all, this new automatic box requires much more manual cleaning and maintenance than a regular manual box. I plan to return mine for a refund and go back to using a manual litter box. If any of Littermaid's competitors made a better box, I'd buy it, but none of the automatic boxes get good reviews. So why can't someone make an automatic box that works properly??

1 Star Review   By CatDaddy on PETCO - Sep 4, 2006

I recently became a 2 cat household, so I decided to get a larger Litter Maid. I had the old model in a 1 cat size, and it worked pretty well. Choosing the New Improved Elite Mega has been a mega mistake. First, the plastic recepticals are the same size, so a bigger pan makes no difference. Second, I don't smell the ionic air filter does a thing. Third, the bottom pan and top do not snap together, so the new improved metal rake just goes right over the waste. What waste it gets, it drops on the floor because the receptical is not held in place by the tray tabs. I'm tossing the Elite Mega and going back to the original. I think Litter Maid should do the same.

Not at all worth the money
1 Star Review   By catmama on PETCO - Sep 4, 2006

This was the second LitterMaid box I had purchased. The first one I loved and my cats loved. It lasted almost 3 years and did a great job of keeping the litter box clean. Then I purchased the elite model, and was VERY disappointed. The prongs of the scoop did not reach down into the litter properly, the waste did not get dumped into the recepticle properly, and the motor burned out after only 3 months. It had to be aligned exactly right for the prongs to reach at all into the litter, and any little bump knocked it out of alignment.

DO NOT BUY
1 Star Review   By Jackson99 on PETCO - Sep 3, 2006

I HAVE HAD THIS AUTO LITTER FOR 1YR. HERE ARE THE PROBLEMS. 1. YOU CAN ONLY PUT ABOUT 2IN OF LITTER IN IT AND IF YOU PUT A BIT TOO MUCH, THE RAKE KEEPS RAKING BACK AND FORTH. 2. BECAUSE OF THE SHALLOW LITTER, IF YOU HAVE A CAT THAT URINATES ALOT, IT WILL CAKE ON THE BOTTOM. 3. THE RAKE DOESN'T GET ALL OF THE CLUMPS. YOU WILL SPEND TIME GETTING OUT PIECES OF CLUMPS WITH A SCOOPER. 4. UNLESS YOU BY 3 GAL PLASTIC BAGS TO PUT IN THE RECEPTICLE, YOU WILL SPEND ALOT OF MONEY ON THE SPECIAL PLASTIC RECEPTICLES. 5. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I FOUND FECES SMASHED INTO THE RAKE. THIS THING STINKS!!! I JUST PURCHASED THE LITTER ROBOT. I HAVEN'T RECEIVED IT YET. I'VE READ GREAT REVIEWS ON IT THOUGH.

They're Scared of It
2 Star Review   By MFBD on PETCO - Sep 2, 2006

I haven't heard how loud this new model is, but I have the Mega previous model. I have 3 cats and one uses it religiously but the other 2 are scared of it. I have heard that even the manufacturer knows that once the cats become frightened of the loud sound of the rake they will refuse to use it. I took away the regular litterbox and they started crapping on my guest bed. They will do their business all over the house before they will use the Littermaid. So now I still have a regular litterbox that I have to scoop, it's either that or clean it off the furniture, carpet, etc. The product would be fine, the one who uses it loves it and I think it works great and does what they say it will, but people need to know they are taking a gamble by buying it because you may be one of the unlucky ones with a freaked out cat who refuses to use it.

WORSE than conventional litter boxes
1 Star Review   By 4KittyMommy on PETCO - Sep 1, 2006

