Homeowner- maybe, Contractor - not recommended
1 Star Review   By Jonn on Home Depot - Jun 3, 2013

I have bought two of these recently because they are cheap. Along with three other Ryobi saws (different models) which are taking up space in my job trailer and shop. They are not built very well, plastic parts snap easily. Of the two that I have of this model, one the height adjustment handle broke within a couple weeks and the entire knob within a month. The other one the height adjustment is bound up and can be moved (barely) with a set of vice grips. Rip fence is kind of cheasy as well, must be checked and rechecked and can easily be knocked out of whack mid-cut. If you are a homeowner who will be using this saw a few times a year, you'll probably be all right. As for a daily use jobsite saw, they don't hold up. The stand is pretty rickety as well, not ideal for a table saw.

Last tool I buy at Home Depot
2 Star Review   By Dann on Home Depot - May 7, 2013

Okay, it's a cheap, light saw. But you'd think it could rip an 8 foot 2x4 without seizing up. Nope. It stopped, and won't restart. The manual says (as I expected) that I should reset the circuit breaker. Doesn't say where the breaker is. Nor is there anyplace online I can find it. So I guess I now have to tear down this saw to try to get it working again.

fair to average features; riving knife lever broke first time I tried to remove it; HD sells dado blades, but not dado throat plate for this. They do sell an accessory kit that includes dado throat plate, but it costs $99! has definite cheap feel Torque from the motor makes the saw jump every time you turn it on.

I thought this would be fine for homeowner/DIYer
2 Star Review   By Rusty on Home Depot - Mar 19, 2013

I am not a contractor be any means. I have often thought after the start of a project, how much easier this would be if I just had "another tool" instead. Well a table saw has come up in the middle of many of my DIY projects. So Ithought I would go ahead and break down and make the purchase. Figuring that I may use it 3-4 per year, I knew that i didnt need the top of the line model so I purchased this one. Just unpacking the box we found a broken piece. Then after reading the assembly instructions and putting the stand together, I went to mount the saw to the stand and part of the stand that latches the stand and saw together, broke off as i turned it with my hand. No tools needed on this step as it is just a twist lock. I understand keeping wieght and cost down with the use of plastic, but when it comes to holding the tool that could really harm someone if the stand fails, I think it should be a little more dependable. I would only recomend to a friend after cautioning about the weak plastic used to hold the stand and saw together and to inspect the plastic parts of the stand before every use because it is not built durable enough to be moved around the shop very much.

Plastic doesn't hold up
2 Star Review   By George on Home Depot - Mar 3, 2013

Same issue as most. After 1 year and being used a dozen times the plastic lock washer exploded when I locked the angle of the blade in place. Can't take it back and can't get a 90* cut.

Good table saw for the money
3 Star Review   By delong on Home Depot - Jan 30, 2013

This is a perfectly good, functional, table saw for the money. The motor is strong enough to tear through most DIY projects (change the blade out of the box, though) and the table top is large enough for such projects as well with a roughly two foot rip capacity to the right of the blade. The calibration of the blade, fence, and miter aren't precise to the 32nd or anything, but good enough for most projects with ten minutes of your time to measure and adjust. My one real complaint with this saw is its non-standard miter track and the "tabs" in the track. You can't use standard miter accessories with this saw. The track isn't the right size, or the tabs get in the way. Bad Ryobi, bad. It wouldn't have killed them to put a t-track or something on the top of the fence for featherboards, blocks, and other accessories, either.

Not for bigger jobs.
1 Star Review   By SRoper on Home Depot - Jan 27, 2013

This saw does not hold up very long. It's pretty good for building a bird house or cutting butter. I would recommend spending the money for a better named saw. I did a 1500 sqft remodel, and as I'm putting the saw away it starts to fall apart.

DIFFERENT FROM FLOOR MODEL
3 Star Review   By john on Home Depot - Jan 15, 2013

I chose this model because it had a dust chute. When I took it from the carton I realized that the design had changed and there was no dust chute as well as other changes. There are two models which Home depot has under the same SKU. I was finally able to track down the model I wanted at another store and make a swap. If you want the dust chute you need the RTS20 not RTS21.

