Makita Angle Grinder
5 Star Review   By BunkerBuster on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased this to replace a cheap grinder from HF that broke after two hours of use. As with all my other Makita tools this grinder is well made and works great. I used it for making strait cuts in concrete. The paddle switch has a lock down that works nice. One feature that made the sale was you can use cupped or flat grinding and cutting wheels, unlike cheaper brands that are only for cupped grinding wheels. I have learned my lesson and will pay a few more bucks for quality tools. It is very annoying having to stop a job to replace a tool in the middle of a job. Makita is simply one of the best.

This Is A BEAST!
5 Star Review   Home Depot    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have other Makita power tools, and to say the very least, they hold up and last. You may pay a little more but you get a bang for the buck.I bought the 9557PB,they had lesser expensive ones but the guy at Home depot explained them all to me.The cheaper ones are great for simple home projects, but the better ones have higher speed motors and really are work horses. This one is simply a beast.I cut through metal studs with no effort.Got to be careful with the grinding wheel,it will saw through metal if your not paying attention. It's that powerful.I highly recommend this and I bought mine at Home depot for a GREAT buy!!!

Perfect for multiple uses
5 Star Review   By Sarkazein on Home Depot - Apr 15, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I've been using this grinder instead of a wet saw to cut odd angles in both marble and porcelain tiles. (I use the Brutus manual tile cutter for straight cuts, which is fantastic and almost dust free.) This angle grinder offers very good control and plenty of power, but without being overwhelming. I haven't shattered or chipped a tile yet. You'll want to use a diamond blade for this, but the Avanti blades (around $10 at HD) are fantastic and hold up well. You'll also want to clamp the tile to something (workbench, sawhorse, or anything relatively stable) as there is plenty of vibration. I've also managed to smooth out the edges of some sill tile with ease. It wasn't sharp, really, but only one side was angled and we wanted both sides angled. I was able to reproduce the same result with about five minutes of grinding, slowly and smoothly. It's a little more expensive than others, but you get the optional handle (which will screw into either side, or can be stored separately), and it's easy to handle. My only recommendation would be to bring it up to full speed (a second or two) before touching whatever material you're grinding, and remove the grinder from whatever you're grinding before letting go of the paddle grip. If you try to start or stop with the tool on the material already, it will slide across it in a hurry.

Another great Makita Product
5 Star Review   By Azrock on Home Depot - Apr 7, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Ive used DeWalts, Metabos, Milwaukees and other Makitas. For the price I couldn't be happier with this grinder. Its been used for grinding concrete, cutting off metal, cutting metal I beams and it just powers through it. Im also a big fan of the paddle switch over the thumb switch

gears in the head didnt make it 6 mo before they were striped. bought 2 dewalt grinders before this with same result. looks to me like if i was being to hard on them- the moters or brushes would wear out. SO- it seems like they just use soft metals for their gears. IVE HAD BETTER LUCK WITH $15 GRINDERS FROM HARBOR FRIEGHT!

Best grinder I've ever owned!!!
5 Star Review   By Kidred on Home Depot - Sep 6, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This grinder holds up and perfoms well. I use it for steel siding, valley tin, ceramic tile, cement board, patio brick, ect. ect... And there was a blade for every use in the kit to start out.I like the paddle switch as well over the switch on the side. As a remodeling contractor, I sometimes use it daily and have went through several in the last 15 years. This one is 2 yrs old now and still performs like the day I bought it. I blow the dust out of mine with the compressor at the end of the day when I cut cement board, or other dusty material to prevent over heating. When this one breaks or calls it quits, I will defenitley buy another one!

Makita 9557PB 4-1/2 Angle Grinder
4 Star Review   By member keyonman - Nov 11, 2008

Strengths: Easy to grip and comfortable in size and weight. The paddle switch is great for its safety feature. This is a smooth and quiet machine with plenty of power to spare.

Weakness: Does not come with a case.

I bought this for a minor project where I need to install granite tiles. It works perfectly for the odd cuts that I had to make although I had to purchase a diamond blade for the project.
