Decent with few issues
4 Star Review   By AbsolutTalent on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013

After doing over 300 sqft 3/4" oak, I must say this is a good value for the price. You do/should tighten the screws holding the interchangable baseplate (mine were slightly loose and after the first 3 clip of nails they cased the gun to not sit properly causing a nail to sink through the face). My two biggest issues with this nailer though, is the handle. Its just a rubber slip-on grip which Ive found needs to be unrolled and re-rolled because it starts to bunch up, come out of place, and come off every so often. And the mallet it came with. The rubber is softer than usual and if you use it to "place" the wood flooring, and by place I mean "beat the crud outta the flooring to get it into place", then it starts to split and fray. Besides those two issues, this is still a great nailer

Best nailer for the money
5 Star Review   By Robert on Home Depot - May 14, 2013

Just got done laying 400 sq ft of 3/4" birch. Never had a jam. You've got to watch for mis-hits, though most of the time, the nail still went in far enough. However, even in tight places, you can still get enough on it to make it pop. I've got another 600 sq ft to go and I have no problem relying on this nailer. And for the price, well, it's equivalent to 2 weekly rentals or about 5 daily rentals. If you've got a lot of floor to do and you're only a weekend warrior, you'll save a ton of money buying this nailer instead of renting.

this product is well worth the price
5 Star Review   By JT666 on Home Depot - May 2, 2013

I have a 370 square foot (2 room) project to do and since time is a issue on completion of this I decided it was cheaper to buy a nailer rather than rent one. for the price this thing rocks ! I finished almost 3/4 of 1 room last weekend and went thru 1 box of 1000 L nails already and not 1 problem with this gun

This is a great product and value for the cost.
5 Star Review   By newtooluser on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2013

This product provides the versatility for 3 types of blind nailing applications. Instruction manual was helpful but some portions could be explained more clearly. Like other reviews, the importance of using pneumatic tool oil regularly will prevent misfire, jams of the plunger due to dryness. Once oiled there were no problems with the plunger. Experienced only one nail jam (using "t" cleats). Overall, this product was easy to use and performed well. I'd reccomend this product to others.

Don't be afraid of DYI hardwood flooring!
5 Star Review   By BigPike on Home Depot - Apr 8, 2013

I'm so glad I decided to purchase rather than rent a floor nailer, it allowed me to work at my own pace and schedule. The nailer worked flawlessly the entire project, never misfired or jammed which I had heard could be an issue with floor nailers.Drove all the nails perfectly at pressures ranging from 100 down to 80 psi so the compressor did not need to cycle that often.

Very impressed!
5 Star Review   By RiverFish on Home Depot - Apr 7, 2013

I went out on a limb and bought this Numax floor stapler because it has such good reviews. I have zero regrets! This thing works like a champ. I just finished about 500sf of solid 3/4 red oak with no problems whatsoever. I had 800sf total and did the first 300sf with the floor stapler Home Depot rents for $32 for 24hrs. I could tell no difference, and I didn't have to worry about getting it back on time. I could also use the same 1 1/2" Bostitch staples I was using with the Home Depot rental (good thing cause I bought a case). With the wood I have left over I think I'll knock out the walk in closet. I own my own floor stapler! Smart purchase.

Good overall flooring nailer for the basic DIY'er
5 Star Review   By 22Vue22 on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2013

This 3-in-1 flooring nailer and stapler performs as advertised. I purchased it to complete a headboard project where I used expensive 3/4" hand-scraped maple flooring (also from Home Depot) on top of 3/4" plywood. First time using a flooring nailer and here's what I learned. This nailer make a loud pop when you strike it. I wondered if the neighbors would call the police thinking it was a handgun. When striking the nailer, hit it like you mean it. I had two nails not go all the way in because I didn't hit the striker hard enough. I used Porta-Nails1-1/2 in. x 16-Gauge Taped 1M Bright Steel T-Head Hardwood Flooring Nails and they worked great. I had zero nails go all the way through the 3/4" backer board (aka my "subfloor") and that was key to having a smooth back on my finished product. Finally, per the flooring directions, I nailed the tongue side of the boards. For those in the flooring business you can laugh if that's the way ALL flooring is assembled with a flooring nailer but I'm a basic DIY'er and I'm learning as I go. I've seen a few pros on TV using a nailer on the groove side and I don't know which is correct. Overall, this product worked great and my headboard looks fantastic (see photos). If you remove the bolts holding the handle to the nailer it will fit in a VERY large tool bag along with the rest of your flooring tools and nails.

