Product was easy to apply & it's been down 1 year
5 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Mar 19, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After 1 year this product looks great in my garage. It was new concrete. I chose not to put a clear coat down and some of the chips on the surface have lifted off. However, it is easy to clean with a mop and vinegar water. I have a 2 1/2 car garage but only one car. I have seen no lifting of the paint anywhere. Lots of mud and salt this year. I let the coating cure longer than the recommended time just to make sure it was totally cured and dry. I would recommend this paint.

Colors do not match
1 Star Review   By Mark on Home Depot - Jan 19, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

First, I am not new at using this product I have used extensively in the past. This time I mixed the cans following to a "T" the exact times. I applied 1st can and within 20 minutes started the 2nd can which I delayed mixing so could get the same times from mix to application and BOOM immediately noticed a very lighter color. Bottom line this product isn't what it used to be. Color is way off on 2 cans from same batch. Each can was mixed same amount of time/same room/humidity/temp. Paying more for a "garage" quality epoxy certainly wasn't worth it with this product.

Decent product for the price
3 Star Review   By GSXR6Dude on Home Depot - Dec 31, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I just did a 2,000 sq foot shop with four of these kits. Like everyone said, all the work is in the prep! I would have given a higher rating but I was really disappointed to find that each kit was a different shade of gray...even though I called to ask ahead of time. They said it would match and NOT to box (mix) all the base containers to get an even color consistency. The kit is worth buying based on value. Ive used similar products and this seems to be the better value.

GREAT PRODUCT AND EASY APPLICATION
5 Star Review   By rjprelude on Home Depot - Dec 13, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The key to success with this product is the temperature of the garage and the preparation time that goes into getting the concrete ready to paint. I spent a day degreasing and scrapping any problem spots in a 20 year old garage. For this I purchased a hard bristle deck brush and some industrial degreaser. Following that 3 days later, I used the acid etch that came with the kit. This takes a lot of water to rinse off but is an essential step. Once this had fully dried, 2 days later I followed the instructions and painted on the epoxy. The 2 1/2 car kit was enough for my 3 car garage and the color flecks came out great. I would highly recommend this kit and I have received many compliments since doing this week long job.

Different shades of gray
3 Star Review   By Soclose on Home Depot - Oct 21, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I applied the gray epoxy to my 2 car garage last weekend. I bought the 2 1/2 car garage value kit since all you need is in one box. I washed the floor with degreaser and then etched with the product in the box as per the instructions. The product looks nice and adhered well, but the 2 cans did not match. You can clearly see where I painted the first gallon and then started with the second. I assumed that the 2 gallons that come in the box would be from the same lot number, but that was a bad assumption. Normally when I paint, I mix the gallons together to ensure you get the same color. I didn't do this because the instructions said not to mix the second gallon at the same time. I'd recommend that if you are doing this, you consider mixing the 2 gallons together in a clean 5 gallon bucket. Assuming you can move fast enough, it shouldn't be a problem and will ensure that the floor comes out with a consistent color. Overall, I'm happy with product, but disappointed with this company's QC to ensure the paint color is consistent. It is a lot of work to apply this correctly, and it was disappointing that the color didn't match in. Otherwise, the finish is nice, much easier to clean and much more pleasant to walk even in bare feet. It its a shame that something that seems to easy to prevent has not been handled by their QC department.

Did my large 2 car garage a year ago, and it came out fantastic. Looks just as good today. Even my wife was impressed. Just pay attention to the instructions. After etching, I let it dry 3 days and that was about right. Only thing I would do next time is put on a little thicker. Put it on a little thin because I thought the 2-1/2 garage kit might not be enough. There was plenty.

Bought product to coat a 20'x30' Garage floor. Anticipated needing 2 coats, but 1 coat was sufficient. Once can is open, must work quickly before paint sets up in can, Was dry to walk-on in about 18 hours. Product went on easily & produced a good hard floor coating.

