Noisy can hear the water boil in other room.
2 Star Review   By Nothappy on Home Depot - Apr 14, 2013

The product is noisy. When the water heats you can hear a boiling sound. I replaced one that lasted 10 years. Called support listed in the booklet and they had no clue. Would not buy again.

solved the problem
5 Star Review   By roger on Home Depot - Feb 5, 2013

Product was ordered online for pickup and was there waiting for me when I picked it up so I wasted no time whatsoever. The pipe heater works perfectly on the humidifier tube that empties excess water to the outside. The water in the tube no longer freezes during cold weather that was causing back up water onto my basement floor that I would have to clean up.

A Great Convenience
5 Star Review   By Tommy on Home Depot - Dec 14, 2012

I've had these units since the mid 90's. I've had the copper, plastic and stainless tanks, which seemed to last the longest. Customer service has always taken care of me, including a time when a tank failure occured past the warranty period.

Overall, a great product for the price.
5 Star Review   By Debbie on Home Depot - Oct 24, 2012

My last Insinkerator hot water tap lasted 8 years. and the new model looks improved. The only thing is the way the handle attached was flimsy and fell apart on the first try, but with a little 5 min. epoxy, it's been working fine. I love it for a quick hot drink or noodles! Customer service was excellent!

Good for 5 years only Believe me!
3 Star Review   By TonyH on Home Depot - Oct 1, 2012

I am done with this product. When I moved into my home, there was one of these installed. 2 years later it leaked. Of course you don't know it's leaking under your sink. In 25 years in this house I have been foolish and replaced this unit 5 times. Yes, they have gone through generations of change but all are like clock work, 5 years a they leak. The brass tank version, the plastic tank version and now this Stainless Steel version is leaking. Find some counter top water heater that is less expensive and you can see when or if it leaks. Why can 40 gallon Heaters last over 25 years and these small tanks die in 5????

Provides plenty of hot water as expected. Saves energy & time.
5 Star Review   By BobsHD22 on Home Depot - Aug 21, 2012

This is our third of these. We love it or we wouldn't have bought another. The older versions built up mineral deposits after 12 years or so. It looks like they have improved on that. It saves time & energy when you need a cup of hot water it is instant. When we need boiling water to cook something, we fill the pan with it and the water boils on the stove almost instantly. Can't imagine a house without one. The only down side is it makes more noise for a few seconds right after use than the old one did. Probably while it is heating the water back up.

I've owned this item in previous homes, very aware of its quality & value.
4 Star Review   By Alice on Home Depot - Jun 26, 2012

Mounting screw was not long enough to go through granite counter top - perhaps a 2nd longer screw in the packaging would be adviseable. Needed to buy a ferrel and nut (not sure of the spelling) to complete the installation.

Stopped working for no apparent reason
2 Star Review   By Robert on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2012

This heater is great when it works, delivering very hot or scalding water instantly. But it stopped working without warning or apparent reason. It's an expensive luxury. We heat water in the microwave when we need it fast now.

Can't live without it
4 Star Review   By kcLI on Home Depot - May 8, 2012

I love how convenient it is to have boiling water at your fingertips. I have adjusted myself to the fact that even though it's going to cost at least $200 dollars to buy, it won't last more than about 5 years. Then you will have to replace it. It always seems to stop working, break or leak as soon as the warranty expires. I would recommend it because I haven't been able to find any other kind.

Good , but not great
3 Star Review   By ecr1947 on Home Depot - Apr 3, 2012

Our last Instant Hot got a leaky tank so we had to buy a whole new one. The tank alone was more expensive than the complete faucet. It went together easily and quickly, but it didn't work heating the water for almost 24 hrs. We still can't figurer it out.

Poor quality continues
1 Star Review   By Bill on Home Depot - Jan 25, 2012

I have had 4 or 5 of these over the past 10 years. They last for 2 years at best. The only reason I continue to buy them is beacause my wife thinks she can't manage without one. Do yourself a favor and pass on this one one. Buy a quick boil hot-pot for a fraction of the price.