We have purchased four Littermaid boxes in the past. Although eventually each one died, their cause of death was simply overuse. Each put in a solid year of nearly trouble-free service before the motor or cables start to die. We were still happy enough with the product to buy another (and another and another). This time ? our fifth Littermaid box ? we received the new improved product even though we specifically ordered the old one (because of the bad reviews we'd read about the new one). Rather than send it back, we decided to give it a try. And it has tested our nerves on a daily basis ever since. The first problem is the amount of time it took to assemble. Also a problem is the reduced litter capacity of the box itself. The original Littermaid was a downward adjustment in terms of the volume of litter it held, but the cats managed and the raking system kept up with it just fine. However, this combination of an even smaller litter pan and the new raking system completely dooms it to failure. The box is designed in such a way that you must push the edge of the waste receptacle under hard plastic tabs on the box itself. Although that may seem like a good idea to keep it secure, it?s actually quite difficult as the tabs on the box are themselves enmeshed into the hard plastic underside. The first time this area gets soiled (which is the first time it runs), the idea of using your fingertips or nails to secure it becomes revolting. The top also must be locked under plastic tabs, although they sometimes do not hold which results in the rake dumping a load ON TOP of the lid. Hey, Littermaid figured out a way to sell more receptacles! Because of this design, I can no longer re-use receptacles when they are still clean -- because they are only clean when they are new! Despite all the effort they put into creating this (bad) locking design, the rake pulls the receptacle out of the tabs as it opens the cover. This not only undermines the integrity of the system, it causes a pile of soiled litter to accumulate on the floor underneath it. It also frequently knocks the cover out of place. Surely, they could not have quality tested this product in a real environment, with real cats. Speaking of the rake, it's a nightmare. Its round metal tines slice clumps horizontally, leaving pancake-like landmines which can only be removed by manually scraping them off the bottom of the box. It also takes skewered pieces of feces back with it, trapping them behind and on the rake in its resting position. These two problems mean that the box NEVER gets clean. It was soiled (in numerous places) the very first time it ran. We spend more time on this box trying to keep it clean than we did our old conventional boxes. As for the new features, the timer is useless. The accumulation that occurs in nine hours is nearly impossible for the rake to handle when it reawakens. And the Ionic Air Cleaner is also useless, as nothing can cover the smell of clumps that have been sliced in half by the rake and are exposed because the cover doesn?t close securely. This is the most amazing waste of money, effort, and feline frustration (the cats hate it) we've ever endured. And if Littermaid actually put a mailing address on their website, they'd be getting a strongly worded letter from us.

Do not buy!
1 Star Review   By DisappointedNYC on PETCO - Aug 19, 2006

My old Littermaind Mega just died after 3 years. While it wasn't perfect, I was more than prepared to go buy another. However, I bought the new Elite model & it is anything but. 1) The rake begins too quckly & the litter hasn't had enough time to clump the urnie. 2) The rake only pushes the litter to the edge of the recepticle... s sometimes the litter falls in, but more often it just falls back into the box. 3) Finally, the rake and the motorized arm are 2 separate pieces & the rake is designed to slide up or down based on the contour of the pan underneath as it get closer to the receptacle... in theory so that it stays at the bottom of the pan to catch all the litter. After 1 week, the slide mechanism remains stuck up in the air after pushing the litter so that it returns to the reset positin w/ the rake in the air and does not go down into the litter when it's time to rake again. So it just glides over the top of the litter doing nothing unless I tap the rake back into place. 3 striks & it's out. The previous model/design was far superior. Do not buy the Elite model until these issues are fixed.

LitterMaid does not make life easy...
1 Star Review   By NHJK on PETCO - Aug 12, 2006

Well, we bought the LitterMaid Elite with the Ionic Air Cleaner for our cat. She has no problem using it, which is good. The waste recepticles are a good idea, but I'm not sure if the air purifier really works. What doesn't work is the raking. Instead of picking, or scooping, the litter in the recepticles, it just pushes the litter along. It never really picks anything up and we end scooping the box ourselves. So much for making everyone's life easy. Don't waste your time or money. Just go buy a normal litter box.

