Light weight, works great
5 Star Review   By SanDiegosink on Home Depot - May 28, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It's light and feature packed. I replace a 20+ year old Black and Decker with this one. The old one worked okay - it cut but wasn't the easiest to use. This new one has features making it quite easy to use. First there's the depth adjustment - large lever makes for easy grip to tighten and loosen and there's a scale showing the depth of cut adjustment. The scale is a nice feature. The level for angle adjustment is also large and easy to grip for tightening/loosening. Angle adjustment scale is easy to read and seems to be reasonably accurate. Certainly accurate enough for framing. Base plate is large and stable. I mounted a Kreg rip fence onto the base and it's very stable and accurate for long, straight cuts.

This circular saw has a lot of power. It is better with the 60 tooth diablo blade.

Super Saw
5 Star Review   By COSteve on Home Depot - Oct 9, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Best circular saw I've owned. Cuts through wood like it's butter. Have used the saw on dry and wet wood, 2x4,4x4, and thin sheets including ripping. Saw is very well balanced and easy to adjust. Not the cheapest saw on the shelves, but you get what you pay for in this case.

i used this saw right out of the box after checking it for any loose parts (safety ) and works great and was surprised how powerful it is and easy to use and handle. used it to cut 2x4 and plywood perfect cuts for a small table. GREAT SAW ! would like to get sliding miter saw next and probably a makita

I'm a female, and the only thing I wish...is it were lighter. But all the lighter brands, didn't seem as quality. Makita remains my favorite brand in tools!!

Great saw, easy to use, smooth cutting, easy to see line, excellent sawdust removal system
4 Star Review   By RockGuy on Home Depot - Dec 22, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I'm building a 20x24 workshop, my first. My dad's old craftsman, 6-1/2 in. saw is OK, but older than I am. I opted for the lighter weight Magnesium - great choice. It's easy to see the line when near the end of the board; no more guessing. And the sawdust removal system is great - the saw blows it downward away from your eyes. Not very quiet thought; recommend plugs or muffs. Use eye protection too. Shaft lock location inconvenient when changing blades. Allen wench needs a longer handle for us long fingered guys, especially when wearing gloves. Good product.

Great except...
5 Star Review   By mlilli33 on Home Depot - Jan 22, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I loved this saw. It is so well balanced, quiet, easy to use, easy to read and adjust, cuts great, the light is actually very very useful, no brake and ball bearing construction = long life. It also has a well intentioned dust blowing feature that blows dust up your nose, into your eyes, all over your face. You may hold your saw differently, but it definiately did not work for me. deal breaker. bought the milwaukee which is a great saw for 50 bucks less and has much better vision of the blade with the tilted front handle. It does not have the small details nailed like the makita and may or may not last as long, but won several pro tool reviews and I can see why

First and Last!
5 Star Review   By Niksoap on Home Depot - Oct 27, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is the first circular saw I've ever used, and I had no idea how great it is until I used some other that belonged to friends. Wow! I couldn't believe how cumbersome and difficult their saws were to use just for common cuts in one-bys! I had clearly been spoiled by my Makita Mag! Also, the light is great for those last few minutes when you're trying to get another couple cuts off before the sun goes down!

Pleased Customer
5 Star Review   By Spud54 on Home Depot - Jul 21, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I was really pleased with this circular saw. This was an impulse buy for me, but I have not regretted it. I have always appreciated the quality of Makita tools. This one is no exception. I got home and pulled it out of the box and was expecting to make some adjustments to get it set right at 90 degrees, but I made a test cut and it was perfectly square. This may not be important to some, but I need more percise cuts than a framer might. The light was something I really didn't notice until I plugged it in, it is a good feature but not something that would be a major selling point for me. It is powerful enough to handle any job I use it for. I have never had any problems with it. I would recommend this saw to anyone. It may be a little more expensive. For me the extra money paid for the extra quality.

good saw if you don't want a worm drive
5 Star Review   By polecat on Home Depot - Mar 14, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

bought this saw a year ago for home/hobby use. debated between worm and direct drive and went for lighter weight in the end. if you want a great saw and don't want the weight of a worm drive, this is it. a very good tool overall. features and weight attracted me to it particulary detent seetings for common bevels. "rip fence" is junk like all of them on this type of tool. don't expect it to rip like a table saw without a lot of measureing and clamping, but if you take the time to set it up it will make extremely clean precise cuts with the right blade. the 24T blade it comes with is good for framing but a little rough on decent wood. For plywood and pine i put a 60T diablo fine finish on it and it cuts very smooth. dust blower and light make it more useful than some other circulars. seems a little pricey, almost as much as the worm drives. if i was going to do it again i think i'd spend anothe 30 dollars and 3 lbs and go with a worm drive. sort of user's preference but it seems like they're easier to cut a straight line with and feel more natural in the hand.