More than expected
4 Star Review   By Piglet on Home Depot - Jan 7, 2013

I read a lot of reviews both negative and positive. I went this table saw because, well, i wanted one and it was the best deal for what I am planning to use it for. The main deciding factor was a YouTube video review where this saw was sent out for 3 months with a general contractor and then brought back in for a review and it was pretty impressive. The locking mechs are all plastic and I can see where they could break if not maintained or impatient brute force is used. Everything seems pretty solid. The legs sat level immediately. Assembly took about 5 minutes and another 5-10 to properly set the gauge's. To adjust the front angle guage, there is a small 7mm bolt on the inside of the table. the rip fence extension guage is a bit of a pain to set but just takes a small bit of patience. Overall with not having much use, it seems pretty solid and a very decent saw for the price. The only problems i have are the safety guards for the blade, the kick back guard is tight and scratches the table immediately, and the plastic blade guard could have been constructed a little better. They remove and install very quickly but more in the way than anything. Also, the blade. They send it with a 24 tooth blade which is a ripping blade. Would make more sense to equip with 40 tooth for dual use of ripping and cutting. but hey, who am I.

Accuracy is a challenge
3 Star Review   By rgl1951 on Home Depot - Dec 14, 2012

After wasting way too much lumber I found the miter gauge was able to hold it's angle. I bought a much better miter gauge only o find it didn't fit this saw. I asked a friend who is a wood worker to look at the saw. He found the fence did a poor job of lining up both the front and back and he had the same issue with the miter gauge. I've replaced this saw with a Ridgid R4510.

RTS21 vs RTS20
2 Star Review   By NotSoHandyman on Home Depot - Aug 8, 2012

My local Home Depot store carried the RTS21 in place of the RTS20. Features seem to be the same, so I purchased it. I bought this model specifically for its ability to make dado cuts (as described in the product manual). The manual states that dado cuts require the additional dado blade (generic) and the dado throat plate, supplying the product number in the manual for the required plate. The throat plate interface with the table is different for the RTS21. The RTS20 plate will not fit. Ryobi support now says of the part referenced in the RTS21 manual that is required for dado cuts: "The part is still in the planning stage. It may be produced and released at a later date. I do not know when or if the part will be made." Except for this critical flaw, the saw performed to expectations. Home Depot accepted the return of the saw and issued a full refund.

Good Saw_Cheep motor
2 Star Review   By jackofalltrades on Home Depot - Jun 23, 2012

I had this saw for 2 years now and for light duty and infrequent use its just OK. I have several Ryobi products and the story is the same with all of them, not well made,Ryobi cheeps out on too many parts, like the saw motor(makes too much noise, sounds like its about to fall apart, has a bad bearing noise)It would be a better saw if it had a better made motor. Also the fence needs to be adjustable (cant fine tune it at all)Needs a way to lock the blade height.

DOESNT DO WHAT IT SAYS without additional items
1 Star Review   By samuils on Home Depot - Jun 7, 2012

Bought the saw because I need the ability of maximum dado cut. It says on the box "max dado cut is 3/4" Went home, set it up, it was sitting doing nothing while I was preparing the shop. Finally it came time to start working, but NO LUCK. Apparently in order to do dado cuts of 3/4 you need additional flange otherwise 3/4 wont fit at all. I thought ok, Ill see their armada of authorized dealers, surely they will have something as simple as that, never mind that I have to pay additional money for something that the saw already claims to do. Called all around, not a single dealer has the little flange. This is just ridiculous. I am growing really tired of Ryobi. Hope people read this and order the part ahead of time. Ryobi should have at least have a warning on the box so people would order ahead of time. What an annoying frustrating situation

A really nice 10" saw for the home owner with limited space
4 Star Review   By oldfatguy on Home Depot - May 31, 2012

The saw is powerful enough for most homeowners and DIYS types. I've had mine for 3mos. and used it to cut 1/2" plywood and several hundred feet of laminate flooring. The table extensions are very useful. The rip fence is adequate, but the crosscut/miter guage is just barely adequate. The saw as it came out of the box cuts true and square. The units light weight might be a problem if you are cutting large heavy items. All -in - all a good buy for the price.

The smaller one is higher quality, but still recommend it
3 Star Review   By James on Home Depot - Apr 11, 2012