Disappointed and Peeved
1 Star Review   By Firaga on PETCO - Aug 12, 2006

This was the worst investment. My cats are very regular and having to change this litter tray every other day defeats the purpose of having it. I called it quits when I had to disassemble the thing to clean the bricks out of the rake and the reinforced concrete off the bottom of the pan. Mind you this is just after 6 days. That clumping litter is a joke. Please save yourself the hassle. I wish I would have read these reviews before I purchased it.

auto cat boxs are a p----r
1 Star Review   By catsdontlike on PETCO - Aug 9, 2006

My girl friend and I bought the Littermaid Elite Mega self cleaning cat box in May of 06. We have 2 cats and they do plenty of business, so we tried this product. It worked great for the first month and a half. We had to move from one apartment to another and need to keep the cat box covered at the new place, so said the landlord. We tried to purchase the kitty cabana for this box on the Litter Maid website. At the time you could only get the cabana with the purchase of a new box. You could not buy it seperatly. So we bought the one for the basic box(cat tent). Once installed, our cats thought it was a regular cat box and they urinated everywhere. I had found this out when i had to clean the rake and scrap the bottom of the box because it smelled. Then i found that the clock on the litter maid was continusly counting and could not be stopped. It's now July and the air scensor that is supposed to go off for about 10 mins. doesn't work cause the cats urine is all soaked in it. This was not worth the $160 and change that we spent on it. This is something they should have thought of when designing this product, cats can be messy. The cats were less messy with the regular litter box.

I bought this product because my brother had bought one and liked his. I could not put more than an inch of litter in it. It wouldnot run right if I did. It worked ok for a few months. After it would go half way and get stuck and just click away. I tried cleaning it, putting pam on the rake and floor of the box. nothing worked. I did not save my box so I couldn't get my money back. Don't buy this product. You will eventually be disapointed too.

Waste of money
2 Star Review   By normamalc on PETCO - Aug 7, 2006

I gave this piece of garbage two stars only because it controls odors better than the original. The problem is it doesn't rake the waste all the way into the container. It moves the waste to the edge, opens the waste continer and moves back, leaving the clump in the litter. I wish I had saved my money.

Bad product, worse customer service
1 Star Review   By Beans on PETCO - Aug 3, 2006

When we bought this product for our two cats, I was thrilled - help in maintaining the litter box! The motor was loud, but I was willing to accept it for a clean box every day. The littermaid made it 8 months and died. Oh well - maybe we got a bad one - that's what warranties are for, right? After two extremely frustraing calls with Littermaid - where the people are rude, and have no concept of customer service, I found out that to activate the warranty, I had to send them money and paperwork and the battery compartment cover (?!) before they would do anything to fix the unit. Overall, they anticipated that it would take them a month to get me a working box. For a person with more patient cats, this might be fine, but we ended up going back to a manual box, and you know what? Between having to unstick the rake and empty the small receptable boxes, between the cost of the receptacles and the carbon filters (that don't stay put anyway), we're actually speding LESS time and so much less money maintaining the litter box ourselves!

I think I got a bad one
3 Star Review   By Deborah on PETCO - Aug 2, 2006

I had been pondering the purchase of a Littermaid for a few years since I despise kitty litter clean-up. I recently got a new puppy that is way too fond of Kitty Roca so I felt I had to purchase one of these for the times I was gone and couldn't be there to get the treasures before the dog found them. Well, this was not the relief I was looking for and I returned the item 2 weeks after I purchased it. The problem with my Littermaid (Mega Elite model) is the rakes wouldn't go back down after it raked. It has to lift up to open the container for depositing the clumps and the rake would just stay at that height. When I called Littermaid, the rep said she hadn't heard of that issue yet so maybe mine was just a fluke. The best alternative I have seen is some kind of drum automatic litterbox you can find only on the internet but it is $300 plus almost $50 for shipping. If you find it doesn't work for your cat since it is a confining design and won't work for older, bigger or skittish cats, it will be another $50 to return it so if you try it and don't like it, you are out around $100 for that item so there is no way I will even try that expensive one. I know some people personally that swear by these so it is worth trying. Petco and Littermaid readily accept the return so you are out nothing if you don't like it.

I'm Impressed....
4 Star Review   By Rhonda on PETCO - Aug 2, 2006

We are full-time RV'ers and this litter box is ideal for our lifestyle. I never have to worry about the litter box being dirty if we have company. Also, there is no ordor associated with it as the soiled litter is contained in a covered container. Our motorhome is 40' but with a regular litter box you would have to keep it clean a couple times a day. With Littermate it does it for you shortly after it is used.