Worked Great!
5 Star Review   By EastOhVic on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2013

I bought this to intall 750 sq.ft. of oak 3/4" T&G flooring. I've never install a floor like this or used a floor nailer. It worked great! It does take a little getting used to. Don't hit it too lightly or it won't completely drive the nails. If you do get a nail not driven completely drive it in with a flat punch or if it won't go clamp onto it with Vise-Grips and wiggle it until it snaps off. The nails will not pull out without damaging the boards. When you get near the walls it may be difficult to hit it sharply enough to get it to fire correctly though. In addition get a 2 1/2" finish nailer and 2" finish nails. You will need it around the edges and where you can't fit this nailer! It sounds like a gun firing so you may want hearing protection.

Nail gun is inexpensive and easy to use.
5 Star Review   By Chale on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2013

My wife and I did a staircase, a landing and bridge from one side of our house to the other. It performed flawlessly, we had a couple lite hits or mishits on the air release plunger but we cut the staple head and kept on going. It saves a lot of time and wood looks great. I would recommend this product to anyone getting ready to do a wood floor. You cannot beat the price and performance for a DIY project!

First time laying unfinished hardwood flooring. I thought it would be harder than it was. I look at YouTube to see how they lay unfinished flooring before I start this project. It was like a free class on how to do it.

Good show!
5 Star Review   By Jack on Home Depot - Mar 12, 2013

I am very satisfied with this product. I had only a few misfires which was my fault by not hitting it squarely on. The price was reasonable. I used a small pan cake air compressor that worked very well.

Light weight heavy hitter
5 Star Review   By skygod98 on Home Depot - Mar 5, 2013

For a light weight, low cost, floor nailer the NuMax compares well against the heavier and much more expensive floor nailers. The NuMax is a heavy hitter in the light weight catagory.

So Easy to use!
5 Star Review   By TallTom on Home Depot - Feb 27, 2013

I saved thousands of dollars installing the floor myself. With every project I like to pick up new tools. I have never installed a floor before, and when I found out the cost per square foot my flooring I choked. So I purchased the nail gun and a compressor and went to work. I've never worked with a nail gun or compressor but have some wood working skills. This was flat out fun and really quite easy. I installed over 1500 SQFT over a few weeks and chipped away at it every night and on weekends. End result is a gorgeous walnut floor. Definitely get some good knee pads and hearing protection. It did slow down working at one point, but a few drops of oil was all it needed and I got back in the swing. Definitely worth the price. I don't think it matters if you use the Tee or L nails.

5 Star Review   By poppas on Home Depot - Feb 26, 2013

Won't work on 5/8T&G for me
3 Star Review   By Zborn on Home Depot - Feb 7, 2013

I was unable to adjust this nailer to shoot the cleats so that they allow the following boards tongue to clear on my 5/8" hard wood installation. I had to follow up with each "nail" and sink it with a punch. The job was small so I continued this way until the job was finished. I used the maximum amount of air pressure 120 lbs starting at 90 lbs without success. Changing the supplied plates, both the 25/32 and 1/2 did not help. The tool is however seemingly high quality and machined well.

Great price
5 Star Review   By ZRdave on Home Depot - Feb 6, 2013

Nailer worked perfectly but only after I switched from Grip Rite L-cleats to Bostich L-cleats. Grip Rite cleats bent into a U shape and came back up through the subfloor which took forever to correct. Once loaded with the Bostich cleats I was able to install 300 sq.ft. of 3/4in. oak without a single misfire or jamb. For the price this was much more practicle than renting a nailer even for a relatively small job. I don't know if it would hold up for a pro but seems perfect for the occasional DIY job.

Worked flawlessly!
5 Star Review   By JMSRE on Home Depot - Jan 22, 2013

Read other reviews and decided to try this nailer. As others stated it performed flawlessly. I followed other guidelines and put a couple drops of oil in the line with each new set of nails, and used 90PSI (95 was too much!) of air and installed a HW floor in a 10x12 dining room without issue. The 3-4 nails that didn't seat properly were entirely my fault for not striking the gun right (too much of an angle or too softly), and all I did was use a pair of pliers to bend the nail back and forth a few times until it broke off flush with the tongue, no harm done. My only complaint is that it wasn't clear to me (novice to using a side-nailer thougth!) exactly how to properly insert the nails. The instructions were vague in that area, but I (obviously) figured it out pretty quickly. The gun never jammed, and yes, even with care the rubber sleeve on the handle twisted and started to slide off, so expect that, or tape it in place PRIOR to starting if that bothers you! I HIGHLY recommend this tool.