I have used this product on 3 garage floors. I have learned the tricks of using this product. Some old concrete you need to grind with a commercial grinder you can rent this equipment at sunbelt and you can use a drum sander rent it at home depot. 1. Old concrete I don't etch i grind I put the epoxy shield down after sweeping and sweeping then a damp rag wipe the surface. New concrete I etch and allow 1 week dry time. 2. Put expoxy shield down 2 kits. If you want the colors to match you buy the appropriate kit mix 1 coats worth if that requires 2 car kit mix separately and put each can after mixed into a 5 gallon bucket and mix all together. This will ensure the color matches throughout the whole garage you will have waste. Put 2 kits down 1 coat each and put them down after no more than 16 hours apart or you will be sanding again. 3. Buy the clear coat expoxy shield and put one coat down between 16 hours of dry time no more than 24 hours. YOU DON'T NEED 2 COATS OF CLEAR BUT MAKE SURE YOU DON'T MISS ANYTHING. (the clear coat is not water based and will be great when done but you will not get it off your hands without solvent and it stinks. Works very well. 4. allow dry for 4 days before driving on it but you can walk all over the place that's fine. The more you walk on it the more risk there is to scratching the shiny surface. YOU DON'T NEED THE GRIT ON CLEAR COAT THROW IT OUT! 5. if you need to resurface in the future with the color you will have to take the clear off that is not fun however you will get about 10 years out of it if you put new gloss on it every 3-4 years. but you need to scuff the surface and that stuff is tough. I used a belt sander on 24x24 garage with 38 grit sand paper and it doesn't score easily. You don't have to sit and grind it just scratch the surface scotch brite will work but it will take you forever. One pass with the sander in lines will work. This product will last you forever. 5. If you maintain it and use the clear coat it won't come off. NOTE: This etching and getting wet concrete on old concrete is a bad idea. If you have cracks you just put water in the cracks unless the cracks are huge you don't need to fill them just don't put water in the cracks. If you want to etch then wait for a couple of weeks for the floor to dry before starting project I would still grind the concrete anyway even if you etch old concrete. Hope this all helps it's a great product my floor looks like glass and one of the houses was built in 1995 I just recently put that down a month ago. The other house has had this product down for 10 years no issues. YOU NEED THE CLEAR TO MAKE IT LAST CONS- this process will cost you at least $450 if you do it yourself and do it the way i have explained but it's worth every penny. Unless you have a lot of time to repair and sand which I don't.

I am still pleased with my floor.
5 Star Review   By Poindexter on Home Depot - Mar 31, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It has been a year since I applied the epoxy kit. I followed the instructions with a little more prep. I have floor to ceiling cabinets down one side of my garage. I spent a lot of time caulking these cabinets to the floor. I also filled the 4 crack joints they put in when the installed the comcrete 11 years ago. I didn't fill them completely but I did a professional joint seam just much shallower than before. I followed the instructions and it came out beautiful. It is still beautiful today. The only thing that shows anything is the clearcoat has lost some of it's luster where you drive constantly on it. Otherwise, Great product.

Great looking and good value!
5 Star Review   By JeffP on Home Depot - Jan 3, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

About 6 months ago, we recently bought a new construction house with an attached 19'x19' 2-car garage. So, with new concrete, I was lucky not have to spend a ton of time prepping. I used the included acid etch wash, but that was about it. The paint went on pretty easy, took about 90 minutes to apply. I had plenty of paint leftover, the paint amount should be good for a 2 1/2 car garage like it states. I painted from inside the garage out to where the big door is. My garage has 4 large concrete sections, I divided them up and did a quarter of each of the sections at a time to make 16 total sections. That made it simpler to do trim work and apply the chips. There were also plenty of the decorative chips. I would estimate I only used about half of them. Using another reviewers tip, I divided the chips into 16 solo cups so i had an even amount for each of my 16 areas. The best way to spread them I found was throwing them towards the ceiling, but you'd still have to go back and sprinkle some here or there to even them out. They say let the paint dry 24 hrs before applying the clearcoat, I gave it 48 hours just to be safe. The clearcoat took 1 hour to apply. I used the anti-skid that came with it. Really you almost need a helper for this because the clear coat w/the anti-skid needs to be constantly stirred. If you don't stir, you get areas with not much anti-skid and some areas with a lot. The clear coat was barely enough to cover my garage and I have a small garage for a 2-car. If you have a large 2 car garage, I would get an extra small can of the clear coat. You don't want to be running to the store in the middle. I noticed a few small air bubbles in the clear coat, but they went away eventually. The clear coat did smooth some of the imperfections that were noticeable with the paint only. The paint had a dull sort of look to it, the clear coat however gave it that "wet" look not to mention an extra layer of protection. If you're doing it, why not do the clear coat too. I was able to let the floor cure for about 2 months before driving on it since all we had was moving boxes in the garage. But, i've seen no sign whatsoever of hot tire pull up or anything like that...and we live in the Carolinas where it gets very hot. I have noticed some scratches and occasional chips in the clear coat if a hammer or chisel falls on it, but barely noticeable. I will warn you that the floor is very slick. Even with the anti-skid, it's still slick. I would hate to walk with wet shoes without the anti-skid. My kids are sliding around in their crocs if it rains. Here's my suggestion of supplies besides what comes in the box...3" trim brush, big roller assembly (I used an 18" roller), roller pan, 2 rollers (1 for paint and 1 for clear coat), broom handle to attach to roller, long arm gloves, face mask for the fumes and solo cups for the chips. Plan to throw away the brush, rollers, gloves and mask afterwards...the paint is very thick and not worth trying to clean. The floor looks awesome. It has the "wet" look I was hoping for. It's also extremely easy to sweep/vacuum. My wife loves it and I've gotten tons of comments about how good it looks. I will probably put this on every garage I own. I also did extensive research on all the products out there and this one stood out big time over quickcrete, behr etc...and I agree!!