DONT BUY THIS CAT BOX
1 Star Review   By honestreviewer on PETCO - Jul 25, 2006

I have had 2 of these boxes in the last 2 years. The first one broke after about 11 months. They replaced it with a new one. The second one broke after a year and 3 weeks. They wouldn't replace, the warranty is one year. The same thing happened to the second one. The gears inside that pull the rake sounded like they gave out. While it operated it worked ok. Reduces the need to check the box everyday but you still need to check every few days. Also my cat went in the same place so the clumps all piled up on one side so I had to move the clumps to the opposite side of the recepticle. I will be trying a different brand this time.

Okay product, but...
4 Star Review   By Gommie on PETCO - Jul 15, 2006

I am actually please with this litter box. It is not 100% perfect, but it is a good start. My major complaints are that the motor for the scooper is not powerful enough. Secondly, the waste reservoir is too small. As an engineer, I can fix the later, but the motor problem is an issue. I have one very large cat, and the quantity of urine he generates at one sitting can overwhelm the motor as it tries to scoop it into the waste container. My smaller cat has no issues and is amused by unit.

5 Star Review   PETCO

I purchased the LitterMaid Mega Elite 2 weeks ago and have been thrilled. I have 2 cats who have adapted to this litterbox easily. I found the instructions easy to follow. The best feature is the lack of odor in my house and the ease of just dumping the waste recepticle a couple of times each day rather than scooping the litter box a couple of times each day.

Save your money
1 Star Review   PETCO

I bought the Elite model 4 days ago. I am returning it today. First, the assembly instructions were not very clear because there was no clear illustration of the parts and the photos in the instructions were close-ups so you couldn't always identify the part they were talking about. I was VERY careful to see that all parts, especially the waste receptacle were properly assembled. It just never worked properly. The fecal matter caught in the rake. The rake blades are so far apart that they leave a lot of stuff behind. Finally, after one day of use, the lid to the waste receptacle failed to open and I came home to a pile of fecal matter and urine clumps sitting on top of the receptacle. The cat had tried to bury them sending litter all over the place. I just finished disassembling and washing it. I am returning it today.

Not worth the $$$
2 Star Review   PETCO

I am so dissapointed with this self-cleaning litter box. There were some advantages: because it cleans up right away, it reduces odors significantly. Although my cat wasn't scared of it at all, he has the habit of peeing on one side of the box, so the receptacle would quickly fill up on that side, while the other side was empty. The main thing I hated is that the timer raked before the liquids completely clumped, and it would brake them apart and get stuck to them. Because of that, it actually took me longer to clean this box than a traditional litter box: between changing the receptacle (it smells awful when its full), cleaning the floor (no hood), scraping the stuff stuck to the rake, brushing off all the little nooks and corners, and having to pick up small clumps anyway. I absolutely hated it, and I'm going to get our old litter box back.

Don't waste your money
1 Star Review   PETCO

I bought the older basic model about 6 years ago. It always worked perfectly until the motor died last week. I went ahead and purchased the big mega, deluxe, elite, all the bells and whistles model (Model LME9000) and it never did the basic function of raking the waste into the receptacle. It rakes okay, but when it lifts up the recepticle lid, the waste is dropped back into the box behind the rake - OR jams the waste into the rim that holds the collection container. Makes a real mess! You might as well just keep a plain litterbox and rake it yourself. (Which, to me, defeats the entire purpose of having one of these.) It was a great idea to include the ionic cleaner and timer and all (You don't really need them) but they shouldn't have messed with the raking funtion. I have two adult cats and we want the other older model back.

NEWER MODEL JUST AS GOOD (if not better!)
4 Star Review   PETCO

I have owned quite a few electric waste scoopers in my day and I would have to say overall this is the best. I bought the first Littermaid when it came out and was pretty satisfied except after a couple of years it broke. Then I got the Purrforma one and what a stinky pain that one was! So i got rid of it and got this one. I was worried because some reviewers had said that it didn't work as well as the older model, etc. The only major problem i've noticed is that it is very loud. But well worth the noise for those few seconds! There is no smell at all (maybe because of the ionic air cleaner). The only other minor problems were that it's very hard to assemble (poor directions), and if you buy the cabana cover it's hard to pull out the box to clean - it sticks. It is a bit more flimsy than the older model, and the rake does leave little crumbles behind, as other reviews have said. Reguardless, it is still WAY better than any of the others, mainly because it just boxes up the waste and all you do is pop it out and pop another one in (5 seconds!)and that container, along with the ionic cleaner does a GREAT job of sealing off the smell. Thank goodness for this product!!!