I started off with the smallest model saw (which doesnt have an extending wing) but it was too small so I upgraded to this one. Ironically this saw is significantly lower quality: - the tabletop is plain whereas the smaller saw has lines that you can use as guides to get the fence square - the tabletop surface is a bit rougher cut and rough painted than the smaller model which is smooth - the bevel meter does not line up properly, but is on a bendy piece of metal that you can bend to line up - The table his a few holes drilled inside the grooves for the pushing tool which are really roughly cut ...so what is more important, size or quality??? Also, this model replaces last year's BST16 that sold for the same price, but had expanding wings on both sides (not just the right) and actually expanded 5" further on the right. It also had locking clamps on the rear extender - this newer model does not. It also had a proper dust bag underneath instead of a small dust bag that sticks out the back on a hose. PROS: - Can attach a shop vac for minimal success - when used with a carpenters square to get the fence straight, its reasonable to use - the rear extension/rest is useful, even without locking clamps CONS: - the expanding wing (side and rear) are really tight and take a lot of tugging. I recommend greasing them up and not expecting smoothness. - the quality of the metal is poor, and there are plenty of lighter weak spots in the plastic - the rear wing doesnt lock (no clamps) - the fence is not square, it locks tightly into place but you have to get it square at the back first. I recommend buying a carpenters square. - the miter gauge is inaccurate - the depth of cut is just 1/4" off being able to handle a 4x4, but you can always flip it round and cut from both sides So this really is a step backwards from last year, and lower quality than the smaller model. AND YET....for the price I still think its worth it for home users that cant afford a Dewalt/Rigid/Porter Cable

Great saw, great price
5 Star Review   By RobV on Home Depot - Apr 4, 2012

Am in the middle of a kitchen remodel and needed a table saw. I did a lot of checking and was aprehensive about getting this one. Lots of mixed reviews. I can only speak for myself Its a great saw. Can you cut crown molding with it? No. I used the miter portion to cut base trim board and as long as you take your time, its great. Its durable, great value and plenty of power. It will bog down if you try and force your wood through at a high rate of speed, but I had no problem ripping plywood, 2x4's etc. If you know how to use a saw, this is a great unit. Buying at HD is a bonus. If you're not happy with it, take it back! I give it 2 thumbs up.

The wife assembled it, so it can't be all the bad. No real problems, works just fine, saved a lot of time framing the finish wood for windows. Some problems with the dust bag staying in place. Probably is the top unit of its' kind.

Well made and powerful!
5 Star Review   By Sawyerless on Home Depot - Feb 21, 2012

Powerful motor. A little intimidating after using a much less powerful saw. Safety tips scattered throughout the owner manual make it difficult to get all things right safety wise when making different cuts. For an older user the print is also very small. Until I can get it all sorted out and feel safe using it, it sits unused since Christmas.

Great Saw for the PRice
4 Star Review   By Azrider on Home Depot - Feb 17, 2012

Bought this to install 300sqft of laminate flooring. Went through 15 cases and all cuts worked out perfect. Had to cut ends and both sides to fit, saw worked flawlessly start to finish. Really appreciated the attachments and dust bag. The collapsible stand makes it easy to store and setup. In all, a nice saw for the price.

We were making the diagonally cut back slats for an Adirondack chair. Made a jig to help get angle cut and all went well. Appreciated the legs to get the saw off the ground. Saw seemed to do everything well and was nice a tight so no sloppy cuts. Excellent tool for the price.

Caveat Emptor
2 Star Review   By emmkay on Home Depot - Dec 28, 2011

I saw three versions of this saw at my local HD last night. Two have a black cam-actuated lever, and one has a yellow lever. The yellow lever works to control the bevel, the black ones were broken on the displays. Beware the black lever. I locked the blade bevel on the display units and then pushed the blade off of zero with my finger. It moved easily and quickly over to 45 degrees. I would be wary of buying one of these saws. The less-expensive version with the yellow bevel lock works and that's what I bought. I have some Ryobi tools and they all perform very well. This specific model might be an exception. Buyer beware.

works fine to me
4 Star Review   By LTofSouthBay on Home Depot - Dec 25, 2011

The quality and value is very good for the price. I've ripped and cut precise measurements and it worked fine. If you know how what you're doing and know how to measure and know never to overtighten anything you will not have have what others are complaining about. What washer? I think there was only 1 phillips head screw so I don't know what the problem is with that. The other guy said there's no switch key. You probably threw it away with the box. You can easily miss that piece along with other pieces as well so go easy when unpacking inspect every styrofoam; parts are taped into it. Make sure the box you buy was not opened or have holes that small parts can fall out of. If you have an extra $$ to spend go for the expensive ones to give yourself a peace of mind so you won't second guess yourself. If you're a weekend builder like me and have a budget this is okay. Currently using mine for framing and cabinetry restoring a fixer-upper house. If you make a living out of your tools go for commercial type models. I'm a beginner but I know what I want to accomplish with this tablesaw and I measure before I make a cuts so I have no problem with this machine. However, I do replace the blade with a Diablo 80Teeth to make super clean cuts when cutting crown molding, baseboards, etc. Same blade for my Ryobi Miter with Slider. Use right blade for every job, it helps alot. If you're a novice like me practice with a few cuts, even pros make practice cuts from time to time.