Easy replacement installation of tank.
5 Star Review   By Savy77 on Home Depot - Jan 24, 2012

Have had two previous InSinkErator hot water dispensers. They lasted about 7 to 10 years. I installed only the tank from this purchase, and left the old faucet and the tank bracket in place. Installation was therefore straightforward, took less than one hour. No hose clamps required, just had to install one adaptor which is provided, and reconnect the cold water inlet. Tank has knob to adjust temperature, a nice feature. Hope this stainless steel tank lasts longer than previous metal tanks.

Hot Water/Short life of unit
3 Star Review   By MTee1 on Home Depot - Jan 23, 2012

This is the third H770 we have had in two different homes. As noted by many, it is easy to install (follow the dir), and produces very hot water almost instantaneously. Sadly, our current units heating element has failed at 26-28 months (daily use = 6-8 8oz cups). For $200, that's about 25cents/day. With an impending move, we're buying one more and just replacing the tank. If we were staying in this home, we'd invest in a professional/commercial system.

replaced an earlier version that leaked after 4 years. This one seem to be made better. Real easy to install just hope it lasts longer than the last one, it should since it is stainless construction.

poor material and design
2 Star Review   By Kamran on Home Depot - Dec 25, 2011

Poorly designed mounting screw and hardware. Hard time installing. Only lasted about 2 years when the tank started leaking and I had to throw it away. The water also tasted strange unless you purge the fiirst tank of the day.

1 Star Review   By Homeguy on Home Depot - Aug 24, 2011

Leaked Took apart and found plastic hose on side of heater and it split through from heat If you look at the reviews in Lowe's they are almost all bad and some frustrated people did what I did and found the leak. Poor design

Very dissapointing
1 Star Review   By MrBlonde on Home Depot - Aug 1, 2011

(1) The long tensioning screw used to clamp the faucet to the sink was of such low quality that it stripped while being tightened before holding enough tension to firmly mount the faucet. Insinkerator customer service told me the part number for the screw and gave me a phone number where I could order another one. Thanks for nothing. (2) The supply line is 1/4" copper tubing. The brass ferrule and nut needed to make this connection were missing. (3) The faucet is chromed plastic - it has a very cheap feel. I will not buy any more Insinkerator products (also bought a disposer recently) - quality does not seem to be of any importance to them.

ease of install
4 Star Review   By barniclebill on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2011

There was no problems with the install, I did make sure that I had better shut off valves than came with the unit. Those I had the plumber put it as the plumbing had to brought up to code. I do not have hard water and expect years of good service from it. It made heated water about 2 minutes after it was plugged in.

Works great but one of mine only lasted 26 months
2 Star Review   By TrailMix on Home Depot - Mar 23, 2011

We have two of these water heaters at work. One of the two started leaking out of the bottom of the tank. I called Insinkerator and they told me that it is not covered under warranty because it was used commercially. Their warranty is for in home use only, no exceptions. The one that leaks didn't get used that much, maybe twice a workday and then it would not get used at all on the weekend. Now I wonder if the second one is going to start leaking too. I need to buy a new water heater to replace this one, but don't want to get another one of these. $200 for 26 months of use, plus some water damage under the sink.

Easy replacement for previous model
4 Star Review   By Marty2 on Home Depot - Dec 14, 2010

I bought the Insinkerator H770-SS to replace my Insinkerator GN-3C instant hot water dispenser which had begun to leak. Using the old Insinkerator fawcett, this was a very easy swap. I had the whole project completed in about a half hour and I am not a great handyman. The new tank is physically close in size to the previous model and includes recesses in the back that allow it to fit the previous model's hanging bracket, making mounting a snap. The fitting on the blue line was a little different than the previous model, but this difference was easily corrected by switching the lines at the pressure fitting (using new line that is included with new unit). After that, all three lines transferred from the old to the new tank without using any tools. Then it was simply a matter of filling the tank with water and connecting the AC power. It makes great hot water, just like it should. The reason I gave it four stars but would not "recommend to a friend" is because this is my third Insinkerator hot water dispenser in seven years.