Get the LitterMaid Basic version!!! Not the Elite!
1 Star Review   PETCO

I had my past Basic model for 3.5 years till the motor died. I got a the new and improved Elite model in mid-May 2006. I've had it for 30 days and am throwing the $110 piece of junk away. I just ordered the Basic version again from Petco.com. The Basic model is SO much better than the Elite model, who cares if it doesn't have a timer or built in ionizer. The Basic model cleans the litter much much better with each pass, doesn't spill nearly as much litter through the gap in the container and box, where it dumps. And the plastic forks on the auto-cleaner on the Basic version works much better than the metal ones on the Elite model. Don't waste your money on the Elite, get the Basic model.

I have to play with it to work a few times, and back to having to clean the litter box the old fashion way. I would never tell anyone to purchase this item. And I am sure this will not be posted for others to read

Very dissatisfied
1 Star Review   PETCO

I previously had the basic littermaid automatic model but the motor died after about 10 months of use. I decided to purchase the Elite model but I am not happy with it all. As other reviews have said, it is extremely loud and doesn't rake the clumped litter out well. Despite following the directions, the unit often pushes litter out the sides of the waste receptacle. I have to refill the litter almost everyday because there is so much litter beside and underneath the litterbox. The previous Basic model was much better and I don't reccommend buying this one. Between buying the litterbox, the litter, and the kitty kabana (which is very cheaply made) I have wasted over $130. This product is more hassle than help.

Disappointing
2 Star Review   PETCO

I really wish I had read these reviews before purchasing the new elite model. I have had 2 of the older model Littermaids and when the last one died I purchased this new model. It is terrible. Not only are there few if any improvements to the older model, but many things are worse! With the old model there was a 10 minute gap after the cat left the box before the rake began its cycle. On this one the rake begins its cycle just a minute or two after the cat leaves the box, which is not enough time for the waste, particularly the urine, to harden and clump. The waste receptacles do not fit well and it is a real chore trying to insert them into the provided space. If you don't get them inserted just right the rake will dump the waste back into the litter box or it will end up on the floor underneath the box. The older models required little assembly but this one has to be put together using very confusing and hard to follow instructions. Also aggravating is the fact that this box does not fit into the Littermaid privacy tent I purchased for my older model! Apparently you are expected to buy this new kitty cabana they are selling. Why buy that when I have a perfectly good tent purchased for the old one. I would recommend purchasing the older model if you can find one. It isn't perfect--the plastic fingers on the rake get bent up easily and the motor doesn't last as long as I'd like--but it's superior to this one.

LitterMaid Elite Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Bo
1 Star Review   PETCO

Nowhere near as goods as its predecessor. It doesn't clamp together like the regular Mega and comes apart too easily, the rake is not as efficient as the regular Mega, and it is flimsier than the regular Mega. Finally, even with a battery back-up, should you need to stop the unit during its cycle, you have to reset the timer. Littermaid really put out a disappointing product with this.

Waste of Money!!!
3 Star Review   PETCO

At first this litter box was great! Less litter used, less time, etc...that was until in BROKE! Everyone I've talked to and now myself has had these VERY expensive litter boxes break in less than a year. If you are willing to keep buying more and more of these then it's great, if you are like me and don't have that kind of money don't bother.

Terrible Product!
1 Star Review   PETCO

I have had three other Littermaid's over the past 4 years and have been reasonably satisfied with them. When my Mega developed problems with the sensors I went to Petco and bought the newly released Elite model. What a mistake! The rake does not scoop it just travels vertically thru the litter and wastes huge amounts of expensive Worlds Best Litter. It is even NOISIER than previous models. Cat feces and urine soaked litter miss the waste receptacle and wind up on the carpet in front of the unit. And lots of smaller clumps are missed by the rake and foul the box causing me to manually scoop it once a day. Litter piles up on the floor under the waste receptacle because it doesn't fit well. DO NOT BUY THIS NEW UNIT! Littermaid's customer service is horrid as well.