5 Star Review   By Dj2000 on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2012

The nailer worked well straight from the box. I followed the easy to understand instructions and went to work laying down a bamboo floor. No mishaps through the entire process. Only issue was with the rubber handle cover it would slide towards the end. But was easily fix by stretching it back out over the handle. Gun worked great and ready for next project.

I used the nailer in installing my first oak hardwood 3/4" thick floor. The nailer worked flawlessy. I installed about 266 square ft in our living room. I will use the nailer again on installation of hardwood floor in hallway and bedrooms. Rental cost would have been well over $200. This option was a great savings and I could work at my own pace.

Works great!
5 Star Review   By zr27 on Home Depot - Sep 17, 2012

Bought this nailer to perform a 3/4" hardwood floor install that I knew would take me several weeks due to my time restraints and I am not a pro. Would have been much more expensive to rent one than just to buy this one. I have finished one room (dining room) and am in the process of completing a living room and it works GREAT! After hooking up the air compressor to it the install has gone smoothly. One jam so far due to operator error, I hit it too lightly once, but was able to get it cleared quickly and easily. Leaves no marks on the floor and is sturdy. Works well for the weekend project guy like me. The floor came out great.

Great nailer
5 Star Review   By chask on Home Depot - Aug 28, 2012

I wanted to try a pneumatic nailer after using a manual one for several hundred feet of flooring. This nailer worked flawlessly for a few thousand nails. Never had a single jam or misfire. For the money, you cannot go wrong. Why spend hundreds more for a name brand flooring nailer. This one definately is capable of any homeowner's flooring needs.

This gun performs just as good or better than brand name flooring guns but cost a fraction of the price. Don't rent a gun for your projects. Buy this for the about what you would pay to rent. I am a contractor and this is a high quality gun.

Does not work with Brazillian walnut
1 Star Review   By swhsah on Home Depot - Aug 26, 2012

Purchased it to install 1000 sq ft of prefinished brazillian walnut flooring. The cleat which buts up to the wood is too small and dents the new wood every time the hammer fires. This pops off the finish at each dent. Spend the extra money and sell it on ebay when your finished.

Worked well. We installed 1000 square feet in four day, 4 rooms, a hall and 2 closets. It paid for itself, no problem. Jambed twice, but any gun will occationally.

for the person that said he had a hard time with 5/8 inch plate . said he had a 5/8 inch floor. you need to use the 1/2 inch plate. works great. I called the # on the instructions that came with the nailer.

Very Good
5 Star Review   By MrFixit on Home Depot - Aug 1, 2012

I have installed about 100 sq feet of 3/4 hardwood flooring using 2 inch cleat nails and the nailer has not misfired once. I only wish I could get closer than 6 boards from the wall. Nonetheless, this is fantastic when you think about nailing it by hand.

Best bang for the buck
4 Star Review   By Donald on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012

The Numax floor nailer is a quality product that works as advertised for an affordable price. As a do-it-yourselfer, my first installation included scribing around a natural stone fireplace - no easy task. A rental was out of the question, but the Numax took the stress out of the equation by allowing me to work at a comfortable pace; all without a misfire. The results were so good it's hard to believe it wasn't done by a pro. Many thanks.

5 Star Review   By Jimmy on Home Depot - Jul 30, 2012

the first time user... floor came out great, no misfires with the nailer. did the living room floor and will be doing two other bedrooms. great tool for the cost. highly recommend. It was best to purchase instead of renting. Would have cost three times as much in rental fees .... and can work at your own pace. PS my girlfriend used the nailer and did not misfire and was an excellent hit.

No 5/8" plate
2 Star Review   By kenpoquilter on Home Depot - Jun 27, 2012

The description says it can nail 5/8" flooring, but it only comes with 1/2" and 25/32" face plates. As a first time DIYer putting floor down, I was hoping it would be easy, not so with this tool as I have to hope the 1/2" plate works or make sure I line up the cleats perfectly without the help of a face plate.