Seems flimsy
3 Star Review   By jerryc on Home Depot - Aug 21, 2011

This was not my first choice but the local store did not carry the big Rigid model so I settled for this as I needed to finish a project ASAP. Assembly was a little challenging as the instructions are a bit vague such as "Use the phillips head screw" but does not specify which one, as well as discussing the safety key for the power switch which was no where to be found. I am hoping that it holds up to my light duty use..if not, I will order the Rigid and have it shipped in.

I did adjust the bevel angle and did not have any trouble with a broken washer; in fact I don't even know where the allegedly troublesome broken washer is located -- maybe I have an updated version. The HD employee whom I consulted before buying this told me he was not aware of the presence of any plastic washers and had had none returned as defective.

An oustanding piece of equipment
5 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - Jul 29, 2011

I owned a table top saw about 10 years ago and I used it for outside trim and siding jobs when I was building houses... WOW the improvements that have been made since are fantastic I enjoyed using the saw then, but now It is even better. I just use my saw for home improvements now but I wished I had this saw back then what a pleasure my saw is to use now, I just can't wait to use it now I'm like a kid with a new toy. It is TRULY a pleasure to use. Yes I know It is not a full size Table saw but It will do everything I need.. As far as I am concerned this is an outstanding table saw. I say bravo Ryobi this saw wins my approval. If you want a great little table saw then this is the one I would certainly suggest you get this one is it!! Again, BROVO RYOBI You did good, Price and convience are right on the mark. BUY it I don't think you will be disappointed! There are two small things I see as a draw back first it is a little on the heavy side and I don't think you can use it for cutting a dado, the saw runs at 6500n RPM's and a dado runs MAX 4500 RPM's but I can get around that. (Dado... use a router or full size table saw, and weight well...Life goes on Dave C

Cheap, do not buy.
1 Star Review   By jeff on Home Depot - Jul 13, 2011

Much like the experience of several other people, the first time I tried to lock the bevel the plastic washer snapped in half. Never even plugged the thing in and it's already useless.

Broke before I plugged it in...
1 Star Review   By AChigurh on Home Depot - May 17, 2011

As per prior reviews, when I adjsted the bevel angle after taking it out of the box, the plastic washer snapped in half and shot across the garage. The handle cannot be tightened, thus making the saw useless. Unbelievable that this washer is not metal, probably would have cost 2 cents more per saw. I would not recommend this even for light/occasional use. I went to the local store to adjust the floor model and SNAP!! Same thing happened. The other similar RYOBI saw next to it was already missing the same washer. It would be a mistake to buy this saw unless this flaw is fixed.

not okay for a steady use...
2 Star Review   By procontractor1 on Home Depot - Apr 14, 2011

I am a professional contractor and this saw is not okay for a cash savvy pro as the little add says. I had this saw for a year. You cannot run a full sheet of plywood through it without it tipping over (or trying to), the angle adjustment will not stay tight (it loosens with use and then your blade will walk to about 4 degrees) and the miter slide only works on very small cuts as the slide binds in the guide. I might be overly critical because I use my tools every day, but I know good products from the fair or poor. Pros: 24" cut from right side of the blade and 18" cut from the left side, Compact design works well for mobility. Cons: motor burned up after less than one year of semi-steady use (longevity is not included with this product), unstable stand for running long or thick or heavy wood (ie plywood, plannin 2x4 or 4x4) It is easier to cut a full sheet of 3/4" ply with my skill saw than it was to run it don my table saw. The motor burned up while running a window sill. I am not impressed. I will be going with Porter Cable for my next table saw.

Good for the price
4 Star Review   By ProjectWarrior on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2011

I have done a few projects with this and I'm impressed so far. It's motor is more powerful than the smaller bench top table saws. I also purchased a dado set and have used it mutliple times. It's really easy to swap out the blades. I don't love the miter guage side, it doesn't allow as many options with custom miter fences and things. I'm also not impressed with the piece that locks in the blade tilt. I have to check my blade angle every cut becuase it doesn't stay locked. Overall, for $200 bucks I'm happy. I would like to get the blade tilt tightened up, but otherwise it works great.