A little better, but more worse than the old one
3 Star Review   PETCO

First off, let me just put it out that having a littermaid as opposed to a standard litterbox is great. With two large busy cats, the smells are mostly gone, box cleanup is way less frequent, and the chances that my cats may go outside of the box because it is too dirty are virtually eliminated. Clean up is not the most pleasant experience, but considering it is only once a weekish, and similar to a standard box, still better. Now, the details... I owned one of the originals, and it lasted me three years, so I know the basics... Don't over fill the litter!!!!! that is probably what prematurely kills litter maids as it increases the amount of work the motor does tremendously. You can also use standard plastic grocery bags in the bin, and never have to buy the costly plastic bins. The goods of the elite 5500 model: as long as the waste holder door is closed, there is virtually no unpleasant smell at all... I believe the ionizer works well. The removable rake is handy for cleaning, and the included sifter rake cleaning tool is great. The Bads: This model is significantly more flimsy than the original, and took forever to assemble. Major cleaning is very complicated as the latches of the old model are not there, now the entire box must be disassembled... this can be very unpleasant considering what this thing handles. The rake design works differntly, most likely to improve motor life by simplifying the moving parts.... well now it does not dump all the waste into the bin, and often what does not fall into the bin gets trapped behind the rake, dragging much of the litter to the rake side of the box... this is a major regression of the box design, and should have been remedied during design testing. And a trivial thing, there is a clock that does not save the time if you cycle power with the switch makes it tedious if you want to use the sleep function sometimes. Overall, Littermaids are great for your catbox hassles, but this new elite model is not really an improvement over the old one, it is a bit worse... don't buy the elite models, get the standard one and don't overfill it, and it will last a long time.

Less time at the box
4 Star Review   PETCO

All my cats use these boxes and love them. As kittens they like to hop in the box and then back out and they wait for it to scoop the box and then they pounce the rack. It's really cute. These boxes eliminate a lot of the care you need to do with traditional boxes. I do recomend the cabanas because the cat do track a lot of litter out if you don't have one. Plus the new boxes are kind of loud, the cabanas kind of cut down on the noise. This is a must buy even if you only have one cat because of how much it cuts back on the smell. I have 4 cats and three boxes and you would never know when you walk into my house.

We love this!
5 Star Review   PETCO

We bought the Littermaid elite mega pan about two weeks ago and we absolutely love it. With two cats I am finding that I clean out the pan about once every 4 or 5 days. It is much more hygenic for both me and my kitties. It took them about a day to get used to but now I think they enjoy watching the metal rake do its work. The Ionic cleaner definately does its job too in that it keeps the pan smelling nice :) I would definately buy this pan again if I needed to. its nice and big.. not too loud and very clean for me to handle.. it makes it sooo easy to clean the pan now.... ( that is a job I really hate to do) My kitties love it too! meow! :)

LitterMaid - Don't be a maid to your litter box!
5 Star Review   PETCO

We have 3 cats and you can not tell by any odors in our house. No more odors & no more scooping! This machine is easy, 10 minutes after the cat leaves it automatically runs the rack thru the litter and deposits it into the sealed disposable Waste Receptacle. We empty the receptacle once a week. No more worries while on vacation, our cat sitter just has to feed them. I used to always feel bad asking someone to clean out the box, so now I don't have to.

I GOT A LEMON
2 Star Review   PETCO

I was so excited when I got my LitterMaid Elite litter box....it was a cat owner's dream. However, after less than two days of operation, the motor started stalling out and the rake would get hung up, which made the motor LOUD. It would happen at all hours of the day and night. I was afraid to use it when I wasn't home (which defeats the purpose of it) for fear of the motor burning up and causing a fire. The worst part was trying to get help from the LitterMaid customer service reps. In LONG explanations, I told them exactly what it was doing/not doing, all I'd tried to remedy the situation, etc. Their very delayed response was a generic answer that did not address my problems. I would consider purchasing another one (I returned the first one for a refund) because I may have just gotten hold of a rare defective one and they might not all malfunction like this one did. I love this idea, but wish I'd have had success with mine. Having a multi-cat household is MESSY with conventional litter boxes. I indicated that I would buy one again because it only gives choices of YES and NO. Mine is actually a MAYBE, if I get info from other LitterMaid owners who are happy with theirs.