Numax flooring nailer 4.0-4.5 for value
4 Star Review   By Bassplayer on Home Depot - Jun 24, 2012

I purchased this item after the flooring nailer I bought from Brand X, broke after less than a day of use. I was using it with 2" 16 ga Bostich nails on 3/4" tongue in groove Southern Yellow Pine flooring. I think the Bostich nails were too hard for the striking mechanism in the Brand X tool. The coupling that connected to the pressure house also leaked. I ended up renting another nailer for a day, still had about 300 sq feet of flooring to go. I decided to take a chance on the Numax. To start off I was apprehensive. The Body of the Brand X and the Numax nailers are cosmetically identical except for color. They both have the same body and nail feeding assembly. However, the Numax's Coupling fit the compressor hose like they were meant to go together, no leak. I also think the internal workings on the NUMAX are made of a better alloy. Although I did experience some misfires on the 2" Bostitch nails, I decided to switch to some 1 1/2" Brand X nails I had bought. This change along with a couple of drops of Pneumatic oil for every reload, and I experienced no problems. I will still be using this Numax in the future and I anticipate no problems, I don't think you'll go wrong for the money. Rental costs for a 2 days of a flooring nailer pays for the thing. If you are an ongoing DIY'er and plan on doing floors more than once, buying this tool is a no brainer!!

OK for the price but jammed up very frequently.
2 Star Review   By ampf on Home Depot - Jun 6, 2012

For the price I can't complain too much because it completed the job. However. after half of the first room was down the nailer would jam repeatedly and have to be taken apart to remove the staple. The box says air pressure of at least 70 but we had to keep it at 90. It arrived fast and we didn't have to worry with renting one from a local store.

Junk in a box
1 Star Review   By DanTheMan on Home Depot - May 16, 2012

I wish I could review this item for its performance but the screws holding the foot on it (needed to switch for 5/8 flooring) were seized - rusted right in there. The head stripped and boom - I am off to rent a nailer elsewhere. Lesson learned - if it is not good enough to sell on the floor of the store it is probably not worth buying online.

5 Star Review   By bassman on Home Depot - May 8, 2012

This product preformed flawlessly. I highly recommend it. 700 sq feet of hardwood no misfires using 2 " cleats on oak. A third the cost of others. Great for weekend warriors and cheaper than renting if you have much flooring to do ( more than 1 room). 1 tip tape on the rubber handle or it will work it's way off in the first day.

Great option instead of renting.
4 Star Review   By Flooring on Home Depot - Apr 18, 2012

We purchased this to install hardwood flooring in our home as the price for the unit was less than renting a nailer for one week. While it is not professional grade, it worked well to install our flooring. We had a few times where the nailer did not fire completely - you have to apply a good amount of force to get the gun to fire. Otherwise, worked well.

Good tool but need patience
4 Star Review   By Greg on Home Depot - Apr 17, 2012

I installed 3/4" oak hardwood flooring and this tool handled the job with ease. Instructions were easy to follow. Had a couple issues with jams but it was mostly my fault. If you don't hit the plunger squarely, it may miss fire. The only other minor complaint is, this tool is fairly large. I had to use my 2" nail gun to complete the last 3 rows of flooring otherwise, I would hit the wall. Overall, this tool is very good for a DIYer and the price can't be beat.

I purchased this nailer to install over 600 square feet of 3/4 inch real oak flooring. It was the first time I have ever installed harwoods and the nailer made it go easily. I had no issues with the nailer at all. I did find that if I bought the same nailer in the store, I would have paid about 50.00 more. This is one of the best buys I have made in a while.

Excellent Flooring Nailer!
5 Star Review   By CDuhon on Home Depot - Apr 3, 2012

We just finished installing 3/4" pre-finished oak flooring in our kitchen and den using this nailer. I was amazed at the quality of the gun- just as good as the expensive brands that I have rented in the past. Yet the price was cheaper than what it would have cost me to rent!!! I oiled it daily (4-5 drops) and didn't have a single problem with it. I highly recommend this gun!!

I used this nailer to install hardwood in a small area. This is the first time I ever used a floor nailer and had no problems with it. I wish if it had a shorter cartridge so that I could use it little closer to the walls. I had to face nail 3 rows as there wasn't enough room to use the nailer.

Don't let the low price scare you away- this is a good tool
5 Star Review   By bturnip on Home Depot - Mar 24, 2012

I was looking at renting a nailer, but found this nailer was pretty inexpensive. I was pretty skeptical about how well this thing would perform at a low price point, but the large number of positive reviews convinced me to take a chance. Glad I did- tool is basic, but well built. It performed well on strand bamboo (hard material) with L cleats. My only con would be the rubber grip/sleeve thing on the handle slipped halfway off. Minor annoyance- I'll probably remove it entirely; it didn't affect the performance of the tool. Very happy with the purchase- excellent value for the price.

