So useful!
5 Star Review   By TheNiceFishLady on PETCO - Mar 12, 2012

I bought this after reading so many positive reviews, and I have to add mine. I've used this herbal remedy several times in my 33-gallon freshwater aquarium, whenever the fish seem to be swimming oddly or when fins start to look a little shredded. Of course, I do a partial water change first, then take out the carbon, then add the MelaFix. It smells good, which is amazing for any aquarium product. It doesn't cloud the water or turn it a funky color--also amazing. And the fish really seem to respond well in a very short time. I keep a bottle on hand at all times now.

Saved my Betta
5 Star Review   By KatMays379 on PETCO - Sep 1, 2011

A little while ago, I left my Betta with a friend for a few weeks while I moved and got some things sorted out. They swore to me that they'd do all of the water changes and such, but when I got him back to find he had the worst case of Pop-eye I had ever seen, they admitted they had skipped the last 2 weeks. I initially used this stuff because it was the only stuff I had lying around, but in hind sight it probably saved his life. As soon as I got him home I did a 70% water change, lowered the water level from 10 gallons to 5 gallons (he was having a problem getting to the top to breathe), and then followed the dosage instructions on the back of the bottle. Within 24 hours I noticed a change in my Betta's attitude (he was moving more, eating again, so on), and within 48 Hours the swelling was going away. 7 days of treatment and he was right as rain! I kept up dosages for another week after I did a 40% water change, and then i carried on with normal 25-35% water changes every week. I now swear by this stuff and have an extra bottle as back up and for friends who might have issues with their fish. I can't promise that this will save your fish, but I can tell you that it certainly will help to some degree,

Marine Depot
Do NOT treat your display tank
3 Star Review   By Dan on Marine Depot - May 11, 2011

This stuff works, BUT I would not recommend treating your display tanks with it. 1) This stuff smells really strong. So the room will smell really, really bad for as long as you use it (7 days). 2) This stuff creates a lot of bubbles so you can't run the skimmer while using it. I lost one coral and one fish because of it. The coral died because the water quality deteriorated dramatically when using this. I used this 3 weeks ago and made two 30% water changes and I still can't run my skimmer. I even bought another skimmer and am trying that one right now. After 3 days break in the new skimmer also creates way too many bubbles. I will make another 30-50% water change this weekend and hopefully get rid of any remaining medication in the water. Other then that it really works. It did heal one of my fish who had cuts/infections. But I would higly recommend using a quarantine tank if you have one. I will not use this again on my display tank.

Poor Quality Med.
1 Star Review   By koilover78 on PETCO - Mar 6, 2011

I used this with Pimafix on one of my Koi that had developed a slight case of Saprolengia fungus. I seperated the infected fish into another tank and after 3 days of treatment, the fungus seamed to be feeding off the Melafix and Pimafix, growing in size and reproducing on other parts of my fish. I did a 75% water change and used a different product that eliminated the fungus with 24 hours. I do not recommend this product as it will cause your fish to loose their appetite and does not kill fungus as fast as other comercially known products.

Worked
3 Star Review   By BettaMommy on PETCO - Feb 1, 2011

I used this in conjunction with Pima Fix and it worked some on my male betta and not at all on my female betta. I guess it depends on the fish and their reaction to the medication.

Great Product
5 Star Review   By Maternal1 on PETCO - Aug 21, 2010

Excellent product for what it is intended for. I would say that if you do not get results from this product, you are most likely dealing with a different diagnosis and should do further research for your fish. NOTE: Healthy fish will respond faster to this (and any) medication. If you have a fish friend that is not responding or healing as fast as others, they may have a more serious underlying weakness. Three words.... Watch, watch, watch and inspect them daily.

Glad I found this!
5 Star Review   By overinhawaii on PETCO - Jul 21, 2010

My 9yr old clown loaches developed fin rot and this was the best treatment ever! I've lost some fish with other products before and was hesitant using something new. I read about Melafix and how good results most have gotten plus the comments were from fish pros. So I decided to try it and glad I did. It has a strong smell and some slight foaming but after the 7th treatment you do a 20% water change and the water turns back normal.

Works
5 Star Review   By Thagirion on PETCO - Jun 23, 2010

I got a bottle of this because my black Mollies were getting cloudy eyes. I medicated them for the seven days like it said and they recovered beautifully. It didn't hurt my tadpoles either. It has a very strong smell but that's to be expected of medicine. I highly recommend it.