LitterMaid Elite Mega Automatic Self-Cleaning Litt
5 Star Review   PETCO

This is a great product - not only do the cats love to go into a cleaner area to do their business - but I don't have to constantly clean the litter box anymore! On this elite mega model, the sleep timer keeps it off at night so the owners aren't disturbed from their sleep, but the air cleaner continues to cycle on and off periodically to keep the odor down until it comes back on in the morning. I usually take the rake tool and loosen the litter a bit on the bottom before it starts back up the next day since it hasn't been raked through all night and might have settled, and then I can go off to work without a worry. I empty the waste receptacles when full and put another empty one back in. No mess, no fuss and no smell - the cats are happier and so am I! I HIGHLY recommend this product!

We had TWO of them
4 Star Review   PETCO

They lasted over two years each. My only complaints are that the waste boxes are spendy (but can be emptied and reused), and the activation timer apparently is variable - sometimes 5 minutes after use, sometimes 10 minutes. If we moved to a place that let me put the boxes in better locations for the power plug, I would have replaced them with the same when the motors finally died.

The litter Box that does't STINK!
5 Star Review   PETCO

The new LitterMaid Elite Mega Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box is really a blessing. We have three rescue cats: Katie, Margaret and Sweetie. They can STINK! The new LitterMaid box that has a built-in Ionic Air Cleaner has helped to solve that problem. Now our family and friends come in and don't say, Smells like cats in here. We can enjoy our cats and we do not have to scoop-poop.

Great for owners of multiple cats!
4 Star Review   PETCO

Okay, I agree that purchasing this product isn't the end of ALL your litter woes, but it SIGNIFICANTLY lowers the time each day you have to deal with the litterbox. I have 2 cats and with a standard litter box I was cleaning the box 2-3 times per day, dealing with the odor of cleaning and the box in general and constantly emptying and cleaning the box to neutralize the odor. This product is not perfect, but now all I do is check the box daily to make sure the receptacle isn't full and clean errant clumps out of the rake. Much better than before. Now the problems I've encountered are 1) even if you use premium litter, little clumps are missed by the rake, so you may want to still scoop occasionally to get the remnants and 2) if you put too much litter in (even to the fill level) the rake will just go back and forth if kitty has moved the litter around. That being said, I think this is a GREAT invention and has made my life less consumed by the litter box. My cats adjusted well to it, but they were about 5 months old when I purchased it. There is no product that will make you never have to deal with a litter box, and this is the best it's going to get in my opinion. I would recommend it to anyone!

Still room for improvement
3 Star Review   PETCO

Last year I purchased the Purforma Liter box. I have two large males, both are 18 lbs so their urine puddles are large. The problem I had with the Purfoma was that if my cat tinkled near the rake it would malfunction - therefore I returned it. I just received my LitterMaid Elite Mega (for my large cats) 4 days ago. There are pros and cons. I like that I can go on a 2 day vacation and most of the litter will be tucked away. What I don't like is 1) it's very noisy 2) the rake seems to be a bit on the short side so smaller turds get left behind 3) the timer waits 10 minutes to 'scoop' however often the urine or feces is not 'dry' enough and gets stuck all over the rake. I plan to use it for another few days to make a final decision to keep the noisy and does not always scoop it all machine or to go back to the old fashioned 'scoop it yourself' method. I don't know if I'd buy the product again, but the option maybe wasn't there so I said yes. I'm still undecided - if I was an inventor I'd have several modifications!

Too many flaws
1 Star Review   PETCO

Once my basic litterbox broke after 3 years, I bought the elite. This one is horrible. I'm having to do the work it should be doing. If you have cats, definately by an automated litterbox, but buy the basic one, not this one.