Nice-looking but hard to get it right
4 Star Review   By Eugene on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This floor coating does look very nice if you apply it properly. However, getting that appearance requires a lot of work. The reason is that the epoxy layer is very thin, not much thicker than wall paint. It will show every imperfection that you had on your garage floor. Any holes must be carefully patched. The floor must be thoroughly washed and vacuumed several times, because anything bigger than a speck of dust - like a hair or paint flake - will show up through epoxy. And then, if you're not careful during the application process and you don't spread it thoroughly, you might get "steps" if you put too much epoxy in one spot, or darker areas where you can see the concrete if you put too little. You only have a limited amount of time, less than 1.5 hours from the moment you start painting, to use up all the mixed epoxy, so you need to be 100% sure that your floor is clean before you mix. It's best to do it when it's below 70 F or you may run out of time.

Excellent Product
5 Star Review   By BRN98 on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I recently painted my garage floor with the gray epoxyshield 2.5 car garage kit. It comes with two 1-gallon paint cans that you mix with two small epoxy cans. My garage is 20' x 20' and I still had half a gallon left over (which you cannot reuse since it's an epoxy that you mix). First, you have to clean the garage really well. Wipe up any oil spills with mineral spirits. Then use the concrete etch that is included. After drying, use a concrete patch or caulk used for concrete to fill in any cracks or holes in your concrete. It took a week for this to dry before painting. Paint the garage in 4' x 4' sections, sprinkle the chips provided, and move to the next section. You have to work quick, because after mixing, you have about an hour to use the epoxy. Best results are with 2 people so that the paint is always wet while rolling and it doesn't have a chance to dry. Wait 3 days before putting anything on it. Wait 7 days before driving on it. I'm very happy with the purchase and well worth the money.

SHOCKED AT OUTCOME
1 Star Review   By OICUR12 on Home Depot - Jun 22, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I USED THIS PRODUCT ON OUR 2.5 C GARAGE FOUR YEARS OLD. PREPPED FOR DAYS, DEGREASER, ETCHING X 2 ALLOWED IT TO DRY FOR THREE DAYS WITH FANS AND DEHUMIDIFIER. FOR THE APPLICATION IT WAS 71 DEGREES, I MIXED AS INSTRUCTED, APPLICATION WAS EASY. WHEN IT DRIED IT HAS AREAS OF DIFFERENT GRAY TINT ALONG WITH DIFFERENT GLOSS IN AREAS THAT WERE PAINTED WITH THE SAME CAN? NOT SURE IF IT WAS OLD MATERIAL? MIXING INSTRUCTIONS ARE VERY CLEAR AND WERE FOLLOWED. I HAVE READ YOU CAN "BUY" A CLEAR COAT TO EVEN OUT THE GLOSS ISSUE, BUT THAT SEEMS SHADDY! WISH I HAD JUST LEFT THE OLD CONCRETE THE WAY IT WAS AS NOW IT HAS MORE NEGATIVE ATTENTION TO IT THAN PRIOR.