Excellent Product for Price
5 Star Review   By Doug on Home Depot - Mar 20, 2012

I have laid around 700sqft with no jams or issues. Installing 3/4" prefinished strand Bamboo with L style nails. I have had a couple of marks from the base plate edge if not held flush to wood. More operator with this type of wood, not gun. I feel that if you keep lubing, cleaning and inspecting gun properly you will have zero issues. I used approximately 4 drops every time I filled with new nails. I also never put it away without removing the nails, adding a couple drops depending on when I lubed it last and firing the lube through system. A little overkill, but works for me and I want to keep the gun for future jobs. Most of my work was done a little at a time and not straight through with more than two nail strips a use.

Good quality tool for the price
4 Star Review   By Richard on Home Depot - Mar 15, 2012

I used this nailer to install 250 sq/ft of solid bamboo hardwood flooring without a single misfire or jam. It worked great. The only trouble I had was nailing the ends of each row. I laid it on the diagonal so there wasn't enough room for the tool to fit on the last 6" of each run. If the flooring were laid perpendicular to the walls, there would have been plenty of room. However, I like the look of the floor on a diagonal. I would recommend this tool.

Great Price - Poor Performance
1 Star Review   By DIYer1234 on Home Depot - Mar 7, 2012

I don't know what everyone else is raving about with this gun -- I was installing 3/4" Hickory flooring and using staples to install Got to about the 3rd row in and the gun would start jamming every other staple I had to consistently clear the gun with jammed staples or pull out the half fired staple in the floor. I even used Bostich staples. I lubricated the gun several times - no difference. I found theat the firing hammer would not retract to fire the staples. Long story short -- I returned it - took the plunge and bought the Bostich Gun - and never had a problem since. Don't waste your money if you plan on using staples. Spend the extra dough and buy a good gun Well worth all the aggravation it saves.

Best tool purchase ever!
5 Star Review   By anonymousreviewguy on Home Depot - Mar 6, 2012

I installed strand woven bamboo floors in my house with this badboy. The nailer ended up being cheaper than renting and I didn't have to worry about getting the nailer back to the rental place on time, so no stress. Now I have to put it on Craigslist and get some money back for it before all of my friends ask me to help them install flooring in their houses. The only complaint I can come up with is that the rubber on the handle slowly slips out of position with use and it is difficult to get it back in place. Petty, I know. If you are thinking about buying this, do it.

Great product. A good value for the price.
5 Star Review   By JDWick on Home Depot - Feb 21, 2012

This nailer arrived in two pieces and required me to attach the handle to the body of the nailer...easy and straight forward. I installed 500 sf of flooring over a three day period and it worked flawlessly. I used 2" L-cleats, and the gun never jammed. Cleats seated properly with a firm rap on the actuator. On those few occassions where I mis-hit the actualtor and the nail didn't seat all the way, it never caused a jam...the nailer lifted off the cleat and I was able to remove it and continue. A great tool at a great price.

Great Value for the money
4 Star Review   By mike on Home Depot - Feb 14, 2012

I bought this for the floor installation in my home. I had borrowed a friends $450 Bostitch nailer so i had a direct comparison. It works fantastic, but my one complaint is the oversized cartridge for the nails. It prevents me from getting as close to the wall as the Bostitch. I would have had to face nail the first 3 rows to use the NuMax on the 4th. It doesn't even make use of the extra size anyway. From the 4th row onward, this unit really shines and i have been enjoying using it for the past week. still quite a bit more to go, but i am very happy so far with it.

Super Worthwhile Purchase
5 Star Review   By Harleyduo on Home Depot - Feb 7, 2012

I purchased this NuMax Flooring nailer to do my first ever hardwood floor installation. I read how it had received many wonderful reviews so I decided to try it. It was about a fifth of the cost of any flooring nailer I could purchase locally. I could have rented a similar tool but that would have been almost $30 per day and I figured owning a nailer would allow me to work at my own pace and not have to rush. I used over 2,200 nails and it never failed once. My only problem was that I would forget to re-load it when I was really going great guns, but that was not the tool's fault. IT loads easily, is super sturdy, and seems to be built every bit as well as the tools costing five times as much. This tool more than paid for itself on this one job. I now have all kinds of options as to what I do with the tool, and I feel ahead of the game compared to how many days I would have had to rent a tool. I highly recommend this tool.