PERFECT... Once installed.
4 Star Review   By LoveOurHouse7 on Home Depot - Jul 6, 2010

Installation of this item was not as simple as the Home Depot staff member said it would be. We had to go back to the store about 3 times to get the right parts/tools to install it. This is why I would give the item 4, not 5 stars. However, now that it is installed, we love it! Perfect for hot beverages, oatmeal, rinsing vegetables, sterilizing etc... Looks great in our kitchen too. A wonderful addition to our house!!

GREAT initially.....
2 Star Review   By johng34 on Home Depot - May 28, 2010

We LOVED this unit for the first 3-4 years. Installed originally approx. 1/1/05. At approx. 6/1/09 we started to notice a slight smell. Now the smell is so bad we don't use the unit. It's not a chlorine smell, more metalic. The unit is fed from a high efficiency GE water filter, so I'm sure there isn't a sediment problem. Just wrote email to Insinkerator, will see what happens. Discussion groups I've read says this unit has a plastic water tank and that's the reason for the odor. That thread said Insinkerator suggested a unit with a stainless steel tank that would reduce odors. Poster made it a point to say they didn't say it would ELIMINATE odors.

Fantastic Product
5 Star Review   By Eggzotik on Home Depot - Feb 21, 2010

We initially purchased this same water dispenser from Home Depot over 16 years ago. It has been in 3 houses in that time and is just now appearing to be on it's last legs. This is item is "indispensible" for the busy family on the go. We are looking to replace our original faucet with one that has filtered hot and cold water this time but felt compelled to comment on the original product. Don't hesitate to purchase this- it is a great investment and time saver that will last.

InSinkErator Hot Water Dispensor - Model # H770-SS
2 Star Review   By member Evergreen37 - Jan 5, 2009

Strengths: widely available

Weakness: Cheap construction, very noisy, lousy customer service

My old InSinkErator hot water dispenser worked well for 15 years. It was well insulated and silent. When it died I purchased a replacement at Lowes and installed it without difficulty. Then the noise began. The new "stainless steel" tank was made in Mexico of uninsulated plastic. About once an hour the thermostat would turn on and heat the water in the tank for about 60 seconds. This caused a roaring noise that was very noticeable and annoying. Three calls to InSinkErator's customer support line were answered by polite young people in Manila who didn't seem to comprehend indoor plumbing. After several long waits on hold while they consulted a "supervisor" they referred me to a local plumbing company for "free" warrantee repair. The plumbing company told me that the free warrantee service call would cost me $85 if they didn't find any defect in the unit, and the new units are just more noisy so that is not considered to be a defect. Bottom line, the once proud Emerson Electric Co. has followed the lead of too many manufacturers in making a cheap product off shore to appeal to the big box retailers. They then contract out their "customer support" to foreign call centers that are absolutely useless. Shame on them.

Helped me sell the house
5 Star Review   By CUsmile on Home Depot - Sep 3, 2007

Being in Real Estate I have come to know that the littlest details can sell a house. When my client changed out the broken hot water dispenser and put this one in...it was the hit of all woman and men. Having the hot apple cider and tea to test it out helped one couple decide that this was the house! Thank you!

Hot Water Dispenser
5 Star Review   By Teddy766 on Home Depot - Jan 20, 2007

I have this hot water dispenser. It is the best thing to have in the kitchen. My family uses it every day, from instant coffee to quick hot soups for lunch. It is a god send to have hot water at the turn of a handle. It saves running the sink water waiting for the water to get hot. And it hardly takes any electricity to run. I would not have a kitchen without this.