Great Product
5 Star Review   By bayernboy on Home Depot - May 27, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Applied this product to my 3 car garage last August and have been more than pleased with the results. After having bought a new house I wanted the epoxy to be applied before the first car pulled in the garage. Even being a relatively clean surface the process was still 80% preparation (washing/etching/drying), 20% application. Since I was applying the product in the middle of a humid Maryland summer, I started the process at 6AM and had all three bays finished by 11AM. Could still notice the difference between the consistency of the rolling of the first gallon to the last, the last having a more tacky feel. If able, would suggest tackling this project in the fall or spring. Wish I would have payed closer attention to the imperfections (chips and gouges) in the concrete and repaired them prior to the epoxy application. The bare concrete hides these marks, but after the grey epoxy these areas standout out like a sore thumb. My bad! After three days of drying I applied a coat of Quickrete Clear Gloss Epoxy. The combination of these two products really made the finish "pop". 10 months and still no hot tire pull-up or cracking. Garage cleanup is now effortless, brake dust and road salt spots wipe clean with a mop or towel.

1 Star Review   By gregee on Home Depot - May 1, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

We put this product on our basement floor. It has been over two weeks and the floor is still tacky, can't walk on it. Does this stuff ever dry? After a week we put a dehumidifier, fan and ran the furnace disconnecting heating ducks to increase heat. Don’t really have a clue what to do next. Do know one thing we will never use this product nor recommend it to anyone.

GREAT PRICE FOR A GREAT, CLEAN FLOOR
5 Star Review   By EPOXYMAN89032 on Home Depot - Oct 28, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Just cleaned up after doing our 2 1/2 attached garage floor. WOW. Looks awesome. I also applied a EPOXYSHIELD premium clear coat cause after the 24 hr dry time I noticed uneven gloss. But the clear coat put on an awesome, awesome shine just like it says. Gives a wet look. Like the others who posted, I too stress how important prep is. Nice Look
5 Star Review   By VirtualElvis on Home Depot - Sep 17, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I recently completed this project on my detached garage. Like most home improvement projects, prepping is the key. In the really deep divots, I first spread some floor leveler. In the dark greasy areas, I used some Mr. Clean Degreaser. (Both of these products are also at Home Depot.) The epoxy went on fast and easy and took about 24 hours to dry to the touch. It has only been a few weeks, but it looks solid and tough. Product performed as expected.

Epoxy coating
5 Star Review   By CrazyMike2 on Home Depot - Sep 1, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased this product to act as a moisture barrier on my basement floor. The finished product looked great and the 2.5 kit was enough for more than the advertised 500 square feet. I was concerned that the acid mixture might cause lung or eye irritation (enclosed space) but it was not that strong. I recommend an appropriate respirator to cut down on the VOC's since the vapors from the epoxy are strong. Able to apply the product for more than the 2hr pot life at around 67 deg F. Color chips were a challenge to distribute evenly but looked good anyway.

Good Stuff
5 Star Review   By TRK411 on Home Depot - Sep 13, 2009    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Ok...I just put this stuff down today. I tend to be a little obsessive, so my prep was a little more than what was recommended. They say to etch once, and I etched 4 times. In any event, it looks amazing. It was easy to put down and stayed workable for longer than the time specified. The area that I did is about 400sqft and I had just a little bit left over. So, I don't really think it would do 500sqft (as advertised) . Some people on other sites indicated gloss differences, but mine is the same all around. The true test will be how it stands up to hot tires... which we will see in a few days. Overall, however, I am very pleased with how it went down and how it looks right now!! Proper prep is a must!!!

Epoxyshield Garage Floor worked great for me
5 Star Review   By averageDoItYouselfguy on Home Depot - Aug 8, 2009    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This product worked great. I’m very pleased with how it turned out. I think preparation is the key, read the directions and then watch the video. I just had my shop floor poured about 4 weeks ago and wanted to put something on it that looked great, this did the trick. One thing that I found helpful that they do not tell you about is to evenly spread the flake into 2-5 separate containers or however you want to split up the floor, this way you know how much to put on each section. My concrete floor was a smooth surface, so the coverage of one can about 375-400 sq. ft. I bought a 2 ½ half garage set and a regular set and ended up taking one back because two cans covered my 780 sq ft shop easily. I have had it on the floor for about 2 weeks and the only thing I can see wrong is that the gloss look isn’t perfectly consistent, but I think I could have eliminated the problem with stirring it really well every time I put it into the roller pan. Temp range was 70-90, humidity about 30%, the only reason I went with the Rust-Oleum product over the Behr was because of the two pack Rust-Oleum offered, but from what I could tell the products are relatively the same. I would definitely use this product again and would recommend it to anyone. Preparation is crucial!!!