Plastic parts fail
1 Star Review   By MetalMechanic on Home Depot - Mar 21, 2011

The blade tilt mechanism has a plastic washer which failed. This part is critical for safe operation of the tool and without it, it is unusable as designed. The replacement part is no better. Would I use this tool as designed? NO Would I loan it to anyone? NO Would I recommend anyone buy this regardless of price? NO Other parts such as the miter gauge are very poor in design with no upgrade options but until the blade tilt mech is addressed, those problems do not matter. If a metal part was made avaliable, I might trust it but NOT PLASTIC.

Plastic parts?
1 Star Review   By Stevecabinetman on Home Depot - Feb 22, 2011

Great price, and it worked great at first but I only got 4 months use out of it before the plastic parts to ajust the angle broke. Now the knob that raises the blade is stripped out. Its worthless now. If you buy it be sure to buy the warranty.

Terrible. Don't buy this product.
1 Star Review   By AdmiralCrunch on Home Depot - Feb 11, 2011

The bevel adjustment on mine would not lock. I'd set it for 0 and lock it. I could then push the bevel adjustment to 45 deg with one finger. The blade would lean over with every cut. The miter gauge slot is a non-standard size, and the gauge has a ton of slop. Almost impossible to make an accurate cut. After ruining my first three work pieces, I took the saw back to Home Depot three hours after I bought it. The return was hassle-free at least. Total garbage. My replacement saw cost over twice as much, but it's ten times better.

Pay attention to the reviews!
1 Star Review   By BobbyP on Home Depot - Jan 26, 2011

I read all the reviews, then promptly ignored them. I bought this saw and before I ever plugged it in, the bevel lock lever broke. Just like multiple reviewers before me. The bevel lock mechanisim is a "pinch lock" - pushing the arm down causes it to ride up on the suspect piece, applying a lot of pressure to lock the bevel angle in place. Way too much pressure for the plastic cam washer that bears all that force. Home Depot will be will served by removing these from stock - they are probably going to see a lot of returns for this failure. I will say that the return experience was easy as pie, they are good folks to work with.

Cheap Plastic on Bevel Lock Mechanism broke
1 Star Review   By EEtheEagle on Home Depot - Jan 25, 2011

Two months of light use and the second time I use the bevel lock, it breaks, rendering it useless. A half day will now be wasted exchanging the product and setting up the new one. I own many Ryobi products and have been happy with them until now. Bringing a product to market with such an obvious design flaw is how good reputations are ruined.

BAD DESIGN
1 Star Review   By Windowtrimmer on Home Depot - Jan 24, 2011

Like previous reviewer this saw broke before i could plug it in. There is a serious design flaw, when i went to unlock the bevel to remove the styrofoam the washer broke. This should be made of metal as it is a critical component. . As soon as I can get the saw back to HD it will be returned. I hope the take the return because this saw is a huge disappointment which could have been avoided by spending another 5 cents on a metal part instead of plastic

Works Great!
4 Star Review   By KenMI on Home Depot - Jan 18, 2011

I bought this saw to help me in finishing an addition to our cottage. I got the saw on a Friday morning and too it up that day. Saturday I was ripping and cutting away with no problems at all. Set-up was a breeze - I don't know what the other folks were talking about regarding setting it up. Everything seems to be pretty robust, especially for the homeowner/hobbyist, as I am. This saw is great,

Get the newest version...there's two versions!
2 Star Review   By Brentalones on Home Depot - Jan 15, 2011

My sisters bought this for me as a Christmas gift. The compression washer that is on the bevel leaver broke in half before I even got to plug in the saw! I returned it today to home depot (easy returns as usual). I walked through the tool isle again and found the same model, but slightly updated. They changed the way you adjust the bevel from the stupid plastic lever to a dial that you can turn to tighten the bevel adjustment. The dial looked more durable and is similar to the way other brands work (dewalt, craftsman, etc). HD was out of stock of the saw, but I'll go back and get the newest version soon.

major flaw
1 Star Review   By tarmin on Home Depot - Jan 11, 2011

it broke during the steps to unpack it. there is a piece of foam cusioning the motor. the instruction say to move the bevel lever in order to remove this foam. when i moved the bevel locking lever to the right as the instructions say the plastic ring behind it broke and now bevel cannot be locked. i cannot believe they made such an inportant part out of plastic.

Ryobi BTS16 Quickstand table saw
4 Star Review   By Ferris on Home Depot - Dec 25, 2010

Being a carpenter contractor and owning table saws for over 40 years, I can say that this saw, for the money, is an OK saw. I find that the plastic locking knobs are a concern. If you overtighten them, they will break. I use this saw almost every day and it is holding up just fine.