Worked Great
5 Star Review   By SEAN on PetStore.com - Jan 14, 2010

I accidently purchased the large container of this, and I have a 35 gallon tank. Needless to say using 1/2 a teaspoon of extra strength, I'll be set for a couple decades! I had a case of Cotton Eye on one of my fish after 4 days dosing with this stuff it disapeared and it's been 1 month since I dosed and it has not come back.

Miracle Potion!
5 Star Review   By CapriciousFish on PETCO - Nov 29, 2009

I do a lot of research on my pet products before I purchase them, and so I chose this product based on previous reviews when my goldfish started to look a bit on the sickly side. It got so bad, he would sit in a corner of his tank at the bottom and the only indication that he was alive was the fact that he was sitting right-side-up. I gave him a dose of medicine, and by the next morning he was actually swimming around again. Things seemed to take a turn for the worse though... his eyes were filling with blood, he had a sore on his side probably from running into something because he obviously could no longer see, he wasn't eating, and he seemed to have no control of his balance or orientation. I thought for sure I was going to lose him but I kept giving him the medicine- it says for sick fish continue dosage for 7 days. By day 5 there was little improvement, but I didn't give up. And now I'm happy to say after 7 days he is completely normal, he's eating, and his eyes are clearing up. I will continue to reduce his dosage and ween him off until I'm sure he is okay. The cap has no sort of dosage cup, so you either have to get one or eyeball it. But I love this stuff! So for any skeptical users... I thought for sure my fish was at the end of his rope, but he is now healthy and happy!

Bacterial Fin rot
5 Star Review   By Silverr on PETCO - May 18, 2009

I was impressed with this product. My cory cats had a mild case of fin rot and after 7 days of treatment, they were back to being very active and the fins are on the mend. I will be using melafix for a day or two after adding new fish also. Its not a cure all but it worked great for my particular situation. Great product.

Melafix/ Pimafix
5 Star Review   By CHARRISSE ROBERTSON on Marine Depot - Nov 18, 2008

I used both melafix and Pimafix together to treat velevt and cloudy eye on my 75g african cichlid tank. I lost one fish prior to treatment. After the first day of treatment, there was foaming and alot of cloudy water and definalty the fresh clean scent of Melaleuca throughout the house. My fish were QUITE unhappy about the treatment, BUT the velvet and cloudy eye improved within the first two treatments. We are on the 5th day now and I can tell you its 100% cleared up, my fish are adapting to the cloud and foam (picky little bugars) and we have had not one more loss of life.. This stuff works, and it doesnt destroy the bio you already have going in your filters - a major plus.

Great for bettas!
5 Star Review   By Niko on PETCO - Oct 20, 2008

I got two betta fish from a Petco store on two separate occasions that were returned because owners had put them together with other bettas and they ended up half eaten (don't do this, people!!!). ;) Anyway, I used MELAFIX intead of BETTAFIX due to the severity of their conditions. There was drastic improvement (fin regrowth, wound healing) in less than two weeks. If I didn't see it, I wouldn't believe it.

Works great!
4 Star Review   By BlueTongueSkink on PETCO - May 12, 2008

I never really had a problem with my fancy Oranda's but suddenly it seemed all of them were stricken at the same time. I love how this melafix works for several types of ailments and got my fish right as rain! Just make sure to never over medicate, that can make your fish worse or die. It has no dyes in it, which kept my water clear unlike some other brands that would dye everything!

I used this on my porcupine puffer after he got sucked into a pump. It immediately helped him recover and grow skin back over his spines. It didn't affect my other fish or water quality, and I love the fact that it's all natural too.

I Can't Believe It!
5 Star Review   By JBoniface on PETCO - Feb 6, 2008

This was the best remedy ever! I have four goldfish, and when I added the fourth, Roxanne, my big guy beat her up really badly. Quickly I moved her into my hospital tank, since Sherbert has a habit of harrassing anyone who's sick, and she showed up with a nasty bacterial infection the next morning. My sales associate recommended Melafix, and within a few hours most of the white fluffy stuff was gone off her sides and tail. Then I could see the missing scales and the abrasions. It's been just over a week, and almost all the scales have come back! This stuff is amazing.

4 Star Review   By CPT on Marine Depot - Jan 1, 2008

I had/have a rather extreme case of fin rot on a rabbit fish. After about 4 treatments I can say its definitely not gotten any worse and I would like to believe that I'm seeing some re-growth. What I would add to that is that the tank water has filled the room with a delicious tea scent.
