Easy Do-It-Yourself backyard lighting
5 Star Review   By EMD12G on Home Depot - May 22, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I bought this transformer to install backyard lighting. It was easy to install and without much work and few screws into the house. (I love the effect of the up-lights into the trees at night). I really enjoy the light sensor on the transformer where the lights come on at dust and go off three hours later. It all makes my backyard feel like a resort...every night.

Works well
5 Star Review   By Rich on Home Depot - May 8, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Easy to install, works well, is very quiet (no huming noise), easy to program unit. It is a little heavy so mount it on a solid surface.

This transformer is very well made with great features
5 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Apr 7, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Excellent feature for turning on automatically at dusk and off at dawn. Very well built and allows for different terminals of different voltage to allow for lighting adjustment for longer runs of lights. This unit is very heavy and must be mounted with appropriate hardware.

great replacement product, nice finish in black matte
5 Star Review   By lkn4fla on Home Depot - Mar 6, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I was down to my last working button on my original transformer box. It was a nightmare, some times it worked and sometimes it didn't. I bought the Hampton bay to replace it and I wish I would have done it 2 years ago. the mounting screws lined up perfectly, connected the wires and it works like a dream. The Black color is much nicer on my brick home than Stainless. I can only hope it lasts longer than my original one.

Great Value
5 Star Review   By NJDad on Home Depot - Jan 29, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This product is sold under several brand names: Moonrays, Paradise, Hampton Bay. HD price was the lowest by 20-30 bucks. Product is very solid, two 300 watt channels with variable connect ports to raise the voltage for long runs. The photo electric sensor allows settings to keep your lights on exactly how long you'd like. Digital readout, weatherproof, overall a fine product. Make sure you use heavy screws/lag bolts to attach the unit to the wall (and hit a stud) as this unit is HEAVY. I mounted the unit on an eastern exposure wall, shaded a little by bushes. The photo eye still works fine, no problem. Make sure you lights don't shine towards the unit as this might confuse the sensor.

Performs as advertised
5 Star Review   By Jojo on Home Depot - Dec 4, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This Hampton Bay transformer does everything it advertises and does so QUIETLY. These types of transformers tend to be fairly noisy. I cannot hear anything with this one. I run several strands of lights on Automatic ON, 5 hours OFF. It works great. My only complaint is that it is a big black box, so I built a box (house color) to enclose it.

Mulit-tap voltage terminals an absolute must!
5 Star Review   By MetroplexAgent on Home Depot - Jul 3, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The biggest negative about low voltage landscape lighting is the inevitable “voltage drop” when using long runs of wire. While the amount of the drop can be reduced by using a thicker gauge wire there’s still going to be a drop in voltage which results in dimmer lights and higher amperage which will burn out the lamps (bulbs) faster. This transformer allows you to compensate for that by pushing more volts thru the wire so that by the time it gets to the fixtures it’s a true 12 volts. A voltmeter is a must so you can test the voltage at the fixture. At 12 volts from the terminal I was reading 10.6 volts at the fixtures (I’m using 12 gauge wire by the way). So I moved the wire to the 14 volt terminal and now I have 11.9-12.1 volts at each fixture. Running the wire in a loop whereby you run the wire from the transformer out and back to the transformer so you will actually have two sets of wires to connect to the transformer is also a great trick to even out the voltage across all lights. This avoids having the light closest to the transformer bright and the light at the end of the wire dim. You must take care to connect the same side of each wire to the same terminal or else you risk blowing the transformer so use a multi-meter to test for continuity. If you don’t understand any of this you probably shouldn’t attempt. Lastly, I didn’t realize that the photocell was attached to the transformer. I assumed that it came with a tether so you could place the transformer in a garage and run the photocell outside. Not a big deal as I ended up mounting outside anyway. Good luck!

5 Star Review   By AZJoe on Home Depot - Jun 12, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is a updated design for a discontinued item. A big improvement but I wish they had not changed the way it mounts to the wall. When I replaced the old failed unit I had to drill all new mounting holes in the concrete block wall.

Much Better than the previous Hampton Bay transformer
4 Star Review   By olddiyguy on Home Depot - May 22, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Heavy duty steel case, easy wiring block for connections. It can only be improved by having a paper template to mark drill holes for mounting, and if the cabinet was painted green to blend in better with the landscape. Hopefully this one will last more than four years.

5 Star Review   By LanesHomeImprovements on Home Depot - May 22, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I've purchased and install several of these on Customers landscape lighting systems. For the value I highly recommend them. FYI I installed the first one about six years ago and it still looks and performs perfect.

Solid construction
5 Star Review   By robert6262 on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Easy setup to replace a system that did not have internal fusing that got fried because of squirrels chewing power wires. The steel construction and accessible control panel make for a hopefully long term investment.

Best option I could find
5 Star Review   By Dhood on Home Depot - Mar 27, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I search for several months to find a 600 watt transformer. This one was the best pricing at the time. Easy to install. Works as described. It IS heavy. Timer is easy to program. Held the program after loss of power during a storm

Looks nice, but had to return it
3 Star Review   By Andy on Home Depot - Jan 17, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It uses a digital switch to change modes (from auto/timer/manual/etc). When it looses power to the unit, it doesn't remember what mode it is in so it essentially gets reset to scratch. This wasn't acceptable for my use case so I returned the unit. Return was smooth - it is nice to be able to return something so heavy directly to the store instead of shipping it back.

Great transformer!
5 Star Review   By MDRMAN on Home Depot - Nov 3, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I had a 300 watt Hampton Bay that was very reliable but mde a slight high pitched sound. (Still use it). I used the 14V setting and had plenty of power. I upgraded to this version and it is quiet, very reliable, and can handle a huge load. I also like that you can move from 12v to 13 v to 14v to 15v and test to see which setting offers your system the best power level to get the light level where you want it -- it's like adjusting a dimmer switch to the level you want-- a huge factor for me! Turns out the 12 v level gives nice lighting but if I want it brighter I can reconnect the wires to stronger voltage.