Very disappointed
1 Star Review   PETCO

As an owner of an older model LitterMaid, I was extremely disappointed in this product. The motor was louder, the rake left most of the clumps in the pan, and my cat, who was accustomed to the older LitterMaid, was terrified of this one. I ended up returning this and re-purchasing the older model.

LitterMaid Mega Disaster
1 Star Review   PETCO

Over the past couple years I have purchased two (2) LitterMaid Mega self-cleaning litter boxes. Both failed shortly after the warranty period! The manufacturer told me both times that nothing could be done to help because the units are NOT repairable! With both units failing shortly AFTER the warranty expired, it makes me a bit leary. Now I have purchased a Petmate Purforma and hope it lasts longer. So far I find it to be of better design than the LitterMaid product. I would NEVER buy a third LitterMaid unit!

Older version is better
3 Star Review   By barbnolastname on PETCO - Apr 30, 2006

I bought this new elite one thinking it would be a huge improvement over the older version. I love the design of it, the litter does not get stuck on the same track that the rake rolls on. But that seems to be the only plus. On the minus side, the waste gets stuck behind the metal rake and you have to take it off everyday to get it unstuck. Its VERY NOISY. They say its quieter but thats not the case at all! Plus all the litter seems to pile up on 1 side of the box so you have to even it out everyday. I just cleaned mine up and I'm taking it back to the store today and I'm going back to the older version, it was much easier to take care of.

Its definitely improved, but still has flaws
3 Star Review   PETCO

i love the idea of not having to scoop every few hours and this is perfect for that reason! However, if there is a large clump of urine sometimes the scooping claw either get's stuck or skims right through the urine leaving a million little pieces to be picked up later. Sometimes it activates before the urine can properly harden. My second problem with the product was the mold that grew in the little waste tray. Even if I changed it every other day, on hot humid days it would be full of mold. I guess that didn't hurt anyone, but I am a neat freak so I didn't like it. I ended up cleaning out my litter pan and selling it for regular pans.

OWNED BY TWO CATS
5 Star Review   PETCO

I BOUGHT OUR FIRST AND ONLY LITTERMAID IN SUMMER 2000. AND JUST TODAY, APRIL 15, 2006, I ACCIDENTLY CUT THE ELECTRICAL WIRE. (OR IT WOULD STILL BE WORKING.) IT IS THE BEST APPLIANCE I HAVE EVER OWNED. AND MY TWO CATS WILL AGREE WITH ME. IT HAS MOVED ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN THE BACK SEAT OF MY CAR AND MOVED IN AND OUT OF SEVERAL HOMES. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT, I WAS OWNED BY FOUR CATS. THREE, WHO WERE ELDERLY. THEY DIDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS NEW- FANGLED GADGIT. ( AND YOU KNOW HOW FUSSY CATS CAN BE?) THEY TOOK TO IT LIKE IT WAS THE THING TO DO. AND WHEN WE GOT OUR NEW BABY, HE TOOK TO IT AND HAS NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT EITHER. IT HAS JUST KEPT RIGHT ON WORKING. IT HAS LASTED LONGER THAN I EVER DREAMED IT WOULD. AND WE JUST LOVE IT! THEY (AND I ) LOVE THE FACT THAT THE LITTER STAYS CLEAN AND READY TO USE AT ALL TIMES. THEY HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT OR REFUSED TO USE IT... BECAUSE THE LITTERMAID KEEPS ITSELF CLEAN. AND BETTER YET, I DON'T HAVE TO RUN IN EVERY TIME TO SHOVEL THE GIFT! WHAT A PERFECTLY WONDERFUL INVENTION! I AM PURCHASING ANOTHER ONE TODAY. AND I COULDN'T BE MORE PLEASED. I LIKE THE IDEA THAT THEY HAVE IMPROVED THE RAKE FROM PLASTIC TO METAL AND THAT THE OVER ALL SIZE IS LARGER. WE CAN HARDLY WAIT TO GET OUR NEW LITTERMAID. THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR LIVES SO MUCH EASIER. AND FOR THE CONVENIENCE! YOU HAVE A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE! --SINCERELY, ALL OF US REXCATS
